What can be said about this monstrous Disco Funk extravaganza from 1982? Well, plenty actually... the only entry in the mighty Prelude back catalogue from Michael Wilson, 'Groove It To Your Body' is what this music is all about, a proper dance record, drenched in the funk, a groove that just doesn't stop. The A-side is incredible, but it's really the b-side dub mix that steals the show. Francois Kevorkian, who was Prelude's A&R man at the time, mans the desk on both mixes, but for a truly stellar work-out the dub flips all of the essential ingredients into a stew of rumbling synth and tape feedback and deep space delay and echo. This mix could be seen as the template of what was to come, and is an all-out dancefloor wrecker. Try it! It doesn't get any better than this. The very first legitimate reissue of this stellar 1977 Disco set on the legendary NYC Prelude label. 'Disconnection' is a rare beast, a studio group effort headed up by Robert Lee Holmes Jr., a man who had worked on numerous Soul, Funk & even Jazz titles in his native Nashville and beyond. A true underrated stalwart of Southern R&B, Holmes assembled a still mystery cast of musicians to craft this strange one-off LP. Who were the players? Where were they from? The whole release comes off as an almost 'Library' style LP with tracks short, and to the point. There is not a second or drop of Funk that is wasted throughout, proving that a little can go a long way! The music contained within is masterfully produced and arranged, it's obvious that whoever was drafted in by Holmes to realise his vision was the creme of the crop in terms of musicianship. This be the sound of the dancefloor, or the food for the starving sampler right here. Brilliant. The mystery around this fantastic LP is retained, even now in 2019 where this record is much sought after by collectors and diggers across the world. It's understandable why, this one has it all on paper, but most importantly it has the Funk in spades! Bicep continue to bolster their Feel My Bicep imprint and follow up their recent remix of Blaze’s ‘Lovelee Dae’ with another reimagined classic. With this - the seventh addition to the catalogue, the Irish duo pay homage to another equally seminal recording as they rework ‘In Yer Face’ by 808 State. Originally released via ZTT on the group’s third studio album ‘Ex:el’ in 1991 - ‘In Yer Face’ reached number 9 in the UK singles chart. Engineered by Graham Massey, the original mix is model 808 State - bold, Northern House Music that captures perfectly the zeitgeist of 90’s Rave culture. Now - 25 years have past and on request from 808 State themselves, Bicep reimagine ‘In Yer Face’ breathing fresh air through the original, re-contextualising it and adding in their own signature sense of warming euphoria. Included in the package are two dramatically different remixes the first of which aired during Bicep’s AVA Festival Boiler Room back in 2015. Fast forward to September 2016 and the package is due for release both on 12" and digital on the 30th.

A bootleg experiment that got out of hand, Oden & Fatzo’s Radio 1 A-listed single is the accidental hit that everyone is talking about.

So how do you go about making an ‘accidental hit’, by accident of course... The track came about when French DJ Fatzo tried to demonstrate the difference between an edit and a remix to his dad, “... I took a song from the band Men I Trust, sped it up and added a drum beat and violin. After playing it to Oden, they loved it, and in turn, added their secret ingredients.”

Unlike the name might suggest, Oden & Fatzo consists of three people: The Parisian underground collective are a powerful fusion of the electronic live duo Oden, and house DJ Fatzo. Back in 2020 a bootleg version of ‘Lauren’ was uploaded to the YouTube channel of the electronic label Novaj, kicking off an unforeseeable wave of enthusiasm. That video is now approaching 4 and a half million views. Enthralled listeners begged for a commercial release, a year later Ministry of Sound/B1 cleared the sample and the track started its march across the airwaves and up the charts.

With its captivating beat and nostalgic catchiness, ‘Lauren’ makes up for the party nights lost to the pandemic lockdowns, and sees people dancing in their homes and on the streets, as concerts, parties, and live sets are finally making a return. As the trio put it: “This song was all about hope, freedom and a party atmosphere at a time when you couldn't go anywhere. We think it gave everyone who heard it a little bit of an escape, including us.” More
