The unassuming maestro of techno music Donato Dozzy returns to Tresor Records on its 30th year with a new EP entitled 124. The record follows a majestic appearance on the Tresor 30 anniversary compilation and his expert devotion to the Roland TB-303, Filo Loves The Acid. True to form, 124 meddles sharp rhythmic minimalism and diverse textures, each track pushing at the epiphanic threshold as the boss of Spazio Disponibile allows his deeply intuitive productions to take effect.
"messy kafka world" introduces a frenetic and concentrated atmosphere of rhythmic forces, hallucinatory and euphoric in effect. Its dizzying staccato loops are given structure by strengthening beats and bleak synthetic pillars. "synthi chase" emits radical powers, as buzzing rhythms and monotone synths make raw gestures towards altered states. It shares a kindred spirit with "cassiopeia 36", seen in particular through its determined
and primitive pulses, nested within wobbling wood percussion and nervous synth repetitions. "wooden dolls don’t cry" stamps a warm groove, its tempered percussion taking centre stage as shimmering melodic loops threaten spiralling feedback. These dark, hypnotic tracks are flawlessly programmed to cast mesmeric momentums onto club floors and into loosened limbs.

"I and Donato always send each others the tracks we make and exchange feedbacks on what we do, but when He sent me this music for the first time for me it's been love at first listen in a way i had never experienced before with his music. i wasn't even thinking i would be the one to release it back then...i just totally fell in love with these tracks when i heard them and was overly excited to the idea of playing them out, that's it. The funny thing is that till now i have been the only one on this planet to play them, Donato himself hasn't played out any and i was reporting to him on a regular basis and almost in real time the reactions of the people on the dancefloor when i would drop Cleo as last track on my sets and on how people would fall in a state of total ecstasy (not the drug, but the state of mind) while listening and dancing to it...i would tell him: "Donato...i don't think you quite realise what you have done...this stuff is just something else, it's beyond...the people are just melting when i play it!". So these tracks have grown in me in a very personal and deep way, and despite the fact that they are of course made 100% by Donato i almost developed a sense of emotional ownership towards this music, not in a way that i claimed the right to release them...(i have actually never asked him to give them to me) but in a way that i was feeling these tracks so much, that my love for them almost became an extension of the tracks themselves...and i think at some stage he felt this himself and one day this summer after that, again, for maybe the 20th time, i told him how amazing it was when i played them in my last set at the time he just told me "I think it is right that you release them, Marco. they are for you, they belong to you"...so as far as i'm concerned these will always be forever my very own Dozzy tracks, and it's a real honor and and a landmark for me and for my label to be able to release this record." In April of this year, Donato Dozzy took a set of mouth harps back to his parent's house in the Italian countryside and set about exploring the possibilities of that most basic of instruments. The mouth harp had been calling to Dozzy ever since childhood, when he had discovered the "marranzano" on a holiday in Sicily with this parents at the tail end of the 1970s. Almost four decades later, Dozzy had begun to see in this peculiar, ancient sound, the roots of the music he'd been making and playing in clubs all these years. It was time to find out how far he could trace it all back.
The Loud Silence is the result of those explorations, an accompanied deep-dive into childhood memory, social history and the roots of psychedelia. Recorded indoors and outdoors, half-way up mountains and on the edge of the Mediterranean sea, the record is meditative but also powerful. Dozzy has distilled his ideas into an incredibly intimate sound, one that invites an inverted sort of exploration, pushing you further and further into your own head. Each track maintains an inviolable central pulse, while delicate, fluttering sounds hint at vast spaces that might open up at any minute - they're just waiting for you to connect with them. Field recordings hover below

"Cassandra" is a super deep and hypnotic cut that opens with a thumping kick and silky-smooth pads, with the techno innovator teasing out delayed vocal-like synth phrases that lock the listener in before a huge sub-bassline lands. Few artists have crafted a catalog as rich and deep as Donato Dozzy has done in minimal techno’s more atmospheric realm. The new imprint for Stroboscopic Artefacts: Terzo Giorno - or Third Day - by Italian producer Donato Dozzy. It is an EP of great textural dexterity, traversing the moving and the misanthropic. First track 'Il Canto Della Maga' presages the onset of Part II's kick drum with mordant wind chimes, tinkling outside a house of pain and disturbance. The chimes reverberate around impressions of capacious depth - a distant factory whirring, lorries creeping in a tunnel - and that depth is incessantly, resolutely emphatic. And on that goes to '...Part II', an immediate thrust into the deepest corners of techno. You can hear the sweat on the walls, the rumble in the speakers, the almost jubilant high-end synth rubbing against your skin. Vocals and/or metallic manipulation pour in half-way in. And then, as if summoned by the chimes outside the house, cease slowly. The third eponymous track is another made for the floor, and has a reasonably friendly upper line. Do not be fooled, however: a snarling squelch gives way to a scarily saccharine synth, incising with a jab two times a bar. A funkier beat slowly emerges from a distinctly off-beat one, bringing the piece to a natural, if not nice, conclusion. The final track, 'Sotto Ma Sotto', comes in like a train with an alarm going off. Its machine-like run, jumpy in tone and beat, is as delicate as its kick is deep. The alarm, meanwhile, fails to err: it is determined and charming, a call for heavenly climes and ecstatic moods. This is a wonderful track, built on insistence and executed with precision. The chimes having run out of puff, this is a faultlessly incessant record. It is tempo up, both feet to the floor.

In hindsight, the pairing of Chris Madak and Donato Dozzy was inevitable from the moment when the two connected on Mount Naeba, Japan at the storied party Labyrinth last fall. Both artists have worked to craft singular visions unlike anything else happening in electronic music today, yet despite each producer's unmistakable indivuality there is a deeper reservoir of shared sensibility between them which makes "Donato Dozzy Plays Bee Mask" feel like a logical and necessary event. 2012 saw the release of Madak's monumental "When We Were Eating Unripe Pears" album along with the astounding "Vaporware" 12" for Room 40, the title track of which opened Bee Mask's Labyrinth performance to memorable effect. Dozzy had an equally massive year thanks the release of the acclaimed "Voices From the Lake" album with Neel, which set the bar for intricate, subtle, and forward-thinking contemporary techno at a new high. Both artists have pushed the respective boundaries of their work to arrive at the point of this crucial and welcome overlap: a double album of material from the "Vaporware" sessions, re-imagined as only Dozzy could do it. Initially commissioned for a single remix, Dozzy found so much possibility in the source material that he turned in over an hour of material, making a standalone release the only reasonable course of action. The results are absolutely divine, a suite of seven pieces of time-stopping bliss in which the structure and melodies of "Vaporware" glitter through the prism of Dozzy's singular production style. The meeting of these powerful minds provides evidence of an unparalleled organic chemistry. When listening to these works we hear the worlds of Bee Mask and Donato Dozzy bleed into one another, creating a new sonic entity with a life of its own - one which with any luck will not end at this release.

Voices From the Lake (consisting of Donato Dozzy and Neel) mark the 10th anniversary of their influential self-titled album with a fully remastered reissue on Spazio Disponibile. It arrives in full on vinyl for the first time, as well as on digital formats, first quarter of 2023 as the pair continues to play select live shows around the world. The release will see the light of day as a 4-set vinyl LP release, including download. Italians Dozzy and Neel have been friends united by a shared vision of music since their teenage years. They are immaculate sculptors of sound who fuse evocative ambient and leftfield techno into multi-layered soundscapes. For many years they worked as established solo artists but came together in 2011 to craft what is now regarded as one of techno's most pure and absorbing listening experiences. It's often said that the best music comes about as a happy accident, and that is certainly true of Voices From the Lake. The career-defining album first arose in the thoughts of Dozzy and Neel when the latter was preparing a mix for the former's wedding and named it Voices From The Lake. It was a pertinent title that stuck in the mind: both grew up by waters around the coast of Italy, and in their early days the pair even held private parties on the shores of a lake. Fittingly, Japan's celebrated Labyrinth festival at that time was also held by a river and a lake in the middle of a forest on a serene mountainside. It was that exact setting the pair envisaged when making music to play live on stage. During preparations, they "accidentally" wrote an entire album. It has only ever been performed live a few times - once at Japan's Labyrinth festival in 2011, at London's Barbican, Barcelona's Mira Festival, Paris' Marathon Festival and once during 2022's Amsterdam Dance Event. Those shows saw the pair using banks of analogue and digital equipment to improvise in the moment and essentially remix the album live on stage. That spontaneity is captured in the original Voices From the Lake recordings and on later LPs such as Live at Maxxi in 2015, and the most recent EP Quarto Freddo from 2020. But the debut album remains a standout achievement. A decade on, it's quiet intensity, musical storytelling and slowly unfolding tension remain in a class of one. Each sound is meticulously designed and placed, and the spaces left behind are just as important in conveying such a captivating mood and emotion. Rather than traditional kick drums, hi-hats or snares, this is music crafted from layers of real-world sound - dripping water, chirping birds, rustling leaves or a distant breeze - and it's that which defines the album's organic allure. From deeply contemplative to cautiously optimistic, pastoral organic scenes to more underwater worlds, Voices From the Lake is a cohesive collection of tracks that add up to one inseparable whole.

To prepare for "That Who Remembers", Dorisburg (aka Alexander Berg) and Sebastian Mullaert set up their equipment in Malmo's empty Inkonst venue, spending several days immersed in its atmosphere, using the lights, smoke machine, and Soundsystem to create an authentic club environment where they could freely improvise. The result is a suite of free-flowing sounds that draws on both artists' backgrounds in reduced techno and ambient music, sailing thoughtfully through near-future landscapes and punctuating them with shimmering, kosmische textures, decaying sonic memories, and fragile rhythms. Not dance music exactly, it's music that instead considers the spirit of an empty dancefloor, wondering which elements might remain when feet have left the building entirely. It's hardly surprising that the record is coming via Donato Dozzy and Neel's adventurous Spazio Disponibile imprint. "We recorded at full club volume with massive bass, but our references had gradually shifted to the point where just adding a soft kick drum would feel like peak-time techno. So even though the final recordings are quite soft and ambient, the energy we felt during the recording was often quite intense."

AtomTM, aka Uwe Schmidt, creates a dense, detailed eerie rhythm flow, while Grand River slowly guides an emotionally-charged arpeggio to a crescendo. Marco Shuttle is very much part of the Spazio Disponibile label family: he's put out his Systhema album and various EPs with Donato Dozzy and Neel in the last couple of years, and now the Eerie boss serves up more of his immersive techno excellence. He starts off in slow motion, with the roomy ambiance and slightly spooky dub of 'Ritmo Elegante.' Of course it's a track carefully filled with little sonic details that make it a very real place to be. 'Arpex' then switches things up with a super urgent, super supple acidic techno rhythm thats overlaid with a widescreen arp that sapiens space and time, and 'Stairway To The Milky Way' is a half time stepper though some trippy sci-fi jungle before 'Qatarsi' rides on a floating groove as sound effects pan all around you and traps you in a state of trance. These are expressive, hard to define and excellent electronics once again from Marco Shuttle.

Next up on Donato Dozzy and Neel's Spazio Disponibile label is close friend and Italian producer Marco Shuttle. The Eerie label-boss is a regular on the label having put out his Systema album here last year, as well as his Flauto Synthetico EP in 2016. His always meticulously crafted sound is rooted in dark, cavernous techno. He finds plenty of new ground in each new release, though, with some tracks being haunting ambient works and others more propulsive rhythms. This new EP features just that across four typically inventive and absorbing tracks that are as much for your head as they are for your heel.

A year after their debut on the label, Crossing Avenue return with five more sublime techno tracks on Spazio Disponibile. That first EP remains the only outing for the pair of Andrea La Bombarda and Andrea Montrone, and this new one is another experimental trip into mind melting grooves. Opener 'Laguna' is a loopy, liquid track of fluttering drums and rubbery kicks that never lets up. 'Ortica' is more gloopy and wonky, with firmer kicks and aqueous sounds dripping off the groove, while 'Lyra' is beautifully delicate and intricate, with underwater life forms drifting by as gentle xylophones sounds dance around. The masterful minimalism continues on the dark, undulating and alien 'Vilipendio,' and things round out with the paranoid voices and panning synths of 'Mekong', an unsettling track that has you looking over your shoulder.

off-shoot release of that album, one completely reimagined by the man, the myth: Ricardo Villalobos.
Much has been written and talked about when it comes to producer/DJ Ricardo Villalobos over the years.
The mercurial Chilean-German artist has consistently redefined the boundaries of techno and electronica
over the past 30-years as a producer, whilst also traversing the world and expanding minds as a DJ who can
equally delight as he does challenge.Like a great jazz drummer (he was a percussionist before discovering mixing records), Villalobos has not so
much as broken “the rules” of structure as just created his own unique approach. One that is often surprising,
ever open-minded, and clearly lead by whatever happens to be inspiring him at any given moment. Watching
him work or hearing him play music always feels live and free. He’s an artist. And that is exactly how this
(perhaps unlikely) collaborative album has come to light – but then this is Ricardo, so maybe we should all
know by now that anything is possible.
Villalobos explains, “In my scientific search for some electroacoustic musical landscapes, the offer of
remixing ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’ was just perfect for me… In general, the song writing is so very good and
particular, with all the instruments played into a sequencer, so it was very inspiring to strip down these pop
songs into my dubby extensions, taking only the drums, bass, and vocals of the song.” Expanding further,
“After delivering the first remix, Mo and myself came up with the idea of reimagining the whole album in a new
way, mixed simple with other ears and my inspirations, with a new and different point of view of what
instruments are important to hold the song to bare itself.”
It says a lot, and somehow captures the essence of Ricardo’s approach to music (and life), that one remix
soon evolved into a whole plethora of reimagined works, driven by a creative slipstream and a clear
connection to the songs created by A Mountain of One.
Mo Morris provides more insight into his own connection with Villalobos, “I lived in Berlin back in 2002-04 and
used to religiously go to dance to Rici at the after (after) hours parties: little, tiny events. And he just used to
blow my mind, I hadn’t heard anything like it before (or since). Ultra-modern and forward thinking.”
Mo continues, “A good friend connected to Ibiza happenings introduced me to Ricardo as it transpired that he
was a fan of our early material, so I sent him some demo’s when we were in the studio creating ‘Stars Planets
Dust Me’ and he loved ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’. The relationship and collaboration grew from there really, and
I hope that this release is still at the start of what we can all create together.”
Focussing in on the album at hand – ‘Ricardo Villalobos reimagines: Stars Planets Dust Me’ – we are treated to
a concept listen that guides us from dreamy daytime Balearic pop – staying very true to the original songs – all
the way through to completely original deep dubby techno excursions. And to Villalobos fans, it will perhaps
surprise (and hopefully delight) how light a touch he has provided to the opening tracks, focussing more on
enhancing the sonics, and allowing the originals to shine brighter through remastering and mixing down. It’s in
these moments that we see Ricardo as a pure music fan, needing not overly change or alter what’s already
been created, but simply doing what he can to maximise what’s already there.
What will certainly delight Ricardo fans are the four full ‘klub’ remixes provided of ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’,
‘Make My Love Grow’, ‘Softlanding’ and ‘Dealer’ that each boldly explore the outer regions of the dancefloor in
a way that only Villalobos can.
Mo rounds off, “From an electronic and sonics standpoint he’s kind of out there on his own. It’s such a unique
sound. Weatherall also had this, and Harvey has that unique flavour, and also people like Nils Frahm and Max
Richter have this gift. It’s not an easy thing to produce. Ricardo has his own personal cosmic trademark.”

With an intrigue for a particular niche of old UK hardcore which takes cues from Sheffield bleep ambience, heady rave futurism and soft, almost new age synth pads, Blank Mind presents ‘Lost Paradise: Blissed Out Hardcore 91-94’. Though the records gathered for the compilation span a short three-year period and bridge the gap between scenes, the collection manages to find a sweet spot where the influence of Warp’s Artificial Intelligence, back room chill out sonics and the nascent jungle boom meet with elements of Italian piano house and slower breakbeat cuts.
Opting to focus on atmosphere to highlight shared connections; in this case the duality of often serene and calming soundscapes with frenzied breaks and bass (see Hedgehog Affair’s ‘Parameters’ and Luxury’s ‘Twirl’ respectively); Lost Paradise is a formidable collection of tracks plucked from a thriving time for British dance music experimentation. The general themes of ascension and escapism channelled through digital samplers are also inescapably linked to a turbulent time in politics, beginning in the post-Thatcher years and culminating in the year the harshest anti-rave Criminal Justice Act came into force.
Initially building the compilation around DJ Mayhem’s track ‘Inesse’, Blank Mind label founder Sam Purcell and Amsterdam based producer Tammo Hesselink began a process of swapping favourites and deep cuts to spread across this 2x12” doublepack. The compilation avoids any obvious centrepieces through masterful sequencing, allowing for moments of refrain and tempo changes in a way that helps add to their overall vision of what this music is and can be; “We wanted to frame hardcore in a different light, looking at this idea of ecstasy through the traditional meaning of the word and exploring that symbolism”. By drawing from what some might consider the softer edges of the movement, the pair offer a look into the relevance of these tracks in the contemporary era, where the past years have seen both an explosion in popularity of old ambient/new-age music and a certified jungle revival.

Following the success of his ‘Love Dub So’ EP, Nick Barber’s Doof project returns to Mysticisms, delving back to his earliest recordings of his ground-breaking Trance project, presenting tracks from his previously cassette only release ‘The Love Mixes’.
A youth that had captured the psychedelia of Pink Floyd, Gong, Hawkwind and on to Psychic TV, as a self-taught guitarist, his first trip to India and Thailand in 1989 and witnessing the early electronic dance music at the Full Moon parties, had seemed rudimentary in nature compared to musicality of psychedelic rock.
Returning to England, the electronic / rock crossover of The Shamen’s ‘Progeny’ parties – featuring DJs like Paul Oakenfold and Mixmaster Morris with the live acts of Orbital and Ramjac Corporation – offered something new that turned his head, before finally finding his crew in the legendary squat / underground Pagan parties. There, residents Lol and Yaz first played the new electronic Trance sound, introducing Barber to the music of Eye-Q, Dance To Trance and the hugely influential Pete Namlook.
Recorded between 1990 – 1991, while living in Cambridge to study Philosophy, these are the first versions of tracks that formed the basis of his debut EP on Novamute, in 1993. Working with minimal equipment – an Akai sampler, Roland monosynth, Yamaha delay pedal, all sequenced on an Atari black and white PC and single MIDI output and then recorded straight to an 8-track Tascam cassette multitrack – the exuberance and rawness of the music are full of the excitement and naivety of youth.
Never intended for public release or initially even as a demo, Barber would play the music off the Tascam multitrack for friends at after parties. Dubbing a handful of cassettes himself and personally drawing the covers, around a dozen cassettes were handed out to mates. Eventually one copy found its way to Mute Records, who were looking to launch their dance offshoot, Novamute. Re-edited mixes of Gift Of The Gods and The Nagual appeared on his debut EP and history was made, before Doof went on to release for luminaries like TIP Records and Dragonfly and a career touring the globe was launched.
Remastered from the original tapes, this EP offers a snapshot of that time, the energy and joy of these early recordings is clear and overwhelming. Where Ambient, House and Techno met the birth of electronic Trance that truly stand up some 30 years later as originals then and now.

Dark Entries has raided the bathhouse to bring us Deep Entries: Gay Electronic Excursions 1979-1985, 10 tracks of obscure queer synth bliss. One of Dark Entries' most important missions has been illuminating neglected facets of gay musical history, with crucial archival works by legends like Patrick Cowley, Sylvester, and Man Parrish. On Deep Entries, the label spans 6 years of gay electronics - from sultry to angsty to camp, these songs are overflowing with snappy 808 snares and sinewy analog synth leads. The '80s were a difficult period for many in the gay community as they grappled with the horrors of the HIV/AIDS crisis. The 10 tracks on Deep Entries, varied in genre and vibe, are united in their portraiture of 1980s gay life, and the hope for love or fleeting romance. Previously unreleased cruising soundtracks come courtesy of Patrick Cowley’s “Love Me Hot” featuring vocalist Paul Parker and Boytronic’s “Tonight (Alternate Mix)” set on Hamburg’s famous “Mile of Sin.” Brisbane-based Megamen deliver the proto-electroclash number “Designed for Living,” which prefigures Madonna’s Marlene Dietrich rap in “Vogue.” Trans vocalist Paula "Ula" Villagrá declares, “Everyone is gay!” on Muzak’s “Happy Song,” a skittering tecnopop anthem. Dereck Higgins' “This Was Something” rings like a lost Joy Division cut draped in bizarre effects, and Polar Praxis’ “(I Want) To Be Different” is a seething ode to alterity. Nightmoves’ “Nightdrive,” is best known as the brooding instrumental B-side to their epochal “Transdance.” Transistor Jet’s “Master Of The Universe (BW's f-w)”, Maxx Mann’s “Just Like a Razor” and Bachelor’s Anonymous’ “A Stranger’s Bed” are mood music for the pleasures of BDSM and one-night stands. The record comes housed in a retro bathhouse fantasy sleeve designed by Gwenaël Rattke and includes a double-sided poster with photographs and lyrics. Deep Entries arrives on December 1st in honor of World AIDS day, and proceeds will go to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

In early 2023, Tresor Records will reissue the sole output from Shifted Phases entitled The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope. Initially released in 2002, soon after James Stinson passed away, this LP plays a mysterious and compelling role in the Drexciya journey. While other records of Drexciya and related projects have received numerous reprints and editions, The Cosmic Memoirs... has remained out of print since its release. This rarity leaves it more open to interpretation with its place in the Drexciyan storm series, as it became increasingly hard to find and underexplored.
Track titles Solar Wind, White Dwarf, and Lonely Journey of the Comet Bopp reveal a focus on cosmic realms, suggesting a link with the Drexciya LP Grava 4 that moves from the underwater to the galactic. As it launches with mechanical blows on a precise orbit, each repetition entrenches the gravitational pull in the galaxy of Shifted Phases. In many places, it sounds like the readout of frequencies harvested from outer space, pockmarked with packet loss from the millions of kilometres distance travelled.
The music is hard to contain, intuitively restless in motion through its unfolding universe and achingly resonant. It shapeshifts across a ectedly melodic sequences such as in Lonely Journey..., to the sparse, hard-hitting timbres found in Alien Vessel Distress Call and the mangled reverse vocals in The Freak Show, somewhat reminiscent of another Drexciya side-project, Glass Domain. After a brief hiatus we’re back with the release of the 1993 debut EP of former Prodigy dancer and keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill. The first of two self-released 12”s during his time with the group, Lowrise EP was recorded in the frantically fruitful climate between the release of Experience and Music For A Jilted Generation dropped. Leeroy is still hard at it producing and DJing all over the world and has just published a book about his time in The Prodigy called Wildfire: My Ten Years Getting High In The Prodigy.
