Abstraxion - Trance Body Music
Tracklist 12":
A1 – Abstraxion - Wholes
A2 - Abstraxion - Gold
B1 - Abstraxion - Force
B2 - Abstraxion – Trance Body Music
Short Info:
Abstraxion once again delivers another twist to his exotic musical tale with "Trance Body Music". A four track collection
of 90’s-infused club rockets. Hi-NRG sounds that traverse the trance-techno-rave intersection.
Lead single ‘Whole’ is a distorted and relentless number that hammers along with skewed vocal chops and lashings of
bounce. ‘Gold’ however, is a more pushy heads-down affair. It's ramped BPM and vocals muster dewy-eyed Bonzaimemories, whilst harnessing the free spirit of the resurging eurodance movement.
Next out of the rave cannon comes ‘Force’, with its fierce tempo, jittering synth stabs and playful melody working
together to create a tidy dancefloor moment. The show is brought to a close with the bubbling title track Trance Body
Music. A perfect, almost soothing, finale to a wonderfully energetic adventure.

Shortinfo:
Abstraxion returns to his own Biologic Records to release this impressive revisited album - giving Tuff City Kids, Kasper Bjørke, Vessels, Clarian, Conforce, Mattheis, Ripperton, INIT, Eduardo De La Calle, Cleveland the freedom to have their own take on tracks from Abstraxion's 'She Thought She Would Last Forever' LP released in October 2016.
Ripperton's first mark on Spazieren is one of meticulous sound design and textures complemented by a poignant vocal that provides a wicked ambience. His second offering is rapt around a warm bassline with orderly percussive stabs. Init's remix has been crafted with precision - an unhurried and mysterious track that builds and anticipates smoothly due to the precise instrumentation and adept reverb that's been applied on the vocal. Conforce closes out the EP with intent by delivering a dark, forceful and abstract take on Spazieren.

Shortinfo:
After his stunning debut LP 'Break of Lights' on HAKT Recordings at the end of 2013, and releases on Nicolas Jaar's 'Other People' label, Harold Boué - better known as Abstraxion - is set to launch his second LP 'She Thought She Would Last Forever' in October this year. Abstraxion's career has already seen many highlights, two of which have been the label he runs with Belgian producer DC Salas reaching it's ten year anniversary this year and playing in some of the best clubs in the world. With his obvious talent and ability to create a pensive beauty in his productions, there is no doubt Abstraxion's career will continue to reach new heights. Full of reveries and hybrid explorations, Harold's second full length 'She Thought She Would Last Forever' evokes images of landscapes and forests. A stretching dark and dystopian atmosphere pervades the album, but he still manages to mesh the melancholy with an overarching and swelling euphoria. Contrasting themes of melancholia and exploring the tensions between expectation and reality. The explorative nature of the album is articulated clearly through Abstraxion's use of minor chords and organic sounds.
She Thought She Would Last Forever begins with 'An Error Occurred', a convivial albeit mysterious and energetic primer that then dives into the tight percussion and pensive vocals of 'Just What I've Always Wanted'. Title track 'She Thought She Would Last Forever' is a dramatic cut which transcends slickly into the rasping synth, and recoiling bass of 'Needed You' accompanied by the entrancing vocals of Loic Fleury from Isaac Delusion. 'Spazieren' is a 10-minute leisurely passage through dystopia that has been crafted with finesse. 'Blackout' is a minor key track whose lead synth is focused around an arpeggiator to create suspense. 'Seascape', a melancholic ambient track which shifts into the more energetic percussion of 'Not Far Away From You', picking up pace once again. 'Rinjani' is a melodic and menacing march with pulsing synth lines, leading expertly to the final track. 'Dystopia' blends otherworldly sounds from the distant future with percussion and reverb, creating space in the musical landscape and bringing Abstraxion's second album to an expansive and poignant close.
Mixed by Francis Harris in his New York studio.

Shortinfo:
After a series of releases on HAKT Recordings, Nicolas Jaar's Other People and a collab with Kasper Bjørke, Abstraxion returns to his own Biologic Records which he co-manages with DC Salas. ?

Tracklist CD: 1. White Rain Feat. Chloé 2. Moon 3. Every Night I'm Lying Feat. Astrid Engberg 4. Rising 5. Goodbye 6. Around Me 7. Break Of Lights (Album Version) 8. Yards 9. We Used To 10. Les Histoires
HAKT Recordings is pleased to internationally co-release Break of Lights, the stunning debut CD/LP from French musician and DJ Harold Boué, aka Abstraxion. If critics are merely a tough crowd, dance music producers rank tougher still, the London-based innovator's music has already garnered accolades (and spins) from both - including heavy hitters such as Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, James Holden and Dan Snaith (Caribou/Daphni). Full of melancholic reveries and hybrid explorations, Break of Lights reveals Abstraxion to be a standout producer and true obsessive to his craft. "The most important thing for me in this record was finding my own sounds and combinations to build a whole new world," says the producer of this, his first long player. "I wanted my album to be coherent and reflect what my project is about so that people could get into that timeless spaceship."
Break of Lights, consequently, abounds with texturally rich, rapturous gems and thoughtful meditations on the passage of time. Album opener "White Rain," featuring the whispered vocals of Parisian artist Chloé, winds plaintive guitar around modular synths and Abstraxion's own ghostly vocalizations. "Moon" bubbles with blinking synths and blip-and-bleep effects that, in a titular nod, flash celestially. "Every Night I'm Lying" marries tremendous beats with gorgeous vocals from Danish singer Astrid Engberg. Possibly the most hypnotic track here, "Around Me," warms with sonorous synths that speak like beautifully indecipherable utterances. And "Les Histoires," dedicated to the producer's father, emerges with half-recalled conversations from childhood, then drifts - as if via time - through spectral keyboards that filter past like memories.
Abstraxion co-manage the label Biologic Records with DJ, producer DC Salas. After putting out a series of EPs, he released the singles "Jus Acid" and "Jaipur's Elephant" on Different Records in 2011 and 2012, respectively. He has also released music on Marketing Music. Always a singular character with an ear for sound, he has built a music studio in Marseille with old analogic instruments. He spends his there time making electronic music that is as explorative and organic as possible. "I've built a system in my studio where I can spontaneously compose with all my instruments," he says. "That way, in the end, the track has the same warmth of feeling as the room during the recording process itself."

Tracklist LP: A1. White Rain Feat. Chloé A2. Moon A3. Every Night I'm Lying Feat. Astrid Engberg A4. Rising A5. Goodbye B1. Around Me B2. Break Of Lights (Album Version) B3. Yards B4. We Used To B5.

TRACKS:A1. Moon (Original) A2. Moon (Factory Floor Remix) B1. Moon (Death In Vegas Remix) B2. Moon (PVT Remix)
Following a wave of success with previous releases, Harold Boué aka Abstraxion is gearing up to release his debut LP, Break of Lights, via Have A Killer Time later this year. But first, the French DJ/producer & Biologic Records founder delivers his Moon EP in honor of the stunning single from the album complete with remix duties by Factory Floor, Death in Vegas and PVT.
A befitting eponymous nod, "Moon" is a captivating, celestial gem, ripe with flickering, twinkling synths. Almost seven minutes long, the track takes listeners on dreamy journey to new sonic horizons. Keeping true to their dystopian sensibilities, post-industrial London trio Factory Floor quicken and intensify the single's pulse while exuding a raw sense of urgency, resulting in a dancefloor banger.
Taking a decidedly different approach, Death in Vegas offer a slowed-down, dusky take on "Moon," transforming the original to a moody, subdued after-hours gem. Last on the EP is Sydney-based experimental trio, PVT, whose dynamic, bubbling bassline and amplified, stuttered synths make for an irresistible closing remix.
A melting pot of sound, the Moon EP is a promising glimpse of what's to come with Abstraxion ahead of his highly anticipated Break of Lights LP.

B2 - Azo - Love Bus (Original Mix)
Short Info:
Space… The final wasteland for the rich and entitled. A playground for the opulent. A fantasy for the 99.9 percent. A constant source of inspiration for artists. Artists like AZO.
Making her debut on Biologic Records, complete with a remix from Steffi, here we find the talented Belgian artist strapping up her rocket boosters for a four-track trip into infinity. It takes in influences from dark matter to Detroit, black holes to Brussels.
‘Aurora Space Station’ is a beautiful rave-inspired breakbeat floatation piece that sets the scene, poking fun at the mega-rich who can afford to seriously entertain the idea of leaving this planet for dust. More thrust is added by the deep space electro of Steffi’s thumping remix. Both have more power than all the fossil fuel Bezos and Branson have burnt in the last 10 years.
Deeper into the cosmos we probe…. ‘Neptunian Sea’ takes off from Chicago, fuelled on an intoxicating combo of acid and Italo. ‘Love Bus’ brings the anti-gravity heat with a heavy, hip-writhing nod to the jazz spirit of UR’s Galaxy 2 Galaxy movements.
We might not be able to afford a holiday in space, but we can afford great art like this. The dancefloor has always been the most effective place for teleportation. Ready for take off?

A1 - I Need A Bit Of Poetry (Original Mix)
A2 - I Need A Bit Of Poetry (Kim Ann Foxman remix)
B1 - Are You Not Sleepy (Original Mix)
B2 - The Curtain Falls (Original Mix)
Short Info:
Following her recent outings on Optimo and Butter Sessions Matisa wants to take you to another special place.
It's not here. It's not there. It's 'Elsewhere'...
Making her debut on Biologic, young Italian newcomer Matisa's adventure is plotted around three atmospheric, soul-affirming late-night gems that are all based around different chapters of the night and the mindset that comes with it. Loaded with an additional Kim Ann Foxman remix, this trip has something for everyone.
We start with 'I Need A Bit Of Poetry', Matisa's yearning for substance and meaning wrapped up in a bright, breezy timeless piece of house music that borders on the majestic realms of progressive. Think about poetry in all forms of life... Connections, adventure, but most of all - music.
Deeper into the trip we glide; first comes Kim Ann Foxman's crisp electro twist on 'I Need A Bit Of Poetry' which maintains that evocative rave vocal but switches up everything else for something much darker. Next we hit 'Are You Not Sleepy?' Inspired by the post-show brain chaos mindset we can all relate to, it's up-tempo, it's
trance-influenced, it's Matisa capturing that infuriating but exciting fizzy inspiration and adrenaline rush we all experience after a fulfilling show.
For the final chapter of this accomplished label debut, 'The Curtain Falls', Matisa takes us back to the source of that adrenaline rush. A bubbling disco house thumper, all reverbed drums and big synths, it's inspired by the moment when your set kicks in and the crowd are right behind you every track of the way and you lay your soul down bare for everyone to enjoy. If there's a place more special than that, we've yet to find it. Welcome to Elsewhere... We ain't going nowhere.
Support : Perel,Cormac, Bawrut, Younger Than Me, Pedro Winter, Fort Romeau, Zombies in Miami, Jennifer Cardini, Eclair Fifi, Fabrizio Mammarella…

A1 - Malcolm - Badman
A2 - Malcolm - Badman (Nathan Micay's I'll Have What I'm Having Remix)
B1 - Malcolm feat. Glitter - Damaa
B2 - Malcolm feat. Marc Melia - Schaerbeek
Short Info:
Hot on the heels of their Pletnev & Panorama Channel pairing, Biologic invite rising French bass sculptor and Rinse selector Malcolm to the fold for a brave new excursion into the rave hinterland. Smelting down everything we know, love and appreciate about soundsystem and bass culture, techno and melting pot alchemy, compounding it and flipping it in moody, deep stew, he delivers something genuinely unique and fresh here.
‘Badman’ ignites the smouldering sonic session with a slow-mo swampy low-end vibe that tips its cap just as much to jungle as it does techno thanks to its sense of tension and classic samples. Remix-wise Nathan Micay continues to unfold that immersive signature he’s been developing on LuckyMe with a breakbeat driven remix that brings aspects of trance and classic electro into the mix.
‘Damâa’ takes us even deeper into Malcolm’s reference-heavy mix as he teams up with fellow Parisian resident Glitter for a sublime Moroccan mission. Once again slow and moody, from its measured percussion to its rising harmonics, the mystic allure is pure and palpable in both the full vocal and instrumental forms.
We’re bid adieu with ‘Schaerbeek’. Powerfully unhurried, scant on kicks and heavily layered in psychedelic acidic layers, the real payoff happens in the last two minutes. We won’t spoil the surprise but whatever end of the bass spectrum or hardcore continuum you dwell, you’ll be all over this one.
Fresh, exciting yet completely entrenched in the rudiments of all things rave, bass, techno and soundsystem, Malcolm has fine-tuned an exceptional blend of elements here. We hope to hear a lot more from the young producer as he continues to forge his own unique path.

A2 - Panorama Channel & Pletnev - Blavatsky (Yu Su remix)
B1 - Panorama Channel & Pletnev - Eiffel Tower Syndrome
B2 - Panorama Channel & Pletnev - Eiffel Tower Syndrome (Simple Symmetry remix)
Short Info:
They’ve been moving in the same circles and bouncing off the same vibe cosmology for years. But this is the first time Lithuanian Pletnev and Russians Panorama Channel have ever officially collaborated. And they’re doing it right here on Biologic.
Three originals, two remixes, one consistent immersive vibe that envelops you from the start and builds in intensity; this is how it all goes down…
‘Blavatsky’ takes us on a theosophical trip. All mid tempos and woozy psychedelics weaving, layering, twisting and taking sudden detours, not only does it sets the scene for what’s to follow but it’s flipped by a sublime remix from You’re Me’s Yu Su who whips up an ageless nod to the legacy of Two Lone Swordsmen.
‘Eiffel Tower Syndrome’ follows. Intense, edgy, and prone to paranoid flurries over a heavy driving beat; unlike its medical namesake this will not result in disappointment. And neither will Simple Symmetry’s remix. Another thoughtful remix pairing from Biologic, here the Moscow brothers provide a flip that’s as similarly ageless as Yu Su’s; slower, heavier and rife with references, this one recalls the influence and energy of a young Coldcut when they first got fully paid.
Finally this pop-up Baltic/Slavic threesome end the release with the heaviest, most intense tune of the set. ‘Black Market Weekdays’ is a hot slab of rolling technoid drama with more eye-raising surprises than a truck load of knock-off DVDs and more weight than a tonne of counterfeit Rolexes. Murky, mean and fully forward-focussed, let’s hot Pletnev and Panorama Channel find time to join forces again in the future…

A1 Intro A2 Silently (ft. Joy Wellboy) A3 Victor A4 She's Lost B1 Niños (ft. Mirror Minds) B2 Cala Falco (ft. Joy Wellboy) B3 The Unspoken B4 Enfant Bruit (Album Edit)
Shortinfo:
Having established himself as a vital figure in the Brussels music scene, Biologic Records co-founder DC Salas
presents his debut album 'The Unspoken'. The 10-track LP features collaborations with fellow Belgian electropop
duo Joy Wellboy and Mirror Minds.
After a string of dancefloor oriented EPs, he draws inspiration from his live act and diverts away from the club to
explore the more melodic aspects of his sound. More than just a format, the album structure is used here as a
method of storytelling, using the spontaneity of live music making to express varying emotions without restraint.
Lead single 'Cala Falco' is a slow building track that treads carefully between warmth and melancholy, using subtle harmonic progressions to play with the mood of Joy Wellboy's vocals.
Title track takes cosmic melodies and layers them in polyrhythmic forms to hypnotic effect, whilst 'This Love'
uses skeletal percussion to carry retro-futurist melodies.
Many of the tracks produce textures that are only achievable with the use of hardware. From the sombre
harmonies and crisp drums of 'Victor' to the swelling tension of 'Enfant Bruit', DC Salas masterfully navigates his
equipment to create emotive and powerful sonic spectrums.
The entirety of the production process was done with close friends, including mixing by fellow label owner
Harold Boué (aka Abstraxion) and a video collaboration with Victor Pattyn.

A1 - Matin, B1 - Nuit, B2 - Ivre
Shortinfo:
Abstaxion and Kasper Bjørke return for their second collaboration on DC Salas and Abstraxion's Biologic Records imprint. 'Matin + Nuit' is a 3-track EP out in April. Biologic records aim to explore the relationship between organic and analogue, natural and urban. This idea of polarity is addressed here through the themes of morning and night. 'Matin' is a ten-minute journey through a glistening landscape. Celestial arpeggios and subtle dissonances are grounded by a hypnotic bassline and restrained percussion. 'Ivre' (drunk) takes an emotive turn. Disorienting acid bass winds its way through mournful harmonies and overcast melodies, held together by a spirited rhythmic pattern. 'Nuit', naturally, progresses into darker territory. There are familiar elements of disco, but they've been mangled to create something far more twisted. Drums take the lead, punctuated by assertive bass stabs and ominous chords that howl through cavernous acoustics.
'Matin + Nuit' explores seemingly familiar themes without the use of cliché, employing a diverse range of sound manipulation techniques to paint vivid imagery.

Shortinfo:
Dutch producer Nathan Surreal debuts on Biologic Records with ?Star Dust? featuring remixes from Adesse Versions and Neville Watson. Exploring abstract, ?surreal? and melodic electronic sounds, the Dutchman is a perfect addition to the Biologic roster. Appearing on a host of underground labels since 2014, Nathan is set to make a breakthrough with ?Star Dust'
Balancing on the edge of reality and pushing further into the abstract and surreal worlds ?Star Dust? unfolds through waving synths and dubby bass lines. ?$$$? is a darker track, the bassline punchier and driving acid-tinged synths create a dance-floor ready record. Next up ?Human Music? has a more minimal introduction, building in intensity as the synths come through until finally the melody drops, maintaining the dreamy top line that Nathan is so adept at maintaining. Neville Watson provides the first remix on the EP, he adds reverb to the vocal, amplifying its effect on the track. ?Star Dust? is intensified, perfect for late night, or early morning, dance floors. Addesse Version?s remix of ?Star Dust? is a twisted acid remake, a left-field and off kilter beat is slowed down to a psychedelic swirl, pulsating throughout the track.

A5. Soldier Of Peace
B1. True Lies
B2. Psych Jazz
B3. Don´t Worry
B4. Stay With Me
Short Info:
Founded in 2020 by Austrian producer Lee Stevens, Rising Seed has evolved into a joint venture with Ken Hayakawa and a collective of guest musicians. Blending Acid Jazz, Trip Hop, and Disco, the project bridges the warmth of live instrumentation with the depth of electronic production.
With a strong focus on recording and re sampling real instruments, Rising Seed crafts a rich, organic sound—where vintage samplers, drum machines, and analog textures meet hypnotic grooves and cinematic atmospheres. Inspired by artists like Moby, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Massive Attack, their debut album True Lies unfolds like a layered collage, blurring the lines between past and future, truth and illusion.
The opening track, “Follow Me,” perfectly embodies this fusion: sampled instruments and vocal snippets blend seamlessly with live recordings of flute and saxophone, all set against a funky drum break. “Gone West” does the unthinkable—marrying a house groove with esoteric vocals, live sitar by Amrith Jan, and—why not?—a touch of harmonica. “Like A Lion” is a dub-infused downbeat track packed with crusty blues samples.
On “Freedom,” we hear a more minimalist side of Rising Seed, with a tight brush-drum arrangement and densely layered sitar melodies. Another high point is “Soldier of Peace,” featuring even more funky sitar and a subtle acid line, reminiscent of the early days of big beat. It’s followed by “True Lies,” which elegantly distills the downbeat sound of the late '90s while staying true to the Rising Seed formula.
“Psych Jazz” is, as the title suggests, both psychedelic and jazzy, albeit with a somber, low-slung trip-hop feel, while “Don’t Worry” is equally trippy yet more upbeat, carried by a moaning vocal sample that urges us not to worry. Finally, “Stay with Me” closes the album with a jazz-infused vibe that is both moody and uplifting, its shuffling drum groove and elegant piano melodies providing a fitting conclusion.

SHORT INFO:
Tom Jarmey returns with Daybreak, a widescreen second album weaving ambient textures, dusty drum breaks and hazy melodies into a deeply emotive listening experience. Known for his genre-blurring releases on Holding Hands and X-Kalay, the London-based producer continues to push his sound into bold new territory. "Chasing the funky symphonies that filled my head and my dreams..."
December 25th, 2023 - an Instagram post. Stimulator Jones shared half a dozen FIRE tracks from his beat tape archive. We were immediately drawn to the rough hewn boom bap.
"I'd release that", Rob commented.
Hours of material was shared and the result is this: Cool Green Trees (1999-2005). A collection of beats and loops Stimulator Jones created between the ages of 14-20 at home in his basement, bedroom and computer room in Roanoke, Virginia.
You will not believe the profound soulful genius contained within these naive schoolboy melodies.
December 25th, 1998 - 25 years ago to the day and his much-coveted Yamaha SU10 sampler was finally bestowed upon young Stimmy AKA Sam Lunsford: "I immediately hooked up a CD Walkman to the input jack and looped the beginning two bars of Grover Washington Jr.'s "Mercy Mercy Me". I don't know what exactly was so thrilling about hearing two measures of music repeating over and over but it was so infectious and hypnotizing and enthralling to me. I'll never forget that ecstatic rush of making my first loop - an uncontrollable, gleeful smile plastered all over my face." When you hear the pocket breakbeat symphonies featured here on Cool Green Trees, you'll feel the same sense of frisson.
In the wake of his Stones Throw breakthrough - Exotic Worlds & Master Treasures - Stimulator Jones was pegged by many as a 90s throwback artist. However, he literally IS a 90s artist. He's been recording music most of his life and he's now 40. He created the bulk of Cool Green Trees as a teenager. Everything before 2004 was recorded when Sam was still in school. He was in 8th grade when he made the 1999 tracks - he didn't even have his learner's permit. This album is a snapshot of a young man in a simpler time. Things were still mysterious back then and he was flying blind, relying on his ears and having to figure things out for himself: "I had no road map for becoming a beatmaker. I have been collecting music since I was a kid, I am a lifelong digger and seeker of cool and interesting sounds. I was there in the golden age of Hip Hop, and while I may have been a suburban white kid in Roanoke, Virginia, I was tuned in and I bought so many classic albums when they came out. I was attracted to Hip Hop because of the musical and poetic quality. I was hypnotized by the rhythms, partially because I was a drummer. I didn't brag about collecting my breakbeat records or making beats - it was something I did in isolation. It wasn't something I generally wanted to bring attention to and it didn't really score me any cool points. I certainly wasn't flexing on social media about it."
Hell, he can do that now!
Opener "Pharoah Jones" was inspired by Yesterday's New Quintet and Madlib's ability to capture that classic 70s sound whilst playing all the instruments. Sam created this one stoned afternoon by laying down a 2 bar loop and a shaker loop on his Yamaha SU700 sampler. He hung a microphone from the ceiling and played his Yamaha Stage Custom drum kit over the top before adding ender Rhodes and playing his dad's Selmer tenor sax through an Electro Harmonix Memory Man echo pedal. Yes! Up next, "Ghost Gospel" utilises a dope loop from a gospel record and adds some soul-funk drums overtop, whilst working that filter knob. Says Sam: "The loop reminded me of something Ghostface would rap over. The sample was in 3/4 waltz time but I flipped it for a 4/4 groove, a technique I picked up from RZA. "Ill Feeling" uses sped-up pieces from a dusty old funk record and putting them over a classic NOLA drum loop; gain chopping up a slow, bluesy 3/4 time signature and bending it to a 4/4 groove. Classy shit. "Capital Punishment" features drums tapped in live, inspired by MF Doom's Special Herbs series. "Do Not Adjust" consists loops found on a compilation of 70s French music at Happy's Flea Market, a classic Roanoke digging spot.
The sublime, evocative title track, "Cool Green Trees" was created when Sam was still living at home. He dumped samples off his SU10 into the family desktop and arranged them in a demo version of Pro Tools: "This track was sort of my ode to the DJ Shadow style of sample based production. Super spacey, slow, and moody. The heavily filtered drums were inspired by Alec Empire's 'Low on Ice' album. I later added some scratches and sounds from a Spider Man storybook record." "Chill Scratch" snags the final bit of a bossanova record and pairs it with a drum loop before adding experimental scratching run through an Electro Harmonix Memory Man echo pedal. "Poisonous Fumes" was made using a sampler, mixer and a turntable; a kind of mixtape beat collage with added scratches and sounds from various records. Using dialogue from superhero records was a nod to Madlib. "Welcome Aboard The Starship" is dark, downtempo trip-hop with a spooky bent. Sam paired a slow, hard drum loop with a guitar sample grabbed off a psychedelic rock record. To finish, he added various backwards sounds and weird atmospheric effects and a little scratching. Swoon.
Side B opens with "Keep On Runnin", made on a borrowed Roland SP202 sampler. Having always loved the sound of the Lo-Fi filter on those machines, reminiscent of the Emu SP1200, Sam always imagined Del or another of the Hieroglyphics crew rapping over this beat. You can certainly hear why. "Sounds Impossible" sees Sam experimenting with layering multiple kick samples at different volumes to create patterns similar to those heard by Showbiz and Lord Finesse during their God-level 1995 period. "Painted Faces" was made by chopping up a [REDACTED] record which he had gotten from Happy's Flea Market and paired it with a [REDACTED] drum loop. By the time Sam recorded "The Knew Style", he had acquired a shitty old 1960s portable turntable off eBay. It didn't function properly when he bought it but his brother opened it up, cleaned it out and got it working: "I remember he told me that there was a bunch of sand inside of it when he opened it up, as if its previous owner had taken it to the beach. I would take that turntable on my Happy's Flea Market digs so I could preview records...that's how I found this loop."
"Chicken Wing Blues Sauce" loops up a classic blues joint and pairs it with some [REDACTED] drums. A bit of filtering and arranging et voilà! "Kool Breeze", from 1999, is one of Sam's oldest surviving beats, as is "Sexx Bullets". The Roots sampled the same record, leaving Sam frustrated yet vindicated. "Soul Child" was an early SU10 creation, looping a dusty old Soul Children 45 and pairing it with 70s rock drum loops to great effect. "Take Off Runnin" was another loop found digging with a portable turntable. Paired with some boom bap drums it makes for a hypnotic head-nod groove. "Centurian" was intended to be a little beat interlude a la Pete Rock. The sample is from a sun-dappled soft-psych record and it's paired with a Robin Trower drum loop that just happens to fit perfectly. Sometimes you slap things together kind of haphazardly and magic happens. "Bozack" was the first beat Sam made using Pro Tools, his first foray into using chopped sounds instead of loops, an exciting new world. "Church" is beat interlude using a Phil Upchurch loop with the "Long Red" drums - a favourite break of Dilla et al. Sam was really on a tear in late 2004, probably because he was unemployed and phoneless and able to just make beats all day. He made "Splash One" on a borrowed Yamaha SU700 and again was experimenting with tapping the drums in live with his fingers, instead of using a loop or sequenced pattern. Channeling 9th Wonder, Sam used a water splash sound effect from a Batman record as a percussive element, hence the title (also a 13th Floor Elevators reference). The main loop is a backwards portion of one of his favourite Roy Ayers songs.
"Hank" is another fun little beat interlude thing, created on a borrowed Roland SP202 sampler with the fantastic Lo-Fi effect that resembled the Emu SP1200 at a fraction of the price. "73 goatee", from 99, is another of his oldest surviving beats, created in his bedroom with his Yamaha SU10 and his brother's Vestax MR-300 4-track recorder: "This one will always feel special. I can remember having a feeling all the way back then on the night that I created it that this was a solid beat with a catchy loop. There was something in the Fender Rhodes melody that resonated with me emotionally, and I had never heard a producer sample that portion before. I felt like I had found my own unique sound, my own unique loop. It came from an Ahmad Jamal '73. I actually even recorded myself rapping and scratching over this beat way back then, I still have that version in all its imperfect sloppy glory."
Sam explains just how much these tracks mean to him: "They all have immense historical and sentimental value and I'm proud of them. These beats come from an innocent, simple time when I was just figuring out how to craft these sounds. They're something very personal to me. They are the initial part of a journey that I really was taking *alone*. There was no YouTube. I couldn't Google shit. I didn't even know any other beatmakers, producers or DJs in my town that could teach me anything. It was always just me, alone, in a room with some equipment - chasing the funky symphonies that filled my head and my dreams. What I was doing wasn't cool. Most of my peers thought I was a weirdo and couldn't care less. Creating these sounds was an anti-social endeavour. In a sense, I felt like it was me against the world, and all I had to instruct and assist me were the recordings produced by my heroes - RZA, DJ Premier, Erick Sermon, Beatminerz, Showbiz, Diamond D, Beatnuts, Prince Paul, The Bomb Squad, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, E-Swift, Mista Lawnge, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Peanut Butter Wolf, El-P and so many more...I dedicate this collection to them, and to my older brother Joe who has always been a musical and technical guiding light for me.
This was a time before every kid was a self-described producer and beatmaker, before everyone had a DAW, before Kanye and "chipmunk soul", before Red Bull beat battles, before there was any social media beyond chat rooms and AOL Instant Messenger, before Soundcloud, before SP-404 mania, before lo-fi beats to study to, before Splice, before targeted ads for MIDI chord packs, etc. In 99 when I told people that I had a sampler and made beats I was mostly met with bewildered confusion and indifference. Kids and adults alike would wonder why I got this weird machine for Christmas instead of something worthwhile like a Playstation or a mountain bike or even a guitar for that matter because at least that could be used to make "real music". Back then, sampling was still not widely respected as an art form - it was seen as lazy, talentless and unoriginal at best and outright criminal theft at worst. I had gotten respect for playing drums and guitar and things of that nature but this was a step in the wrong direction in the eyes of many."
The cover photo is a picture of Sam standing on his back porch in the latter part of 1998, just before he got his first sampler. He was 13 years old, in 8th grade. His dad took the picture with his 35mm film camera: "I actually wanted to be pointing my dad's .22 pistol at the camera lens but he wouldn't let me. He gave me an old walking cane to use instead. The Tommy Hilfiger puffer jacket came from the lost and found at William Fleming High School where my mom worked as a secretary. I was thrilled when she brought it home because we never spent money on expensive name brand clothing like that - we were for the most part strictly a sale rack, bargain bin, thrift store, yard sale, flea market kind of family when it came to clothes. My watch is some cheap off-brand fake gold department store watch." Mastering for this vinyl edition was overseen by Be With regular Simon Francis and it was cut by the esteemed Cicely Balston at Abbey Road Studios to be pressed in the Netherlands by Record Industry.

Growing up on the north Atlantic island of Iceland bestows one with an unusual and often intense relationship with light and colour: Summers come with endless days, Winters with scant sunlight yet increased sightings of the Aurora Borealis; the mysterious and awe-inspiring glow across the sky. Channelling these energies, Exos
comes to Tresor with his Green Light EP, a five-track collection of the sort of spectrally rich techno synonymous with the Northman’s 27-year career.
Across the EP, the five tracks fizz and pulsate driving ever forward, making the release’s title a three-way play on words referencing the continuous travelling of photons, the verdant warping of the Northern Lights, and the universal colour for Go, for forward propulsion. Smart wordplay can also be found in titles like Grátt Silfur, a term in Íslenska (literally “grey sliver”) which signifies a tension between two parties, further extending the colour metaphor and dark/light dichotomy found elsewhere.
The digital release comes with three extra tracks that continue the dynamic energy, pushed along by the same shifting, mutating force where the music often feels like voices calling out from the darkness or the shimmer of light as the sun rises across the horizon.
Green Light EP continues this year’s blazing return from an artist who, similar to his output, is never stagnant: ever changing form yet ever moving forward.

Short Info:
Sharing a mutual love for Dance Music in all its shapes and forms please welcome Philipp Lauer & Johannes Albert for the first time together. These Bucketheads overcame the franko-hessian border and give us a 3-Tracker on the A side that is "Based On Boss". The title track swims in 909 Drums, vocal samples shine through, and organ chords lead the way. You will be moving your feet with "Four 44", still all about a basement, a red light and lots of feeling. Rounding things up with the loopy powers of "Posh-O-Rama", if you are in need of soft breaks with a lovely twist. Now who's the boss?
Speaking B sides: Hamburg-Moenchengladbach-London? Probably not your everyday route. Three pillars in their own leagues team up for "Survivor": Boris Dlugosch, Marc Romboy and C.A.R. on vocal duties. Created in times of lockdowns and standstills "Survivor" is a midtempo stomper, slightly dark yet extra moving. Clocking in at 110 BPM a percussive beat is haunted by C.A.R.'s voice and a hypnotic robot bassline. Occuring melodies and pads do the rest. Remix time? Oh yes! Spicing and speeding things up a little the Johannes Albert remix arrives with additional chords, gated snare drums and maybe even happiness.

Ghia - Message From The Other Side (Alternative Instrumental Mix)
"Don't Stop" is the third album retrospectively released by Ghia. As the subtitle "Early Works & Artefacts 1984-1987" implies, it features some of their earliest compositions as well as tracks that were recorded during the same period as their "Curaçao Blue" LP.
The album is a fusion of diverse music styles. Listeners will delight in a range of genres, including electro, funk, soul, jazz-funk, synth pop, and even rap/hip-hop, all woven together as a cohesive work that remains mostly instrumental. As a whole, "Don't Stop" represents Ghia's funkiest and most experimental release to date. Notably, the LP features a rap version of Hermann Hesse's controversial German poem "Armer Teufel am Morgen nach dem Maskenball" ("Poor Devil the Morning After the Costume Ball") from 1926, accompanied by a drum machine rhythm and funky guitar. This poem depicts a person who drank too much the night before, telling the story and describing his hangover. The title track "Don't Stop" and the thrilling minimal electro-funk tune "3 A.M. at Moëf Gaga" both evoke old-school electro influences. The latter references the Spanish discotheque Moëf Gaga, located on the Balearic coast, which the dynamic duo of Lutz Boberg and Frank Simon frequented during their 1980s holidays. While the exact music played at 3 A.M. is unknown, listening to Ghia's track will undoubtedly capture the mood of the place.
One of the key tracks of the album is "Message From The Other Side", which could easily be noted as one of the nicest European synth-funk instrumental pieces ever. The track is based on a sick synth bass line, sparkled with DX7 chord hits, funky guitar, and a delightful "marimba" solo in the last third. The solo was actually played on Boberg's keyboard, using a special sound cartridge. This particular track had to be edited and technically revised by Marian Tone and DJ Scientist as the existing demo version of the song could not be used as is. With its stunning groove, this track will surely be a DJ's favorite.
Listening to the complete album, there is more of Boberg's keyboard wizardry: could you believe that the trumpet solo on "Jump In The Water" as well as the short but stunning slap bass solo on "Talk Too Much" were both played by on the DX7? However, this new release, unlike the jazzy "Curaçao Blue", is not about solos or virtuous playing - it clearly shows the duo's direction towards more electronic composition and clear song structures. The versions of "September Garden", "When The Rain is Falling" as well as "Talk Too Much" are actually instrumental mixdowns of vocal songs. And again, we get a blissful take of "Close To You", here a version from 1986. This soulful jazz-funk ballad could already be heard on "Curaçao Blue" while the final vocal version with singer Lisa Ohm can be found on the recently released "This Is" LP. This shows that the Ghia composers, Boberg and Simon, were perfectionists - tracks were reworked again and again, making them better and better.
The album was mastered and restored with great care, and we are pleased to provide you with a perfect example of mid 1980s home-recording pleasures, tinged with a youthful spirit and providing a sound that cannot be recaptured anymore nowadays. Alongside "This Is" and "Curacao Blue" it should be another perfect addition to any 80s groove collection as well as a great pick for DJs that love and play disco, leftfield electro and funk. The LP is limited to 500 copies.
