Moments of unbridled creation often manifest themselves in rather eccentric ways. Be it a sudden eureka moment, where the internal light-bulb flickers on sharply, or the seamless state of flow that appears when writer and pen are in-tune. But what about electronic musicians and that of the equipment around them? In Robert Babicz’s instance, the very sounds produced by this relationship morph into shapes and colours; sonic frequencies become visible objects due to the rare phenomenon, and indeed gift, of synesthesia.

Evidenced by Robert Babicz ’s eighth album, Utopia , this inherent creative process has resulted in a body of work that embodies his own personal experiences, forming a life soundtrack to epitomise moments of both elation and hardship. Memories enjoyed contrast with those endured, interwoven in a tapestry of musical expression that encapsulates a human story we can all relate to. Set for release on Marc Romboy’s Systematic, a label of which the Polish-born artist is more than familiar with given his two previous ‘Butterfly’ LPs, the album touches upon some of society's fundamental challenges, most notable of which is our search for the ideal world. Perhaps most strikingly is Robert’s assertion that the ‘Utopia’ we seek is not in fact a destination; rather it is a journey, one in which we must introspectively assess the notion that to find “ a better world to live in, we must create it each day ourselves.

Each track therefore is a reflection of such a discovery, acting as an auditory representation of Robert’s personal tale and typifying the evolution that naturally ensues. In this instance the symbolic nature of the butterfly, showcased in the album’s cover artwork, represents this transformatory experience. The voyage soon begins with Childhood , an ambient introductory piece that blissfully sets the tone of the release with emotive keys and warm, ethereal pads. Heartstone soon takes the helm, as progressive synths converge on a rhythmic kick-hat backbone, before the instrument-dotted Heroes opens with a stunning guitar-riff lead and resonant snare patterns.

The subdued tones of Hotel Kalimba soon grace us, a beautiful interluding track that works to rise and fall simultaneously, paving the way for a reworked version of Sonntag, one of Robert’s most popular tracks previously released on the well-established Kompakt label. Come Down swiftly ups the tempo, featuring a compelling main bassline that accompanies the poignant storytelling of vocalist Zera , before the hypnotic hum of Super Cactus softens the pace and gifts us a glimpse into a world far-removed from ours.

We are graced with another bespoke offering in Sin , an enchanting seven-minute rework of Robert’s debut Systematic track of the same name, whilst the heartfelt sense of No One Else undulates with a gentle lucidity, as Zera’s docile tones shimmer amidst a saxophone solo that evokes feelings of contemplation and anguish in one. Climax soon emerges with its breaks-inspired drum patterns and ethereal synth pulses, before the cosmic notes of Garden of Souls leave us in a haze of starry, wide-eyed reflection. Alice Rose ’s mesmerising vocals amplify the meditative qualities of Infinity Inside , a delicate penultimate record that unfurls into the album’s eventual closing track: Utopia .

The Cologne based Pole is one of todays most prolific producers and his best known monikers Robert Babicz and Rob Acid are only 2 out of more than 10. He‘s been producing almost hundred releases in the past 15 years on almost every well reputed label. With his ongoing worldtour and the release of his new album „A Cheerful Temper“ on Systematic, 2007 has already been a busy year for Robert Babicz. His Audiomatique discography already includes three excellent releases: „Lidia“ (am02, as Rob Acid) „Prism“ (am04) and „Markatech“ (am15) with the latest „PingPong in Moonlight“ to follow in September 2007. On the A-side the title track „PingPong In Moonlight“ comes with steel-sounds, sharp hihats and a deeply pushing bassline. Robert Babicz is already up to his third release on Audiomatique. “Lidia” was the first, under his alias Rob Acid in October 2004, then “Prism” as Robert Babicz in December 2005 and now “Markatech”, to be released late May, 2006. It looks like Mr. Babicz, who hails from the Cologne region, is tuned in to the Audiomatique sound. “Markatech” on the a-side is an absolute club monster, whilst “Sleeping Beauty” comes along with a more relaxed and dreamy vibe. On the one hand, claps, hihats and acid bleeps push things forward, rave signals paired with seriously dark basslines, plus some of those unmistakeableingredients designed to drag you onto the dancefloor and propel you all the way to hysteria.
Mood-wise, the flip side couldn’t be more of a contrast. The ingredients may be fairly similar, but the composition is different. As titles go, “Sleeping Beauty” is a pretty accurate title, hinting at the un-clubby, relaxed and peaceful atmosphere . A really versatile 12“ courtesy of Robert Babicz, very nice indeed. More

Swedish phenomenon Tiger Stripes returns to Audiomatique with a funky little number indeed. Going by the name of ‚Glorified‘, this return to the fore (and of course the dancefloor) is a fitting addition to the Audiomatique
catalog, ever growing and pushing cutting-edge, techy house and techno. ‚Glorified‘ opens with a tight swinging groove, an easy going vibe and a light and airy positive vibe. As we get quickly drawn into Mr.Stripes‘ snaking arrangement, an uplifting speech arrives from a preacher from the House of Jack! Smooth organs and high-end production values wrap up this unavoidable winner. Acclaimed producer Rodriguez Junior lends his hand to remix ‚Glorified‘ and really delivers a stellar treatment - drawing out the introduction and adding tension. Pushing drums lead a pitching, super-stereo chord pattern as the filters open and evolved into an early morning anthem.

We welcome a newcomer to the Audiomatique roster as talented Brazilian producer Wehbba comes to the fore with the glorious ‚3Days'.
Wehbba has explored many zones of the tech-house genre and now brings his expertly polished beats to Steve Bugs pioneering label. The groovy, sample-laden beats of ‚3Days' are a tribute to that very special 60s festival of fun and music. Now some 40 years on we are still finding ways to escape to other zones and Wehbba's solid grooves allow us to do just that!
Prolific minimal/techno producer Mihalis Safras engineers a crafty remix on the flip side, strengthening the groove further with dramatic snare shots and heavy bass surges. Trip-out FX and careful use of the sample material make this a reliably heavyweight tech-house journey.

Slow building and totally infectious this trippy late-nighter is built for the big rooms and will have you reaching for the lasers in no time. On a slightly lighter tip, ‚How We Feel‘ warms us with funky, energetic percussion in a modern and positive tech-house jam. Tigerskin aka Alex Kruger is certainly one of the most prolific artists releasing electronic music these days. His Tigerskin alias has released music on a plethora of respected platforms, far and wide across the spectrum of electronic music labels. Lead cut 'Everybody Likes Ollie' whirls and skips across a liquid platinum backdrop of silky smooth grace and ecstatic wonder. Part tough pumping house, part disco, part future techno, its an anthemic track that throws the listener right in the middle of an epic, mind-blowing main event! Uplifting spaced-out synths sing and climb, augmented by funky percussion patterns and classic strings stabs. Pure quality, as if we expected anything less from this producer!
On the B-Side the longer and more tripped 'Supersonic' comes on strong like a techno classic. Bubbling and freaking in the background with off-kilter FX, and building slowly as a number of momentous synth elements mark its incline, its a building monster of the highest order.

Hamburg‘s very own Stimming arrives on the hospitable shores of a freshly cut Audiomatique with the wonderful ‚Buxton Pipes‘ EP. With releases on Diynamic, Freerange, Terminal M and Liebe*Detail Martin Stimming‘s carreer was boosted by the underground hit „Una Pena“ last year and peaked in his debut album ‚Refl ections‘ earlier this year. ‚Buxton Pipes‘, the lead track on the new EP, is a beautifully reduced, gentle roller that combines textural, shifting fi ltered percussion, phasing, effected melodies and a rich sub-room sound design that confi rms Stimming‘s talents at working those subliminal zones. Dainty, pretty and yet totally punchy at the right volumes, its a genuine slice of ultra modern micro-post-minimal- house. Continuing the trippy, time-melting vibe perfectly, ‚Kakusei‘ arrives with its pushing array of softened percussion and carefully extended spooky breakdowns. Sliding and squelching through 7 minutes of prime tracky workout territory its another stellar addition to the record. Already a mainstay in the scene with admired releases on brother label Poker Flat, and of course Connaisseur, Patrick Chardronnet returns with a wonderful 2 track EP on Audiomatique. A delightfully trippy, post-minimal adventure, ‚Piper‘ raises the brow for Chardronnet, dropping the big room synths this time in favour of a very organic, low-slung addictive groove. Sparse, tricky percussion underpins the headsdown late night vibe, as a drifting ensemble of mystic vocals and haunting horns unfolds over 11 minutes. Enchanting, mesmeric and deeply spaced, this reduced-percussive foray explores Chardronnet‘s more hypnotic side... a priceless cut of of hybrid house from a modern master. Two more brooding cuts await in the shifting shapes of ‚Madeleine‘ and ‚One Room‘, alongside a pushing, bouncing remix from Germany‘s own Gregor Tresher. The prolific DJ, producer and lord of the Slovenian undergound, Umek has been a long standing figure on the international Techno scene and produced countless EPs and remixes since his production debut over a decade ago. Now, freshly primed for action in today‘s high-tech club culture, Umek brings us three exclusive tracks full of funk, attitude and substance! The title track, ‚Intense Emotion‘ is an energetic, bouncing bomb that relies on sharp synth stabs to flavour an already delicious concoction of tight beats and cooly refined basslines. The wandering synths fill the spectrum and really lift things off as the track picks up speed, throwing us toward the pushing climax. After some very well received releases for the likes of Renaissance and Kickboxer records, Stephan Hinz, who has also turned out some hot tracks alongside Martin Eyerer, presents ‚Bacala‘. Its a cheekily warped excursion into Hinz‘s deep and melancholic dancefloor world, spurred on by a great theme melody, as if you found yourself in the middle of a medieval rave after a long and victorious battle! Tight, familiar percussion works the groove, building towards a dramatic break which introduces more layers of synthesised wonder! Check this in the main room for maximum effect. Audiomatique key player Adultnapper‘s remix comes on strong, with a tougher drive and a slightly more freaked out vibe. Trademark hissing percussion works over a finely tuned minimal groove, eventually allowing that haunting melody to show its colours.
