Tracklist: (A1) Episode (B1) 7 Hours (Digital only track: Rust)
Info:
Irishman Brendan Gregory aka Chymera has become an integral part of the international club scene. This techno and house productions are based on his skilful way to incorporate different styles and genres such as minimal techno and even the trance, which leads to a very own and surpreme handwriting. Like his mentor and friend Funk D'Void or like his fellow Cocoon Recordings colleague Tim Green, Chymera appears to one of the few artists who can be assigned to a very own and recognizable sound. Especially today, in times where some kids manages it to release records produced with just one laptop and rough basic knowledge a very own style is no longer a given. Chymera is one of these hard to find artists that have worked on their own style and developed an acoustic trademark... and we love his style! "Episode" is a prime example of the above-described influences based on house, techno and trance. The great arpeggio bass-/synthline and the overall arrangement beams us back to the high days of Detroit techno. This is soulful and epic and it triggers just the right senses, it takes us on a journey. With "7 Hours" appears like a stripped down dub version of "Episode". Based on a similar arpeggio bassline but less epic "7 hours" incorporates the two musical corners of "Rust" and "Episode" in a very cool way. Chymera is a fine master of his craft and this release is another proof of his musical knowledge and taste! The bonus track "Rust" Chymera looks into the house corner and presents a nice counterpart to "Episode". The great Chicago-FM bassline is the leading element in "Rust". The analog space synths and the relaxed but cool oldskool drum programming are perfecting Chymeras deep house excursion.

chymera - canavan calling
Tracklist: A1. Divided Self B1. Canavan Calling
Info:
Last spotted on Ovum just over a year ago with 'Moot Point', Irishman-in-Berlin Chymera returns with two more stately sonic workouts...
We ignite with "The Divided Self" is one of Chymera's personal favourite compositions from last year. Setting out with the simple mission to make a deep emotive track, it was one of those super-rare golden studio moments when everything came together in a matter of hours. Pensive and poignant, restrained and ruled by minor chords, the sense of melancholy makes even more sense when you understand the title: 'The Divided Self' is named after a groundbreaking book that discussed and explored mental illness in a way that, at the time, had never been done before.
Next up is "Canavan Calling", a track that's characterised by an incredible bassline that's so broad, rich and textured it's almost overwhelming. No surprises, then, that is created on an original Minimoog, an instrument Chymera fell in love with while he attended a Studio Stekker week alongside peers such as Mathew Jonson, Sebastian Mullaert and The Mole. Mutating, morphing and moving throughout, starlit synths soon enter the mix, soaring and thrusting further upwards to create a natural, rolling organic build up and pay off. Named after an obscure short horror story by Joseph Payne Brennan, the only thing horrific about this track is the price of an original Minimoog.
Both cuts taking their titles from literary inspirations, both cuts revealing wholly different sides to Chymera, both cuts warming us up to the very bottom of our souls this winter... Both cuts demand your attention

Chymera returns to Ovum with Tidal/Moot Point
It has been 7 years since Chymera's seminal Ovum release "Umbrella" and it only seems fitting that we kick of our 20th Anniversary celebration with a new release from the Irish producer. Since his debut on Ovum, Chymera aka Brendan Gregoriy has been busy releasing on lables such as NRK, Komplex De Deep, Cocoon, Kompakt, and more. Chymera kicks this two tracker off with "Tidal". A full on smash that sees Brendan take us on a throbbing journey, ebbing, flowing and bringing the floor to the boil. On the flip Brendan presents a sound that's more familiar to the fans of his previous Ovum outing. "Moot Point" at 11 mins 44 sec, is a thing of beauty. An epic Chymera trip that is set to soundtrack the rising sun, over many a dawn party. The emotion in his music reminds us of why we fell in love with Chymera seven years ago and why we feel it was only right that he kick off our 20th Anniversary celebrations.

We welcome back Chymera for another stellar release on Dirt Crew. Two years Ago he gave us one of our biggest tracks ever on Dirt Crew with the amazing „Curl“ a track that became an instand classic across all genres. Now we are very proud to have him do it once more, the title track „Disc“ is an absolute Club Monster, we have been playing this one out for months now and people go crazy when its bassline drops. Reactions are overwelming and we are happy to finally put this one out. Chymera gave us two more tracks that show his great talent composing very melodic Techno and House tracks, „Valise“ is a beauty of a track, very deep and spacious. The B side track „Isa“ is just plain ecstacy on the dancefloor, a perfect late night or early morning tune. And as a bonus we asked one of our favourite producers out there to lay his hands on „Isa“ the marvellous Mark E who has been doing great things in the last years on his Merc label, he made an slow balearic Proto House kind of remix that hits the spot perfectly.

In June 2010 I moved to Berlin. I'd been in Barcelona for 3 years previous to that. Overall, as good as my social life and the experiences that I had there were, musically I was treading water. Constantly trying to not repeat myself, but invariably just backing myself into a corner and rarely coming up with anything good. It was a tough time for me musically. Indeed, I had thoughts of just packing it in which luckily some good friends talked me out of. Everything changed once I moved to Berlin. The different environment and way of life was exactly what I needed to get my creative juices flowing again. That same month I sent three tracks to Connaisseur, which would become the Ghosts EP. At that point the label asked me if I wanted to do an album for them. It wasn't something I had properly considered in quite some time, but I jumped at the prospect. I had self released my debut album back in 2005 which was a collection of tracks I made from 2002 until that point. I was so proud of that album, still am. Sonically it was flawed. Partially due to the limitations of the software I was producing on but mostly due to my own engineering inexperience. Something which I am gradually getting better at but I'm still hopelessly bad at at times. Anyway, that album sold a few copies around Ireland, but nowhere else. Once I started releasing internationally I was just stoked to be releasing EPs. I was all about them. I didn't listen to any electronic albums period. Only EPs and single tracks. I thought that the album was pointless in the electronic world. Luckily I came around from that point of view, and it coincided with Connaisseur asking me to do the album. So then I tried to decide what angle to take with the album. Should it be a bunch of tracks all written in a short period of time with a similar theme, or a collection of different tracks brought together under the umbrella of an album? Should I cater for the floor or for the home listening experience? So I racked my brains for a bit and thought, "what would I like to listen to from start to finish in an album?". I told the label that I thought the album should be organic, some tracks might work in deeper sets but the most important thing is that they could be listened to in a variety of environments and not sound out of place. And the label agreed with me. .
With that I started working in earnest on the album. I tended to work in quick bursts over two weeks, churning out many tracks in a similiar vein, then banging my head off the keyboard for months at a time until the next wave came, with invariably a slightly different evolution of my sound. However I had a particularly prolonged dry spell which would last from the end of that summer until January of the following year. Again I had written myself into a corner. Put too much pressure on myself to come up with the perfect album tracks, and just end up firing blanks. But luckily after a trip home to Ireland for Christmas and a harsh flu, I found myself in January with a new burst of Inspiration. One which lasted, on and off for the rest of the year. Already I had exceeded the initially proposed deadline of March 2011, so I simply pushed on. We agreed that what I had done so far was worthy of release but the album was not finished yet, so it was worth waiting. Along the way I had settled gradually into my life in Berlin. I was gigging more regularly than ever which gave me a nice sense of security. And I also met my fantastic girlfriend who became a sounding board for my new creations, letting me know her honest thoughts on the tracks ("It sucks", "Is that what you call music?", "So when does the beat come in?") Eventually by October 2011 I had it completed. Then began the tortuous process of mixing it down finally. During this period I also found out which tracks I really loved and which ones were grating on my nerves. So I also whittled it down, wrote new replacements and nipped and tucked everything until it was all fitting just right. The tracklist was even in flux as late as the week of mastering, a race to the finish line as such. Equal parts synthesis and sampling, but 100% organic, touching on various different genres. In a way it's return to my initial methods of music creation, but also an evolution from that. A listening experience from start to finish and constructed as such. It also marks the first time I've worked with vocalists, featuring contributions from Emilie Harsongkram, a friend of mine who also used to live in Barcelona and two English singers, Emma Greenfield and Moss Beynon Juckes, who fortuitously were singing acapella in a bar in Berlin about two weeks before the album was due to be mastered. It's been a long and complicated process, full of ups and downs. I can't say it was always easy. There were lots of heated arguments with the label about what constituted a good track or not, what artwork to use and what direction the album should go. I put my foot down many times, and equally came around to see their point of view after much stubborn procrastination. But I think that was instrumental in shaping the album for the better. Indeed the sessions towards the very end were some of my favourite and I'm already itching to start work on the follow up. So here you have it. Exactly one year and a half of my life on record. Encapsulated forever.

Master-H's Komplex De Deep may only be 10 releases old but, due to its consistent quality, and unrelenting mission of releasing unique pieces of music, unbound by genre, it has quite rightly built a strong following who eagerly await each and every release, to see just what the French label chief will bring us next. After wowing us with his very own 'Stabs Call' last month, H has turned to his favourite Irishman to usher in the end of the year. A regular on the label, Chymera has already lent his remix skills on KD004, and released the excellent 'The Rumours Of My Demise', back in December of last year. Today he brings us two of his very finest in stunningly beautiful, piano laden 'For The Lonely', and the superbly emotive, crowd-pleaser that is 'Ceril'. On the remix of 'For The Lonely', the Irish are in full force, as Fish Go Deep back their countryman with an excellent and thorough reworking. The EP is rounded out in style with a Master-H 'Detroit Vision' take on 'Ceril'.

As we've revelled in the abstract jazzy tones of label chief Master-H on KDD ..... Its time to take things from the smokey cellar floor to sweaty warehouse spaces, as we welcome Aubrey back to Komplex De Deep. Allen Saei aka Aubrey has over 23 years hands on experience of the scene. His DJ career took him from his first residency in Portsmouth's 'Central Park', to playing London's biggest raves and parties in the 1990's, sharing the decks with the likes of Carl Cox, Groove Rider and Mr C. Launching his own Solid Groove Records in 1990, Aubrey's career went from strength to strength. Releases and remixes followed for labels including Sublime, The End, Ferox, Mosaic, Reel, Intec and Leftfield's label, Offshoot. His material was licensed by Derrick May, Terry Francis, Pete Tong and Carl Cox, and his track 'Early Riser' co-written with Max Brennan, featured on the very first Fabric 01 compilation, mixed by Craig Richards. 2010 saw him release 'Dark' on Belgian label Mowar, and he followed that with his Komplex De Deep debut, the 'High Pass Highway' EP . Today we are proud to be bringing you his first release of 2011, the "Harlequin Opal" Ep. A four track selection that sees Aubrey move seamlessly from the atmospheric synth-laden joy of the title track to sparse, metallic and acidy sounds of Octavius. On the flip "Power Of The Drums" is an expansive, cinematic and industrial tinged cut, whilst "Radiatus 40" spins us headily in into the ether with is waves of spacey synths. Perfect! Adam Carter

Born in Japan, and raised in Brazil, Ifume has always been exposed to a variety of musical influence. Whilst his musical aptitude was apparent at early age, learning piano and guitar, Ifume never really exhibited a desire to pursue a career in music. Upon graduating from high-school, Ifume, through his friends, discovered the local club scene, and it was here that his passion was ignited. Today, Ifume is set to join the new wave of young, exciting house producers. Whilst his sound is far from obvious, it does mirror his love for the New York, Detroit and Chicago scenes. He may well have been too young to experience at first hand, the early sounds coming out of those cities. But his love of the gritty, unpolished and brutally honest sounds of the 80's and early 90's, can be heard in his own intricate productions. Showcasing quite frighteningly mature production skills, Ifume presents four stunning deep house cuts. Exclusively analog, each one exudes that delectable warmth of sound throughout. This really is a debut release to savour ladies and gents. Listen, download and support Ifume and Komplex de Deep...

Over the past twelve months, New York based M A N I K has been residing at the top of many peoples 'one to watch' lists off the back of his 'Park To The Slop' EP on Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings (which also led to releases on Four:Twenty and Fresh Meat.). The 24 year old is rapidly building a reputation with his work and it gives us immense pleasure to welcome him to Komplex De Deep. Both the title track and flip 'Space & Truth' take us on elegant and sensual, oldskool journeys. Sweeping strings, rasping keys and most importantly lashings of groove, make this a release to revel in. From a new and rising talent, we turn to a very much established and legendary producer for our remixes. Alain Ho has unlike many, been there from the very beginnings. A DJ since the age of 13, he was instrumental in the creation and success of the French House scene. From his early days in Hip-Hop, to the launch of the famous Yellow Productions label and through his very own productions under his DJ Yellow guise, Alain has always been at the forefront of electronic music.
