A new hub solely for the Icelandic talent’s unreleased material, BJARKI will also serve as a platform to launch a wealth of forthcoming audiovisual projects in the coming months, with the label logo designed by Paul Nicholson, NUMBER 3, and all artwork designed by Thomas Harrington Rawle - the creative behind the Care More project. Operating and creating its own storyline with every release, intertwining projects between Harrington Rawle and Bjarki across various mediums, the imprint will also drop a series of offshoot white label releases while being reactive and unveiling random drops across its upcoming schedule. Delivering his first solo release since ‘Oli Gumm’ on ???? in 2018, late-February marks the first release on the new label as he unveils his four-track ‘I Wanna Go Home’ EP. “I want to share more of my unreleased works, especially the tracks that I have created specifically for parties in each city I play. People impact my work a lot, and I would like to share this music directly before or after the show. I don’t see any other way than to set up my own channel or label where I can share all these ideas. Next year will be a lot about sharing stuff and being in direct contact with the audience.” - Bjarki
Opening the label with authority, ‘I Wanna Go Home’ welcomes a quartet of cuts showcasing the genre-spanning polymath at his best, delivering a medley of serious yet playful productions which arc back to previous material while also looking ahead to the future. A creative force with an unrelenting swathe of experimental ideas, influences and directions, this new eponymous imprint looks set to home some of Bjarki’s finest and most unpredictable material to date. The prolific, virtuosic original Bjarki Sigurðarson returns to the concept album format, with ‘A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle’. It’s the first LP to be released on Differance. ‘A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle’ explores the psychological landscape of contemporary social issues, offering a sideways rumination on lifestyle dilemmas and wellness obsessions, presenting itself as a response to the modern condition. It combines storytelling with innovative sound textures – encouraging listeners to pause and contemplate the absurdities of contemporary life. Neither a critique nor an endorsement, it represents an honest exploration of our world through Bjarki’s sonic lens, gleaming a heart of darkness, but eventually finding light. The album utilises hyper-stereo techniques, soothing melodies, complex audio structures, AIgenerated voices and sampled vocals – influenced by Coil, Genesis P- Orridge, and Paul Lansky. Bjarki investigates how specific frequencies can impact consciousness, awareness, mood, and mental state, thereby influencing our perception of reality. His vaporous sound design provides a listening experience that bridges the physical and imaginative realms; sometimes placing the listener in contemplative sanctuary, and at others making them lost – somewhere strange, uneasy, disconnected.

Bjarki leads a pack of international artists who in the past few years have taken a hauntological approach to re-moulding the scents of breakbeat, rave, jungle, trance and IDM into sounds that are entirely their own. Already this year he began his own label bbbbbb with artistic sparring partner Johnny Chrome Silver, released under new alias Cucumb45, performed his new live show at clubs and festivals from Mutek ES and Peacock to Printworks, and recently announced a US tour for July. TRP015 finds Bjarki in typical, monstrous, floor slaying form with four trance leaning tracks that have proved an inspiration for Nina Kraviz’s DJ sets over the past year. Bjarki takes key aspects of trance and takes it for a headspin into the unknown - mangled percussion, disorienting voices, unravelling textural layers, sub aquatic bass frequencies and intense melodies. All make for a uniquely irreverent take on a much maligned genre that most of us secretly adore.. More

Following a string of releases via his own bbbbbb recors, along with bodies of work on ???? Recordings, February 2019 saw Bjarki debut on !K7 Records with the 'Happy Earthday' album. With the album considered to be the Icelandic producers first full debut LP, 'Happy Earthday' offered a conceptual collection of music which Bjarki thought he would never release. Influenced by his home country of Iceland as well as the planet's environmental issues, the album received support across the board from the likes of The Quietus, DJ Mag, Pitchfork, XLR8R, FACT and CLASH Music, along with being crowned Mixmag's 'Album of The Month'.
"Releasing this album is also a kind of farewell to music I made in a certain period in my life. It's like I'm saying farewell to a grown-up child which is now ready to leave." - Bjarki
As part of the limited edition 200 copy box set version of 'Happy Earthday', a secret album of original music was available to hear unbeknown to listeners. Now receiving a full release this December on double vinyl and digital platforms, Bjarki will release his second full album of the year via !K7 Records. 'Psychotic_Window' is a further extension of the experimental artists creative vision whilst continuing to address environmental themes and nature.
Combining influences from techno, breakbeat, IDM, electronica and more across all of his studio output, 'Psychotic_Window' is Bjarki's final signoff for 2019. The new 14-track album follows in line with one of his most significant years to date, highlighted by performances at major events including Dekmantel and DGTL Festival, along with pioneering eclectic new sounds via his bbbbbb recors label.
"After 'Happy Earthday', people have been asking me about the secret tracks and it made me feel that they deserve a proper release. Each track means a lot to me as I made them during a depressing phase in my life; I was pretty broke, working many shit jobs and also just being super lazy, uninterested in leaving my apartment. Before I started touring, I had these periods where I could write so much music without thinking, pouring my heart out to comfort my thoughts and feelings without trying. I doubt that this kind of window will come back to me anytime soon, my way of music making has changed a lot after going on tour. At that time, I was listening to a lot of Coil, Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti. I think every struggling artist goes through these phases of being sleep deprived, staying up and making music all night. This was my psychotic window." - Bjarki

Bjarki closes an epic year of releases on ???? with a genre defying 12” harking back to the misty days of rave and acid house. The frenetic ‘Fresh Jive’ features Bjarki’s trademark ethereal pads, metallic percussion and a resonant bass melody to create the perfect dancefloor ear-worm. ‘Genat 8’ broods as it builds with vocal snips and jittery percussion, heavy bass and moody soundscapes. It’s an essential vinyl cut that will further define the Icelandic artists unique reworking of classic dancefloor elements into his own signature sound

Æ is the third part of Bjarki triptych of LPs to be released this year. Æ is a particularly Icelandic form, pronounced “I” in English; Bjarki thinks it just looks good. Here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. Bjarki is from Iceland. Born and raised. Despite the fact that Bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. Something this triptych of LPs demonstrates very well. His music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. Bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. Either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

Lefhanded Fuqs is the second of Bjarki triptych of LP’s to be released this year. Follow the stunning ‘?’ released in June this year, Lefhanded Fuqs and Æ are being released over the coming months and represent a snapshot of his archive, selected by Nina Kraviz for Trip. The tracks were produced months ago, years ago, or in the case of the last track just a couple of weeks ago. What began with 30 tracks are now 41. The three LPs aren’t albums in the traditional sense - the concept being to release the contents of his burgeoning hard drives. The music might fit together like an album, but Bjarki doesn’t see it that way. It’s essentially an archive that sounds like an album but none of the music was made with this in mind. Lefhanded Fugs is released this September to feverish anticipation. Whilst naming one of the tracks that he made with a left hand for the LP, Bjarki was so left-handed that he completely misspelled it. But in honour of all the left-handed people making mistakes because of tools made only for right-handed people, he decided to keep it. The LP contains the more experimental material from the archive, including one the first film scores he produced several years ago for a story he wrote himself.
