Cassy returns with ‘E.T.Ascension’, a mini journey through the sounds of house and techno which she adores. With this release she revisits the simplistic methods she used when making music in previous years when living in Berlin with her then husband, where he helped build her home-studio in the living room. With him being an established sound engineer she learned a lot from him through the process and by using predominantly just an 808 and a PC, the pair produced the main parts of these tracks together, with Cassy finishing them off herself last summer. It reminded her of the weirdness that makes her productions so great, which is what she has pinned on this release, enjoying the feelings of freedom by using the machine again, and revisiting the feelings she had when using the machine for the first time, how fresh, new and particular the sounds were.

Just over a year ago Cassy embarked on her largest and most personal project yet, her debut solo album ‘Donna’, released on revered imprint AUS Music. Since then, Cassy has put out a string of remixes on Powerplant, Turbo, Echoe and Watergate, plus a track on Muna’s latest VA. Throughout this period, Cassy has also been in the studio working on new material, the first of which to be released in September, and is titled ‘Cassy 004’. As the title infers, Cassy is reawakening her self-titled imprint she created in 2006, and has had three previous releases until now. With no plan or set schedule, the remit was simply to release her own records, when the time is right, and the quality is high. The music always reflected the quirkier side to Cassy’s club tastes. And 004 continue in this vein. It perfectly encapsulates the sleek and hypnotic sounds of the harder end of her DJ sets. The tracks are titled ‘One’ and ‘Two’, with Cassy giving ‘One’ a reshape to round off a trio of cuts aimed at the dancefloor.

It's not really necessary to introduce Catherine Britton aka Cassy anymore. Throughout the last years she continuously worked on her very own definition of House. Besides releasing on labels like Playhouse, M_nus, Mental Groove, Dessous, Get Physical and Perlon, she also started her own label, entitled "Cassy". She's also known for her countless collaborations with musicians like Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, DJ Elin, Dave The Hustler, Luciano, Mathew Jonson and Swayzak and of course for her excellent Dj-Sets all around the world.

Catherine Britton aka Cassy entered the electronic musicworld in Vienna, as a vocalist for Elin aka Autorepeat. After her first Dj-gigs in Vienna, Munich and further productions, she met Dave The Hustler in Geneva where they started working on a project for Mental Groove. Geneva was also where she met Luciano and co-produced "La Ondita",one of the album tracks on Lucien-N-Luciano's "Blind Behaviour" for Peacefrog and "Alpine Rocket" together with Mathew Jonson for Perlon. In March 2003, Cassy moved to Berlin where she became involved in projects with artists such as Steve Bug and Ricardo Villalobos. On Ricardo's last album for Perlon, she co-produced 2 tracks. Perlon 52 marks her first ever solo release.

The second release from Cassy's new collaborative label 'Kwench Records' sees New York native Fred P turn in three stellar remixes of Cassy & Demuir's 'Please Me' from the labels inaugural release from November. The remit for each release on the label is for two (or more) collaborating artists to produce original material, whilst a different artist will deliver one remix. However, after hearing three fantastic interpretations from Fred P, Cassy was adamant that the tracks were so special, they had to have their own release. "His remixes exceeded expectations, and it's incredible how direct and beautiful they all are." - Cassy Cassy has been an admirer of Fred P's work for many years. She loves the way his music is expressed and its immediate nature. 2017 has been a vintage year for Fred P, with his 'Instinctive Rhythms' EP and FP-Oner album '7', garnering critical acclaim from across the board. The 'Please Me Reshape Project' continues the New Yorker's fine vein of form across three mesmerising tracks. Kwench Records is a project centred around Cassy's belief that dance music should be natural and a pure expression, a view shared by the artists she invites on board. Both Cassy and Fred P are practitioners of the label's ethos, looking to create songs that resonate with the listener, as well as themselves. Following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, Cassy is rounding off the year on a high. Enter ‘Kwench Records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront House Music. The remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on EP original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. They must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. And above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. This is something Cassy has proudly learned to master over her DJ career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. For the first release, Cassy has called in one of her favourite House Music producers, Canada based Demuir, to collaborate with her. Demuir’s ‘Derrick Does Disco’ EP which came out on Great Lakes Audio in 2016 was a favorite in Cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her Mixmag presents CD ‘Let’s Talk About Donna’, which accompanied her cover in June. There are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, Cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.

Djrum's first release since 2019, the Meaning’s Edge EP is an introduction to a whole new world. For the artist also known as Felix Manuel, it was created in the final stretches of six rather traumatic years work. Having carefully honed his techniques and aesthetics, and learned some hard-won emotional lessons over this time, finally he began to work in a quicker, lighter fashion – and to cleanse his palate a little by bringing in a fresh ingredient: his own flute playing. For listeners, though, it will serve as an appetiser, a way into the delights and complexities of this new phase of his creativity. It’s a serious work in its own right, mind. The use of flutes – including Bansuri, Shakuhatchi, Western Classical, and synthesised all blending and blurring into one another – gives it a coherence and a sense of airiness that unites the five tracks over half an hour, however divergent their beats get. And as in all his music, Felix’s whole life is in here. Ethnomusicology studies, untold hours of DJing everywhere from the gnarliest squat raves to the most rarefied deep house clubs, explorations of his own neurological and emotional makeup, and the technical finesse of someone who is never not creating music or art, all roll into an experience that’s dazzling, delightful and keeps on giving. Just the opening track ‘Codex’ alone touches on OG dubstep, Aphex Twin-like braindance, post-classical exploration, movie themes and more. Crackazat has had quite the run of amazing releases on Heist since his first outing back in 2021. Alfa, 2022 follow up Demucha and his mini album ‘Senses’ released last year have shown that Heist is the perfect label for him to show off his keyboard wizardry and broad musical influences. Whether he’s doing his ‘Monday Jams’ from his home for his dedicated Bandcamp followers, or he’s on the road to South Africa where he has a huge following, Crackazat always brings something special with his music. ‘In the sky’ hits you right in the feels and sees the talented musician navigate from synth-happy dancefloor cuts to electronic & jazzy deep house.
What might stand out most on his new record is how Crackazat feels totally at ease with all these different styles and how he blends his voice seamlessly in the tracks to add depth, meaning, and energy. This might be most apparent on the title track, which is built around a syncopated ‘Alfa-esque’ key loop (Crackazat fans will know what we’re talking about here). There’s gorgeous vocal chops and warm arpeggiated synths in the background that give the track lots of texture, while the percussion shuffles along in perfect swing with the song’s energy. Add some lovely strings, leads, and a moody breakdown, and you’ve got yourself a fine piece of dancefloor magic.
On “Burnin’”, Crackazat channels his inner raver with 90s inspired percussion, a honky
piano loop, and some very catchy & quirky vocal chops. He freely sprinkles claps and snares around like it’s Christmas and the big breakdown has the kind of madness-inducing energy that gets every clubber going!
EP closer ‘Dark’ is Crackazat in his most contemplative mode; a vibe he always loves to explore on his Heist outings. The bass is deep, the kick heavy, and the synth licks are mellow but powerful. His voice and effects give this track a beautiful extra dimension that would even make Fred Again jealous. The stripped-back percussion has clear influences from contemporary African dance music, which adds yet another layer to Crackazat’s broad sonic landscape. All in all, Dark is a track that makes you want to close your eyes and just sway into oblivion.
Crackazat once again manages to take us on a deep trip into his sonic world and showcases a level of craftsmanship that most of us can only dream of. ‘In the sky’ is a lovely end to our 2024 releases and we hope you enjoy the music.

Maceo Plex’s taste-making Ellum Audio serves up a sizzling EP from Madben, featuring a remix from men of the moment Brame & Hamo. Frenchman Madben has a healthy reverence for Jeff Mills and Detroit techno that infuses all his work. He has been mentored by Laurent Garnier and released on a wealth of quality labels from Bedrock to Suara. A resident of the Rex Club in Paris where he puts on his MAAD parties, he is now a regular in the best clubs around Europe where he serves up his always profound sounds, something he does again here. First up is the fantastic ‘Blooming’, with its old school rave styles and dusty breakbeats. Euphoric chords light up the whole thing and it’s a tune that is sure to get hands in the air. Brame & Hamo are Irish sensations who are based in Berlin and known for big tunes that range from house to techno to disco. After establishing their own label they step out with a remix that is superbly stripped back. On deep rolling drums, sleek synths unfold and take you on a cosmic adventure that is well paced and cinematic. Madben’s ‘Enjoy Yourself' is well crafted techno with a sense of progression in the ever evolving lead synths. Rumbling drums provide the power below and filtered, whispered vocals are an intriguing detail up top. Last of all, ‘Haze’ is a prickly track with snappy mental drums, off kilter synths that twist and turn and a dark energy that is tinged with industrialism. This is a fresh techno offering that comes with plenty of new ideas that are all expertly executed.
