Release Info:
A heaven-made match is now complete with Gerry Read’s debut EP for Pampa Records. The British producer’s distinctively twisted, lo-fi sound, combined with Pampa’s deep-vein instinct for quality quirks, ushers in a new phase for two of house music’s most celebrated names.
The opening bars of “It’ll All Be Over” are immediately evocative, hinting at the patchwork style to come. Twangy banjo strings and a foot-stomp beat seem to herald a folksy arrangement, but that isn’t to be. Soft floaty pads rise up to form an unlikely partnership, softening sharp edges and adding sophisticated melodic expression. Once a compressed vocal sample is introduced, the entire structure reveals itself and begins to spin and loop in the style of iconic French house productions. Propelled further along by the endearing drama of flooded bass drum kicks, falsetto voices and xylophone pings, “It’ll All Be Over” is immediately memorable and expertly architectured.
Read’s second cut, “Satyricon,” is woven in the spirit of micro-house. Sharp waveform cuts, timely pauses, loops of noodling keys and hints of percussion shakers combine for a low-slung psychedelic effect. With the sunniness of a vintage folk-pop sample and sultry snatches of Spanish dialogue added atop a deep mid-tempo shuffle, Read secures his place alongside the Bradocks and Leclairs who came before him.
On the flipside, Pampa’s figurehead takes an expert turn at the controls of “It’ll All Be Over (DJ Koze remix).” The original’s jagged edges are buffed out, and shined up into a gleaming disco house anthem. With its artfully timed strumming breakdowns and cowbell accents, it is an appetising teaser of the forthcoming summer.

Short Info:
North London-by-way-of-Suffolk soundsmith Gerry Read delivers his first release for Circus
Company with the Lean on Something EP. After countless examples of his bold production moves
on many of our brother and sister labels including Herbert’s Accidental Jr to more recently on Koze’s
Pampa Records, Read has always displayed a kindred spirit mindset to ours in his adventurous
musical angles, and we are very happy to present this particular set of rock-solid and uniquely
diverse pieces.
The title track “Lean on Something” starts things off in fine and classic Read form, with knocking
found-sound percussion, fizzing textures and slick use of chopped and disorienting vocal sample
bits, as the track layers unfold into a whimsical and wondrous melodic stargazing anthem. “Wooer
at the Well” then follows and picks up the tempo with those fly live acoustic drum lines that gives
Gerry’s tracks that special beyond-electronic feeling, while once again the deft layering of such a
rich sound palette builds and builds giving other mavericks like Four Tet a sincere run for their
money. The mood then brilliantly shifts on the next track “Paramol”, where Read treats us to an
almost Robotnik-era Italo sprinkling amidst his otherwise forward-thinking club floor-filling
tendencies, with an amazing array of synth sections and an arrangement that should satisfy even
the neo-purists out there amongst us. Finally, “Risotto” wraps up the proceedings with a warm,
jazzy bouncer reminiscent of both Read’s as well as our own catalog’s charming early offerings,
and a kind of landing-at-home-base sensation with smoky cubist funk feelings and an equal parts
rough-yet-undeniably cool effervescent groove. More

Gerry Read steps up for the sophomore release on Finn’s 2 B REAL label, Mass Media - four booty-indebted house tracks, as freaky as they are straight-forward. The A side lurches into action with a huge buzzy bassline on Mass Media, followed by eerie pads, pops and whistles on Big Boobs. The B side provides some breathing room with Dreama That Girl’s spacey chops and sauntering bassline, before Pinky reaches a bouncy filter-house climax to close the EP.

Tracklist EP: A1. Shrubb A2. Shrubby (Redshape's Not So Serious mix) B1. Zig Zag B2. 'Shrubby (Redshape's Disco Scope mix
At the age of just 21, Gerry Read has already worked with an exceptional cross-section of record labels including 2nd Drop, Delsin and Ramp's sub-label, Fourth Wave. With a formidable
back catalogue of EPs and two albums to his name, the prolific producer steps up for another rough and ready release on Aus Music. Gerry's approach to writing music is never pretentious or over-complicated, having carved out a name for himself with a spread of stilted house grooves. 'Shrubby' continues in a similar vein to this earlier material, with unpolished beats and unaffected production. His unique sounds are part influenced by playing the drums for over 9 years, "the 'knackered' sound…comes by itself from me using old recordings of me playing the drums…using this shit skype mic." Don't let these carefree techniques fool you, as big on the dancefloor as your headphones; everyone from Ben Sims to Deetron to Ben Pearce has championed his introverted 12"s.
Providing the sauce on top, Redshape remixes the original' twice over, with his "Disco Scope" and "Not So Serious Mix." With a similar attention to drums and raw sounds, the two remixes arm up what is an already strong release.

The now 20 year old Suffolk lad has turned worldwide House phenomenon in an incredibly short amount of time. His raw edged EP's for the RAMP Recordings sublabel Fourth Wave in 2011 were hard to categorise, and even harder to forget. 2012 has been even more rewarding for the young producer, with the peak time disco house throwback track '90?s Prostitution Racket' and the ridiculous 'Demolition Man' collaboration with Kevin McPhee cementing his reputation as a hit machine. Gerry followed this by releasing his rough and tumble 'Yeah Come Dance' EP with Techno institution Delsin, to similar global effect.

Not only is this EP Gerry Read?s debut association with Delsin, but so too does it mark the launch of a new house-focussed series from the Dutch imprint. Mysterious and 19 year old Read had quite the year in 2011. On Ramp sub-label Fourth Wave he unleashed a trilogy of EPs which toyed with a rough and ready house and techno template, sampling anything and everything and chucking it all together into sketchy yet essential tracks which made you feel, think AND dance. This new four-tracker "Yeh Come Dance" feels like a natural continuation for the auspicious producer. The title track explores dusty and rusty loops of drums, vocals and wooden hits all of which are held together with a knackered jazzy glue. 'Crawlspace' on the other hand is a foggy gaggle of kicks, drums, hi-hats and cowbells coated in plenty of hiss and crackle. 'Bozza' again demonstrates Read's ability to produce something that sounds two decades old yet wholly contemporary at the same time. Chord prods here, raw hits there, jazzy motifs buried within ? it?s house music designed for cosy little basements in the dead of night where 'Crooked' is more in yer face. The loops in this one are more exposed and loud in the mix, but still feel unmistakably elliptical and raw... house music never sounded more fresh.

10 years since the last installment, Herbert returns to the seminal Parts series synonymous with his trailblazing work in leftfield house music that began with Part One nearly 30 years ago.
It features the first of a series of pieces written with, and sung by artist, producer and drummer Momoko Gill (fka Metta Shiba and performer with Tirzah, Coby Sey, Alabaster de Plume amongst others).
Part 9is the first in a planned resurgence of forthcoming Herbert releases, withPart 10lined up for later in 2024 and his seventh album under this moniker slated for early next year. More

Wishmountain - Walk
One of Matthew Herbert's more demented, concrète-technoid aliases, Wishmountain gives up its first album in a decade - think Pierre Bastien meets Thomas Brinkmann at a DIY store. Back in the late '90s Wishmountain 'fessed to the tuffer side of Herbert's concrète house principles and was a key part of the movement toward minimal techno that endured for many years after. 'Stonework: 1000 metres down' pits Herbert back in the minimal techno mines to hammer out 10 hypnotic, jiggly rhythmelodic workouts full of barebones but colourful percussion and mechanically recalled electronics that patently manifest Herbert's innovative ear for intriguing sounds and knack for drivingly playful, club-ready arrangements. Made for close listening as well as harder working DJs who like to get busy with long blends and the EQ's, a familiar palette of foley-like tones subtly shift permutations of tempo and pattern in the album's cyclical carousel. The panel-beating canter of 'Tap' and clipped tattoo of 'Tool' hail why Wishmountain's work has long been name-checked by everyone form Ancient Methods to Pangaea, while the offbeat swang and grind of 'Headrush' and experimental trample of 'Dig' or the lo-slung swang of 'Deep' join dots between Brinkmann and likes of Kirk Barkey's Bambooman. The best, however, is saved for last with the nine minute 'Walk' evoking analogs to Muslimgauze's more locked-in, tripped-out, unyielding loop-based tekkerz in its Arabic-toned drums and atmospheric workshop noise.

Jerome Hill - "Bleeper"
Following his debut on the label with last year’s ‘The Pob Routine’, Jerome Hill returns to AccidentalJnr with another absolute stonker of a release which we’ll let him describe in his own words...
“After my last EP for Jnr I spoke with label boss Matthew Herbert and he challenged me to write a track for the next EP, containing only sounds I'd recorded 'in the wild'. I was about to spend a little time on an organic Vegetable farming co-op just outside Munich, 'Kartoffel Kombinat' which I'd previously nicknamed Potato Land, so I brought my recorder and during my stay made lots of recordings, carrots being bitten and snapped, various gardening tools clattering around, voices and even the big tombola-like machine that cleans the freshly picked vegetables. The resulting track was Potatoland and the only non-organic noise in it is the kick. Various 'Potatoland’ elements also make guest appearances in the other tracks, although they are less easy to spot.
'Quibble’, was also written specifically for the label and was influenced by Herbert who I've been a huge fan of for decades... I wanted to make something suitably wobbly and humorous that shuffles along but then really slams when the kick comes in. Add in the Dance Mania influenced ‘Chicken’ and the final track ‘Bleeper’ and that's the EP... Very happy to be back!!” More

Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Jnr imprint are back with their second release of the year, this time inviting rising London based star Third Son into the fold. The Polymath label boss has been causing quite a stir in the house music scene with releases for 17 Steps, Skint and Sincopat as well as clocking up remix credits for among others Marc Romboy and Maya Jane Coles (under her Nocturnal Sunshine alias).
‘Bag O’ Bones’ opens up proceedings with its clattering toybox percussion, throbbing kick drums and dissonant lead stabs. The track has a brittle, dry quality to it, but Third Son’s ear for the dance floor is clear as the arrangement smoothly rolls along at firm a pace. More of the same is served up in ‘Chime Salad’, with layers upon layers of wonky, shifting percussion, building up into a tower of sound that feels as though it should come crumbling down, but somehow always stands firm.
The B1 ‘Phase Of Going Through Life’ brings the energy back down to earth with its slightly sparser arrangement and clips of bird songs, while still maintaining the off kilter pace of the previous pieces. The record then closes with the feel-good club work out, ‘The Brain Named Itself’, where we find Third Son administering a last-minute, sharp injection of groove. The dissonant synths that opened the record are replaced by brilliant, euphoric chord sweeps and pounding drums that are sure to move any dancefloor. More

The Accidental Jnr label has just passed it’s second birthday mark… so at 2 years and 15 releases in it only seems appropriate for the next 12” release to come from the artist that kicked the label off and has made it his home for the past 2 years… Bambooman, with a remix from label boss Matthew Herbert himself on the b-side. The track can really speak for itself as this one is something special for the dancefloor, the only difficulty is choosing which version to play...
