Cabaret Du Ciel - The Breath Of Infinity (Sentena Touches Sky Remix)
After an initial link up last summer, Altrimenti Records present four more remixes of cult Italian synth maestros Cabaret Du Ciel. Once again the focus is on experimentation, testing unusual crossovers between artists, eras and styles in pursuit of compelling new sounds.
The results across all four of these versions are distinct from each other, and distinct from wider trends in dance music.
First up, Benedek approaches 'Great Plains' as a low-tempo space-boogie excursion. Following in the wake of his releases on Leaving Records, L.I.E.S. and People's Potential Unlimited, the LA-based artist lays down thick slabs of Moog while retaining the ethereal swirl of the source material.
Rome's L.U.C.A. (aka Francesco De Bellis) has established his new wave-inspired sound on his own Edizioni Mondo label, not to mention working in other projects such as MAT101 and Jollymusic, and he brings a sprightly, motorik energy to 'Climatic Variation'.
Lorenzo Fortino's 'Suspacid Revisitation' version of 'Lakota' is aqueous and psychedelic, but remains elegant and understated in its execution. The emergent producer has already released on Wo-Land and most recently Miniera, and this remix ably embodies the entrancing qualities inherent in his sound.
The remix package concludes with a playful, leftfield electro diversion from elusive Montreal-based producers Sentena. Hailing from an emergent scene orbiting the Doo label and projects like SnP 500 and Fashion, their crooked take on machine music perfectly meets the adventurous aims of Altrimenti in testing out crossovers of styles and creative processes.

Info:
Quindi Records returns once more to the swooning romanticism of Cabaret du Ciel, the long-running project from Andrea Desidera and Gian Luigi Morosin. After the contemporary material which made up long-player The Breath Of Infinity, Raintears heads back into the group's archives and focuses on a limited cassette release from 1991.
Originally released on Morosin's own Ionisation Tapes, Raintears is described as heralding a new phase for Cabaret du Ciel following their earlier Solarisation and Weather Colours cassettes. This revised, expanded version of the release opens with 'Raintears (Piano Version)', which originally came out on an Ionisation compilation entitled Imago Sonora 1. Truly evoking the spirit of the track and its meaning, it was recorded on a rainy Sunday afternoon when Desidera's friend and trained pianist Francesco Martignon heard the original melody for 'Raintears' and proceeded to improvise on the theme, with Desidera and Morosin embellishinbg Martignon's exquisite playing with subtle touches of synth and sampling. In its fragile, tape-worn repose, the piece is loaded with the delicate ambience a rainy Sunday afternoon implies - calm, melancholic and wistful.
'A New Day' is a piece cast in light and shade, contrasting two core melodic phrases expressed through synth and guitar, with a light touch of speech sampling adding to the cinematic poise of the track. 'Time Of The Twins' originally appeared as a single track on the cassette release, but here it's framed as two distinct parts which meet in the middle. The first half is patient, gliding ambience rich in the harmonic interplay and winding narratives which typifies Cabaret du Ciel overall. The second half opens up like a flower looking for the sun, all pronounced keys pirouetting across the fundamental chord progression established in the first chapter.
'A Delvaux Postcard', previously titled 'East Roads', takes on a spectral, spacious form as it passes by slow, rhythmic pulses and freewheeling synths, momentarily joined by scattered shards of sampled voice layered and filtered in a manner which reminded Morosin of Belgian surrealist painter Paul Delvaux. The EP closes with the original version of 'Raintears' (billed here as 'Raintears II'), a plaintive and disarmingly beautiful ambient piece centered on Desidera's light and poignant playing. As Morosin himself describes, "Andrea is in a full state of grace, touching the listener through his fingers with the notes into [their] deepest emotions. The first time I listened to the basic version, I was just speechless."

Cabaret du Ciel - Sunset Parade March (Dukwa Ciononostante Mix)
The Bologna-based LEDX crew are building on their established activities in underground electronic music with the launch of Altrimenti, a new label focused on the 'possible alternative' - a different way of approaching the art of remixing. Founded by Tommaso Meletti and Guendalina Balzani, the label begins its practice with Florence-based Quindi Records, revisiting the illustrious musicality of Cabaret Du Ciel's The Breath Of Infinity LP with a thoughtfully balanced trio of remixers.
Italian techno figurehead Donato Dozzy weaves a seductive, undulating web of pattering drums and chimes, delivering on his standing as one of the masters of deep, hypnotic techno. By way of contrast, Dukwa delivers a transcendent strain of electro, all braindance blips and new age pads. SSIEGE Aero complete the set with a wistful strain of playful, ambient electronica. Three distinct takes on a varied pool of source material, and yet feeling more like an intentional release in its own right.
What binds these tracks together is the rich, melodious quality of the source material. Cabaret Du Ciel's bold, iridescent synth lines inform a common embrace of harmonious tones and warm, emotionally open moods amongst the assembled artists, creating a balanced and yet highly varied EP. In that sense, it makes for the perfect opening move for Altrimenti - a true celebration of the possibilities when creative energies collide.

Cabaret du Ciel - The_Breath_Of_Infinity
Following the stellar trip through Woo’s Arcturian Corridor , Quindi Records continues to explore intimate, inviting
sounds with an experimental bent by facilitating the return of overlooked Italian duo Cabaret du Ciel.
Initially formed in 1986, Cabaret du Ciel’s debut album Skies In The Mirror was a low-key and extremely rare cassette
release of spellbinding electro-acoustic ambient music created by Gian Luigi Morosin and Andrea Desiderà. A reissue
on Hybride Sentimento in 2018 brought renewed attention to the startling music contained within this unique project.
The Breath Of Infinity is an album comprised of new works recorded over the past year, either as new pieces or
reworked from old ideas with the assistance of Giorgio Ricci. Morosin and Desiderà’s natural instincts as
multi-instrumentalists shine through across the record as they did on Skies in the Mirror , although these tracks were
in fact composed as raw live takes using electronic workstations (with a little additional fretless bass provided by a
close friend Giampaolo Diacci on “Different Suns” and “Climatic Variations”).
There is a crisp, digital timbre to the worlds Cabaret du Ciel shape out on The Breath Of Infinity – utopian pastures
with an air of optimism similarly expressed in the first waves of ambient electronica. Folk traditions exert a guiding
influence on the sparkling, ethereal melodies and full-frequency harmonisation, but this is music enamoured with
timeless plateaus rather than hackneyed interpretations of the past, present or future.
It’s also an album of variety. “Different Suns” tumbles with a pastoral, elemental earthiness thanks to the interwoven
rhythmic murmuring of percussion and live bass, while “Lakota” pivots in sharply rendered bio-mechanical formations.
There’s a widescreen bombast to “Theatre Azure” which calls to mind mid-90s US electronica, while “Meredith”
reclines in a blissful bath of plush 80s FM synthesis. “Sunset Parade March” has a distinct sense of propulsion thanks
to its overdriven, broken techno rhythm and “Highlands” skips with an infectious energy despite not using any formal
kind of percussion, but even in these more kinetic moments a preference for mellow musicality maintains the
dreamlike mood.
Consider The Breath of Infinity like an archipelago, where each track functions as its own distinct island of ideas while
being intrinsically interconnected to the others. In a similar fashion to acts such as Ultramarine (who appeared as
remixers on Quindi 001), Cabaret du Ciel emphasise the musicality in their electronic music, shaping out an
evocative, imaginative environment to idly glide through or attentively explore.

Woo - Cadenza d'Innocenza (Tagliabue Evasione Totale Remix)
2
Woo - Even More Notes (Leeway Remix)
3
Woo - Gold Star (Other Lands & Linkwood Remix)
Following the partnership between Altrimenti and Quindi for a suite of remixes of Cabaret du Ciel, the two Italian labels collaborate once again to explore three vivid versions of tracks from Woo's exquisite album Paradise In Pimlico. The verdant, delicate musicality of Woo's original material offers an abundance of riches for remixers, and the results are true to Altrimenti's stated purpose to explore and experiment in the fusion of different approaches to electronic music.
On the A side, Joseph Tagliabue offers up a snaking, psychedelically charged dancefloor vision of 'Cadenza d'Innocenza'. Milan-based Tagliabue has developed a potent sonic signature across releases for labels like Invisible Inc. and Sound Metaphors before starting his own Blue Sea Studio as an outlet for his expanding work into the field of contemporary soundtracks. That cinematic sensibility comes through in waves on this subtly trance-licked epic - a soaring set piece for the most dramatic of party situations.
On the B side, Leeway opens proceedings with his remix of 'Even More Notes'. As the founder of Wain Records and the Scram club night, the London-based producer is fostering a culture of leftfield dance music with an organic sensibility. On his interpretation of Woo, he offers up a more experimental, dub-informed strain of 4/4 club rhythms.
Completing the set, Other Lands & Linkwood join forces for their approach to 'Gold Star'. Other Lands is also known as Fudge Fingas, and alongside Linkwood he helped shape the warm, deeply rooted house sound of seminal label Firecracker Recordings. The duo's affinity for soulful musicianship and the disco roots of house music comes through in this spiralling, hazy rendition perfectly pitched at moments when a softer, more spiritual approach is needed without losing the guidance of an insistent groove.
Once again the overarching theme on this collection of remixes remains quality - a pursuit of meaningful expression, originality and open-hearted musicality. From the source material to the resulting remixes, the pursuit was a successful one.

Said drum is by courtesy of Ketiov (the brain child of Catz ‚n Dogz' Voitek Taranczuk) and what was initially expected to be just a contribution to a various artist compilation, mushroomed into a six-track exercise in bonus beats and rhythm tools, with propelling percussions, murky bass lines and tribal thrills. Channeling the heroes of the past with the means of today, Ketiov balances functionality with interestingness. Impressively crafted, brilliantly executed and perfectly pounding. Even deaf DJs could spice up their sorry lives with two copies of this. Blow your whistle!

Channeling the heroes of the past with the means of today, Ketiov balances functionality with interestingness. Impressively crafted, brilliantly executed and perfectly pounding. Even deaf DJs could spice up their sorry lives with two copies of this. Blow your whistle!

Roman Flügel presents: Sister Midnight!
What started as a party series that saw Roman inviting friends and favorites is turning into a full-fledged label adventure now. Shaped to be the vehicle for old and new Roman Flügel music alike, unreleased surprises and previously released sure shots from the archives, it’s the first time after his involvement in the seminal Playhouse and Klang label universe, that he tends to such an enterprise himself - with the help and support of Running Back records.
Now, the journey of Roman Flügel’s own Sister Midnight label starts with the valuable Tracks On Delivery series. Originally released on the third jewel in the Playhouse crown (Ongaku Musik) from 2000 to 2002, it’s a meditation on and contemplation of techno. Remastered, recut and repackaged as a triple vinyl edition with the addition of two previously unreleased „Patterns“. Pristine sound design, hypnotic wizardry and dry then architecture let all of them appear as if they haven’t aged a day.
Or as Roman says himself:
“I’ve always tried to push myself into new territories since I started music production. Those new territories can surely be achieved by the endless possibilities of inspiration, chaos and will power. At the time of the production of my Pattern series as under the name Tracks On Delivery I was highly inspired by some of Andrew Weatherall’s Techno sets while visiting London for some of his Blood Sugar Parties. Tracks On Delivery is unthinkable without the crude ‚germanic‘ mixture of Detroit labels like Jay Denham’s Black Nation and Weatherall’s own UK Techno imprints like Emissions Output. The Pattern Series, back then created for the Frankfurt based Ongaku Musik label, and now I am very happy to be able to release 15 original Patterns along two unreleased Patterns on my own Sister Midnight label.“

Cristina Lazic - Plan B (Sepp Remix)
After a successful career in the corporate world, marketing guru and full-time mom Cristina has taken a bold step into the music scene, inspired by the minimal grooves emanating from Romania.
Her Satya debut EP, titled "Plan B," showcases a unique and tasteful fusion of drum-based dance floor beats and hypnotic melodies.
Growing up composing on the piano and studying harmony, Cristina's musical roots strongly influence her creative process, resulting in tracks that offer a perfect balance between rhythm and musicality. With a focus on key themes such as family, music, and life philosophy, "Plan B" is a strong musical package filled with intention.
Her collaboration with friend and fellow artist Francesco Mami - "Les Filles” - a peak-time jam dedicated to their respective daughters - adds spice to the already flavorsome solo concoctions.
Sepp’s remix of the title track, infused with his Romanian and Macedonian folk roots, rounds the EP in a wonderfully playful manner.
Scheduled for release on May 17, 2024, "Plan B" is poised to make waves and gain attention from house music connoisseurs! Cristina's transition from the corporate world to the dance floor promises a refreshing and dynamic addition to the ever-evolving music landscape. More

Unknown Artist - Changes
The debut release on brand new label Shadow Pressings hits the ground running with 4 heavyweight club tracks that doff the cap to the halcyon days of Chicago house music. Opening track The Messiah takes the maestro Lil Louis blueprint with sampled sax licks and punchy synth stabs accompanying the raw, minimal house groove. It Started In Chicago heads in a more jacking direction with a snaking bassline, muscular drum groove, cut up vocal and sax hits.
Flipping over we have How Does It Feel which brings a touch of late night deepness with a rolling FM bassline and familiar vocal hook. Classic string stabs join the party in the breakdown adding the icing on the cake and making for a track guaranteed to create a special moment on the dance floor. Closing out this killer 4 tracker we have Changes which keeps things stripped back to the meat and potatoes placing all the emphasis on the punchy 909 drums and simple bassline.

Chicken Lips - - He Not In
4 To The Floor is committed to delivering seminal house music to wax, making sought after heritage tracks readily available on vinyl for crate diggers to add to their collections. Classics Volume 2 kicks off with a slice of Defected 2012 goodness; ‘Around (Solomun Vox)’ by Noir & Haze. When Solomun took his turn at remixing this Ibiza anthem, it was heard everywhere from Hackney warehouses to Pacha Ibiza, and showed a different side to the heavier original. On the B-Side is the Moodymann Edit, where he makes subtle changes to Solomun’s mix by interweaving tribal drums and stripping back some of the techier elements, followed by Chicken Lips’ electro banger ‘He Not In’ which thunders through. An instantly recognisable record, even if they’re not aware of its name or who wrote it, with an unmistakable bassline that has truly stood the test of time.

Lost Desert - Rolling Stoned ft. Tasha
A true chameleon when it comes to music production, Patrick Bruyndonx aka Lost Desert has been making waves in the global house and techno music scene for over 30 years under various aliases. Inspired by 90’s deep house, “Pagode” is a classy sounding EP steering away from the more “organic” music Patrick has been getting known for in recent years. It combines delicate, yet uplifting synth lines with warm pads, straight house drums, funky vocals and disco infused bass grooves. All in all, it is a well rounded EP that should find its way to all house heads’ crates out there.

DJ Koze - Rue Burnout
2023 repress
Tracklist:
A: Blume Der Nacht
B: Rue Burnout
DJ Koze doesn't aim for technical perfection for its own sake, but rather to serve the purpose of giving birth to great music. On his debut 'Rue Burnout EP' from his own Pampa label, he plays with finesse and sophistication, and implicitly understands the importance of subtlety, leading from dreamy and restrained parts to a noisy frenzy at the end. 'Blume der Nacht' starts with a looped piano solo from Arabian dodecaphony, interwoven with bangs of violine bows, piercing high-pitched strings, almost shrieking glissandi, deep angel chants and obsessive sharp rhythms. The 37 year old constantly horny wunderkind producer has made a habit of creatively foiling expectations, and works also under the pseudonyms Adolf Noise, Swahimi and recently Madima Lokkah to redefine the boundaries of electronic music. This daring concept works perfectly in the title track 'Rue Burnout' - it is very rare that you find house music this excitingly light-fooded and precisely transparent. The musician cuts the pigtail off the term 'Kackmusik' for good, and demonstrates how sounds are capable of creating the most delicate musical interplay.
Amen.
DJ Koze, Germany, April 2010.

john davis & the monster orchestra - Bourgie Bourgie (Dance Ritual Dub)
Repress!
Louie Vega remixes the seminal Sam Records Disco hit “Bourgie’, Bourgie’” by John Davis & The Monster Orchestra.
12” vinyl release on Nurvous Records on Sept 9, 2016
House Music legend Louie Vega continues to light fire to select tracks from the Sam Records 1970’s Disco Catalogue. He previously remixed Vicky D’s “This Beat Is Mine” and Convertion’s “Let’s Do It.” Now he has added his unique and legendary production skills to a remix of the Ashford & Simpon penned “Bourgie’, Bourgie’” by John Davis & The Monster Orchestra.
Originally released on Sam Records in 1979, “Bourgie’, Bourgie’” also features background vocals by Ashford & Simpson.
Louie Vega continues to be one of the most dynamic and respected dance music producers in the world. With a body of work that combines his timeless and trend-settings production with Kenny Dope as Masters At Work, and his own distinctive and equally impactful Louie Vega productions, he has always had a great knowledge and respect for the R&B and Disco music that laid the foundation of the current soundtrack of nightlife. The Sam Records catalogue is owned and administered by Nervous Records, with which Louie has a long history, dating to his creation with Kenny Dope of the label’s signature tune, The Nervous Track by Nuyorican Soul. The distinctive string sections of “Bourgie’, Bourgie’” along with the Ashford & Simpson lyrics caught Louie’s ear, and he has created a remix that has been destroying dancefloors and festival summer.
