Redscale is back! Fantastic news that was hard to keep secret the last few months. After a solid 3 years of working exclusively on building the Greyscale label, owner grad_u felt its the right time to also focus on his own music. And we all can't be more happy to hear what he's been up to!
Redscale #10 has all the hallmarks of the classic output but the energy is dialed up to 11. 'Siren' is a pure dancefloor packer! It has that ideal combination of underground techno club power and catchy supporting chords. Think Aril Brikha's 'Groove La Chord' and you get the idea of a true heater.
'Dancefloor is Dangerous' is on the B-side and it was specifically made for a gig where grad_u showcased his live chops warming up the crowd for Jeff Mills. That big club dub techno sound made to perform live in China, Iran, France and others.

Greyscale's most personal release and perhaps the most important for label owner grad_u aka Aleksandr Martinkevic. Earlier this year, Alex was diagnosed with cancer. Certainly a horrible thing to hear and there has definitely been some low moments in certain stages of the journey. At just 36 years old, many of us are shocked that such a young person can develop cancer. After some research he found out that younger and younger people are randomly getting cancer studies show. An alarming trend to learn about. However, there has also been a lot of other learning and different new levels of appreciation for the simple things in life as a new higher level of inspiration in making music has manifested. And this new release encapsulates that. Alex has also felt a duty to make things better for others. Focusing on what can be improved as he wants to highlight research, treatment and the overall communication of this disease to more people in the electronic music scene. Part of the proceeds from this new album will be donated to the National Cancer Institute in his homeland of Lithuania. Alex wants everyone to know that catching these signs early and getting regular checkups are your best chance at beating cancer. Thankfully Alex did this also and his treatments have gone well. Alex plans still stay steadfast with his label and his life. Simplifying things with the love from his family and friends, focusing on his hobbies along with making sure he makes his health his #1 personal priority.
The name for this full length release is titled 'T2NO'. grad_u's most introspective work yet features 8 emotional tracks overall. The honesty expressed in this album is blunt and to the point. These tracks take you on an audio journey thru grad_u as he expresses his feelings thru the entire process in each stage. Beginning with two wonderful ambient tracks named 'Genetic Mutation' & 'Carcinogen'. In the opener, Chords rain over you as a beautiful ambient melody peeks out underneath it followed by a more stark and hazy field of interference. From the gentle opener to the more tension filled follower, the personal journey of grad_u is developing before your ears. The b-side of 'Neoplasm' is a bit more somber but also has a ray of light in it. Introspective as it can get, this is a true journey through an uncertain future. 'MRI scan' needs no explanation....
The second half of the album begins the understanding of what grad_u was going thru. 'Malignant Transformation' gives off that feeling of the human body working thru the science. Fight or flight becomes the theme for this track. 'Adenocarcinoma' almost gives off the sound of cells rebuilding themselves. Sci-fi meets real life in this epic battle. 'Resection' continues this scientific sounding reflection on the body healing with sounds of movement and time. As if the body is working itself out. Lastly and triumphantly comes the closing track 'Waking up to a New
Life'....
The emotional journey of this album isn't for the faint of heart. It leaves nothing to the imagination. It works thru all the emotions that can come with such and life changing event like having cancer. We want to thank grad_u for sharing his story with us. This story can happen to anyone...

Mid June will see the launch of Echocord sub-label Echo Echo with the ‘Dream Observer’ EP from Grad_u. Copenhagen’s Echocord is a Dub Techno imprint with a history dating back fifteen years and a back catalogue featuring material from genre defining artists like Deepchord, Fluxion, Sven Weisemann, Pole and grad_u who launches the new off shoot imprint Echo The release opens with ‘Jacob’s Dream’, fifteen minutes of release date: subtly modulating synth glitches, ethereal synth drones, sweeping atmospherics and dubby echoes creating a hypnotic, ever-unfolding composition. ‘Observing The Night Sky’ then follows on the flip side with thunderous kick drums, rumbling low-end pulses, wandering dub chords and bubbling glitches all subtly nuanced throughout the tracks ten-minute duration.

His 1991 track Strider remained an obscure Detroit Techno classic only for those who know and were lucky enough to get hold of the a rare test pressing of MK's first release Get It Right! on his own imprint called Masahiro Records which later became Area 10. However Strider didn't made it to the official release and was replaced by another track, as years gone by a video of this true gem caught a lot of attention and leaded to this reissue eventually. The track was remastered and comes with an additional extended version edited by Mojuba's very own Oracy. Enjoy this almost forgotten piece of Detroit music history!

The reverse sleeve of the 12” features words written on a hospital whiteboard in Gaza by Doctors Without Borders medic Dr Mahmoud Abu Nujaila – words which went viral on global social media - depicting the desperation of medical professionals and civilians in Gaza. Fontaines DC, Massive Attack and Young Fathers have donated their music in full support of the incredible Doctors Without Borders staff working in Gaza today, as a statement for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people living under a brutal military occupation.
Fontaines DC, Massive Attack & Young Fathers will donate 100% of the profits from this promotional venture to Médecins Sans Frontières (UK - charity number: 1026588) emergency operations in Gaza and the West Bank. The total donation is expected to be in excess of £150,000.
3D (Massive Attack) said: "The hourly scenes of horror in Gaza, with hospitals and schools bombed to dust and innocent civilians, journalists and doctors killed in unspeakable numbers has been made so much worse by more than ten weeks of abject political failure.

With an album as versatile and expansive as his LP Fusion, Len Faki wanted a collection of remixes to display a similar kind of musical variety. Hand-picked from his favorite producers, the cast now features a diverse group of artists who have re-imagined 20 of Fusion's tracks, set to arrive on two double and one single 12" EP.
FigureX39 kicks off the trilogy, with our very own Arthur Robert at the helm, fittingly remaking the album's pensive closer into a melodic peak time stomper. Ø [Phase] ramps up the intensity on straight-laced Temple, keeping the BPM in line with modern techno's need for speed.
On the flip, rRoxymore inverts Tor 8 into a psychedelic funnel of haunted voices and pummeling percussion, while dubby synth swilrs and ferocious filter action give Pangea's rework of Space Cowboys I a distinctly UK-feel.
Coming in as hard hitting as ever, PAS layers high-octane rave stabs and nonstop propulsive drums on his version of Yantra and one of the album's few original house tracks, It's Time … gets the Truncate treatment, making for lean, clap-heavy groover with enough low-end to move some bodies. Often known for his cinematic compositions, Djrum delivers a complex masterpiece of heady drum science and intricate patterns condensed into one dazzling mosaic of sound. Closing this first EP out in style is Munich-based newcomer Polygonia, presenting her shimmering and always shifting remix of Friedrichshain Funk, effortlessly moving between driving rhythms and mystical melodies.

This year's Dots And Pearls once again impresses with its broad spectrum. From minimalistic grooves and melodic house to dark techno and even EBM influences back to playful tunes for the heart. Kyivian producer JOSS breaks the first ground with "Assessing". A sweet opener that immediately reveals its emotional but happy core. As the song progresses, it gradually immerses you in its world of smooth and phasing string pads. The rhythm groove, while fluffy, also manages to create a sense of intensity that keeps the listener engaged throughout. The electronic musician and Poker Flat founder's contemplative new studio album takes in minimal house music, moody techno and effervescent breaks across 11 unique tracks. His previous LP Paradise Sold alongside Langenberg was released in 2018 to critical acclaim, and described as "elegantly euphoric" by Mixmag. Never Ending Winding Roads is an entirely solo release however, with much of it produced during the months of enforced isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many of the track titles reflect Steve's headspace during this time, with themes of solitude, contemplation and reflection brought to the fore perhaps more than with any of his previous work. Steve's formative musical years were spent during Germany's techno and acid-house heyday, with his love for a perfect groove as apparent now as it was back then. His DJ skills and a keen, innovative ear led him not down the typical path of the early nineties trance and harder dance scene, but instead towards a fresher, hybrid sound-merging stripped deep house, tweaked out acid and more minimal forms of techno and electronic music: a strand of music he fiercely champions to this day.
"My mindset when making Never Ending Winding Roads was completely different to any other project I have embarked on. I didn't have to tour, and instead could focus 100% on writing music without having the dancefloor as a constant influence. This allowed me creative freedom to explore a range of styles and emotions, and as a result, it is the album I feel most satisfied with to date." says Steve Bug.
With 11 brand new tracks, Never Ending Winding Roads is a meticulously produced and deeply engaging electronic album; one that explores various shades of house, techno and broken beat with Steve's celebrated attention to detail and consummate originality. Album opener Lucid Loops perfectly sets the tone, immediately ensnaring you with a hypnotic, undulating synth line and a faintly menacing undertone thanks to hushed, discordant strings and unnerving vocal stabs. This atmosphere of quiet paranoia permeates many of the tracks on Never Ending Winding Roads, most explicitly in the sinewy groove and sketchy, panic-inducing synth line of Locked Away In My Head.
This album more than perhaps any other in his career sees Steve experimenting with broken-beats, to incredible effect. Tracks like A Conscious Machine and Electro Harmonix are melodic, emotionally-rich cuts: burst of radiant optimism that juxtapose beautifully with the album's darker moments. Weaving between self-built zithers, drones, clarinets, slide guitars and drum machines, ‘Sun Arcs’ is a beautifully
unique sound offering with inventive, free spirited and DIY sensibility.
Blue Lake is the musical moniker of American born, Copenhagen based multidisciplinary artist and musician
Jason Dungan, who signs to the Tonal Union imprint for the release of his new longform album ‘Sun Arcs’. It
follows 2022’s release ‘Stikling’, earning a nomination for ‘Album of the Year’ at the Danish Music Awards plus
warm praise from The Hum blog and musicians and DJs alike including Jack Rollo (Time is Away/NTS) and Carla
dal Forno. A self taught player, Dungan began freely experimenting with self-built multi-string instruments,
preferring to build his own hybrid 48-string zither and working in the realms of left-field ambient music, off kilter
folk and improvised acoustic minimalism.
Musically it portrays a form of double life led by an American-identifying person living in Scandinavia, and a new
found presence in Denmark, seeking out underdeveloped marshlands and barren stretches of beach adrift from
other rhythms and distractions. Highlighting their individual and potent importance Dungan concludes: “Both
places feel like “me”, I think on some level the music is always some kind of self-portrait.” ‘Sun Arcs’ depicts
the intricate balance of nature’s cycles and the paths outlined by the seasons, from a winter dormancy to a warm
sun drenched scene. The album scales new glorying heights and further defines Dungan’s musical narrative,
inhabiting a unique space in left-field, improvised and experimental music, borning his most accomplished
compositions to date. A singular and visionary expression, drawing on an array of instruments and sound worlds
with a renewed sense of joy and discovery.
The album's rich tapestry was mixed by Jeff Zeigler (Laraaji, Mary Lattimore, Kurt Vile / Steve Gunn) and mastered
by Stephan Mathieu (Kali Malone, KMRU, Félicia Atkinson). More
