This EP marks the first release from a collaborative project between Tokyo based DJ/producer Iori Wakasa and Okayama's Keita Sano, born from a quiet resonance between their musical sensibilities.

In Japan, the academic year begins in April. Though born in 1988 and 1989, the two artists belong to the same school-year cohort under this system, yet within Japan's gengo era structure they stand at the symbolic end of one era and the beginning of another. The title 'A Shift of Eras' points to the moment when one era gives way to the next, suggesting not only the passage of time, but the subtle renewal of culture, perception, and values.

'Filtered Jewels' draws from the image of light shimmering like gemstones, or a space scattered with countless jewels, perceived through an imagined filter that gently alters the way the scene reveals itself.
'Heaven's Door' envisions the ascent of a transparent staircase floating above a sea of clouds, leading toward a quietly resting emerald-green door.
'Shocking Yellow', originally created in response to a specific request, incorporates carefully placed vocal samples while grounding the track in warm, rounded low frequencies and organic textures, shaped with DJ use in mind.
And finally, 'Time To Change' was reconstructed repeatedly with the hope of offering both solace and a quiet sense of encouragement, ultimately becoming a piece that reflects the underlying theme of the EP.

Wah Wah 45s present the long awaited new album from Afro-dub masters,Soothsayers, entitledFly Higher. With a history that goes back three decades, having released two classic LPs (TraditionandWe Are Many) and numerous EPs and remixes on the imprint, the band deliver possibly their finest body of work to date. Soothsayers' twelfth studio album will be released on vinyl only (and via Bandcamp) in September this year - twenty-five years since they unleashed their debut LP,Lost City. The album features the very essence of the band - the vital ingredients that have been part of their sound since the outset, incorporating the diaspora, family and community that they have built along their journey. Fly Higherblends Afrobeat, soul, jazz and dub grooves and is packed with uplifting, ear-worm melodies delivered via stirring three-part harmonies, horn hooks and mesmerising basslines. The sound is typically organic and warm, and showcases Soothsayers' original songwriting style, which in turn pays respect to a variety of influences, but avoids cliche and predictability.

Introduced by the digital single ‘Deixa Passar’, this 12” EP concretises on physical support the renewed collaboration between the two Schema Records artists Gerardo Frisina and Tomaz ”Toco” Di Cunto, working together again five years after the release of the EP “Frisina Meets Toco” (SCEP 487): the two unreleased songs here included, the aforementioned “Deixa Passar” and “Ilê”, are featured both in their original and reworked versions, and represent an excellent blend of samba jazz and Brazilian popular music. In both tracks, the music composed and arranged by Gerardo backs up the Portuguese language lyrics and melodic lines of Toco, who duets with Luzia Dvorek in an almost surprising contrast between serious and graceful sounds. The instrumental department features Gianluca Petrella on trombone, Eduardo Taufic on piano (Deixa Passar) and Fender Rhodes (Ilê), and Edu Moreno on flute (Ilê), in an excellent ‘union of opposites’, between popular music and modern sounds, between acoustic instruments and electronics, with mystical influences that envelop the songs with a mysterious and attractive aura. Not only musically, but also visually and lyrically, this EP is a tribute to the Brazilian culture and lands, already from a cover that re-imagines the iconic shapes of the famous Copacabana pavement in Rio De Janeiro: while “Deixa Passar” celebrates Rio’s carnival as an opportunity to momentarily free oneself from the burdens of life, “Ilê” recalls the traditions of Salvador De Bahia’s historic ‘bloco afro’ quarter called Ilê Aiyê.

Monsieur Van Pratt is one of the leaders of the edit game and his Illegal Disco is all the proof you need. This latest drop finds him tap into vintage Japanese rare grooves and flip them with his signature style. 'Space Scrapper' is up first and is the sort of comic cut that will have you wide-eyed as it reworks a celebrated Japanese musician and vocalist. 'Time Machine' is a big, stomping disco cut with rubbery bass riffs and Japanese city pop vocals riding next to cursing synths. It's a bright but steamy sound for when things really heat up. Delve into the quirky and psych-tinged world of Brazilian pianist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Mauricio Fleury. With more than a hint to Brazilian jazz greats like Azymuth, Deodato and CTI Records in their prime, Revoada is a groove based jazz-framed record, primed with other transitory musical vignettes which touches on Turkish psych and soul-jazz born out of the 70's film soundtrack genre. Revoada is a 6 track album and storyboard of Mauricio's migration and travels through Brazil's geographical oddities , its rural and urban enclaves. Recorded in Brazil, it's the result of numerous treks through funky flea markets, soaking up old vinyls and vintage cultural artefacts combined with a new life led in Berlin since 2022. Mauricio, as well as a founding member of Bixiga 70 (google Brazilian Afrobeat pioneers), a band he fronted for over 12 years, is also an in-demand collaborator and musician who as a pianist, guitarist and even percussionist has shared stages and studios with the likes of Brazilian greats including Gal Costa, Emicida, Lucas Santtana, João Donato and Liniker. In 2007 he had a life-changing experience meeting Tony Allen, at the Red Bull Music Academy. After hanging out, chatting music and life, Tony insisted to Mauricio to participate with Tony in a jam with blacktronica and soulful house music pioneers Ron Trent, Theo Parrish and Steve Spacek. Mauricio sums it up, "From that moment on, I was never afraid to collaborate musically with anyone, no matter who's playing. It also brought me to researching the connection between Brazilian music and Afrobeat which is something that still means the world to me". Another unforgettable session Mauricio undertook happened alongside João Donato and Marcos Valle, playing Donato's classic album Quem É Quem, live, a record seen as a blueprint for second generation bossa nova. Mauricio has worked with Gal Costa on two albums, Estratosférica Ao Vivo and her last studio album A Pele do Futuro. Fabio Sá and Vitor Cabral (bassist and drummer on Revoada) were playing with Gal at her last concerts, including in Berlin in 2022 before she passed. In contemporary music, Mauricio was part of Toy Selectah and Mexican Institute of Sound's Compass project. He's worked with Colombia's Los Pirañas and has even recorded a mysterious and unreleased album with Quantic. Revoada shows signature traces of Thelonious Monk, Ramsey Lewis' swinging soul sound, Deodato's drama, and styles from further afield, spreading into Turkish psych and Ethiopian jazz, when the time is right. Each track, led always by Mauricio playing multiple instruments with a choice selection of guests and core members on bass and drums, highlights Fleury's meticulous approach to finding the right timbre, utilising his arsenal of organs and effects pedals to set the mood, taking the listener to a specific place or memory that has shaped him. A vinyl DJ for over 25 years and someone who is immersed in digger and collector's culture, Mauricio places a lot of emphasis on the importance of the complimentary relationship between two artforms (DJ and composer/producer) in the sense of having a broad repertoire of musical knowledge, references and perhaps predictably, being a Brazilian, understanding the connection between rhythms. This is an impressive debut album that struts itself right into the runout groove.
