Tonight, both crowds are heading to the presentation of Daniel Gardner's record. A cult album that was revived thanks to a fresh concept and a remaster. By evening, Jonny Knuppel was packed. Among the guests - a flamboyant duo that couldn't go unnoticed. Some swayed to rhythms that felt like old friends, while others - luckier ones, perhaps - were discovering an entire world for the first time. As they approached the booth, Plate leaned in with a warm smile:

To Frivolous, dance music is about living life to the full, about acting out all possible human emotions in the eccentric, sweaty arena of a club. Daniel Gardner´s tracks engage the crowds with grooves bursting of life and startling, eerie atmospheres. Exotic samples arranged into improbable yet emotionally charged atmospheres create a very special Frivolous experience: The sounds of a primeval forest encounters a dignified, aristocratic piano, a beautiful Russian Waltz gets twisted into a overturning house groove. Romance turning into contempt, one´s home becoming alien and strange, “Metereology” deals with the experience of emotional extremes. Pulling us away from our pedestrian lives, the subtle compositions with Daniel´s charming voice take us to remote places and distant times. The unconscious realization that you've heard a certain melody or sound before gives the album the qualities of an instant classic. Employing multilayered soundscapes “Metereology” ties in with Cadenza´s earlier releases. Focusing strongly on the rhythmic sides of things, his new album is denser than its predecessors. The grooves have an enhanced inertia. Short melodic sequences create sustainable loops superseding elaborate forms on top. Frivolous merges his seminal genre bending qualities and Jazzy intricacy into grooves that push the house sound as far into the experimental realm as physically possible. The sonic arrangements are fused into one immersive idea that engages the dancers completely. With these sonic landscapes one is never quite sure which objects exist in their immediate environment and which objects are super-imposed. The sounds become a reality of their own, they create imaginary spaces. In an experience as exciting as uncanny everyone on the dancefloor realizes that the other, sonically projected environment is more real than anything else.

these humans live a sophisticated lifestyle in complete connection with nature. Daniel moved to a small cabin on top of a mountain. The frogs croaking him good night was the only sound he would hear. Being exposed to the raw forces of a primeval forest and the sea his creative juices began to flow. He started working on the album, the superiority of the nature and the ocean becoming its subjects. After four month of productivity and regained contentment Daniel´s girl friend was supposed to join him on the island for a final month. But on the day before her expected arrival, she sent an email splitting up with him. From that moment on the residual time on the island became intense: did a two-and-a-half-year-long relationship just resolve into nothingness? Or should he jump on an airplane in a final attempt at gallantry?
The title “Metereology” is related to this emotional rollercoaster: The crazy schizophrenic weather patterns we are currently experiencing makes it the ideal metaphor for the emotional turmoil that Daniel lived through. The album represents a journey with different emotional chapters: disappointment, depression, relief, excitement and exuberance for life. The eleven tracks span the spectrum of existential extremes and all the subtleties of emotional dissonance that exist between them. There is a mystical, idealistic side to “Metereology” relating to the crazy old ancient forests and the amazing landscape on this island. Yet there is the isolated, angry, frightened tone to it as well. The songs explore the whole range of experience from devoted love to detached solitude, from social commitment to radical autarchy. If you thought you could put your finger on the "Cadenza sound," think again. The label that's brought you "Orange Mistake", Achso and "La Mezcla" switches it up once again with new signing Frivolous, a familiar face to anyone following house music's irrepressible creative fringe over the past eight years also know for his excellent live acts. "C:\ My Consciousness" is the anthem you never knew you were waiting for, sounding nothing like you expected but everything you needed. It is, in other words, just what the doctor ordered. Frivolous (Canada's Daniel Gardner, today based in Berlin) has always displayed a unique gift for infusing jacking rhythms with a cocktail of big-band jazz, hypermodern jazz and plain old good humor. His records (for ~scape, Karloff and others) sound a little like you'd expect Raymond Scott's might, if he'd been around for house and techno. " C:\ My Consciousness" is no different: it's alive with bells and cheeky string vamps, New Years noisemakers and high-stepping bass lines. But for all its Technicolor glow, it never lapses into cartoonishness. Known for wielding a telephone receiver in lieu of a microphone in his live shows, Frivolous here treats us to a succinct sung/spoken refrain that goes right to the heart of that crazy thing we call love, and that'll be sure to stick in your head for days. All together, it's the perfect balance between light-heartedness and sober reflection. Reboot's remix digs into the percussive essence of the track, highlighting the congas and adding shimmying ride cymbals, streamlining the groove and stretching it out for nine delicious minutes. He stays true to the spirit of the original, though, sinking you deep inside the rhythm before the vocal hook finally emerges. Paired with bluesy Rhodes chords, it puts an unusually contemplative spin on a track that's otherwise all about the forward motion.Digital bonus "River's Fate" finds Frivolous back at his tricks, complementing clean-lined house rhythms with clarinets, string bass, dubbed-out trombone, chopped-up vocal shots - and something that sounds an awful lot like a sitar - to unusually musical effect. There's a sense of Balkan melancholy in the melody, but the track's nimble, skipping groove leaves no room for moping. It takes a special kind of magic to craft music so odd, yet so familiar. With a nostalgic nod to Frankfurt, the producer shows that it doesn't take much, just the right touch, to install a badass groove. Spacious arrangements and carefully placed synths turn the EP into an echo of a different time in the club.
The title track "Back To The Mood" orbits around that secret open-air energy - one of those full-circle cuts for the crew. You are missing the water, baby is all there is to say about "Flow Key", rolling away at 127, disguised but with energy. "Reso 02" is the track we all wanted to finish but never did, grooving along with restrained intensity, shaping the EP into something personal and unique. Closing off, "Push Yourself" is Geoff White meets Herbert in a club-ready outfit.

Ashtar Afterhours is Kenneth Graham - originally from Los Angeles, he has been a defining presence in electronic music ever since the 90s. Buying his first classic synthesizer, a Yamaha CS01, in 1984, he delved into music production at an early stage. Kenneth put out over 40 releases over the years- under his own name as well as stepping up under various aliases- Estelle Montenegro, KG Beat, Exit Strategy and many others. Kenneth also formed some super-groups together with friends, his Sun Children / Sunkiss project- together with David Alvarado- put out highly influential music on legendary Peacefrog Records.
Body Music was originally released on Plastic City in 2001 and it has been a Smallville favourite since a long time, so we are super happy to present this beauty as a repress, as always with a full cover artwork by Stefan Marx.

Jamie Roberts has been revered in electronic circles for years as an artist with a fastidious approach to creating his own sound, relentlessly drawing from his teenage influences growing up in Barnsley, a post-
industrial town in South Yorkshire. At 14, he started working on a maggot farm and credits the clanging sound of the farm’s industrial mincer as an early influence on his music. After playing in various metal bands,
Roberts’ musical horizons began to expand through visits to the West Indian Centre in Leeds, where he was introduced to the full spectrum of electronic music. He first emerged as Blawan at the turn of the 2010s with
EPs on cult labels such as Hinge Finger and Hessle Audio, earning widespread critical acclaim. He’s consistently experimented, pushing boundaries in his solo projects while collaborating closely with British

A lot is to be expected with having had these under our belts. But as you'd expect, we draw out quick, faster than Lucky Luke's shadow - this time with a deep as its gets Techno EP by ReKaB.
It's easy to forget that, at its core, Techno hopes for a better future. This new four-track EP of connoisseur-grade repetitive beats from ReKaB (AKA James Baker) reminds us of this with a reverent nod to the past and a look forward to a human-centred tomorrow.
Tradition is a big part of the ReKaB sound. Classic timbres run through all the tracks, but what James does so well is how he deploys and contrasts the elements. Piano chords layer late-night soul over syncopated bass. Comforting strings and ethereal pads upgrade your consciousness while your body remains rooted by Techno City square waves. Call and response between acid lines and synth patterns feel like the machines interact, whilst the ever-present 909 thump adds the all-important dance floor framework.

It's easy to forget that, at its core, Techno hopes for a better future. This new four-track EP of connoisseur-grade repetitive beats from ReKaB (AKA James Baker) reminds us of this with a reverent nod to the past and a look forward to a human-centred tomorrow.
Tradition is a big part of the ReKaB sound. Classic timbres run through all the tracks, but what James does so well is how he deploys and contrasts the elements. Piano chords layer late-night soul over syncopated bass. Comforting strings and ethereal pads upgrade your consciousness while your body remains rooted by Techno City square waves. Call and response between acid lines and synth patterns feel like the machines interact, whilst the ever-present 909 thump adds the all-important dance floor framework.
Throughout the whole EP, ReKaB shows deep knowledge and respect for the art form, proving he is no less than a master of the craft.

When Chuck D proclaimed "Bass, how low can you go?" on Public Enemy's anthemic 'Bring the Noise,' maybe he was pre-empting or inciting the 10,000 fathoms-deep, spine-bending basslines and sub-quake tremors of 'Implosion.'
Implosion is a crushing split album, appropriately released on The Bug's own PRESSURE label. Mapping out a new form of spectral dub, the sound is deliberately immersive, introverted, and yes, definitely implosive. In pursuit of heavy lids, blurred vision, and merciless bass bin punishment, it’s one part meditation, two parts low-end theory, and essentially a confession of devoted sound system addiction.
As expected from a tag team featuring British soundlab explorer and 'London Zoo' composer Kevin Martin, aka The Bug, and Michael Fiedler, aka Jah Schulz—a long-time graduate of Germany's new school of sound system reggae culture—the duo approaches their target differently yet share the goal of keeping their sound "raw" (Fiedler) and "brutally minimal" (Martin). This proves that opposites can attract, even if their tools are different and their methods sometimes diverge.
From such a disparate combo, hailing from different geographical and aesthetic backgrounds, contrasts are certainly on display, even within each artist's own contributions. From the melancholia and transcendence of 'Alien Virus (West Indian Centre, Leeds),' to the duality of ascension and descension on 'Hope,' or the Sunn 0))) in dub, visceral drone of 'Dread (The End, London),' to the tripped-out repetitions of 'Midnight,' which reinvents Chain Reaction for post-millennials, the result is both sacred and narcotic. Each track illuminates the emotional impact and atmospheric pressure being explored across this deceptively sparse album—a mastery of tone and texture.
This collection might be as reduced, minimal, and deep as The Bug has ever gone, perhaps echoing the solemnity of his recent Kevin Richard Martin Black release and invoking the futurist steppas self-pioneered on his previous Pressure album. Alternatively, Fiedler‘s Ghost Dubs project ventures into his most heavyweight direction yet, which is no mean feat considering his previous, the critically acclaimed album Damaged, was a monstrously massive triumph of analogue weight and enviable sound design.
Implosion is ice-cool, a stark contrast to the warmth and sociability of traditional Jamaican roots and the current trends in digi-dub. Instead, the mood is soaked in tension and intense dread, finding an unexpected melting point where classic dub's stark rhythm attack, isolationist ambience's eerie drift, dub techno's floatation strategies, and even the relentless riffs of doom metal collide. As the bass-obsessed pair drop what is arguably the heaviest ambient dub album to emerge from any electronic sector—a moody counterpoint to The Orb's fluffy clouds, etc, Martin has cited The Roots Radics, Black Jade, and On U Sound's Pounding System as heavily influencing his approach to the album, while Fiedler has expressed his admiration for Adrian Sherwood's productions and Rhythm & Sound's enchanting soundscape. Yet, the super heavyweight pulsations, emotive resonances, and bone-rattling vibrations detonated here effortlessly go far beyond these influences.

SML is the quintet of bassist Anna Butterss, synthesist Jeremiah Chiu, saxophonist Josh Johnson, percussionist Booker Stardrum, and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann. Their second album, How You Been, finds the supergroup of prolific composer/producers pushing ever further into the hyperrealist, collectivist approach to music creation nascently explored on their debut Small Medium Large, which was lauded as “awe-inspiring” by Glide, “exuberant” by the Los Angeles Times, and “an exciting milestone” by Pitchfork.
How You Been represents a breakthrough in the musical language of the group. This new work was crafted via extensive post-production of recorded improvisations from a handful of shows in a similar fashion to their debut, but whereas Small Medium Large was constructed from analog tapes of the band’s very first (and very modest) shows at bygone Highland Park LA venue ETA, How You Been was built with a far higher level of self-awareness and a far deeper pool of source material.
As SML has evolved and spread out in space-time, their fluencies, both as an improvising unit in performance and as a production team in the studio, have sharpened. At inception the band inspired disparate but distinctive artist comparisons like Essential Logic, Oval, Herbie Hancock’s Sextant, and electric Miles Davis, as well as assorted genre touchpoints like Afrobeat, kosmiche, proto-techno and new-jazz. With How You Been their work manages to both collapse and explode such derivatives, displaying a new, high resolution version of SML, fully-flowered into a new strain of sound, bound to incite its own copycats in due time.

Originally released in the wake of Drexciya’s seminal 1999 Tresor debut album 'Neptune’s Lair', this release marks its long-awaited return and first appearance on digital platforms. The remastered edition contains the original extended version of Fusion Flats and features new artwork by Detroit-based contemporary artist Matthew Angelo Harrison, whose reimagined covers continue to shape the Drexciya reissue series.
