To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman's redefining acid techno masterpiece, Sheet One, has been mastered from the original tapes and reissued on vinyl via Mute and NovaMute.

Released in 1993 on Mute's subsidiary label NovaMute, this record was the debut for Richie Hawtin's alias Plastikman. 30 years on Sheet One is a landmark album in the field of electronic music, it changed the shape of what the genre could be and became.

Introducing one of techno's most recognisable logos, the album achieved a degree of notoriety for its acid blotter-style perforated artwork. Musically it focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks, with frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago's acid house scene. Hawtin once described Sheet One perfectly in an interview with MusicRadar, saying "...It's music for the end of the party as you're melting into the floor, which is exactly what the name Plastikman was made to represent."

This seminal album helped to establish the template for minimal techno, and is a must listen for lovers of electronic music.

Richie Hawtin's triumphant return to the stage as Plastikman in 2010 proved that his best-known alias is as innovative and as relevant as ever. Hawtin has taken Plastikman's most classic material, originally released between 1993 and 2003, and reworked it for a truly live performance accompanied by mind-bending, synchronized visuals-a sound and light show like no other, one that collapses the distance between present-day festivals and the uncompromisingly underground warehouse parties of the mid '90s. As anticipation builds around Plastikman's forthcoming Arkives box set, Richie Hawtin sneaks up with something we weren't expecting: a new Plastikman single.
If you've heard Hawtin spin this summer, you're going to recognize Slinky as one of the highlights of his set: a blistering acid track that immediately stands out from today's standard-issue bassline techno hits. Ominous and insistent, it corkscrews deep into your brain, digging a wobbly 303 groove and hammering the point home with white-hot 909 snares. It's got all the hallmarks of classic Plastikman, from the octave-jumping acid lines to the white-knuckled, edge-of-your-seat suspense. In terms of intensity, it's right up there with "Glob" and "Spastik"-but, true to its name, it's slinkier and sexier, moving with a grinding, side-winding shuffle. It's quite a tricky business, rhythmically speaking, with unhinged triplet patterns slipping between the cracks of a stomping 4/4 beat. At several crucial points, the downbeat drops out, leaving you unmoored and bobbing dangerously out to sea. It's thrills, chills, and spills galore, and the same goes for the B-side, Monkee, a properly minimalist jungle-drum groove made of dizzily syncopated toms and clean, linear 808 patter. It's a trip into the darkest recesses of the rainforest, complete with the screeching of unknown beasts. And, like "Slinky," the groove works two different ways, with three-against-four pulses tugging your brain in two directions at once. In a word: dizzying. Beyond the obvious impact of both tracks, the single is particularly notable for being the first new Plastikman material since 2005's Nostalgik.2. Or… is it? In the run-up to Arkives, Hawtin has hinted at a trove of unreleased Plastikman material, tracks that have never seen the light of day. Are these tracks part of that bounty? Or are they new expressions of the classic Plastikman style? Hawtin isn't saying-all we know is that they're absolutely devastating.

Reeko, also known as Architectural, with only one release under his Humano-guise, gets picked for its dramatic strings and larger-than-life stabs, slowly building towards a driving momentum, taking on the peak time with style.
The flip sports mainstay Inigo Kennedy, whose original track built heavily on atmospheric IDM-breakbeats, but works just as well with a straight corset issued by Faki, now highlighting the poetic synth work at its core even more.

More unheard edits from Len Faki‘s personal vaults on this release, harking way back to the mid-'90s and their relentless, hard-hitting styles.

Chicago legend Robert Armani, also still hailed as one of the originators of hardstyle by many, makes an appearance on the A-side. And it‘s that characteristic, punishing kick sound, which is still present in the modern edit, carrying on the original‘s obtuse force albeit shrouded in a much more ominous and austere veil.

German IDM-duo Funkstörung well left their mark on the millennium’s last decade. Even with their side-project Musik Aus Strom that restricted itself to a series of forward-pointing, no-nonsense acid-techno albums. Len Faki picks out a track showcasing the raw and vital essence of that Acid Planet-time and molds it into a soaring, sizzling and well-balanced tool, tricky and perky at once.

The A-side is packing heat in form of classic, jacking acid house courtesy of Michael E, whose tracks have that special Ultramajic-sparkle about them but hit with the tight punch and accute precision of a true LF-engineered edit.
Similar goes for the ominous reworks of Litüus‘ experimental synthesis on the flip. Released originally on Shifted‘s Avian label, these heavily modulated analogue sequences merge seemlessy together with Faki‘s metallic percussion.

Twelve takes the A-side for six-minutes of run and gun, vocal playing center sticking to you long after coming home. Bouncy Xpute The Whoop Whoop already was a lot of fun when it first came out ten years ago! But now the LF-Hardspace Edit brings it back in a way which can be easily thrown together with today‘s more linear techno productions. Working as a breath of fresh air, Multiply breaks up the streamlined grid in favor of introducing a softer and more intricately woven and set of Deepspace-grooves.

Revisiting another classic for this issue of Len Faki‘s edits, he chooses Kotai‘s 2002 track BA3 Breathing, a standout-cut for it‘s ringing vocals and ominous bassline rumbles. With the original clocking in at the 10-minute mark already, Faki‘s tribute mix is not much shorter, but manages to fill the spaces between beats with lots of fresh details, lifting the song‘s energy to a new level, while retaining the soft but sexy vibe of Kotai‘s compostion. Tightening up the mix and making away with vocals alltogether, the Hardspace Tool-version then solely puts its focus on busty beats and percussive prowess, staking its claim as contender for bossiest bassline of the night.

This newest installment of the ongoin series presents four very different Hardspace Mixes, each one of which allowing a different shade of Len Faki‘s musical guise to shine through. On Guidance a quick-paced bounce grooves on top of a three-note bassline, suspenseful strings and sensous vox giving the track an unsuspectedly burning itch. Equally smacking, yet both tribal and technoid is his rework of F.E.X‘s Never Give Up, which keeps breaking down in order for the slicing hats to come back in and do their magic. Tackling a current UK-Techno-favorite on the flip, Randomer & Cadans‘ Anchor has got a grimey grind to it, which here gets churned into an even more wicked version of a twisted trip down the rabbit hole. Closing the EP out on a bleeping note, Ribé‘s Outlines is a deep-spacious, echo-laden affair, oscillating in tune and zoning alongside skitting percussives.

Already quite a force to be reckoned with, Faki manages to beef-up the mix even more, adding rumbling bass-weight and injecting some extra steam to make it roll out until the end. On the flip side there‘s the hypnotic groove of Space Taxi. Captivating and enveloping, this mix alters the original signature bass in order to shift gears into what feals like full forward – there‘s no escaping this one! Len Faki takes on a couple of classics for 007 of his ongoing special edits series LFRMX, striking a perfect balance between the old and new.

First up is a tweaked version of Steve Stoll's 1998 LP-excerpt Reciproheat, elegantly edged while carrying the proper weight to move. DJ Shufflemaster's booming Housedust release from the same year however has a wacky tack to its groove, it's mind-bending qualities yet amplified by Faki boiling down the tempo to more current confines.

The flipside goes all deep, starring a rework of Valentino Mora's recent space odyssey. Building upon the original's lively tribal percussion, the prevailent mystical mood is spliced up, readying the track special moments in an otherwise up-tempo-environment. A gently pulsing edit of UBX127's Barabrus eventually puts a meditative and soothing finishing touch to the EP.

Len Faki isn't showing any signs of slowing things down over on his special edits-platform, already lining up the second round of 2018 and thus bringing the catalogue total up to LFRMX006.

Alex Danilov's Inside comes in two new versions here, both of which build upon the Russian producer's trademark filter action, making for a groove that funks as strongly as it remains subtle. First off the charming Deepspace Mix patiently unfolds into crisp breaks and lush strings, followed by a remarkably atmospheric Hardspace Mix, which soon steps it up a notch and gets smacking in order to get that floor chugging away to its choo-choo-chimes.
Meanwhile on the other side, Developer's steaming Lost Moments is treated to an array of additional elements, the outcome sounding razor-sharp and agile as ever, yet still channeling a considerable amount of propulsive force.
