'Pulse Code EP' by Amberflame - Andrei Zakharov's (aka An-2) side project aimed at finding the right balance between organic yet experimental sound - is a selection of top-notch electronica with the flair of old-school disco and everything inbetween. The crafty and meticulous use of a variety of custom analogue hardware give way to keeping an open mind with production and sound design, which varies greatly, but at the same time, shares a coherent quality throughout the EP.

The opening track "Hope" sets the mood with its melancholic airy strings and pulsating arpeggios developing effortlessly until the groovy guitar bass kicks in lighting things up and giving the mix a completely new perspective.

Taking a more experimental edge 'Pulse Code' is a PCM-inspired leftfield electronica piece which goes a new direction with its solid synthwork and fluent drum programming.

"Crosstalk" is a collaborative effort between Theomatic's artists - a sort of a peer reinterpretation of each other's works. First on the A-side is Acos Coolkas' "Skyline", from their first-ever single on Theomatic, released in 2005, receiving a sonic facelift from An-2. This is followed by An-2's remix of D-Pulse's first track from their latest full-length album, "Gratitude", which first appeared as a mystery track on An-2's 2018 SoundCloud mix, now seeing the light of the day by popular demand, and is not to be missed. An-2 and Samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions they'd recorded together years back. Maxim Samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from Minsk, Belarus that we know for years. His first appearance on Theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune "Alpha Storm", which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the Prins Thomas - Live At Robert Johnson compilation. As well as guitars, Maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to Istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a Saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. After scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. An-2 commented on Samos' playing on the Saz during one of his first visits to Minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together - something that took 10 years, but the wait's been worth it. What we've got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. The story's continued on the B-side, where we're treated to a tale of trips in a GTI, before finishing with a Nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the Polar Circle.

7he Myriads debut on Theomatic with the stellar 'Betelgeuse EP'. It is a bow to the era of all-round enthusiasm for space exploration and travelling to far off galaxies that swept across Russian (then Soviet) youth in the late 70's-early 80's. Highly influenced by the sound of the likes of Didier Marouani's Space and Soviet space-rock legend Zodiac (which sold 20 million copies of their albums in the USSR and lately found way to Environ's "Unclassics" compilation), all four tracks on the EP are well charged with nostalgic analogue synth lines, powerful guitar riffs and dynamic live drums. As hot as ever the new EP from our Siberian disco friends is finally landing into Theomatic's catalogue. The title track "Solar wind" is a Rhodes driven hands-in-the-air early night anthem: simple yet powerful, just the way we like it! The flipside features an offbeat cosmic number "Planetarium" which sounds like a perfect soundtrack for some colourful sci-fi cartoon about the early years of space exploration, with all those rockets, flying saucers, stars and comets with long tails. The bonus track (available as a digital download only) is named after the Soviet Moon exploration robot vehicle Lunokhod 2 ('moon walker' in Russian) which was sent to the Moon in 1973. Being rather minimalistic at the begining it slowly evolves and reaches its apogee closer to the end with calm and beautiful melody which leaves the listener in a peaceful mood. More

When we heard Pompeya for the first time and were told they were from Moscow, we were like: - What!? Are you kidding? This is probably the first Russian band singing in English with such a classy Brit touch and male vocal being very strong and sophisticated at the same time. They jestingly describe their style as "melodramatic popular song" and "Cheenese" is indeed a very dramatic piece with simple yet powerful composition and lyrics that really make BIG sense. The original is very well supported by a bunch of remixes each of which is unique on its own. An-2 & Samos come with a warm, relaxed and funky instrumental version which is followed by a blockbuster mix from Moscow disquo maestro Leonid Lipelis (an entirely perfect dance version of the original that could ever exist) and finally, for those few sirs and mesdames who are not yet aesthetically satisfied and who still find themselves seated while others jump and shout, here come D-Pulse with their 'Paranoid' mix that gathers the thunderclouds to the full darkness and - at the end - lets the revival sunbeams break through. Izhevsk - a small city located in the Western Urals area of Russia. It's basically known for its military industry that produces nearly every piece of NATO's nightmare weapons on the planet. It was a closed city during Soviet times and it's still hard to reach as it stands away from the big communication routes and hubs. It's surrounded by small towns producing stuff like long-range ballistic missiles and chemical weapon storages. If there's going to be a nuclear war, no doubts - the first intercontinnental missile will fly to Izhevsk. A very optimistic image, isn't it? Taking into acount all that, it's really hard to understand the fact that Izhevsk is also known as 'the electronic music capital' of Russia. Even before the computer music boom it was known for the strongest alternative music scene in the country. There definitely is some obscure power that feeds the inspiration of people who create while living in such surroundings. This compilation will give you the perfect sence of it.

Following an erotic adventure in the jungle on his own Moonlighting imprint, Øyvind Morken returns to Full Pupp, with Invisible Objects. Øyvind Morken ventures into the functional aspects of dance music for his latest EP, calling on his invaluable experiences from the DJ booth and moulding them into four dance floor tracks that highlight the more mysterious corners of Oslo’s dance floors.
Built on the foundation of syncopated high hats and elastic Juno bass sequences that have become the Oslo DJ’s trademark sound palette, Invisible Objects finds Morken in a coy mood. Catchy melodic phrases repeat over driving rhythm sections, constructed from Morken’s vast knowledge and experience of the dance floor. Øyvind ingrains a mysterious air in the title track as the main melodic phrase drifts off its central pitch in a woolly distraction from the precise rhythm section. Unholy Trance’s Theremin-like central motif carries this sentiment through on the A-side, creating a hazy B-movie aesthetic against the backdrop of the primal pulse that has transcended the jungle for the cold solitude of space.
Morken is nothing but a curator of mood, taking the experience of the DJ booth once again to the recorded format. As Invisible Objects moves over to the B-side, the producer tones things down with the lusciously serene New age of Faith, a cover of LB Bad´s classic Nu Groove record from 1989, before making the final ominous statement with Dance of the Drunk, a track forged in the bowels of an electro beat while metallic bass-stabs make a sizeable impression in the speaker cabinet, before moving onto its next victim.

which feels like surely way long - we restart with one half of the formerly well known milanese pair - boogie drama - and it´s very own lele sacchi.
deejaying since 1995 sacchi has been and is still one of italy´s and especially milan´s musical icons - at least for electronic and alternative worlds, presents himself in his signature style.
high on the heals of the success with rebirth´s smash Lele Sacchi Vs Blonde Redhead - You're Only "Kosmiquest" is dark and cryptic, with a mean but very neat and elegant bassline plus an unmatched groove and feel for the floor. this time well balanced with a tad into psycheledic strinig heaven, wich combined with electronic effects is his ultimate "kosmische" quest. the whole thing is contered by an airy and superbright no less danceable " lauer version" and a fantatsic relaxed italo take on kraut which can propably be non done much better than byprins thomas walking on that "lunga strada" !

Figure‘s newest addition to its catalog is Nocow‘s Ualldie EP, a vivid adventure following his trilogy Vozduh/Voda/Zemlya on the main label.

Nocow’s synths stand out once again, churning out melancholic grooves over five pieces, which showcase his abilty to mesh the psychedelic and the heavy, resulting in tracks both bittersweet and punishing.

It‘s a distinct Russianness, a yearning frozen within, which Nocow‘s cloud techno transports effectively using stereo panning, finely layered percussion and wide strings to paint his imaginative landscape.
