The debut release on brand new label Shadow Pressings hits the ground running with 4 heavyweight club tracks that doff the cap to the halcyon days of Chicago house music. Opening track The Messiah takes the maestro Lil Louis blueprint with sampled sax licks and punchy synth stabs accompanying the raw, minimal house groove. It Started In Chicago heads in a more jacking direction with a snaking bassline, muscular drum groove, cut up vocal and sax hits.
Flipping over we have How Does It Feel which brings a touch of late night deepness with a rolling FM bassline and familiar vocal hook. Classic string stabs join the party in the breakdown adding the icing on the cake and making for a track guaranteed to create a special moment on the dance floor. Shadow Pressings hits release number 3 with a fully stacked EP from Detroit luminary Mike Agent X Clark. Founding father of the Beatdown sound, Mike’s productions can be found on labels such as Third Ear, Planet E and Shockwave Records as well as being a member of the Underground Resistance crew.
For his Shadow Pressings debut Mike has conjured up some classic house tracks with his trademark Detroit touch. Lead track In The House Club features the spoken word of fellow Detroit native Dr. Tinglefingers who lays down his call to the dance floor making for a solid slice of raw, minimal, classic house music. Jimpster gets busy on the remix working up a similar mood to that of his evergreen 2005 remix for Delano Smith’s Message For The DJ. Keeping all the elements in place, Jimpster thickens up the stabs with extra Rhodes and adds some choice touches to keep the energy bubbling nicely.
Get Up is just the kind of stripped back, bass-heavy drum tool that Ron Hardy might have worked the dancers into a frenzy with at the Muzic Box. Closing out the release we have Fresh Air which keeps things deep and minimal for a proper heads-down, no nonsense basement jam with that authentic Agent X flair. More

After MOY's 'Orbital Resonance' EP started the label in spectacular fashion, the second release on Damo B's EMOTEC comes from Ritual Poison co-founder BufoBufo. Following a run of releases on Furthur Electronix, Tone Dropout, Partout and Kouncil Cuts, BufoBufo's 'Perceptual Channels' EP merges acid, electro, breakbeats and the emotive melodies that have become a signature of his music. 'In The Reeds' sets burbling 303s and sci-fi synths against shredded drum loops; 'Silver Disk' nods to a love of classic hip-hop and hardcore, with a monstrous electro bassline; 'Scrying Mirror' has lush house chords, addictive bass and dark interludes; and 'Remote Viewing' is a more reflective downtempo piece with a blissed-out top line and influences from ambient and IDM.

A veteran producer (Who prefers to separate this incarnation
from past works) working within many disciplines in sound, Silent
Cubes demonstrates a particular skill in atmospherics and mood
in their productions, creating three tracks of original UGK driven
sound that speak in a dialect as familiar to the progeny and
brethren of Clubroot, Sorrow, and Congi as that of Chez Damier,
Mr Fingers, and Ron Trent. An exercise in deepness, Draped in
the framework and immediacy of Garage.
Showing how evocatively these elements can be transformed is
MOY, himself straddling a line between classic IDM, Old Skool,
and Acid, and with releases on Analogical Force, Vinyl Fanatiks
(AmenTec) and a slew of others. MOY comes forward with a
hybridized remix of “The Stream”, which really is in a class of its
own and closes out side B.

Argentinian producers Oscean return to Tresor with Chronium Radiance, their longest release so far, in which the duo continue the evolution of their sound, coalescing the elemental ideas explored in their first two releases and yielding sublime results.
This landmark release will no doubt be seen as the point at which Oscean crystalised a trademark sound, balancing complex percussive rhythms with pulsing and cadenced music in which a universe of often oxymoronic ideas can be found, melded together with a deft touch to create a blissful sonic whole.
There is a sense of space and airiness to side A of the record as synth parts drift across the more solid-feeling landscape of the basslines and percussion: Opening track ChronoRebel is a propulsive trance induction that brings forth cinematic images of billowing clouds. This nebulous quality is continued on Neon Harmonies where the highly syncopated drum track weaves through a haze of colourful synths that while lower tempo than the previous track somehow has an energy of a faster piece.
The flip side has a denser, darker quality to it beginning with Blaster Imploder, a deep and funky track that continues the convention-defying theme by being powerful and frenetic whilst also having a soft and exultant sheen. This is followed by Echoes of Chaos which closes out the 12” with a dynamic beat and spacious, sweeping synths that feel as though we are passing through the atmosphere heading towards some distant nebula.
Alongside the tracks on the vinyl release, three digital tracks expand on the universe Oscean have built with a truly ecstatic love theme, a retelling of Neon Harmonies that unveils a river of dub, and a low tempo, drifting yet no-less affecting piece acting as the closing titles to our voyage to this Osceanic world. The word “resistance” is deeply embedded in the ethos of techno. For her debut release on the Tresor Records, the British artist and Tresor resident, IMOGEN, explores the concept of resilience; a related and equally vital concept.Taking its name from a theological term meaning a fundamental change of mind or spiritual conversion, Metanoia is fuelled by IMOGEN’s processing of what she describes as one of the most challenging years of her life.Any struggle against injustice or misfortune takes time and effort which requires finding a fortitude within, not only to surpass the hardship itself but to not lose ourselves to despair or bitterness in the process.IMOGEN’s journey is summed up in the lead track, The Way She Moves-resilience is, after all, a persistence to continue, to move forward. The struggle against hardship is laid out in track titles like Tired Bonesand Growing in the Darkbefore a sense of catharsis is reached in Breathe Againand Melancholy Flower. The word “resistance” is deeply embedded in the ethos of techno. For her debut release on the Tresor Records, the British artist and Tresor resident, IMOGEN, explores the concept of resilience; a related and equally vital concept.Taking its name from a theological term meaning a fundamental change of mind or spiritual conversion, Metanoia is fuelled by IMOGEN’s processing of what she describes as one of the most challenging years of her life.Any struggle against injustice or misfortune takes time and effort which requires finding a fortitude within, not only to surpass the hardship itself but to not lose ourselves to despair or bitterness in the process.IMOGEN’s journey is summed up in the lead track, The Way She Moves-resilience is, after all, a persistence to continue, to move forward. Dino Lenny’s latest two singles for Belgian titan R&S Records get coupled together for a vinyl release. ‘Lose Control’ and ‘Washington Street’ are both served up with alternate mixes. The London based Italian producer fired out another irresistible club heater on the ‘Lose Control’ single, racking up Top Ten chart positions across the dance DSPs. On the Tea With Quincy Mix, legendary American musician Jerry Hey in drafted in to add his unmistakable horn playing to this version of ‘Lose Control. Hey is a highly seasoned orchestrator and session musician, playing on hundreds of classic recordings including Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, ‘Rock With You’ and ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’, and also playing with Earth, Wind & Fire, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, George Benson and numerous others, including Quincy Jones, whom the mix title doffs its cap to. A special ‘4am Mix’ of ‘Washington Street’ from Dino Lenny himself sits on the flip side, a propelling and heavyweight dancefloor cut laced with seductive saxophone and climaxing with sparkling melodic electronics.
