The modus operandi of Awkward Movements has been defined by quality of electronic music coming forth rather than a set look based on tempo range or sound. This has recently resulted in 12s from some of the underground's finest producers including NKC, Chairman Kato and Daojia, pairing them with an eclectic group of remixers such as Andres, Scan 7, Maddslinky and Ekoplekz.Awkward Movements came together under Keith P in 2009, and has since extended in to an ever-growing family of players, now including one of our London's top talents in the form of Don't Be Afraid boss Semtek.

Pizza is the 6th release on Don't Be Afraid, coming hot on the heels of Mr. Beatnick's Synthetes EP and Semtek's West Acyd Shelter. The first track on the 12", Pizza, combines disco, techno and acid house elements on a broken funky base. Goons is a mean little track with caper-like 303s and a bumping trumpet bassline, backed by sweet drum machine beats. DJ 3000 takes the fundamentals of the original and replaces them with some of his own locally sourced Detroit ingredients, including a euphoric rhodes and some rich pads, to create a peak time banger for fans of Dirty Bird and the like.

The fourth release on Don´t Be Afraid is a reinterpretation of one of the most important jazz funk records of the 1970´s. Semtek rebuilds the legendary hook from scratch over a disorienting range of acid, broken and techno accoutrements leaving a rolling monster that might set dancefloors alight. Photonz bring their unique Lisbon via Essex style to the proceedings with an "I can´t believe it´s not Garage" take on Semtek´s beat, proving yet again that they are a force to be reckoned with in 2011. The B-side "East Acyd Shelter" is a sparse analogue workout that would be at home as much in legendary and much missed Kings Cross hangout The Key, as it would in a James Bond soundtrack of the Timothy Dalton era. When someone drops a CD in, and says "I've recorded a couple of tracks, that I would like to put on on vinyl, would be up for distributing them ?" " One of them is not finished yet though, I just need to put some trumpets on it", well your expectations are not particularly high. It's a wonder that it even made it on toThe record flew out the door.Few months later we pressed a 12 for him on P&D deal. It didn't sell as well, which is often the way with records we love. Fast forward few years.. I got a call from the 'No Trumpet Man' aka FAKE LEFT, who had another couple of tracks he'd done. My first thoughts were, sorry afraid we can't help out this time... then had a listen, second thoughts were.. Fuck Aye, these have got to go out. So here they are.RAD-TRUMPET1 - as you'll see on the scribe.. well there is the story. When we sent this off to master, we were not sure what the catalogue number would be. So the files were titled Rad Trumpet.. with a view to updating before the lacquers were cut and test presses done. Of course we forgot, and only realised when the test presses came back as RAD-TRUMPET.. and I'm left having to explain to Graeme via these notes that he is 'affectionately' known here as Trumpet Man.So RAD-FAKE we'll let the music speak for itself.. and not a trumpet in sight. Oh apart from the stamp.. but that's another more politically based story. More

Ned Ludd, possibly born Edward Ludlam, is the person from whom, it is popularly claimed, the Luddites took their name. In 1779, Ludd is supposed to have broken two stocking frames in a fit of rage. After this incident, attacks on the frames were jokingly blamed on Ludd. When the "Luddites" emerged in the 1810s, his identity was appropriated to become the folkloric character of Captain Ludd, also known as King Ludd or General Ludd, the Luddites' alleged leader and founder.

Much like Crowded House, you know more Dave Clark songs than you think you do. In fact, Mr Clark's musical endeavours past & present trace a line through the occult history of the Glasgow underground. Along with JD Twitch he made up the Optimo Espacio remix unit, reworking tracks by the likes of Factory Floor, Boris & Pharoahe Monch (?!). As a member of Big Ned he's traversed the nefarious regions of Post-Beefheart Shaman Rock. With Roger Elliot as State of Flux he released a series of stone-cold killing Techno records in the mid-90's. Under the guise of LUMA, Clark put out one of 2013's most anthemic 12"s for Optimo Trax in the form of the Amesville EP. As Truffle Club - driving electronic disco for the likes of Andy Blake's much-lauded Dissident imprint. Here however, he returns to the moniker of Sparky, a name you might already be familiar with having probably copped the Drexciyan epic "Portland" - the title track having been subsequently remixed by no less than Ricardo Villalobos & Tuff City Kids respectively. With this inimitable EP, Sparky dug deep into the archives to unearth two unique cuts recorded direct to tape in 1994. yes: NINETEEN-NINETY-FOUR. Listening to these tracks it becomes immediately apparent how ahead of the curve Clark was in dem heady dayz. Anyway, enough of the talkin - it's now time to step though the doors of Gnarnia and wash yourself in the light of.... the "Tapes". More
