A new hub solely for the Icelandic talent’s unreleased material, BJARKI will also serve as a platform to launch a wealth of forthcoming audiovisual projects in the coming months, with the label logo designed by Paul Nicholson, NUMBER 3, and all artwork designed by Thomas Harrington Rawle - the creative behind the Care More project. Operating and creating its own storyline with every release, intertwining projects between Harrington Rawle and Bjarki across various mediums, the imprint will also drop a series of offshoot white label releases while being reactive and unveiling random drops across its upcoming schedule. Delivering his first solo release since ‘Oli Gumm’ on ???? in 2018, late-February marks the first release on the new label as he unveils his four-track ‘I Wanna Go Home’ EP. “I want to share more of my unreleased works, especially the tracks that I have created specifically for parties in each city I play. People impact my work a lot, and I would like to share this music directly before or after the show. I don’t see any other way than to set up my own channel or label where I can share all these ideas. Bjarki leads a pack of international artists who in the past few years have taken a hauntological approach to re-moulding the scents of breakbeat, rave, jungle, trance and IDM into sounds that are entirely their own. Already this year he began his own label bbbbbb with artistic sparring partner Johnny Chrome Silver, released under new alias Cucumb45, performed his new live show at clubs and festivals from Mutek ES and Peacock to Printworks, and recently announced a US tour for July. TRP015 finds Bjarki in typical, monstrous, floor slaying form with four trance leaning tracks that have proved an inspiration for Nina Kraviz’s DJ sets over the past year. Æ is the third part of Bjarki triptych of LPs to be released this year. Æ is a particularly Icelandic form, pronounced “I” in English; Bjarki thinks it just looks good. Here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. Bjarki is from Iceland. Born and raised. Despite the fact that Bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. Something this triptych of LPs demonstrates very well. His music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. Bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. Lefhanded Fuqs is the second of Bjarki triptych of LP’s to be released this year. Follow the stunning ‘?’ released in June this year, Lefhanded Fuqs and Æ are being released over the coming months and represent a snapshot of his archive, selected by Nina Kraviz for Trip. The tracks were produced months ago, years ago, or in the case of the last track just a couple of weeks ago. What began with 30 tracks are now 41. The three LPs aren’t albums in the traditional sense - the concept being to release the contents of his burgeoning hard drives. The music might fit together like an album, but Bjarki doesn’t see it that way. It’s essentially an archive that sounds like an album but none of the music was made with this in mind. Lefhanded Fugs is released this September to feverish anticipation. Whilst naming one of the tracks that he made with a left hand for the LP, Bjarki was so left-handed that he completely misspelled it. But in honour of all the left-handed people making mistakes because of tools made only for right-handed people, he decided to keep it. The LP contains the more experimental material from the archive, including one the first film scores he produced several years ago for a story he wrote himself. Bjarki is from Iceland. Iceland’s Volruptus returns to Bjarki’s bbbbbb with five esoteric cuts titled ‘Alien Agenda’. Releasing on bbbbbb at the end of last year, Volruptus has emerged swiftly on the European party scene, with the Icelandic artist popping up on line-ups all over the continent. Following releases by Norway’s EOD and fellow Icelandic talent, Lord Pusswhip, ‘Alien Agenda’ is bbbbbb’s third record of the year - continuing Bjarki’s progressive tastes for innovative electronic Scandinavian artists. First up, ‘svi´nasti´a 3000’ deploys a synthetic, fast-pitched techno revolver fused with space- induced, twisted modulations. A scratch tool titled ‘Itchy and Scratchy Show’ follows before launching into ‘Su´rmatur’ - a celestial 303 synth line layered over scattered electro drums, together providing a magical transcendental experience. ‘Alien Agenda’ is suitably an eccentric, IDM tinged number – with shades of acid and powerful bass shrills becoming the focus here. Last up, ‘Misanthropgy (Dark Sto¨ff)’ provides an energetic rolling percussive loop, intensifying naturally through cryptic, high-pitched melodies. More

It is undeniable that Bjarki and his bbbbbb imprint are at the forefront of Iceland’s dance music scene, playing a vital role in asserting the country as a hub for genre bending electronic music. Although the label has proved to be a solid platform for Bjarki’s own experimental material, bbbbbb continues to host some of Iceland’s best talents (notably last year’s lauded release from Volruptus who followed up with another killer outing on ????). For bbbbbb’s 10th release Bjarki continues to substantiate his A&R abilities, introducing the world to Lord Pusswhip. Having enjoyed a meteoric rise as a key player in Iceland’s hip-hop scene, the young producer’s sound has continued to evolve since befriending Bjarki and the bbbbbb crew, and ‘The Hand of Glory EP’ now sees him at arguably his most adventurous and experimental yet. Murky atmospherics introduce ‘xmas jam creep’ before a cacophony of percussion ups the energy, setting the tone for a dynamic release. ‘crazy shit mane’ follows with its crunchy drums, scintillating synths and sultry bass until ‘hop out the car’ blends hip-hop vocals with mesmerising chord sequences reminiscent of Richard D. James’ early work. An undulating bassline then works alongside a chorus of angelic voices in ‘The Hand of Glory, making way for the syncopated and dreamlike ‘shroomm0(u)rning’. Moving into ambient territories, ‘green house living’ layers pads and samples together to generate an otherworldly aesthetic until ‘CHOPPA HARD’ combines ominous drones with a steady beat to conclude the release.
