After collaborating on my film "Les Apparences", I knew he'd be the ideal man for this series. Someone who could make real revue music, like you'd hear at the Paradis Latin or the Alcazar, and who could also be resolutely contemporary, like when the troupe relaxes and dances in a bar to a hit of the moment.

It's a genre that dates back to the thirties, that of the backstage musical, a genre with well-defined codes: the struggle of a collective, a troupe of singers and dancers, to put on a show that, despite a tsunami of obstacles, will end in triumph and reveal a new star. A broad spectrum of films can be linked to this, from "Quarante-deuxième rue" to "Tous en scène", from "Chorus line" to "Trois places pour le vingt-six". And today, the original link in this long chain is the series "Ça, c'est Paris!", in which Marc Fitoussi strips away this tradition, reenchanting it, making it crackle with new energy. In the end, his mission is almost the same as that of his main character, Gaspard Berthille (Alex Lutz), heir to a cabaret, the Tout-Paris, for whom he must invent a present, or rather, a future. To carry out this delicate task, Gaspard Berthille needed an accomplice, invisible on screen: Bertrand Burgalat. His freedom, the way he juggles harmony and tonality, shines through in every measure, as if Marc Fitoussi's subject had triggered something decisive and essential in him.

Bertrand Burgalat's first album 'The Sssound of Mmmusic', also known as TSOM, is released in an expanded reissue, twenty-one years after its first publication, on June 12th 2021 for the Record Store Day. In 2000, Bertrand Burgalat decided to evolve openly by releasing his first solo album 'The Sssound of Mmmusic' which had been in the works since the creation of the label 5 years earlier. The filmmaker behind the project, Albert Serra, and his group of Spanish musicians, Les Molforts, are responsible for the experimental electro-orchestration and staging of a show scheduled for February 22, 2025 at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, which will also be made into a film.

The CD "Heidschi Bumbeidschi, 16 moments de ma vie" will be distributed by Tricatel.

LORD$'s debut album 'Speed It Up' is out on April 26 via Tricatel. LORD$ is a 5-piece band steeped in references ranging from US rap to 70s soft rock, skateboarding to video games, with Rémi Klein on keyboards and vocals, Jay Adams on bass, Zablon on guitar and vocals, Bastien Bonnefont on drums and Gary Haguenauer on guitar.

These formidable instrumentalists have given a handful of concerts, notably at the Petite Halle de la Villette in Paris, one of the hotbeds of the French jazz revival. Tricatel is proud to release for the first time on vinyl the reissue of this album released in 2001. It is a single vinyl with a printed sub-sleeve containing vintage studio photos.
Inspired by Barthes, who wrote that the resistance would probably be one day in the affirmation of happiness, I wanted to write a happy record, so happy that it would be a provocation. So I wanted to sing about love in the naive and poetic language that Portuguese is for me. It is the language of secrecy and modesty, of sensuality and eroticism.
So we recorded Azul in the offices/studios of Tricatel in four days. This album, recorded live after the release of Bertrand Burgalat's first album (The Sssound of Mmmusic, 2000), is a unique testimony of a passionate encounter, of explosive concerts and an exceptional musical adventure, a mixture of soulful rhythms, oniric keyboards and songs with chiseled lyrics and harmonies.

Out of stock on vinyl for decades, it will be reissued and published in December 2022, with a text by Philippe Manœuvre. 21 years after its first publication, it has not aged a bit. It includes tribute covers ("Follow Me" by Amanda Lear, "Tears Of A Clown" by Smokey Robinson), and a version of "Easy Tiger", recorded at the same time for Depeche Mode.

A monumental force firmly rooted in the soul canon, Willie Hutch is most notable for recording two of the best Blaxploitation soundtracks, The Mack and Foxy Brown. Yet his legacy is much greater. Outside of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, Hutch was arguably Motown's top male solo artist of the 70s. Prior to his association with Gordy et al, Hutch crafted his opening statements for RCA, two vital LPs that Be With Records is honoured to present today.

Often-overlooked, his second album Season For Love (1970) is a must for all deep soul fans and has been sought-after by collectors of different stripes for decades. Whereas his debut featured thundering, gritty numbers, Hutch treats us to a mellower soul here - sumptuous, warm and string-led. He compared his approach to that of Otis Redding and there are definite parallels; from the raspy, rough-hewn vocals that tend to roam between sweet and deeply impassioned to the horn-heavy, emphatic sonic backdrops.

With flawless originals presented alongside a few well-chosen classics (his stunning cover of "Wichita Lineman" arguably bests the original's splendour), it's easy to see why sample-based musicians have been falling over themselves to plunder from this album. Witness the sweeping strings that grace "The Magic Of Love" and the heartbreaking "Walking On My Love"; the mellifluous guitar work on the contemplative instrumental "The Shortest Distance" and gorgeous single "When A Boy Falls In Love".

Whilst the arrangements and playing are subtly jaw-dropping throughout, Hutch's uncontrived voice has a certain warmth to match a Nat “King” Cole and a purity of tone that even recalls the great Sam Cooke. Indeed, a few numbers are almost in a jazz vocal territory reminiscent of artists Lou Rawls. That's not to say that others lack the righteous energy and undeniable groove of Willie's later sound.

Remarkably consistent throughout – a rare commodity for many 70s soul albums – the lack of one signature song likely hindered its progress. Regardless, it deserved to make more of an impact and now, paired with the majestic debut, Soul Portrait, these recordings shine a new light on the early work of a soul legend.

Original vinyl copies of this album are extremely rare – and correspondingly expensive – so we’re thrilled to present the first ever vinyl reissue of a true lost classic. Mastered for vinyl by our esteemed engineer Simon Francis. It has been pressed on 180g vinyl for the first time and features the original, rarely seen artwork.

Following a string of releases via his own bbbbbb recors, along with bodies of work on ???? Recordings, February 2019 saw Bjarki debut on !K7 Records with the 'Happy Earthday' album. With the album considered to be the Icelandic producers first full debut LP, 'Happy Earthday' offered a conceptual collection of music which Bjarki thought he would never release. Influenced by his home country of Iceland as well as the planet's environmental issues, the album received support across the board from the likes of The Quietus, DJ Mag, Pitchfork, XLR8R, FACT and CLASH Music, along with being crowned Mixmag's 'Album of The Month'.

As part of the limited edition 200 copy box set version of 'Happy Earthday', a secret album of original music was available to hear unbeknown to listeners. 'Psychotic_Window' is a further extension of the experimental artists creative vision whilst continuing to address environmental themes and nature.

Combining influences from techno, breakbeat, IDM, electronica and more across all of his studio output, 'Psychotic_Window' is Bjarki's final signoff for 2019. The new 14-track album follows in line with one of his most significant years to date, highlighted by performances at major events including Dekmantel and DGTL Festival, along with pioneering eclectic new sounds via his bbbbbb recors label.

We Release Jazz is ecstatic (purrrr!) to announce the official reissue of Hiroshi Suzuki's glorious jazz-fusion-funk Holy Grail Cat (originally released in 1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD. Both versions come with liner notes by Teruo Isono.
Cat was recorded in October 1975 at at Nippon Columbia Studio, while Hiroshi Suzuki was visiting his home country of Japan after moving to Las Vegas in 1971 to play with Buddy Rich and perfect his craft. Back on his old stomping grounds, the man known as Neko (Cat) immediately reunited with his dear friends for an epic two day session of groove magic. The chemistry was still intact. The skills and style had grown.
The result, Cat, is a smooth masterpiece, a deep and soulful affair where stunning trombone solos by Hiroshi Suzuki flirt with Takeru Muraoka's heavenly saxophone and the sensual rhythm section of Hiromasa Suzuki (keyboards), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), and Akira Ishikawa (drums).
Celebrated in jazz collectors circles, in the lofi beat scene, and among music diggers around the world, Cat has become one of the most sought-after Japanese jazz albums of all time and, much like Ryo Fukui's Scenery, has fascinated old and young generations alike.

Kap Bambino's third album, "Blacklist", marks the boldest and bravest moves the duo have made to date. Perhaps the biggest curve ball they could have thrown would be to go pop, which is just what they've done, well, kind of... "Blacklist" is twelve tracks of deranged, maddening melodies and propulsive head-nod rhythms, taking the group's trademark concoctions and placing it amidst a setting that wouldn't look out of place in a stadium or headlining a festival. Caroline's vocals are brought centre stage, never have they sounded so clear, crisp and defiant. Whilst Orion's production alchemy sounds like the work of a regal orchestra of androids, soundtracking an Armageddon-inducing war. The smooth titan of blue-eyed soul, Bobby Caldwell transcended genre tags with consummate ease; he was a musical icon of real class and versatility, cherished the world over.

Here we present two timeless masterpieces of sophisticated jazzy soul brilliance that are strictly canonical.

The originals of these red heart-shaped vinyl records go for stupid money - if you can find one in good condition. Here's your chance to snag a real collectors item for fans of Bobby and, well, LOVE, the world over.

The eternal "What You Won't Do for Love" became a national anthem. It remains that way - perhaps even more so in the past year or two. It perfectly captured Bobby's ability to infuse a contagious groove with introspective and relatable lyrics. With its instantly recognisable horn riff and Caldwell's soulful delivery, this timeless, chiller anthem continues to captivate audiences and define his musical legacy.

A perennial favourite, it has been heavily sampled, such is its unique allure; Aaliyah sang over snatches of it on "Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number" and you can hear Caldwell’s vocal sample used for the hook on Tupac’s posthumously released “Do For Love”.

Bobby's dynamite "Open Your Eyes" was immortalised by the eternal J Dilla in the hip-hop canon with his production of Common’s epochal “The Light,” which heavily samples the magical “Open Your Eyes.” On a post paying tribute to Bobby in March 2023, Questlove claimed that he "got word Brother Bobby loved it". Bobby's original has seen new life even more recently from the likes of Dwele and Kendrick Lamar and deservingly so, as its insistent drums and staccato piano created a modern-soul classic.

WRWTFWW Records is happy to announce the release of Casimir Liberski ReTRio's The Z Suites, a full-length jazz album reinterpreting the music from iconic Nintendo video game series The Legend of Zelda. The epic Z-Jazz journey is available in the following formats: limited edition 180g half speed mastered vinyl double LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve with obi, digipack CD with cavalier, and digital.

Casimir Liberski reimagines the golden era of video game soundtracks with jazz versions of Zelda favorites The Legend of Zelda (1986), A Link to the Past (1991), Link's Awakening (1993), and Oscarina of Time (1998) - plus a few Easter eggs! Dancing between nostalgia and avant-garde, the Brussels-born pianist and composer crafts a sonic world of pixelated folklore where melody and improvisation coexist in harmony.

For many video games are a journey of the mind. Since its inception - dating back to the early seventies - this avant-garde artistic medium has nourished the imaginations of a digital age.
