Continuing to fly the flag for worldwide soulful dance-floor sounds, Jitwam’s globe-hopping label The Jazz Diaries unveil their latest signing, Detroit-based veteran producer Brian 'Javonntte' Garrett. Supplying body moving frequencies since the late nineties, Javonntte began playing piano at age 15 and honed his craft on tour with Aretha Franklin. A collaborator of Amp Fiddler and Luke Solomon, he has previously released on labels such as Eglo Records, Lumberjacks In Hell, Traxx Underground, Defected and Waella’s Choice. His debut on The Jazz Diaries see’s Garrett turn in five hazy, funk-drenched, party-moving jams. From the crunchy midi fanfare of the record’s opener “Reggietune”, through to the blissed-out sweeping synths of “Outerbound”, the EP packs a punch, keeping it’s rock solid, groove-laden sensibilities throughout. Javonntte even throws in a jacked up, Detroit-style reinterpretation of Christopher Cross’s classic track “Ride Link The Wind” (the EP’s first single, due for release April 9th). Trust, this one won’t leave your record bag.

Waella’s Choice return with their fifth release, made in Detroit, remixed in Melbourne and London.
Adding to a growing stable of leading house artists who have already released on the London label, Detroit singer, producer (and dancer) Javonntte presents Drumma EP, traversing the deep and soulful spectrum with two original productions.
The title track has the same instant magnetism as Hanna’s ‘Stranger’, which helped inaugurate Waella’s Choice in 2017. ‘Jazzpianodance’ takes a more broken approach, incorporating Javonntte’s love for jazz fusion. Something that would have felt right at home in the old Co-Op dances at plastic people.
The B-side presents remixes from two young producers with a bright future. Melbourne-raised and now London-based, Crown Ruler member Winters follows up his 2018 debut for Parallel People with a low-slung RnB version. Touching Bass family Romaal Kultan ups the tempo with a weightier sucker-punch of breaks and broken percussion, primed for peak time impact.

Burek family welcomes Detroit house don Javonntte into their circle with four infectious house bangers spread across the whole spectrum of the genre. This record has something for each part of the night, from the easy mood setting vibes to soulful bangers and straight up jacking peak time tracks that will make you sweat.
Tomorrow’, the opening cut, is the best example of the latter and the track’s vocal sample “strictly underground” is well earned. This pure head-bang house track will give you a run for your money. A side is concluded with ‘Journey’, a proper soulful house track which keeps all of its energy in spite of a slightly more subtle approach.
‘No One Like You’ is the first one on the flip and is a prime example of just how much soul and depth can a house banger have and Javonntte excels here both as a producer and a vocalist. Closing track ‘Enter The Disco’ is a slower, disco-sampled jam, perfect for that in-between time in the club when the action’s about to happen.

Vick Lavender returns to Cataleya with a fantastic four tracker named The Messenger EP. It follows his earlier winners on the label - No One's Going To Love You and Chicago Blue Line. The Messenger is a varied EP that features Deep, Jazzy and Soulful tones from the Sophisticado Recordings boss. Expect varied musical styles and instrumentation. The title track kicks the EP off with stylish synths, a cool sax and vocal flourishes. Abstract Union has guitar flexing and a huge organ bottom end, whilst El Negro Bossa is a free flowing jazz effort with a playful feel. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Strut label, we are delighted to unveil a special edition of a landmark album within the realm of African music - Mulatu Astatke"s "Mulatu Of Ethiopia". Recorded in New York in 1972, this pivotal album marks a juncture in Astatke"s musical journey when he adeptly fused various styles to craft the distinctive genre known as Ethio-jazz. For this special edition, the release features the original stereo mix of the full album, as well as a special "mono-mix" of each track retrieved from the original 2" tapes, pressed on opaque white vinyl 2LP.
