Scott Hansen aka. Tycho's sixth full-length album is a worthy comeback, a self-proclaimed album about "hope for the future and a requiem for the past". Drawing on the image of Hunter S Thompson as portrayed by Johnny Depp in Fear And Loating In Las Vegas - "sitting at a typewriter looking out a window onto his past, trying to find meaning in the chaos" - so Tycho ventures to explore his own past and to sublate it in album form, with the express purpose of finding a universal sonic panacea for humankind. Tycho's cure-all is a vision in suspenseful electro-funk and thumpingly serene beats, which carry with them a signature womp and pump throughout. Focusing primarily on breaks, drums and rhythmic elements, Hansen nonetheless moves in markedly different direction compared to standout algo-choices like Dive, on which a slower pace was heard preferred. Peruvian artist in Berlin Sofia Kourtesis has been on an unstoppable rise since she first emerged with a pair of EPs on Studio Barnhus. The Cinematic Orchestra have announced a 20th anniversary tour & audio reissue of their seminal 2003 album “Man With A Movie Camera.” The live shows will feature songs from the album with all new visuals, celebrating the release across Europe. The 2LP limited edition comes in ashen and pewter grey coloured vinyl, housed in a rigid tip-on foiled, embossed and debossed detail gatefolded sleeve with updated artwork and new liner notes. This reissue will include 12” double sided art card insert of unseen session photography from the time.

As part of the film festival celebrations of Porto being the European City of Culture in 2001, Jason Swinscoe of The Cinematic Orchestra was commissioned to score a soundtrack to a silent movie as a one-off performance. The film was Dziga Vertov's ‘Man With A Movie Camera,’ a 1929 early documentary cinema film from the Soviet Union, and hailed by many including The British Film Institute to be one of the greatest films of all time, nearly 100 years on from its creation. The performance took place in the historic Coliseu Porto, and ended with a standing ovation of 3,500 people. The Cinematic Orchestra have since toured the show internationally over the years, including performances at The Barbican in London, NYC’s Winter Garden at WTC, and Sydney Opera House.

The band was in the process of writing “Every Day” when the film commission occurred, which had a formative influence on “Man With A Movie Camera”. Certain tracks that made it onto “Every Day” in other forms were written specifically for the score or were already in development, which allowed Swinscoe and the band to remold motifs to the film's unfolding narrative. The title 'Every Day' was based on the narrative in the film, which portrays a day in the life of an idealised Soviet society, beginning with people waking up, moving through various workplace environments, and into leisure time & activities.

“Man With A Movie Camera” was eventually recorded and released in 2003. it was met with much acclaim. The Guardian gave it 4/5 and said “You can perform an autopsy on the jazz instruments, DJ Shadow-like grooves and repeating chord sequences, yet come away scratching your head as to how, in such simple combinations, they make such heartfelt music.” The Independent on Sunday continued, “It stands alone, proud and complete.” And dance magazines also showered it with praise such as DJ Magazine, “The genius, a word not to be used lightly, of The Cinematic Orchestra seemingly knows no bounds.”

Since debuting with “Motion”, in 1999, The Cinematic Orchestra have sold hundreds of thousands of albums, generated over a billion streams and enjoyed critical support from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian, New York Times, Le Monde, Resident Advisor, Fader, Crack, Rolling Stone, Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Jason Bentley and Mary Anne Hobbs. In 2007, The “Ma Fleur” album was recognised for its bold departure from the group’s sonic traditions; in the years since, it’s been continuously celebrated, with tracks like ‘To Build A Home’ reaching huge audiences. The band have performed to larger and larger audiences and sold out the likes of London's Royal Albert Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Rome’s Auditorium Park Della and the Sydney Opera House. Originally released in 2002, “Trouser Jazz” was the hotly anticipated follow-up to the Manchester-based DJ, producer, record collector and cartoonist’s barnstorming Ninja Tune debut “Keep it Unreal” (1999). As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, moving between soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, latin, african, ska, disco, house, funk, electro, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour. His cartoon drawings illustrate gig flyers, posters, record sleeves, t-shirts and occasionally accompany him at gigs as live animated visuals.

“Trouser Jazz” – recorded largely at Carthy’s home studio with engineer Danny Evans – neatly encapsulated Scruff’s ethos, his joie de vivre and his inimitable combination of tight knit funk, expansive sonics and dancefloor dynamite.

“The album is a real mixture of moods and tempos, just like my DJ sets, twisting my influences and inspirations into different shapes,” explains Andy. “It was also the time when I started to develop my low-end addiction, as tracks such as ‘Ug’ and ‘Shelf Wobbler’ testify. The collaborations were enjoyable too, from Bernard Moss’ one-take flute that Seaming & Sneaky built a track around on ‘Valley of the Sausages’, Braintax’s medieval working-class themed rap on 'Vibrate', Sneaky’s bass and Andy Kingslow’s abrasive synth solo on ’Shrimp’ (which was the first of many tracks we did together), Andy K again on ‘Champion Nibble’, Niko’s glorious & touching vocals on ‘Come Alive’ and Seaming's otherworldly vocals on ‘Beyond’. When I listen back to Trouser Jazz, I can feel the fun and energy from those studio sessions.”

Everyone including Pitchfork delighted in the record’s joyful eclecticism: “Trouser Jazz is quite possibly the answer to all of your sugar-fueled Saturday morning disco prayers, churning out one chocolate-frosted cereal box prize after another and bringing down the house with an inspired mix of rubbery funk, hipster soul and gleefully contorted, krush groovin’ hip-hop.”

It’s tough to pick out highlights in a set of consistently top drawer productions but ‘Shrimp’ is an inspired fusion of Mizell Brothers cool and Roger Troutman’s squelchy funk; ‘Come Alive’ is a triumphant soulful jaunt blessed with Niko’s vocal and rooted by the most hypnotic bassline on the album. Meanwhile the outright dumb ‘Ug’ is “a giant teddy bear of a track… the subcutaneous bellow of the bassline, the Flat Eric keyboard squawks and slithering hi-hat snaps propel it to the top of the heap” (Pitchfork). Undoubtedly it was the aforementioned characteristics that made ‘Ug’ a stone cold backroom classic. More

Som Imaginário are the stuff of MPB mythos. Integral to Brazil’s Clube Da Esquina movement in the early 1970s, a heady blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, jazz and traditional Brazilian rhythm flows through the three studio albums the band recorded between ‘70 and ‘73. Flying the countercultural freak-flag amid the context of military dictatorship, the Brazilian prog lords shared much of the sense of experimentation and bountiful fuzz bequeathed by their tropicalismo forbearers. But armed with genius composers, arrangers and stupendously high-level musicianship, Som Imaginário introduced a potent harmonic complexity to Brazilian popular music, which would inspire generations of artists to come.

On 4th October 1976, having finished a spell of recording and touring with Milton Nascimento, Som Imaginário performed a concert in celebration of Nature Day in Brasília. The recordings of the show would become “Banda Da Capital”, which, for the past half century, has laid dormant, waiting for its mystical power to be untapped.

In the band that day were original members Wagner Tiso and Fredera, joined by Nivaldo Ornelas, Paulinho Braga and Jamil Joanes. Operating within such a hugely creative and free-spirited scene meant line-up fluctuations were inevitable and former Som Imaginário members also include Laudir de Oliveira (who left to join Chicago), Nana Vasconcelos (who also moved to work in the US), Zé Rodrix, Robertinho Silva, Novelli and Toninho Horta.

Titled after the Belo Horizonte radio station where they would practice during their youth, the show opens with “Rádio Guarany”, an improvisation led by Paulinho Braga and Nivaldo Ornelas. The track morphs into Nivaldo Ornelas’ composition “Xa Mate”, which also opens Milton Nascimento’s Milagre dos Peixes ao Vivo album, featuring Som Imaginário and a 32 piece orchestra.

Having grown up together in Minas Gerais, composer, arranger and keyboard player Wagner Tiso had been another close musical partner of Milton Nascimento’s. Some of their work together includes many of Bituca’s most beloved albums, including Clube Da Esquina, Milton Nascimento (1970) and Maria Maria / Ultimo Trem, as well as Native Dancer: Nascimento’s album with Wayne Shorter.

Explaining the inspiration behind two of the tracks on Banda Da Capital “Igreja Majestosa” (written with Nivaldo Ornelas) and “Os Cafezais sem fim”, Tiso remincies:

“On Sundays I used to watch the coffee plantation workers entering the church. I´d see them working all week, in their humble, dirty clothes. But I was always enchanted by their immaculate dress on Sundays. Taken from a line in a poem by my father, which became the hymn of the city of Três Pontas, the song “the majestic church and the endless coffee plantations ” became sacred for me, because it came from something joyful, from the workers.”

One of the album's most tender moments is a beautiful rendition of the post-tropicalista folk-rock classic “Sabado”, written by Fredera for Som Imaginiaro’s debut album. The lyrics are typical of the “desbunde”: those on the Brazilian left whose response to authoritarianism was a politics of pacifist, often psychedelic, non-conformity (similar to that of “dropping out” in the US)...

“Eu quero o céu e vou com guizos nos sapatos / Minha roupa em farrapos coloridos vou rasgar / E vou dançar entre os cristais azuis do tempo e esquecer”

“I want the sky and will go with bells on my shoes / I will tear my clothes into colourful rags / And I will dance among the blue crystals of time to forget”.

Jamil Joanes, best known as a member of Banda Black Rio, is another Minas Gerais native. His composition for the album is “Imaginados”, a stunning unplugged guitar and vocal performance, highlighting Som Imaginário’s south-eastern home state’s influence on their sound.



The CD and digital release of Banda Da Capital feature two bonus tracks from a separate concert at Museu de Arte Moderna, in Rio de Janeiro, on October 6th 1975. These are another arrangement of “Armina” and Toninho Horta’s stunning performance of his composition “Manuel o Audaz”, which he would later record with Pat Metheny and Lo Borges.



The recordings were taken direct from the sound desk at the show and have been restored and mastered by Frank Merritt @ The Carvery, London.

Having established their own idiosyncratic sound with stand-out productions across a variety of leading labels, the duo’s own imprint, No Art, is their musical home and their primary focus of attention, creating unique live experiences across Europe within extraordinary spaces and venues while delivering a wealth of quality material via their main label and various sub-imprints.

Heading up undeniably one of the most talked about collectives within house music right now, and following on from their sold-out debut festival alongside appearances for Circoloco and Solid Grooves at DC10 and Music On at Pacha in Ibiza, the No Art founders turn their attention to their most significant release to date.

A project which has developed, blossomed, and evolved across two years of meticulous recording, tweaking, and testing, ANOTR now present their debut album and the very first LP on No Art: ‘The Reset’. Created in partnership with the duo’s fanbase, the LP artwork is compiled from images sent in by individuals all over the globe.

The colours represent the spectrum found across No Art ‘Expo’ events and their shared ideas and beliefs with their audience. The project also sees a more organic approach to music creation, with the duo taking trips and immersing themselves within spaces amongst nature and the woodlands outside of Amsterdam while partnering with vocalists and instrumentalists throughout the recording process.

“At the start of the pandemic, with clubs closed and our usual sources of inspiration in the nightlife scene put on hold, we started searching for inspiration closer to our hearts. This exploration led to us creating and curating a mix of the music we normally played in our sets with the music we grew up with and listened to across disco, funk, jazz, and indie. Working together with vocalists, instrumentalists, and musicians, we have shaped a more organic approach to creating music with an emphasis on the interaction between artists, creatives and our fans which formed the foundation of our album.” - ANOTR.

Opening via the sun-drenched ‘Make Art Not €’, the twelve-track LP is a showcase and collage of the duo’s kaleidoscopic sound palette, conveying and constructing early memories and influences into a rich body of work. The classy ‘Your Mind’ is the first of multiple collaborations with close friend, vocalist, and musician Abel Balder found across the project, with the Amsterdam native injecting a slice of funk while lending his captivating vocals to proceedings to set the tone early.

Tracks such as ‘Amplia’ and ‘Canvas’ offer instrumental interludes and absorbing journeys through vibrant disco-tinged spheres, while ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ and ‘Mirror Society’ showcase their deep-lying love and passion for funk, jazz, and soul. ‘Time To Smoke’ is a masterclass in suspense, tension, and melody creation, partnering with fellow Dutchman Sebastian Kamae on keys to offer up a scintillating slice of house music fusing old and new in a typically unique manner, before transporting into the smoky blues vibes of ‘Flying Cars’ - led and carried by an effortless series of thrilling guitar solos.

The now iconic ‘Vertigo’ alongside Abel then makes an impactful appearance as the trio launch towards peak time territories, harnessing the energy found within their live shows and crafting one of the tracks of the summer.

Not slowing down, ‘The Great Reset’ is another example of the duo at their playful yet dynamic best, entering further slick guitar riffs and vibrant melodies into the fray, before closing with the euphoric and moving ‘Relax My Eyes’ - guided by enchanting strings, sumptuous keys, captivating basslines and Balder’s enticing vocals for a closing production set to soundtrack many emotional dancefloor moments.

A lovingly crafted collection of early influences shaped into a fresh and dynamic approach to house music and its wider sub-genres, ANOTR’s debut album ‘The Reset’ delivers an expansive journey into the minds of two of the most exciting surging talents within electronic music. Sit back and enjoy.

Roisin Murphy has finally become a genuine top-tier star - an artist capable of packing-out venues with dynamic live shows, and whose every new musical move is headline news. Hit Parade is not, as the title suggests, a solo retrospective but rather a brand-new album produced not by regular collaborator Crooked Man, but rather another masterful maverick, DJ Koze. The pair has worked together before, so Murphy is in safe hands. Musically, it's a genre-straddling, style-bending affair whose strong songs - rich in sing-along choruses, thoughtful lyrics and musical hooks aplenty - are presented in vivid colour (with plenty of sparkling organic instrumentation). Recent singles 'Cuckoo' and 'The Universe', both instant classics, offer a neat summary of the album's many qualities.

Schicksal is the alias of Rudi Huybrechts coming from Hoboken, a small town near Antwerp. He started experimenting with synths and drum computers in 1982. Heavily inspired by Front 242 first album “Geography”, DAF’s elektronische körpermusik “Alles Ist Gut” and Kraftwerk’s “Man Machine” and “Computer World”, Rudi spent lot of hours programming and composing at home with just some gear and a tape recorder. Some of these tracks appeared on local compilations but it was not until the hype of New Beat in Belgium that Schicksal gained a real attention. In 1988 Rudi persuaded Marc Grouls, the resident DJ of discotheque Prestige in Antwerp, to play the track “24 hours”. All the people on the dancefloor just got wild and the next day Schicksal signed a contract with Maurice Engelen for the release of a maxi-single on Subway Records. This new edition includes all original tracks plus two new remixes of “24 Hours” and the new track “Fate”. Limited edition of 500 copies. More

Invisible Inc is back with another remarkable release, this time diving even further into ambient, spiritual and folk-infused psychedelia.

“Mondo Organico”, as the name suggests, is a concept compilation that captures the “organic” side of Invisible Inc. The use of non-electronic instrumentation is a familiar theme explored by the label previously with the likes of Komodo Kolektif, Immaculate Rivombo and Peter Power...but this time the instruments and voices, tranquil and meditatively hypnotic in places, display an even deeper spirituality.

Featuring the talents of Andi Otto and his fello (electronic cello), Anna vs June's ethereal vocals, Tyler Ov Gaia's zoned-out mantra rhythms, Pieter Kock's 8-minute bass and guitar psych odyssey, as well as label favourites Sordid Sound System and Puma & The Dolphin, the record is enthralling and mesmerizing from start to finish - and yet another notch in Invisible Inc's rather idiosyncratic belt.

This record was pressed on eco vinyl. Everything from the sleeve to the inks are recycled too, in an attempt to address some the environmental issues we face today, albeit fractionally.
