2014 continues in funky style with the latest release from one of Paris' finest purveyors of high quality underground electronic music. After January's powerful 'Width' EP, by Mandar, we 're proud to unveil the 'Minesis' EP from one of the French capital's most talented and diverse artists, S3A (Sampling As An Art) AKA Max Fader. S3A showcases his deep seated love for soul and house on this excellent five-track release, which as always is vinyl-only. Fader's appreciation of the traditions of electronic music are clear to hear throughout these smooth, organic productions. He's a man who values his 1210s just as much as his classic drum machines and this is clearly evident from the start with 'For Danilo' which blends diva-esque vocals with a rolling disco groove and nineties rave stabs to create an unforgettable vibe. 'Deep Into Amsterdam' takes us into jazzy deep house territory, with a slightly muted soulful vocal layered below smooth, bright keys and a solid set of percussion. On the flip 'Discofonk' continues to celebrate the era of funk and disco in supreme style, aiming straight for your hips and sending them into overdrive. S3A demonstrates his dexterity with the 2-minute hip hop beat on 'Piano Interlude' before we get more of that sleazy, blaxploitation atmosphere on 'Dirty Sampling Insomnia'.

Lazare Hoche Records push forward into 2014 with a brand new three-track EP from the collective known as Mandar. The three-man crew is made up of Lazare Hoche himself, along with his good friends Danish producer Samuel Andre Madsen and Dutchman Malin Genie. Those familiar with Lazare Hoche Records will recall that Mandar have already appeared on the label on I Don't Sync So Vol.II with 'Fouad' and 'St Eustache'. The 'Width' EP is the product of their continued working relationship; late-night studio sessions fueled by junk food, analogue gear and their combined passion for music that comes from the heart and soul. Across three tracks we witness the trio bear their souls on a collection of raw, uncomprimising music that refuses to subscribe to the latest trends. There is no bandwagon jumping here, just pure unadulterated club music. Take A-side 'Naughty Mandar' for instance, with its stripped down, barely there percussion and unrelenting bassline which trembles below softly swirling pads. In the background lurks the hushed whispers of a male vocal revealing his love for house music, it's dark and melancholy yet instilled with a feeling of hope. Title track 'Width' wastes no time in providing some bounce, kicking off with an energy which is maintained from start to finish. Sharp snares cut through celestial pads and jovial analogue stabs provide a bright juxtaposition to the morose bassline. Fresh from the release of their very first LP, here's an ultra rare repress coming from mid-nineties USA via one of the Paris finest new labels, Lazare Hoche Records. The bossman himself Lazare Hoche is an avid collector of rare house joints, and has a penchant for anything the truly epitomises the spirit of house music; raw, undiluted and full of funk. Unlike some collectors who never reveal their secrets, Lazare Hoche decided to share his knowledge of those hard-to-find tracks of the past with this new release, and so acquired the license for three tracks by the cult duo Nimbus Quartet grouping them all together in a special vinyl-only reissue. Nimbus Quartet was the short-lived partnership between Dave Stevens and acid legend Woody McBride. Between them they created gold dust, the kind of pure, unadulterated house music that sounds as fresh today as it did almost 20 years ago when it was first released. Although they only released two double 12inches on the legendary US based Sounds Records, those albums remain classics to this day. So it was only right that they be reissued for a whole new generation of house connoisseurs to enjoy. Strictly for the heads, we present the quirky "Later Lover", "Mouch Touch' with its classic guitar riff finish and the 12-minute masterpiece, "Your House Is Yours Part II&III".
