The new FAT comes off similar to a 12 step program without the raised index finger or narcotic dependence. The final report: intoxicating music is always better than madness by intoxication!
Fact is that this statement clears it all up – bellowing is redolence. It don’t stop with two intelligent digital rock waves. The one psycho with a proper nozzle in the veins, the other one purposefully en march on the tunnel opening to the hearts warmth! The ring of fire is presented in the House of the Wighnomy Brothers
Intro – Pele speaks:
We say YES to the new generation!
Track 1:
The British football legend George Best with the rest of the brew on the pitch - On goal regardless straight to the brain of everyone in the proximity of the dance floor! The just about typical Wignomy waterwheel, propelled through the waters with the 4 x 4 drive train, paired
with easy jazz sizzling, interspersed with a rocket from psychotic wellness for a tumble through the nightly orbit! This is pure moon music!
Track 2:
Breath a little sigh, charge it to the music. My blood needs from now on to create in the brain this new sound scape.
With driven strength the optimum of the heart is opened by a melody of the positive vibe needed to leisurely progress in the dark reality, in order to shine brighter! That is pure sunshine! Building dream machines to wake us up!

After a short summer hiatus the FAT dam is ready to reopen, returning the flow to the world. The sweltering July heat, broken limbs, Klinsmann fever, and full of Vodka accompanied by scantily clothed bridesÖshould come as no surprise, the typical Wighnomical diversity calls for that dash of personality. Rumblings filtering down from the crown down to the lower extremities, and not the other way around; in 20 years this will stand tall in the annals of techno.
Robag Wruhme – the producer of the duo has takes great pains plying his craft in order that club-music lovers can thoroughly savour the energy of the DJ-couplet (in separate beds of course) in sonic form. For the last 15 years the pair is seldom parted for long periods. Through a fondness for each other tempered with a subtle tension, a diligence accompanied by sweat became their trademark. Thus is ensured the proper balance between stability, advancement, and unpredictability. From such a union divorce is quite unlikely!
Epinikkion
The madness of the preceding summer billed as one account! With the heat and sun, and slippery from the warm raindrops, the dancers gallop over the rainbow. An ordered pause would perhaps drive everyone berserk; this number drives the rudders with a bodily compulsion that blasts away even the heaviest fetters.

Gustav Wighnomy’s Okkasion re-(h)-and The green lunacy of next spring is will be envisaged. Especially since the winter is to be quite hard, the oven for the heart is trustworthily stocked.
A truly warm sigh out of the digital ether, for the positive, magically lucky moment is right here to find, ready to hear!
Here we have a remix with one of the most captivating melodic manuscripts of the dying year, full of feeling and expressed in the club. As if everyone could just fall luck blessed into someone’s arms in timelessness galore!
Hankkofloppe
The dark side of the Wihgnomy-Force. Darth Wruhme snatches his accomplice Jabba Maffia away to lure the last Jedi-dancer into the mysterious night. The best part: mystical and unstable energy can save lives and this is gonna be on the floor!
Best Wishes

Marek Hemmann - Gemini 09:09
2024 repress
Tracklist:
A Inessa 08.08
written & produced by Marek Hemmann
B Gemini 09:09
written & produced by Marek Hemmann
The Hemmann lasagna is ready! With a healthy dose of ground beef and sun-ripened tomatoes between the sauce and layers of pasta with a peppy salad.
Once again Marek has two tracks with which he arms the planet richly, but also where the cooking spoon just explodes in the kitchen. The writer has quite a steam building upÖbut this music is just so filling, that the stomach just knows that there was a hole there.
To prepare for this first album from the Hemmann kitchen, two long sides strike a tone with a powerful punch, breathless grooves with a long puff and an empire of sounds for the endorphin thrust within and without the headphones. This isnít a construction, but rather a composition.
Exquisitely vibrating grooves with a hopping deepness, percussive elements together with a melodic party radiating in a finely sensed positivity. Itís as if you could together with Inessa and Gemini mutate into a bouncing ball. When his tracks begin to spin, that which happens to the listeners is the stuff dreams are made of.
A Inessa
A track like the remembrance of an energetic dream. The typically exhilarating Marek tribalism (without the tribal) cares for the ëhousyí elegance and hearty thumps for an enriching regarding the musical vocabulary of techno. Music for ass and hips, likewise for knees and shoulders and not to forget the calves and lumbar regions which just pulsate relentlessly.
B Gemini
A balance of driven sounds called from the crowd, and that exactly with a concentration and cunning confronted which one doesnít so soon let go of. Fully packed and tidy kept brings Hemmann to the fore with this solsticeish enterprise. Emotionality in the laptop space and leaving the machines croaking and singing. With an impactful and gentle interior, cheerfulness is probing just in case!

Info:
The first LP is always a reason to celebrate, and also grounds for elated expectation (for more, of course): and now, respect is in order because here is the double premier. The first LP from Marek Hemmann, the multifaceted electro-tinkerer near side of the Saale River, and as well the first CD-Long player from the house of FAT!
We know Marek Hemmann is solo as well as half of the congenial duo Hemmann & Kaden, who for years have been the pillars of the new house & techno scene, both as producer and live act. The complete releases are in the meantime around a dozen; the innumerable remix business for colleagues from Trentemøller to Monika Kruse can it be counted. After the most recent EP, the floor storming Gemini, it was clear that the time is now to get a load of the night fulfilling complete artwork. On to the in between.
What Mr. Hemmann offers here on technoid material, despite the stacked title, is but a small universe. Not quite a snack, but rather right in the middle we find ourselves standing in an eclectic house-world, which in every corner offers a new discovery. From classic deep-droning dub epos over the ëfrizzed-upí house with Bossa shots and demanding horn action up to highly complex sample tone-art. Yes, it is a long trip through techno-land; one in which Marek takes us along, and one which it must be said, is quite wonderful. In the best way. With a round of wholly comprehensive melancholy, it comes over us like a sunrise through the broken club doors after a completely danced-through night. That happens often enough, but for the swinging beauty and manually-labored final touch, flashes forth Mr. Hemmann’s golden hands, bringing back the hypnotic bass lines. The humming monotony lives, as does the subconscious when it says to us: Stay! Move your ass! And look, what beauteous northern melodies there on the horizon. Then the sun arises. Blazing through those same - broken club doors...
Thank you Mr. Hemmann! More

After along with singer Fabian reichelt mimed the “erasure des clubwesens”, again the mr. hemmann appears alone with a healthy amount of frolicking around his favorite place – the studio.
For a long time he has belonged to those producers who tend to the opposite of the rather emotional-euphoria sound culture aflame in the clubs. The whispering under his breath “hey dancers, just wanted to say ‘Trance’ is back”, alternates constantly with “That’s what i’m telling you, the emotional quality must be placed in between the beats”.
Also here there is the melodiousness and let-us-laugh-while-dancing inside as in so many complete club nights. marek understands the further development of his signature and thereby, between the poles happiness and dreaminess switching ever back and forth; this is
taken to a new level.
The sparrows are already warbling from the rooftops – a new album out the pipeline. only as a small teaser-in-anticipation, this FaT release is not quite presented to the eyes. These three tracks massively blast the dance floors of the world. with the b2 piece “roundabout”, marek ventures into the breaks-dub-drum’n’bass-realm and injects it with a powerful dose of the hemmann medicine.
tracK information
a1 - infinity
it’s clear – it’s a hit! and what a hit it is! with “infinity” hemmann shoves the clouds to the side that this summer has so abundantly provided. rightly so, because the shorter days need more clear blue sky. above all our hearts need the sun. over the ear this functions wonderfully, especially with such songs.
B1 - You know
The laughter travels! a decently effective hopper for the club fiddlers sharing goodwill amongst each other is the program here. like with the best meals of the world, it’s the perfect ingredients mixed perfectly together that pleases your pallet best.
B2 - roundabout
The appetite on step together with rolling breaks and bass, has also infected marek hemmann. at first you might think ‘what like experimental drum’n’bass?!’ Then it morphs into an unbelievable shuffle-swing over the crackle of the beats and you find yourself overtaken, plunged into the heart of a techno set!

SHORT INFO:
Freude am Tanzen is back for a very special occasion. In 2022, three Various Artists EPs will be released, celebrating the 24th anniversary of the label from Thuringia. Whilst occasions like this would normally be celebrated on the quarter century, this release makes sense not only on the mathematical level. 3 compilations with 4 tracks provide the half of 24.
The release however also makes sense in terms of history. Freude am Tanzen is showcasing a broad range of electronic music, never neglecting their history but also looking into the future.
The last installment of the anniversary-compilation starts with the upcoming effgee reminiscing about something that’s most likely happened to everyone once or twice, packed into a classic yet fresh house track. Beautiful chords combined with a proper baseline. Sharing the A-Side with him is d.m.s., who’s production is settled somewhere between the urban and the jungle, incorporating elements of both worlds. Some groove to it, with vocals that stimulate to think!
The B-Side on this release focusses on variation. Lauer combines lush deep house vibes with some acid elements into his track ‚Janitors‘, while LoYoTo have opened their whole toolbox for their contribution. A wide array of samples and a meticious drum arrangement.
VITAL SALES POINTS:
effgee:
effgee is an up and coming producer and DJ from Hamburg, now living in Berlin. He has gained attention not only from Freude am Tanzen, but from renowned selectors all over the world with his own imprint felice. As there are already fresh releases cooking up in his studio, we are very happy that effgee is part of this compilation. Thank you!
d.m.s.:
The thuringian musician is no stranger to Freude am Tanzen. Formerly part of the duo Taron Trekka, Daniel Müller-Sachs has been concentrating on his solo-project in recent years, already contributing two EP’s alongside a compilation for the label. Apart from that, he is known for his outstanding deep DJ sets.
Lauer:
Philipp Lauer is no stranger to electronic music. Having been around since over 20 years, he is known for his solo productions and remixes as well as collaborations like Tuff City Kids and Arto Mwabe. Next to being a regular on Permanent Vacation, Running Back and LARJ, Lauer also runs his own label Brontosaurus. Having produced five solo albums already, Lauer is still hungry and creative. We like!
LoYoTo:
The Berlin-Duo has also been around since a minute. DJ Cle was part of the legendary Märtini Brös and one of the first residents at Planet and E-Werk, while Eva Be has made a name for herself since 1995, releasing on Pokerflat amongst others. LoYoTo have released EP’s on Upon. You, Watergate Records and Foul & Sunk. Nice to have them on Freude am Tanzen.

incorporated in a warm up or on the home speakers.
The flip side goes deeper into the minimalistic region of electronic music. Gathaspar has produced a
trippy journey, featuring the vocals of Anna Partini. One for the morning hours on the dance floor.
Front Left praises the groove with his track ‚AM3N‘. Very playful and delicate and a lovely selection of

Family, Fish, Shapes. These are only three of the many topics that Stefan Streck aka The Micronaut recently devoted himself to within his releases on labels such as Acker Records or Analogsoul. Always with a clear line, but never intellectualising, is how the multi-instrumentalist and producer pursues his scientific curiosity in terms of sounds. His tracks are elaborate and yet danceable. Sometimes they are composed minimally, sometimes they are utterly playful. Within just a few bars, subtle sequences transform to energetic roller coaster rides since The Micronaut loves having a game with contrasts. His newest EP on Freude am Tanzen proves this anew. The EP contains four tracks full of references to the past in view of the future. Indeed, the samples and sounds of the British “summers of love“ echo strongly until today, however, they sound much more like a reinvention instead of a revival in the case of The Micronaut. Since his music doesn’t shy away from big gestures, but virtually seeks them out – and discovers them where melancholy meets euphoria far from rigid genre classifications. Breakbeats from Britain come upon IDM and trance, wide synth landscapes are embedded in pop. Hence, this is how The Micronaut unifies contrasts a new in each track.

Good things take time – ideally, including a great deal of oomph. At least when it concerns new tracks from within Monkey Maffia’s inner circle. It has been four whole years since we received the momentary last piece of the “Monkey Maffia Music Club”, 12 inches full of funky nasty beasts dedicated to the best dancefloors of this world. In the meantime, a remix was released here and a track was presented there, but now we may once again enjoy a full load of Monkey Maffia. And on top of that the now 75th release of Freude am Tanzen! Monkey Maffia is personally providing the soundtrack for this ceremonial occasion. His tracks continually supply tremendous amounts of oomph to parties as well as loads of gravity and funk. After all, as an experienced DJ he simply knows what an awesome night looks like – a straight bass drum fractured while simultaneously amplified with infinitely warm synths. On one track, bass and percussion are throwing all our worries overboard, on the next one pads and vocals are shimmering to the bet. Whatever may happen, it can be said with utmost certainty that it will never become boring on either secular flat earth.

The third time is the charme...that’s right. Thus, the joy about the third album by Marek Hemmann is huge. As already accomplished with his highly esteemed albums “In Between”and “Bittersweet”, in “Moments” Marek Hem- man takes the listeners - and certainly the dancers - on a journey through different spheres of contemporary electronic music. Nestled in “Helio” and “Bob” branches to significantly different moods are introduced from silent pauses to weightlessly lifting off to dancing around dreamily. Yet, within the many interwoven details, a noticeable sophistication can be picked out. Even more seamless and subtle, Marek Hemmann manages to unite euphoria and sweet melancholy, playful and sublime sounds, warmly shifting basses and sweeping synth-melodies. “Moments” provides moments of life and moments on the dancefloor with the fitting soundtrack. A1 Black Magic Taron-Trekka's ride through the night starts funky and dry with the title track of the EP. The effects bleep here and fade away there, however over distance a magical pull develops. A pull that can only be escaped from with great difficulty. A2 Monofile Regarding "Monofile", Taron-Trekka conjures a groove as selfwilled as enchanting by initially making vocals and keys appear on a dead straight beat and then letting this very same one stumble over itself. At the right moment it engenders at least as much "Ohs" as "Ahs" in a club, you bet. B1 Red From black to red, from night until morning. For exactly this moment "Red" was made, which brings every last person to the next afterhour with its swing and depth. B2 Distance Entirely against its own title, "Distance" may indeed affect one deeply. Namely then, when one wants to delve into funk as subtle as extensive. That is Jan Jelinek at a gallop or SND with more punch. Both are fantastic

matthias kaden - Get Phunky feat. Aquarius Heaven (Nick Curly Remix)
As an ode to the energy of classical – characterized by warmth and soul – house sounds, Mathias Kaden's second album "Energetic" was received generously this summer by music criticism as well as by longtime fans and not least by dancers on the dancefloors around the world. Since that is where Mathias Kaden first performed his work live. Besides the excitement of the original tracks, there is however always the fascinating question in what way further 'greats' of this music will newly accentuate Kaden's tracks with their remixes, admix other nuances, break out in different directions. The first part of this tonal extension can now be listened to. Furthermore, the selection could hardly be any more exciting: Kompakt hero Michael Mayer uses the plea for the effect of energy intonated by Rocko Schamoni as an opportunity to celebrate exactly this musical pure form. He educes a euph oria from the actually calm end of "Energetic", which one could only wish for on every dancefloor, by going far afield with regard to the synth waves. Dresden's cuthead from the periphery of the uncanny valley notoriously likes to romp about at the crossovers between deep house, sould and hiphop. It is clear that "Koroka" as a starting point especially appeals to him. He grips the vocal samples and slightly grinds off the edges of the originals – in favour of a relaxed, dancing lightness in house music. In contrast, Redshape gives the originally hovering anthem "Clarity" more edges and drive. Sophie Taylor's vocals insert skimped loops into the analogous acid inspired synth sounds of the Berliner. The statement of Sophie Taylor's desire for "Clarity" is definitely placed on a new level with this rawly left interpretation. Finally, Nick Curly contributes the hypnotic and elegant minimalism of present house with his remix of "Get Phunky". The Mannheimer's tech-house swooshes by streamline-shaped, though not without Aquarious Heaven's distinctive words. However: a digital bonus of his remix is available as a complete instrumental dub-version.

marek hammann - Alice
Marek Hemmann's new EP "Chameleon" offers an appetizer to his forthcoming album: two euphoric 10-min- ute house cuts that do what they do whether in the oven that is the underground cellar or on the window sill at home with a view to the prairie. Both give that Hemmann characteristic crispy , dry beat with a pulse and drives the listener almost trance-like ever forward. On top of that, "Chameleon" builds a tender, soft synthie sound structure that again and again brings a wonderful heavenly vibe that in seconds turns into a com- plex form. "Alice" uses a similarly sounding house rhythm and forms a soft almost romantic melody that so quickly takes on a hypnotic-type flavor.

After the flirtation: Driven, Summerless and Fake on BPitch strolls Douglass Greed with a new disc and ammo of happiness out of Jena and into the world. The Spark/Noisy EP beams with four inebriated tracks on the FAT horizon. For this adventure young Dougi brought a few buddies to shake the beat tree free. The magic of the union sizzles when Mooryc, Schlepp Geist, Affkt, Chris Manura and Remood strap the drums on to the moped and chase the wind. Techno and house stretched right over its boundaries. A candy storm of elegant blows and snares in the right places. Melodies without the use of sandpaper yet still smoothly polished, bestow a view into the varied ‚Sound-universe' when Douglas Greed sparks sounds – releasing endorphins in the bloodstream.

Shortinfo:
Where to begin with a figure like Simon Fisher Turner? From teenage stage and screen star to illustrious recording artist for Creation and Mute and score composer of Caravaggio, Blue and The Epic of Everest - via a stint with The The and collaborations with Derek Jarman, David Lynch and Tilda Swinton - Turner embodies a distinctly British sensibility and boundless curiosity for sound. For A Colourful Storm, discovering Deux Filles, his mysterious project with Colin Lloyd-Tucker that has since been reissued by Dark Entries, was a significant moment in shaping their identity.
In August 2023, A Colourful Storm presented Simon Fisher Turner and Time is Away at Spanners, London. Performed at the tail end of Blue Now, a series of events celebrating Derek Jarman's last feature film, Blue, the recording reveals a lifetime of significant events and influences. Terre Thaemlitz's remix of Turner's Shishapangma (Comatonse Recordings, 2015) is reworked and appears on vinyl only, Jarman is privately recorded reading White Lies, Bertrand Russell is sampled, and Turner records his brother practising the Great Rissington organ for their father's funeral.
"My wife and I lived in Brixton, near the venue, on Coldharbour Lane, 20 years ago. We were above a takeaway shop. The air extractor was a nightmare and the flat smelled of grease. The market was a great place to buy fish. We adopted a giant snail, who we called Ayrton. I used to take him all over town and he loved lettuce and tomatoes. There was a wonderful small pizza shop too, which was so delicious. But back to the music. Brixton is music and I'm a lucky man."

1. I Warned You Baby
2. What's Poppin'
Cinthie steps up to Aus Music's 200 series with Rave Baby EP.
The popular underground mainstay offers three effective and emotive house weapons Cinthie has been at the heart of the European underground for many years. The Berlin-based artist heads up her cultured 803 Crystal Grooves label and the well-respected Elevate.Berlin recordstore. She has a vast vinyl collection and a deep understanding of house that makes her a favourite all around the world. She has long been a key part of the Aus family and has recently branched out into playing live, all while continuing to serve up timeless sounds that range from rave-ready to deep and driving.
This EP is the third in a run of four releases from different artists to mark the 200th outing of Will
Saul's influential Aus Music. It is an era-defining label that has platformed some of the scene's
brightest stars way before they broke out. Since launching in 2006, the label has remained dedicated to releasing club-ready music with a cultured edge from deep and melodic house to the earliest bass-driven post-dubstep fusions.
Cinthie pushes herself into a more ravey fast-paced direction with her lead single 'Rave Baby'. The well swung kicks are full of warmth as a nimble bassline phrase gets hands in the air and crisp percussion cuts up the beats. It's peak-time fun that completely takes off with the raved-up piano stabs and a steamy female vocal. 'I Warned You Baby' sinks into a deeper groove that harks back to 90s New Jersey with diffuse chords, Nu Groove style vocals and punchy drum programming full of good vibes. Closer 'What's Poppin'' is passionate house music with depth and drive. Raw percussion, turbo-charged retro stabs and another standout bassline make it a high-class weapon.

ABOUT
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, has remastered his groundbreaking second album, Musik, from the original tapes for a new limited bio-vinyl edition.
The record was first released in November 1994 through NovaMute and Plus 8, following the debut Plastikman album, Sheet One (1993). A masterclass in minimal techno, Musik quickly propelled Hawtin to new levels of success. The release followed Plastikman's first-ever live performance in a black vinyl-encased room at a semi-derelict Packard Plant in Detroit, where Hawtin was central to the burgeoning underground scene.
Before the full album hit the shelves, the track 'Plastique' (which was later described by Q as "...the flipside to Hawtin's early singles, all ticking percussion, feline acid tweaks, and cushioned sub-bass") set the stage for a more dance floor-friendly album, albeit one with an unsettling and sinister side.
The album, described by The Guardian as "music as you've never heard it before" and by The Wire, who made it one of their Albums of the Year, as "... a masterpiece", defined a moment in techno that still echoes today.
Now, 30 years later, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name that still resonates and that the album's intensity - on and off the dance floor - has lost none of its potency in the intervening years.
Available on limited edition double bio-vinyl from Mute and NovaMute.

“After a stay in Detroit in 2022 (where I met some of the artists whose music I admire the most), I returned to Montreuil, illuminated and brimming with energy. I had my MPC2000XL repaired, found a second-hand Yamaha Motif ES6 at Zikplace in Croix de Chavaux, and a Korg Triton on Le Bon Coin. The three instruments connected together rekindled my practice of electronic music in my home studio. Passionate about the new setup, I tried to record a little each day.
After two years of work, I felt the desire to bring together the eight tracks that brought me the most joy during their recording. A certain nostalgia and/or melancholy can arise from the sounds of the instruments used, each dating from the late 1990s. They plunged me back into the house and R&B clips that played on MTV when I was a pre-teen, which I adored.
The recording is raw and conveys a message of peace, humility, and unity. It pays homage to the early hours of house music.
The title of the project, “please don’t wait,” is simple and refers to the passage of time, urgency, and the present moment. It’s a message that invites movement and action.”

Release Info:
A year after Red Axes’s musical adventures took them through the sounds and scenes of Africa, they return with a second EP in the Trips series that finds them exploring the rich rhythms of Vietnam.
This project is a multi media venture combining music, film and travel in pursuit of extra ordinary collaborations. It finds the esteemed pair made up of Niv Arzi and Dori Sadovnik explore local cultures and traditions, link up with local musicians and record them playing indigenous instruments as well as presenting workshops for youth music schools. It comes after the Garzen Records bosses have established their unique mix of synths, guitars and genres as diverse as house, acid and leftfield experimentalism on vital labels from Phantasy to Dark Entries.
Opener ‘Ho Chi Minh’ is a brisling track with funky bass loops and the hustle and bustle of a market square infusing the organic house grooves. Local percussion, jazz keys and vocal coos all add to the richness of this most uplifting beat. ‘Hanoi’ is even more exotic thanks to the enchanting lead vocal, jungle bird calls and low slung bass, while ‘Phu Quoc’ gets more rave, with phased bass riding up and down there sale, an intoxicating lead line that sounds something like a didgeridoo and a manic synth that darts about the mix with disorienting effects. Closer ‘Hue’ is a blissful and almost Balearic beat with a shimmering lead melody line and layer upon layer of wind instruments, claps and hits that speak directly to your soul.
The accompanying film captures the essence of the trip, shows some of the recording sessions and local life in Vietnam, from beach parties to incense rituals via communal dances in public spaces, all of which inspired and infuse this record. As such it is a fantastically colourful and immersive EP that takes you to the other side of the world with real authenticity.

Imagination - Love Is Genesis
We are proud to present "I'm Always Right" by Imagination, an unreleased jazz rock LP from 1977. Comprised of five tracks with a playtime of roughly 30 minutes, you will hear one of the finest German late-70s rock-tinged electric jazz albums of the era. The recording is a delightful stand-out with unique compositions, aspiring solo work, and a soulful spirit throughout. Additionally, the album veritably glows with exceptional sound quality, as it has been remastered from original tapes that were cut more than four decades ago at the WDR Funkhaus, Cologne.
Here is the story of how label founder John Raincoatman became aware of these lost tapes:
"I first got in touch with members of Imagination from Düsseldorf (not to be confused with the UK disco band under the same name) in 2017 for licensing the track "Strawberry Wine" from their collectible "Shake It" album from 1980. A couple of months later, when I was speaking with Willi Hövelmann, the guitarist for Imagination, he told me about some recordings the band had made a couple of years before, when they had been invited to to the studio of the WDR, a major German broadcaster. A couple of weeks later, when Hövelmann finally sent me the files that he had requested from the WDR, I could not believe what I heard - not only that the songs were totally different from what I expected, but that they were also very very good! The music wasn't comparable to any other kind of fusion release that I knew of. These five songs were straight forward, tight and soulful electric jazz rock, a combination rarely heard from Germany from that time period."
How come Imagination - at that time a young newcomer band consisting of musicians between 19 and 22 years of age - was able to record at the well-equipped Funkhaus studio of German radio and television? Hövelmann explains: "The WDR got to know us from a newcomer band competition called "Pop am Rhein" (Pop at the Rhine) which was set up to support local bands and was promoted by several bigger newspapers. Imagination was one of the 5 contestants which were picked from 59 bands by a jury of music journalists and our band was invited to play a concert at the Philipshalle in front of about 3500 guests. Although a band called "Accept" won the contest (yes, the heavy metal band that gained international success in the following years!) and Imagination only made 3rd place, we were invited by music host and journalist Wolfgang Neumann to record in a professional studio."
Neumann's broadcasting show at the WDR was called "Rock Studio", and one of his special goals was to help push newcomer bands by giving them airplay. As a side note, Neumann actually compiled a series of three LPs on the Harvest label from 1979-1982, each of them featuring four bands. However, the earlier recordings of Imagination had only been used for broadcasting reasons, they were aired a couple of times but never made it to a vinyl or CD release.
So, on October 10th, 1977, it was time for the band to show up and prove themselves in the studio. The tracks were all recorded in one afternoon, mainly as one takes. In some cases flute, saxophone were overdubbed, as well as the vocals on "Love is Genesis", as Hövelmann remembers.
The first song, "Jazzgang" can probably be seen as Imagination's most characteristic composition out of their early period: heavy bass, saxophone leads and speedy solos by the band members. A genuine, rough, yet funky uptempo jazz rock tune. But it's "I'm Always Right", the second track on the album, that raises the bar as the key track of the release with its 10-minute length. The song starts with a great piano solo by Mario F. Demonte. In fact, "Demonte" was a pseudonym of Ratko Delorko, a classically trained piano virtuoso who is still active today as conductor, composer and performer. At that time, it was simply impossible for him to officially be part in a band like Imagination and hence the alias was invented. Anyway, the speedy intro leads to a very soulful mid-tempo jazz funk groove that offers space and time for the band members to perform a solo. First off is Uwe Ziss with sax and flute combined. The second solo belongs to Willi "Sultan" Hövelmann on electric guitar. For the furious ending the pace is set back to high speed. Delorko serves us with one of the most brilliant uptempo piano solos you may have heard in a while on a jazz record.
The next song stylistically stands out from the rest. "Biting My Time" incorporates a rhythm and blues feel with a 60s soul jazz attitude. The track was composed by Uwe Ziss who leads through the track with aspiring flute solos which feel like an easy summer breeze after the first two rock tinged tunes.
"Himalaya" sees Imagination move away from jazz quite a bit, rather approaching the psychedelic rock genre with a vibe reminiscent of the sound of the early 70s. Again starting with a piano solo by Ratko Delorko the pace is quickly at 150 bpm with the full band laying down an energetic jazz rock sound. Just after a little over one-and-a-half minutes there is a breakdown to a slower tempo with overdubbed mysterious vocals and psyche-y screams which may remind more of the legendary krautrock band Can than what is typically known as "jazz". The mood continues with tense saxophone and guitar solos, just to speed up again towards the end with furious drumming by Andreas Oelschläger.
"Love Is Genesis" concludes the release. It was composed and sung by former bassist Robert Schlickmann. Though most of the band members didn't really like the song at that time it still is a one-of-a-kind soft rock pop ballad which partly reminds of some of the vocal song tracks later to be found on the "Shake It" LP from 1980. The track manifested that Imagination were never really supposed to be solely an instrumental band.
We are now happy to have cleared the exclusive rights for this recording from the WDR and are proud to re-present this amazing collection of songs. It should appeal to fusion, jazz rock and jazz funk aficionados but also to late krautrock collectors. We are also certain that it will also please fans of the "Shake It" album, simply in terms of being such a bright and soulful debut with great music overall.

Release Date: 15.11.2024
Following a fallow 2023, a rejuvenated Growing Bin return to your turntable with this sublime collaborative LP from Gosha Martynov & Natasha Sinyakova. On their first foray into the physical, the duo expand the spectral ambience and medicated breaks of their earlier work with lithe touches of organic jazz and Cafe Del Mar cool, creating a complex assemblage of dreamy downbeat and emotive electronica that's entirely easy on the ears.
Opener "Pozhaluysta" seduces with smart syncopation and beguiling melody, its flute and fretwork finding ample space to slip around Natasha's voice, equal parts Cocteau operatics and jazz-club coquette, in an expression of a want beyond words. The mood shifting "Osvobodi Menia" sees the solemn, snaking sound of a sampled duduk drift into an optimism of airy pads and escapist mantra, suspended in reverb until the end of time. "Ya Tebia Zhdala" began life as a break-led experiment, gradually evolving into a romantic and naive sketch rich with splashes of piano and dynamic chorus pads. Naturalist hymn "O Dereve" weaves a dark and intimate tale from the point of view of a veteran tree as its buzzsaw guitar loops blossom into multilayered vocals full of emotion.
Awash with sonar sweeps, sumptuous pads and rolling subs, the titular "Imena Rek" channels post-rave bliss into the hypnagogic anthem the contemporary IDM-ographic have been searching for. Infectious hooks and spaced out pads ride the breakbeat rhythm for a dreamy experimental pop banger from another planet. The sombre sway of "Rany", filtered through the fog of a broken cassette recorder, trance djembe and unpredictable bass tones rivals the finest Motion Ward or In:dex releases for crepuscular charm, while "Smeshno" sees serrated drones sink into a slinking rhythm, playing counterpoint to the tender chords and yearning vocals.
"Iskra" closes out the chiasmus with a return to the organic experience of the opener, the flute and acoustic guitar augmented with nuanced hand percussion and a music box refrain. Listening to this album is like a midnight walk through an ancient forest - an experience which both scares and tempts you at the same time. From touching damp moss to feeling the thick fog with your body and watching mushrooms glow in the dark, 'Imena Rek' guides you through the terrain.
Flawlessly arranged and executed, this LP alludes to a long lineage of innovative downbeat, feels absolutely essential in the present and pushes the trip hop revivalists towards a fascinating future - Gosha Martynov & Natasha Sinyakova have created a timeless piece of music,
but what else do you expect from the Bin?

Singing black-lit liturgies of bog bodies caked in mud, entranced by nocturnal landscapes flickering in the moonglow and powered by queer enchantment, Tristwch y Fenywod are a Welsh-language gothic avant-rock powercoven. Exhumed from the depths of Leeds’ experimental underground, the trio consist of Gwretsien Ferch
Lisbeth (Guttersnipe, The Ephemeron Loop), Leila Lygad (Hawthonn) and Sidni Sarffwraig (Slaylor Moon, The
Courtneys).
Stark, striking and bewitching, Tristwch y Fenywod’s self-titled album is their debut studio recording, following just
10 gigs and a live demo. Formed in 2022, Tristwch y Fenywod ("The Sadness of Women”) record exclusively in the
Welsh language, conjuring an eldritch, subterranean, alien folk music played on dual zither, electronic drums and
bass guitar. With towering, siren-like vocals curling around the Welsh consonants, accompanied by stark, martial
rhythms and swirling claw-plucked strings, Tristwch y Fenywod feels like an early 4AD recording dredged from the
waters of an Anglesey swamp. The effect is simultaneously chilling and stirring.
The eight tracks on the record constitute what feels like a recently rediscovered, unholy grail of edgy, atmospheric,
occult feminist goth emissions. Gwretsien’s dual-zither playing scatters melodic fragments and spirals of harmony
around the decimated space opened up by the lugubrious bass playing and pounding, brooding drum pads.
Coupled with the Welsh vocal, Tristwch y Fenywod embody a new, unique Celtic darkwave sound, equal parts
Pornography-era The Cure, Svitlana Nianio’s haunted hammered string-work and the dark beauty of Dead Can
Dance or This Mortal Coil. Opener Blodyn Gwyrdd feels like the last ride of Princess Ukok, with lumbering bass
and 6/8 rhythms in procession to the event horizon with an entreating, impassioned vocal and surprising lyrical
theme. The doomed dancing of the zither provides the mysterious melodic bedrock throughout the album,
particularly on Ferch Gyda’r Llygaid Du’s heavy funereal sway and the slowly building, paroxysmal banshee
breakdown of Awen: an astonishing swell of thrilling chaos.
The album was recorded and produced by Ross Halden and the band at Hohm Studio, Bradford, Summer 2023. More
