The concept of the album is the afterlife with words from Nikola Tesla, Slavoj Zizek, Jim Morrison, JF Kennedy, Charles De Gaulle, WH Auden, Azar Nafisi and Eleanor Roosevelt woven together to tell the story of ‘The Great Beyond’ and what may lie ahead for us all. He’s been a prolific producer for over 20 years now with a discography that runs deep with more than 100 Vinyl EP releases and 8 studio albums, but we feel he’s reached the pinnacle with this concept album. The Croatian production powerhouse and disco boogie impresario steps up to International Feel, and takes a left turn into deep space with a new six track LP Pulsar Diaries.
Ilija’s discography stretches back to 2003, and over those 20 years he’s packed it full with albums, versions, remixes and singles. His releases are often perfectly-penned love letters to ‘80s boogie, electro and disco, and like postcards from an old flame, they’ve landed in an array of record label catalogs, from Bear Funk, Rong, and Electric Minds, to Is It Balearic? as well as his own Red Music and Imogen Recordings. He’s long-been an active voice on the underground club scene, and if you’ve been out dancing in Zagreb, Berlin or even Tisno beach, chances are you’ve gotten down to one of his beautifully blended sets of cosmic-tinged electro funk and disco dubs.
On Pulsar Diaries, Ilija delivers a panoramic collection of spaced-out synths and drum machine grooves, dedicated to the planet and our place in the universe. The A side opens up with the blissful, weightless pads of the title track, before it breaks out into filtered stabs over a minimal b-boy bounce. Delphic Expanse ebbs and flows like a lunar eclipse, sounding like a futuristic version of Key-Matic’s Breaking In Space, all uprock rhythms and syrupy synth horns as it spins off beyond the asteroid belt. Side A closes out with Blackburn Tales, a suspenseful and spacious electro rhythm packed with strings and 303 squelch, which you might call anti-gravity acid, if you were so inclined.
Side B picks up the tempo with Fourth Amendment, perfect for the space station discotheque with its sweeping bass filters and ice-cold synth melodies hovering in orbit. Farewell Theme takes an introspective moment, slowing the pace to a cosmic 90 bpm and inviting a certain cinematic feel to proceedings. This feeling applies not just to the vivid landscapes we travel through, but also wider thoughts about humankind: as we pause for a breath and look around, we find ourselves in Ilija’s space, considering human motivations, like the pursuit of happiness, or the eternal struggle with the self.
Every journey begins with a goodbye, and so the last track of the album feels like the arrival at a new destination: Ursa Major is ablaze with cascading drum fills, bubble-wrapped bass riffs and bright synth chords that sparkle like city lights underneath a re-orbiting satellite.
With Pulsar Diaries, Ilija Rudman has created a rare artifact: an album that straddles several worlds at once. Ilija Rudman is quite a unique character. A fact reinforced by listening to some of the records from his vast catalogue, taking a walk through his next level studio or simply talking to him. Preferably, all three at once, as it is often the case. Authenticity is the word that comes to mind when describing the work of this leading Croatian artist or while listening to the material we are proud to put out on 12th Burek release. The record features three cuts. “Higher Ground” is Rudman’s solo effort while the two on the flip are coproduced by Boyd H. Jarvis, an American producer credited to numerous 12” on classic labels such as Trax Records, King Street Sounds, Movin’ Records and Dance Tracks (to mention a selected few). Although releases made in a similar fashion tend to sound somewhat unfocused, the result here is exactly the opposite. What we have here is 20 minutes of some of the slickest house music you’ll find, sounding so coherent that dissecting it track by track seems pointless. This is a 12” that will feel equally at home in a club or blasting through the speakers of your convertible while driving on the California
coast in the summer.

Ilija Rudman has a passion for disco, pure analogue disco at that with buckets of soul to boot. For over 10 years he's been producing bonafide dance music which has seen him team up with the likes of Mark E, Chaz Jankel, Steve Kotey, The Revenge and Greg Wilson amongst others with releases coming via Rong Music, Under the Shade, Bear Funk and Tirk labels. Here we see Ilija bring a 3 tracker to the table for the KAT imprint which brings somewhat of a change in direction for them as these are not re-edits or reworks but original tracks. ‘Just Remember' is a sultry Summer time Disco house melter which oozes all that's good about dance music... Fender rhodes, laid back guitar licks, strings and a groove that glides along effortlessly throughout but it's the ever so subtle dreamy soulful feel to this track that makes it really shine through. On the flip both tracks take on a slightly more uptempo House feel but the analogue sound continues... ‘Never Forget' really is all about the hooks...staccato guitar licks and a rhythm section that's more solid than your average breeze block. And 'Once and 4 all' ending things on a high with a breathy pad lead track that delivers on all fronts. Iliya's studio has taken 3 years to build and consists of 15 years of collecting studio gear all based around the MCI 542 D Series console from 1981. Fully restored, this is the hub to the whole operation which also has EMT compressors and limiters, 25+ synths including Moog, Prophet and Oberheim and a huge rack of drum machines and samplers. Surprisingly, it's been some four years since Croat producer Ilija Rudman dropped his much-played debut album, The Reveal, on Bear Funk. Happily, True Colours - his first outing on Is It Balearic - sees him in fine form, joining the dots between kaleidoscopic synth-funk, rubbery dub-disco, spaced-out boogie and glassy-eyed downtempo jams. Rudman is an expert at capturing the sounds of bygone eras, usually through the use of vintage equipment, while delivering tracks that sound thoroughly fresh and original. It's this that makes True Colours such a fantastic set. Highlights are plentiful, from the close dance smoothness of "Bad Passion" and boogie dub vibes of "All The Time" (check the delay-laden hits and sweeping violins) to the jaunty electro-goes-Balearic brilliance of "Wild Guess".

Croatian's finest purveyor of disco and boogie returns with a delish four track EP on Yam Who's ISM imprint. The four tracks have all the delicious trappings of Rudman; dramatic strings, ample helpings of cowbell and vintage synth stabs. The A-Side consists of the sleazy squelch of "Crazy With You" in both original and remixed by Yam Who form, with the latter, more uptempo version just shading it. The flipside consists of the sultry boogie bap of "Let This Dream Be Real", with the original bringing to mind a glacially paced version of Rockers Revenge classic "Walking on Sunshine", while the Disco Dirtbox tweak bumps and grinds in all the right places - totally primed for club play!

"When not overseeing A&R and label operations for Isle Of Jura, label boss Kevin Griffiths makes time for music creation in his garden studio in Moana, a sleepy suburb of Adelaide in South Australia. It’s an idyllic location surrounded by palm trees and tropical birdlife and an inspiring spot to fire up the machines, typically with the studio door left wide open to soak up the soundtrack provided by mother nature. The LP was recorded in the midst of the pandemic with no gig distractions and the sessions were heavily influenced by this backdrop of tropical birdsong, field recordings of which made it into most of the tracks. The album traverses Deep house, Nu-disco, Balearica and Ambient along with some leftfield samples and a sprinkling of Dub throughout. "

180g Vinyl. Earthtones is the musical identity of Serge Bandura, an electronic artist, former jazz musician, meditation teacher and ritualist based in LA. Kevin Nathaniel channels sound as a universal healing force through traditional African instruments and is a former student of legendary master musicians such as Ephat Mujuru and Chief Bey K. Sending files back and forth during the pandemic, the two artists deepened a musical friendship and began a dialog between the Mbira Nyunga Nyunga, the Kalimba and analog synthesizers. Their music is offered in the spirit of peace + healing for all. ‘Of The Earth’ (Full Meditation) is 21 minutes long and the B side offers 25 minutes of music.

With the 12" vinyl reissue of Fascination made for Giancarlo Meo, the legendary producer of Easy Going, Vivien Vee, Capricorn, Amin-Peck, Steel Mind, Claudio Simonetti (aka Kasso) and many other artists, Best Record offers yet another excellent service for those who perhaps don't know they need it. Claudio Casalini 40 years ago was not only a record producer, but above all one of the most important DJ-clubs in Italy. He remembers well the cheering jet set audience in the elegant Roman lounges, with the dance floor packed with people vibrating to that fusion of disco, soul and funk sounds that characterized many Italo-Disco songs of those early Eighties. The three versions of "Out to Get You" contain all those sounds, but it is above all the version re-edited by the imaginative and passionate DJ Massimo Berardi that brings an important portion of musical restoration making it current, and therefore exciting and modern, absolutely suitable for dancing it again anywhere in the world.

Yore returns with the first appearance on the label this year with the Edinburgh-based outfit 2DeepSoul, which counts Brad Peterson and Rai Scott as it’s members. You can find other music by 2DeepSoul on AMR, Minuendo, and Deep Explorer. The two bring a wealth of experience to the project: Peterson has been DJing and producing music since the early 90s. Since 2011 he has appeared on labels such as MacIntosh Music, Moods and Grooves, and more recently working with other labels such as Contrast Wax, 7th Sign, Hotmix and Monochromatic, as well as their own Inner Shift Music imprint. His musical influences include deep house, Detroit techno, UK techno / electronic music, as well as 60s – 70s jazz. Like Peterson, Scott established herself as a DJ before issuing her first release (under the Serendipity name) on Berlin’s Mixomat Recordings in 2008 and followed it up with music more recently on Ornate, Batti Batti, and their own Inner Shift Music imprint as well. She shares with Peterson a love for UK electronic music, Detroit techno as well as early Chicago and UK house. The opening cut Intrinsic‚ spotlights everything that makes 2DeepSoul’s sound so appealing – synth treatments that lend the music a dreamily atmospheric quality, and melodies that warble like some lazer beam in from a distant galaxy. Best of all, the cut draws together elements from a number of genres but does so in a way that feels seamless. A little more straightforward by comparison are Flow Theory, which derives its impetus from a chugging house groove and a organ solo; and Power, which brings the duo’s dreamier side to the forefront in the tune’s enveloping production and warm deep house vibe. All tracks are relatively straightforward, which makes them both dj-friendly and equally satisfying on listening grounds.

Tony Ollivierra's issued a generous number of singles and EPs under the Ibex moniker on Rushhour, Planet E, Yore, and his own Ibex Music, and now follows up his 2010 Yore release, Meltdown, with Absolution, though this time under his birth name. No matter: Ollivierra's music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and Absolution is no exception. The infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the track's multi-layered splendour. A jazzier dimension rises to the surface of "Quick Release" when the tune's churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads. "Phase Down" opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that Ollivierra's naturally funky side can't help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere. Syncopated rhythms and electric pianos emerge one final time during the wide-screen "Find My Way" in such a way that a balance is struck between synth-heavy techno and jazz fusion.
Absolution is an unfussy clubcentric release that finds Ollivierra getting down to business with four body-moving cuts that liberally draw on house, jazz, and even Latin traditions.

The TK Disco music empire has blessed our ears and minds with an endless stream of music since it's late 1960's inception. Countless soul and funk sides were produced, cut and released by label founder Henry Stone and his associates, in turn changing the face of contemporary black music in the USA and across the world forever. It is true that the TK story originated on America's 'Space Coast', the modern frontier of lunar exploration and galactic travel, the home of NASA and countless missions beyond the stars nestled on the East Coast of the United States.
'Moon Ride' - The compilation you hold in your hands, is merely one strand of the incredible music that was beamed out of Hialeah, FL over the decades. The focus on this collection is the idea of the 'cosmic' from the Disco era. These are records that emit a spacey vibe, either from their lyrical content or equally from their sonic qualities, imbibing synths and electronics to create otherworldly grooves. These records were big hits on underground music scenes such as Daniele Baldelli's cosmic movement in the 70's and 80's in Lake Garda, they were vehicles of escapism and hedonism on the discerning dancefloors of NYC in the hands of progressive DJs like David Mancuso and Nicky Siano and they were also essential building blocks in the creation of House and Techno music in the Midwestern cities of Chicago and Detroit, inspiring legendary artists such as Mr Fingers and Jeff Mills and countless others. Rework's classic 2002 cut 'You're So Just Just' gets fresh remixes from Troxler X Crosson and Cinthie alongside an updated version from the act themselves.
Underground mainstays Rework released this standout track on the legendary Playhouse label and it is one that established them as pioneers right from the off. It was followed by several vital albums and releases on the same label, as well as the likes of Visionquest and exlove records.
Here, they revisit their original, which features vocals from Laetitia, and update its cold minimal grooves with fresh energy. The bass rolls deep, and the drums are snappy and upright as the edgy chords keep things full of suspense. Laetitia's soulful stylings are cut up and smeared through the mix to make for a brilliantly driving and emotive track.
Visionquest co-founders and long-time techno talents Seth Troxler and Ryan Crosson also pair off for a remix. Their version is full of trippy sound designs and wiggling hooks. It's a tightly interwoven minimal groove with an afterparty feel, and the original vocals bring their own seductive vibe.
The second remix comes from much-loved Berlin native Cinthie, who runs the Elevate store and 803 Crystal Grooves label. She recently served up a fantastic mix for the legendary DJ Kicks series and brings her timeless sound to this remix. It is raw, dusty and perfect for sweaty basements, as its hypnotic loops and punchy kick patterns are draped in old-school chord vamps.
This is a great update to a dance music classic from a fine selection of scene favourites.
