Bringing together over 50 of Jamaica's greatest session musicians, whose work spans from the birth of reggae in the late 1960s until today, Roots Architects is the largest gathering of Jamaican musical talent on one all-instrumental album. Never before have so many veterans, who helped create the immortal rhythms that made reggae internationally successful, been assembled to play on new material without vocals. This album aims to celebrate and pay tribute to the unsung heroes of reggae music: the rhythm builders or Roots Architects.

The project is the brainchild of Swiss keyboardist and producer Mathias Liengme. In 2013, he travelled to Kingston, Jamaica, to produce The Inspirators project, an all-star album gathering Leroy ”Horse-mouth” Wallace, Lloyd Parks, Earl ”Chinna” Smith and Sangie Davis, the four of them acting both as musicians and vocalists. This first experience in Kingston studio life paved the way to what would become the Roots Architects project. In February and March 2017 Mathias Liengme travelled for the fifth time to Kingston to record as many of reggae’s greatest living veteran musicians as he could. With the help of a few of these Architects like Robbie Lyn, Fil Callender or Dalton Browne, he managed to gather over 50 session musicians aged 60 to 85 on nine instrumental songs.

Roots Architects are legends back together in Kingston studios doing what they do best: creating in-strumental music all together!

As Fruits Records members were in Jamaica on tour and to record their first projects, they crossed Derajah paths a couple times without getting a chance to work together. But this was enough to set a strong foundation to a relationship that goes way beyond the musical side only. A few years after this meeting, one phone call only was enough to start the process. The rest is pure magic! ‘LOVE IN PORTOFINO’ is a 1958 Italian classic by Fred Buscaglione. As Jamaicans would covered in their own way sixties soul classics from the USA, Cosmic Shuffling gives a beautiful rocksteady rendition of this love song. It starts with a wistful guitar introduction, before the rhythm section and vocals enter on a cuban bolero inspired rhythm. Then the rocksteady groove sits in: bouncy drum and bass, sweet horns arrangement and a delightful pick guitar that will leave no one cold. B side of the record features jazz standard ‘THE SHADOW OF YOUR SMILE’ well known of rocksteady lovers thanks to Tommy McCook’s magical interpretation from 1967. In September 2021, The 18th Parallel unveiled their first collaborative LP with Lone Ark, Showcase vol. 1, which was unanimously acclaimed by international critics. Now they are back together with a second single called ‘MAN WITH A MISSION’. Super heavy rub a dub riddim driven by a powerful bassline and none other than legendary Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace on drums. Horns blowing like the trumpets of Jericho, moog synthesizer lurking like a haunting ghost and thunderstorm spring reverbs create an apocalyptic atmosphere perfectly suited to Big Youth’s poignant vocals. The power of this song comes from the way it was recorded. March 2013, downtown Kingston, 45 Charles Street at night. Gunshot in the neighborhood, police in the streets. Big Youth was outside the studio. He went right through the recording booth, never gave a listen to the riddim, ask the engineer to roll and put his heart and soul into the song: no filter, no second thought, just pure inspiration and message in the lyrics. Calm's superb Before album is the gift that keeps on giving as Hell Yeah serves up a collection of the best remixes from it. Willie Graff, Gallo and Aura Safari all step up on a fresh 12" that lands this summer.

Before arrived on double vinyl in 2022 after a CD-only release in Japan in 2021. Since then it has become a Balearic mainstay and go-to record for lovers of lavish downtempo sounds. Now, remixes of three tracks from it all appear on this one record with Ibirican-American Willie Graff going first. He is a deep house don who has held several key residencies around the world while dropping his sublime sounds on the likes of Leng, Music For Dreams and many more. His remix of 'I Love You' is a gloriously horizontal one with blissful piano keys rippling over the bubbly drums and bass. Yearning reed melodies add an emotional romantic edge to make this a standout in any setting. Then comes Gallo, the Balearic Gabba Sound System member and resident at Berlin Balearic nightspot Buena Onda. His 'Tropical Hinterhof' remix of 'I Love You' is expertly exotic and soothing as mellifluous keys rain down over a groove as smooth as silk. It's a heart-achingly beautiful sound that will make for truly special moments on the dance floor.

Italian collective Aura Safari then offers two different remixes. They are master musicians who have served up a superb double album Islands Dreams here in late 2023 where they showcased their escapist blend of dub, jazz, Afro-cosmic, Balearica and boogie. First up, 'Feel It' (Aura Safari Desert mix) is six minutes of oriental melody over loose drums. There's a playful feel to the dancing piano keys and richness in the percussion that makes this one a sophisticated sound for both early evening warm-ups or moments of late-night reflection. 'Kunpoo' (Aura Safari Daydream mix) has a nineties feel with its gentle breaks, hypnotic string loops, and sustained chords. They break over you in gentle rays of earth and euphoria to ensure utterly blissed-out results.

Red Vinyl Repress coming mid/end of november.

During the early days of Deepchord Records, Detroit's transient and forgotten subculture musically inspired label founders Mike Schommer and Rod Modell in significant ways. The apex of Mike's creative fixation with the city was in 2001 when he recorded the Von Schommer album dc15. To capture the nature of the environment he found so fascinating, Schommer recorded the project at the Crown Motel in Detroit, Michigan. While overlooking the transient life displayed in the motel courtyard, Mike crafted lonely tones from his modular synthesizer and mixed them with his rudimentary DIY electronics. Still, most significantly, he allowed the music to become impregnated by the environment (much like the stains in the permanently soiled carpets of the motel room floor), creating a holistic experience that remains close to his heart almost 25 years later. Initially available as a limited edition preorder cdr to the Hypereal 313 maillist, the album has been remastered and is now available on color vinyl for the first time.

With The Hidden Beauty Of Dutch House '94-'98, Anacalypto Records dug deep into the electronic archives of The Netherlands. Continuing their audio archaeology, their second release breathes new life into a true gem.

Closer is the first and last appearance of Luc Wächerlin aka Luca. Originally released in 1998, the four tracker was one of the final EPs to come out on Orlando Voorn’s ephemeral Slamdunk Records. The twenty-five-year-old press release describes the 12” as a collection of “beautiful, elongated, shimmering, Detroit style trancers for the morning after the night before.” Accurate words. The four works on offer are from the heyday of Techno, where flourishes of Detroit combine with the deeper currents of Sheffield for something energising and immersive. From the liquid synthwork and floating choral lines of the title piece, the listener is bathed in throbbing radiance and warmth. Echoes of “the night before” comes through in “Indian Summer.” A steady kick is the bedrock from which spirals of piano flow, fluid key changes providing a groove that roots this track firmly to the floor. A continuation of the extensive research project initiated last year between Sound Metaphors, Transmigration and surviving eye-witness/historian Ray Castle. An in depth analysis of the dancefloor landscape that developed in Goa during the 80s' and early 90's well before "Trance" became the unfortunate dirty word it is today. Before "trance" was even a genre, Goa was brewing a scene with unparalleled aesthetics, with a constant influx of dedicated collectors and DJs coming and going to this tropical underground dancefloor haven, filtering through vast amounts of emerging electronic music of the times and distilling only the finest of "Special Goa Music". Having put himself on the map with releases on Soukah's Blacksoil Records, Bristol's Transient Audio as well as on Australian imprint Modern Hypnosis, it's now time for the album release, we've all been waiting for. No computer involved as impeccable arrangements and analogue reverberations unfold. Live and direct in the original Dub mixing fashion, the Augsburg-based artist uniquely transports the sonic characteristics of Rhythm & Sound into the
present time.

Subtle vinyl crackles gently introducing meditative beats, 'Run Dub' sets the pace. Keen listeners find themselves embedded in lively echoes and reverbs, left to bask in smooth, sonic contemplation. Engineered to soothe the soul, timeless foundation sound. Intensified groove meets low-frequency pressure in 'Amir Dub' among haunting melodica fragments. '(Yes!) Badness' unsheathes its off-kilter swing, vocal and foley samples musing in the distance - further showcasing Another Channel's technical prowess. Heavy chord stabs and delicate overdrive counterpoint the immense scope of conjured space in 'Ael Na Dub', concluding a beautiful A-Side.

Lush chords lure us to the flip-side - 'Solid' kicks off with a staccato bass-line in the midst of lavish white noise surges and minimal drums. Rooted in endless feedback trails, steadily kept in check. Previously teased, the mighty 'Ethiopian Dub' steps through in full glory, carried by militant drum motion and forceful low-end. On a more spacious excursion, 'Uranus' takes a brightly lit stroll through the analogue Dub universe, led on by Another Channel's signature groove propulsion. Pointing back towards A-Side, prolific Dub proponent Babe Roots presents his musical qualities in a monumental remix of 'Run'.

Barcelona’s Tunik follows up on last year’s A New Dawn with a distinct turn to the dark side as he pays tribute to the iconic, vampiric creature of the night, Nosferatu.

The horror theme on the title track is a natural fit with the Argentinian artist’s schlocky strain of EBM-styled electro-techno, but the music is no joke. Boxy drum machine jack and a suite of darkly seductive synth lines strike the perfect note between vintage flair and modernist impact, and the macabre mood lingers over the rest of this trip through gothic club music.

Whether it’s the Twilight Zone creep around the edges of ‘Slave’, acid blood raining down on ‘W72’ or the undead getting busy with the grungy bass and dry snare hits on ‘Sorrow’, Tunik has got exactly what you need to send a shiver down the dance floor’s spine and raise the temperature in the room, all in the same heartbeat.
