Lauren Lo Sung returns to LOCUS for her ‘Shroom’ EP, accompanied by a remix from Youandewan. Heading up LOLiFE and e1even records while dropping music via PIV, Lazare Hoche, and Rutilance, Liverpool- based Lauren Lo Sung’s blend of stripped-back, groove-heavy house has meant early nods as an artist to watch has seen her flourish into a favourite name within the UK minimal-house realm and beyond. Returning to the label for the first time since her classy ‘Miss B’ EP in 2021, and fresh from a string of worldwide dates, including her latest US and Australian tours, the end of July welcomes a return to FUSE’s sister imprint LOCUS as she serves up a pair of quality cuts across her ‘Shroom’ EP - with The Brain and Pure Shores boss Youandewan making his label debut on remix duties. Setting off via the title track, ‘Shroom’ is a slinking cut built on a rugged bassline and warping low-ends, accented by airy synths and warped vocal interjections for a lively trip. Next, second original ‘Tom & Jerry’ draws for acid stabs, hazy melodies and cosmic tones underneath the track’s alluring vox samples and video game electronics for a vibrant and playful production. Shaping up the package, the B-Side is home to Youandewan’s darker and chunky take on the lead cut, combining oddball electronics, snaking grooves, off-key interludes and neon synths for a trademark offering. One of the UK’s most exciting house talents, gaining stand out praise from Mixmag and DJ Mag to name just a few, Liverpool-based DJ and producer Lauren Lo Sung has established herself as one of the scene’s most in-demand ‘new names’ of recent years. With releases to date via the likes of Vatos Locos, Lazare Hoche Records and Rutilance, alongside her own blossoming imprints LOLiFE and e1even Records, her groove-laden sound has seen grace the decks across a host of renowned hotspots from Space Ibiza to Club der Visionaere, and her sharp ascent is most certainly showing no signs of slowing. After yet another impressive twelve months, 2021 welcomes her debut on London’s flourishing LOCUS as she reveals her ‘Miss B’ EP this February – backed by a remix from bubbling Italian talent KOKO, who returns having dropped the launch EP on the label. Title cut ‘Miss B’ kicks things off in a warping fashion as spiralling synths and fluttering vocal interjections meet skittering drums to offer up lively EP opener, whilst ‘Cosmic Flow’ introduces further tripped-out vocal effects atop of dubby chords and paired back, refined percussion. Next up, KOKO’s hazy and energetic take on the title cut showcases the Italian’s slick and infectious sound palette, before the aptly titled ‘B-Side The Point’ closes proceedings as Lo Sung opts for bubbling basslines, hypnotic atmospherics and snaking percussion arrangements throughout a groove-heavy peak-time closer. At the tail end of the '90s, Gregory Darsa played around with a number of pseudonyms before finally settling on his now familiar DJ Gregory alias. One of those abandoned aliases was Headcore. It was used for a single EP back in 1998, released on Chateau Flight's label, Versatile (then in it's' infancy). Here, that EP gets a welcome reissue. It's aged rather well, with all four tracks - explorations of deep house themes with occasional nods to the dubby, African-influenced style Darsa would later explore on the Africanism project - sounding as fresh now as they did 16 years ago. Picking highlights is tricky, but we're particularly enjoyed the sparse, swinging dub-house of "Cage" (accompanied with a tasty drum dub) and the Chez Damier-influenced chug of "In & Out".

2014 continues in funky style with the latest release from one of Paris' finest purveyors of high quality underground electronic music. After January's powerful 'Width' EP, by Mandar, we 're proud to unveil the 'Minesis' EP from one of the French capital's most talented and diverse artists, S3A (Sampling As An Art) AKA Max Fader. S3A showcases his deep seated love for soul and house on this excellent five-track release, which as always is vinyl-only. Fader's appreciation of the traditions of electronic music are clear to hear throughout these smooth, organic productions. He's a man who values his 1210s just as much as his classic drum machines and this is clearly evident from the start with 'For Danilo' which blends diva-esque vocals with a rolling disco groove and nineties rave stabs to create an unforgettable vibe. 'Deep Into Amsterdam' takes us into jazzy deep house territory, with a slightly muted soulful vocal layered below smooth, bright keys and a solid set of percussion. On the flip 'Discofonk' continues to celebrate the era of funk and disco in supreme style, aiming straight for your hips and sending them into overdrive. S3A demonstrates his dexterity with the 2-minute hip hop beat on 'Piano Interlude' before we get more of that sleazy, blaxploitation atmosphere on 'Dirty Sampling Insomnia'.

Lazare Hoche Records push forward into 2014 with a brand new three-track EP from the collective known as Mandar. The three-man crew is made up of Lazare Hoche himself, along with his good friends Danish producer Samuel Andre Madsen and Dutchman Malin Genie. Those familiar with Lazare Hoche Records will recall that Mandar have already appeared on the label on I Don't Sync So Vol.II with 'Fouad' and 'St Eustache'. The 'Width' EP is the product of their continued working relationship; late-night studio sessions fueled by junk food, analogue gear and their combined passion for music that comes from the heart and soul. Across three tracks we witness the trio bear their souls on a collection of raw, uncomprimising music that refuses to subscribe to the latest trends. There is no bandwagon jumping here, just pure unadulterated club music. Take A-side 'Naughty Mandar' for instance, with its stripped down, barely there percussion and unrelenting bassline which trembles below softly swirling pads. In the background lurks the hushed whispers of a male vocal revealing his love for house music, it's dark and melancholy yet instilled with a feeling of hope. Title track 'Width' wastes no time in providing some bounce, kicking off with an energy which is maintained from start to finish. Sharp snares cut through celestial pads and jovial analogue stabs provide a bright juxtaposition to the morose bassline. Fresh from the release of their very first LP, here's an ultra rare repress coming from mid-nineties USA via one of the Paris finest new labels, Lazare Hoche Records. The bossman himself Lazare Hoche is an avid collector of rare house joints, and has a penchant for anything the truly epitomises the spirit of house music; raw, undiluted and full of funk. Unlike some collectors who never reveal their secrets, Lazare Hoche decided to share his knowledge of those hard-to-find tracks of the past with this new release, and so acquired the license for three tracks by the cult duo Nimbus Quartet grouping them all together in a special vinyl-only reissue. Nimbus Quartet was the short-lived partnership between Dave Stevens and acid legend Woody McBride. Between them they created gold dust, the kind of pure, unadulterated house music that sounds as fresh today as it did almost 20 years ago when it was first released. Although they only released two double 12inches on the legendary US based Sounds Records, those albums remain classics to this day. So it was only right that they be reissued for a whole new generation of house connoisseurs to enjoy. Strictly for the heads, we present the quirky "Later Lover", "Mouch Touch' with its classic guitar riff finish and the 12-minute masterpiece, "Your House Is Yours Part II&III".
