Live Trax Vol. 1 is the first in a series of new releases that come from live hardware sets
recorded straight to 1/4” tape.
It’s rough & ready deep house that’s been road-tested on cultivated dance floors, including
Heidigluhen, Block 9, Sunset Sound System and Love International.
Two years ago, a good friend - who knows stuff - suggested I should do a live show. Thinking it an
interesting concept, I started building the idea of a full set with new and old music, and set up my
hardware in a way that would allow me to make it work.
Distilled down to the essentials, my live touring rig consists of four main pieces of gear -
Sequentix Cirklon, Roland MC-707 & TR-8S, and a 1010 Music Blackbox.
This process led to making music in a new way that harks back to the 90’s when I started - all
hardware, minimal gear and recording versions straight down to the Studer A80 Tape machine.
These tracks are the beginnings of the fruits of this process.
If you don’t know me: as well as doing my own music, I work in various capacities as producer,
mix engineer and arranger for Honey Dijon, Luke Solomon, Gideon, Horse Meat Disco
Defected Records and lots more.
I’ve performed at as some the best clubs and festivals including Genosys & NYC Downlow at
Block 9, Heidegluen, Adonis in London and Panorama Bar.
My style of house and techno has always been tipped towards the underground, with raw, deep &
driving sounds all key to the mix.

Limited Orange Vinyl EP

Dallas Native Lance Desardi arrived in Los Angeles alongside his roommate JT Donaldson sometime around 1999. At that time I was the head buyer & managing L.A’s largest independent dance music shop in the heart of Hollywood “Beatnonstop” on Melrose Avenue. We had just put out a double pack vinyl on Beatnonstop and a single on PCH feat. Myself & Cpen on both.

Lance & J.T were introduced to me by Chris Penny aka CPen who was also a Dallas transplant to L.A and as chance would have it they were both looking for jobs. The two had been sojourning in Chicago for about two years under the tutelage of Spencer Kincy aka Gemini and the House Mayor of Chicago Derrick Carter.

I hired them both and we soon became fast friends. I would lend them pieces of gear and keyboards etc to work on projects and suddenly we had this little community of producers and artist’s working on beats, bringing them into the shop for “show & tell.”

This created a healthy atmosphere of us all pushing each other to make songs for the labels. This is one of the reasons Seductive, Pacific Coast House & Pacific Traxx etc were started to house the different projects and alias’s of us at that time.

One day Lance showed up to work at the shop beaming from ear to ear a some pep in his step. Him and another co-worker Jaime G had gone into the studio that week and banged out “Jazz Salad.”
As soon as Lance slipped in the DAT tape and the track came thundering through the speakers with Jaime’s deep Latin intro I knew it was going to be a big tune in the underground. Such a groove and so infectious it is undeniable even today 20 odd years
later.

So nice to see it back out on wax and not at the hefty discogs price tag of over a hundred quid! The flip side “Boing” is a deep late night groover that fits nicely into a Mark Farina style set with bonus beats to boot. Not to be missed. Classic.

Texas-born, London-based Lance DeSardi has remastered his classic 2013 cut 'The Power Of Suggestion' which was notably included on Carl Craig's masterful three-CD mix for Ministry of Sound. It's an organic sound with deft synth motifs and rolling drums topped with airy vocals and wispy melodies. The flip side offers a 2025 live version that is more driving and club-ready but still with the same majestic art of melody and outdoor serenity. It's one of those warm, fuzzy and soulful sounds that brings great joy and the spoken word vocal sample adds extra emotional depth.

Hudd Traxx call on London based US Producer Lance De Sardi for their last EP before they hit 50 Releases and celebrate their 10th Anniversary. De Sardi it seems is more than up for the task, and it's no surprise having had previous releases dating back to the 90's on classic labels like Seasons & Om, as well as his more recent Legwork Records, which he co-owns. Pariah kicks the EP off in fine style with a Deep House Monster of a track, smooth beats, an infectious vocal and lush pads ensure that this will be a big one for the heads. Although the EP only has 3 tracks there's plenty of variety. Flip for the B Side and find a tough Acidy number in Youth, and a groovy track in Race the Clock which is made for the dance floor. 2015 is already proving to be a big year for Hudd Traxx following releases from Iron Curtis & Nachtbraker, and Lance De Sardi keeps the flag flying high with this solid EP.

Back with a Bang, our old friend Lance DeSardi goes back to his early Deep House roots to bring us Expressions EP. The Bang The Box label boss (with partner Brett Johnson) is known for his classic deep house sound, deeply rooted in proper American House. Releases on Seasons, Classic & Om to name but a few. Legwork is back with a new single from our favourite cosmic crusader, Brother Nebula.

The A-side consists of a tape-crushed lysergic stormer, on which the Brother helps us to be mindful, and a couple of useful DJ tools from the same session. The B-side starts with a broken affair with pensive chords floating around bleeps and sounds of the universe, and finishes with a dubbed-out version of the previously-released and extremely well-received S.I.S. featuring San Francisco stalwart Solar.

Legwork 5 comes from Berlin-based bad boy Kenneth Scott. Tonight is a slow building affair with a heavy bass line that weaves it's way into your consciousness before opening up for all-out psychological warfare. On the flip the Legwork guys speed up the tempo and add steady drum work to give the main loop it's just deserts.

The 3rd outing from Legwork comes from one of our label heads in Lance DeSardi and singer/song writter Jesse Rennix. This one's been a long time in the making, but the final product is well worth the blood, sweat and tears. With a heavy nod to Prescription Records and the 1st & 2nd wave Detriot pioneers, emotion is the order of the day. Not much else to say, other than see for yourself... The heavens await.

Legwork's 2nd single comes from another one of our Texas compatriates, the indelible Brett Johnson, fresh off some amazing work on Classic, Get Physical, Rawax and other killer imprints. The Mission harks back to some of our favourite dub-techno moments, but keeps it's own flare with Brett's signature robo-rhythms and chopped and screwed vocal cuts. On the remix tip, it's label head Lance DeSardi & Convextion bringing their own flavour to the table respectively, with Lance stepping to the chord memory, deep bass, and over sampled drums, and Convextion going all the way out into hyper space with his usual sub-aquatic space funk.

For Legwork's first outing, we've recruited a seminal techno-soul producer from Dallas, Texas, who prefers to stay in the shadows, remaining nameless(ish). That said, anyone who's serious about Detroit techno know's his work on Matrix, Down Low, and most receintly Delsin. On Remix duty are fellow Dallas alumnus Lance DeSardi, head honcho at Legwork, and DJ Cle, the hardest massaging man in house music. A1. Down Off Cooper If this bassline doesn't hook you, check your pulse. Add some twisting and sliding pads to relentless machine-funked rhythms, and Robert's your mother's brother. A2: Where's Cityboy? The perfect complimentary tune to Down Off Cooper, this one's slightly deeper, while still keeping the drum patterns moving and bass rumbling enough for the most discerning of dance floors. B1: Down Off Cooper (Lance De Sardi & Cle Remix) Lance & Cle take Down Off Cooper to a more House-oriented dimension, never losing the techno soul of the original. The extra vocal snippet reminescent of classic M.A.W. dubs or Global Communication shoots this one into space.
