Up first is The Drifter and he turns out what may be his best remix to date with a swelling, emotional ride that will most definitely be an anthem for the coming summer. Taking a different approach, yet just as engaging, Ruede reworks his original into a dark, looping psychedelic odyssey perfect for late nights or early mornings. Can Love Be Synth rounds out the remixes with a gorgeous Pop-esque twist on the original choosing to focus on live instrumentation and retro synthesis resulting in a cross-over favorite. With this, it seemed obvious to put Ruede up to his next task: an album. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we bring you the first LP for both Ruede and Watergate Records, Apophenia. Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data, and for Ruede, this is the perfect interpretation to describe his writing process, in which ideas appear from the empty, chaotic darkness. A random chord progression or percussion arrangement opens the door to the imagination where structures appear and begin to take shape. Unlike most of his previous work, Apophenia is not strictly attached to the dance floor, but created to fit just as seamless while listening at home as it is in the club. For over a year, Ruede collected ideas and visualized his plan. It was important not to mimic his earlier work, but to focus on a certain sound. While staying minimalistic yet extremely organic and melodic he has created a timeless long player. While the LP spans a range of emotions, it is always grounded in Ruede's unparalleled, singular sound. Pair that with some notable features from artists like PillowTalk, Hollis P. Monroe & Overnite, Justin Evans and C.A.R. and you have a plethora of dazzling music. With tracks like "Moon Rabbit", "Life Is A Beach" and "Found A Place" Ruede displays the sound of a night at the club while "Already Undone feat. With the build up to the highly anticipated debut album for both Ruede Hagelstein and Watergate Records nearing it's release date, we have put together an advanced release of the original Ruede track 'Soul Dynamic' including some stunning remixes to get you ready. With the original, Ruede does what he does best and administers a big melodic club hit ripe with canorous shimmers and a warm rolling sub bass bolstered by crisp percussion grooves and a vocal persistently muttering 'Soul Dynamic'. This alone should be enough, but we didn't stop there. Up first on remix duties, and without any introduction is the legendary Kenny Larkin. Coming off his massive remix of La Fleur on Watergate last year, he takes the same approach and lays out a long,
tracky version of the original, building tension over the twelve minutes with ghostly rhodes riffs and eerie strings. Possibly the heaviest of the all the remixes is from Fur Coat as they provide us with a dark, strobe light infused adaptation packed with huge bass stabs and spectral tones. Finally, we have another whose name needs no introduction, Douglas Greed. With his version of 'Soul Dynamic' he takes the most playful approach of the three remixes by creating a hypnotic, looping lead laid over earthy percussive lines and a sweltering wash of keys. No matter what you're looking for, one of these will do the trick. It's not so much which one to play, but which one to play first.

The slat blinds in Berlin's Panorama Bar are part of the VJ's equipment, and when the mood is right (usually around Sunday afternoon), he opens them up to allow slices of sunshine to penetrate the smoky club air. It doesn't happen all too often, remaining something special amongst hours of darkness. But as Ruede played the first version of "Shades" in his last P-Bar set, it seemed to happen just for him, as if he had written this track's distinct break especially for this moment: everyone was mesmerized. Re.You & Rampa with a RMX for "Shades" are also no strangers to such euphoria, and as Ruede recently lent them his voice, they return the favor by building a robust, custom-made bass mobile for the A2. Then, on the B-side, Ruede's fellow band members from The Noblettes make an appearance. As with "Shades", the focal point is also the big break, only this one has nothing to do with techno - it's more of an indie-house ballad with dance ambition. More

Who am I ? That's what Ruede Hagelstein asks himself when he looks at the reflection in the mirror every morning when he gets up. Then the image goes into the studio and produces tracks for Upon You for him. Well 20 catalogue numbers and three "The Cheapers" releases later, our Ruede Hagelstein dares to perform a solo dance on Upon You. In this case- a chair dance. The name "Reise nach Jerusalem" stands for the game moving chairs that Ruede still remembers from his east German child hood.The principles of the track will be recognized by those who know the game. To all others the A1 side will appear to be a mean techno pusher. "Aron Habrit" also surprises the inclined listener with unexpected curves of tension but still remains on the house ground of reality and digs like "Levithan" towards the thick underbrush of pre-christian mythology that Ruede seemed to in any way have heard of in one of those Brandenburg Kibbuzes. It's a turbulent time for underground dance music. While many DJs and labels obsess over repeating an old skool house sound, Souvenir #9 replies with a provocative glimpse of the future. Ruede Hagelstein has been making a name for himself as Berliner to watch out for since his first EP in 2004. Since then he's been attracting praise from DJs like Claude Von Stroke and Laurent Garnier and catching the ears of Souvenir bosses Ali and Basti from Tiefschwarz with records like his acclaimed Ghostdriver EP in 2007. 'The Modest Theme' is slice of epic and chilling tech house. Its opening track, builds shimmering string instruments around a sonic jungle of machine noise. From this soup of futuristic rhythms a colossal horn hook beams out from the track like a lighthouse in the distance on a black as hell, gale whipped night. House or techno rarely comes as dramatic as this and its accompanying tracks add fuel to these insistent, urgent themes. Ruede's remix of Dillon's 'C Unseen Sea' gathers ghostly surging wind noises and the eerie effects-soaked sounds of a child together with foreboding percussion. Perfect for orchestrating that point in a night when the music locks a crowd into a tense, dramatic groove, it's carried along at the midway of the track by an off kilter synth that bounces in and out of key taking the sanity of any discerning dancefloor with it. The final track 'It's On' picks up the pace of the EP for a bustling finale. A 303 style bassline opens and filters closed throughout the track raising the tension and releasing the pressure while unsettling synths and reverb soaked percussion continue the mysterious, surreal vibe of the EP. Gorje Hewek follows up last year’s impressive ‘Life EP’, with a new 5-track package brimming with

The artist is a mainstay of the All Day I Dream collective and a master of intricately woven electronic
compositions, which also transfix the dancefloor. For his return contribution to Watergate Records he brings
a string of cohorts in toe – Dulus, Polo & Molac from his excellent Shanti Records imprint, alongside ADID
affiliate Roy Rosenfeld and Argentinean great Cattaeno.
The opener ‘Altitude’ is a dreamy bass-driven heater that unfolds beautifully over an eight-minute period
and is highlighted by a key driven melody that’s both playful and emotive. ‘Astro World’ is an eclectic slice
of organic house that captivates with a string-laden break before dropping down into a rhythmic second
half. The EP’s title track is a silky sunset cut resplendent with twinkling pads that has enough groove to
seduce a dusty dancefloor. ‘Vida’ begins life as a slinky percussive jam, before the dam breaks and a
colourful river of melody drives the track home. A delight. ‘Kaleidoscope’ stays true to its name driven by a

Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’ gets a respectful touch-up 25 years on courtesy of
the Adana Twins.
The German duo come strong with a pair of remixes, fit for two very different dancefloor scenarios. The
first a smart, stripped back breakbeat version that switches from a sparse percussive soundscape to the
famous acid warbles, before introducing undulating retro trance synths to the composition for a headmelting finish. Remix Two is a driving, four-to-the-floor, rave-focused affair that builds up the 303s with

8Kays delivers an inspiring label debut on Watergate Records, as the artistic project of Ukrainian sound-producer and live act Iryna Shvydka reinforces why there’s so much excitement surrounding her with the slick ‘Falling Down’ EP.
A collaborative rich EP, 8Kays links with Italian pair Glowal for the punchy ‘Matemática’, that brings plenty of eerie minor key vibes to the dancefloor thanks to the vocal contribution from Brasilian singer Abrão. ‘Falling Down’ sees 8Kays team up with the Buenos Aires-based producer and live act Juan Hansen for a captivating slice of electronic prog lit up by Hansen’s memorable vox and delicate strings. One for those special end-of-night moments.
Dutch pair Colyn & Beswerda suit up ‘Falling Down’ for a different occasion, adding a tougher backbone, while teasing out all the melodic flourishes to craft a remix that’s functional and stunning in equal doses. Woo York - supreme electronic music duo make their debut on Watergate Records.
The Ukrainian duo have a watertight reputation for crafting stunning dancefloor compositions, having
released music on Life And Death, Soma, Dystopian, Drumcode and Afterlife, the latter home to their
critically acclaimed 2018 album ‘Chasing the Dream’. Their appearances at Watergate have been numerous
over the years, making them an obvious choice to join the label family.
Their Watergate Records debut maiden offering is sparkling. The title track begins as a chugging key-laden
cut before a stirring folky melody rises to the fore with beautiful intent. With its unique sonic signature,
‘Samum’ will stand out in any set. Woo York show a new side of their outstanding musical talent “For this
release we wanted to push boundaries of the melodic techno sound. For Samum we have worked with a
bag pipe, one of the oldest instruments to give the track an almost „housy" note.”
The accompanier is ‘Prophet’, an emotional slice of dance music, hopeful and melancholic in equal doses,
this is custom made for big dancefloor moments.

Sasha continues to make this year his own as he drops his debut EP on Watergate, 'GameOvr'. The EP features two original tracks, including the long-awaited 'Trigonometry', and first class remixes from Cassy and La Fleur. After his recent critically acclaimed sell-out live shows at the Barbican and his 'Out Of Time' EP on Kompakt, not to mention gearing up for his RESISTANCE residency with John Digweed in Ibiza, Sasha officially confirms his debut release on Watergate Records. 'Trigonometry' has been a highlight in Sasha's sets in recent months and has sparked many a heated debate online, from excited pleas for a Track ID, to urgent demands for a release date. A vital collective member and resident, JAMIIE steps up for her long-awaited debut EP on Watergate Records.
The artist has been a regular at the club stretching back to 2016, when she joined RISE, the Afro House collective that
runs monthly residencies at Watergate. Despite this, JAMIIE has always gone her own way sonically, exploring deeper
house and melodic tones, alongside the Afro influences.
A constant at Oberbaumbrücke spot during the 2020/2021, she, along with Kristin Velvet were the beating hearts of the
club, hosting the Watergate Worldwide streams every week. This year has been a standout for her playing
Tomorrowland, Exit Festival and supporting Solomun at Watergate, among many other highlights.
Following up label contributions which include ‘Suwedi’, with Niko Schwind that featured on Hyenah’s ‘Watergate 27’
compilation and the fantastic ‘Echoes’ on ‘Watergate 20’ due out November 2020, we’re treated to a generous five-track
package for her maiden EP outing on Watergate Records.
Beginning life during a summer-time sketch session in bed (her favourite spot to start new creative ideas), ‘Voices’ is an
emotive weapon, driven by a captivating synth lead, and chunky Afro-infused bottom end. "’Voices’" is mysterious and is
inspired by our thoughts, our inner voice,” JAMIIE shares. “There’s something truly mysterious and remarkable about our
inner voice, the means by which we make ourselves aware of who we are and what we think and even feel. Our inner
voice is very powerful. It can lift us up and weigh us down. It also makes decisions for us, even when sometimes we
don’t want to listen to it.”
‘Unfold Me’ is a glorious end-of-night future classic, as grandiose synths rub shoulders with beautiful bass melodies,
before a delicate key interlude gives JAMIIE the opportunity to build the energy right back up again. “This has a personal
meaning and again, has to do with the journey inwards to discovered ourselves. Like many other people I am an
extroverted introvert. I think we can be quite confusing and peculiar to others. On the one hand, social and outgoing; on
the other, very guarded, selective and hard to get to know. So, it needs time to unfold the layers to understand an
extrovert introvert person, if they should let you in,” she explains.
The originals are complemented by a trio of tight remixes chosen by JAMIIE, from three artists close to her heart:
Portuguese Afro Tech producer DJEFF delivers a blissfully silky re-work of ‘Voices’; Italian artist Malandra Jr., whose
most notably released on Diynamic, crafts a chugging and cosmic reinterpretation of the title track, while Stil Vor Talent’s
Annett Gapstream sends ‘Unfold Me’ on a dreamy orbit skywards. More

unreleased tracks exclusive to the compilation. From Sasha to Anja Schneider, Henrik Schwarz and
Adana Twins, right through to the ascendent names such as JAMIIE, Kristin Velvet, JOPLYN and
Biesmans, the compilation is an exhilarating snapshot of some of the artists who have shaped Watergate’s
sound; both via the label and through laying down unforgettable sets at the club over a two-decade period.
The highlight heavy compilation charts a course throughout all the deep, dark, euphoric, tech and even
pop-laden corners of house music. Henrik Schwarz navigates a classic course via the vibey ‘You Need
Attitude’, while JOPLYN brings soaring melodies and arresting vox with ‘Lima’. Biesmans is in
characteristic sleek form with the sparkling nostalgic-soaked business of ‘Basic Bro’, before emerging stars
Mia Mendi contribute a driving electro jam ‘Astromech’.
The iconic Anja Schneider is an essential addition. The Berlin icon brings her A-Game with the big piano
chords and gospel vocals of ‘Can’t You See Me No More’ before handing the baton to Extrawelt who
comes strong with a delicious micro house serenade ‘Rover’. Sasha weaves a trademark masterful beast
with ‘Wolf Cider, a dark and twisted weapon that’s packed with plenty of groove and low-end attitude. First
premiered during her excellent Boiler Room session in 2019, Kristin Velvet’s ‘Wanted Competition’ is a
propulsive gem that reinforces her position as one of the most exciting breakout producers of the last two
years.
Adana Twins are always on-point and they don’t disappoint with ‘Nacht’ a deviant, distorted house tool the
belongs in every DJ’s back pocket. Matthias Meyer & Ryan Davis enjoy a superlative history on Watergate
Records and share another ace ‘Genki’, a shimmering, drama-laden piece that morphs into a tougher psyladen finish. New Watergate Agency signing DJEFF crafts an uplifting string-laden ace with ‘Cloud 7,
showing off his impressive musicianship along the way, while Hyenah make an essential contribution with
the funky key-driven houser ‘Going in Circles’. Club resident JAMIIE shares the wicked ‘Echoes’, which is
pacey and hypnotizing in equal measures and brought to life by colourful arpeggios and a latticework of key
patterns. The project rounds out on a stunning note with ‘Tone Trails’, a lilting slice of electronica by
Watergate stalwart Marco Resmann & Lee Jones, which is inflected with organic guitar and dreamy

Biesmans will mix the next volume of Watergate’s prestigious mix series, following in the
footsteps of Ellen Allien, Solomun, Jimi Jules and WhoMadeWho. Going above and beyond
the standard mix compilation brief, the Belgian artist has produced a work consisting
entirely of his own original productions. The project also features collaborations with a
diverse range of artists including Dusky, Mathew Jonson, Adana Twins and Kasper Bjørke,
alongside rising talent such as Shubostar and Mala Ika.
We got our most significant taste of what a special and unique artist Biesmans is last year, with
the release of ‘Trains, Planes & Automobiles’, his superb debut LP. This wasn’t any ordinary album
project, however. Rather, he set himself the task of completing three tracks per week, pairing theaudio with vintage ‘80s film and video clips, sharing the creations to his Instagram followers as he
went along.
Since this point, he’s gone on to develop a live PA, tour it to places including Exit Festival and
Fusion Festival and become a pivotal artist on the W-Agency roster, after already being a solid
member of the club’s crew having worked there as a technician for around 8 years.
His next impressive career stride is ‘Watergate 28’, a joyful neon dancefloor trip that takes in
synthwave, indie dance, nu disco and all manner of celestial tracks in the house spectrum. It’s
also the first Watergate compilation since dOP’s in 2012 to take on the mammoth challenge of
producing all original and exclusive material for the project. An unofficial album per se, with the
thrilling arc of soundtracking a hiplashing on Watergate’s iconic Main Floor.
The scene was set in Mexico in February 2022. The call came through from Watergate HQ and the
deadline was tight: deliver a volume of the club’s esteemed mix series within a three-month
window, the brief stipulating that the mix should have four originals and two collaborations.
Biesmans went sober for a three-month period so he could give everything he had to the project,
swapping the lunchtime beers for sport sessions. When he arrived back in Berlin in mid-February
ready to begin studio time, he was in the zone and immediately begun work completing a sketch
on ‘Smooth Monday’, the track that would go onto to be his luminescent collaboration with the
Permanent Vacation-backed Zombies In Miami. Two weeks into his studio time, it was clear there
was more than enough quality material to not only fulfill, but smash Watergate’s original brief.
What followed was no less than 17 original tracks and 13 collaborations – arguably the most
ambitious in Watergate’s compilation history.
Already in touch after releasing on their imprint 17 Steps in 2019, he sent three sketches to Dusky
and the nostalgia-soaked ‘Back in the Daze’ was the shimmering result. The vibes flowed like a
dream when he linked with Kid Simius for the funky nu disco gem ‘Me Gusta Acid’, even
recording Kid’s vocals in one-take. A visit to his hero Mathew Jonson’s studio for the day saw the
birth of the pumping piano-laden houser ‘Quantum Computing’, a project highlight. After bonding
over their shared love of cosmic synths in Tulum this year, Biesmans invited South Korean artist
Shubostar into his studio to create the wavy ‘80s inspired creation ‘Across the Universe’.
Biesmans likewise mined inspiration wherever he went, his track ‘March for Peace’ was created
off the back of attending a rally to support Ukraine.
Biesmans pieced together each track like a jigsaw puzzle, building up sonic moods throughout.
“Sometimes I would do three tracks in one day, or set specific moods. For example, if someone
sent me some powerful chords, then I decided to do an intro track with that. Then I started to put
some artists together like a puzzle, connecting the artist with the position in the mix.”
The resulting mix is an exhilarating technicolour journey. From the immense opener ‘Away’ with
one half of dOP’s Vandesande, to the woozy arpeggiated bliss of ‘Holiday’ with Kasper Bjørke and
the synth-drenched breakbeat euphoria of the Biesmans solo cut ‘All Day Every Day’, it’s a
highlight-heavy 78-minute ride.
“Even though this is (sort of) another album, the concept is definitely different. I've approached
this project as a DJ mix. When I record a podcast or mixtape, I like to take the listener on a
journey. Starting of beatless and moving slowly into the party/dancing mood. I also felt that I had
to step away from the album sound of last year. I don't want to keep on repeating myself, but I still
have a love for synth sounds so it was important to explore new territory with these elements. The
collaboration part made it also a super interesting project in which you already get inspired by
whoever you work with. I also think that speed played a big role in this project, the whole thing
was done in less than 3 months.” - Biesmans

Rising UK duo Mia Mendi returns for their second outing on Watergate Records with the retro-tinged
Robosynapse EP.
The label debut of Mia Mendi was a notable 2021 highlight for the Oberbaumbrücke imprint. Titled 'Ubi’, the
EP was a collaboration with Thomas Gandey and demonstrated their full-bodied dancefloor approach,
injecting their unique sound signature into a modern progressive house palette.
‘Robosynapse’ is no less exciting (or fun). The title track is a plump nu wave houser, driven by soaring retro
synths, a gutsy electro bassline and an 80s guitar solo. ‘Simulated Reality’ buzzes and hums, seven minutes
of emotional electro and crispy drumlines, before handing the baton to ‘Cyborg String’, which continues the
dreamy throwdown.
Alan Dixon makes his first contribution to Watergate Records and re-fashions ‘Robosynapse’ into a glistening
cosmic-tinged beast, amplifying the focus on the guitar lead. Fresh off her label debut with the excellent
‘Mind Control’ EP, Henri Bergmann makes a welcome return to re-work ‘Simulated Reality’ into a powerful

Blazing newcomer Henri Bergmann makes her full EP debut on Watergate Records with the captivating ‘Mind Control’ EP.
Building a buzz via impressive releases on her label Automatik, the Londoner has picked up support from
everyone from Dixon, Solomun and Maceo Plex. Indeed, mention the Dodi Palese Remix remix of her track
‘Protection’ to any clued-up melodic house fan and you’re likely to be met with a blissed-out response, so
beloved was the cut, which also ended up in Tale of Clubs’ top 10 for 2021.
Her maiden voyage on the Oberbaumbrücke home label is a tour de force of chugging house that
encompasses new wave, electro and progressive elements, with a strong cast of collaborators and remixes
along the way.
Pushing herself creatively during the lockdown, this EP is the first time we’ve heard Henri utilise her voice on
her own productions, and the resulting work is a treat. The title track is a team-up with Biesmans who brings
his distinct retro sound signature to the track, while Henri’s vox elevates it to another level. ‘Our Time Has
Come’ is a punchy dancefloor gem propelled by her own vocals and a classy psychedelic synth line. ‘We
Just Keep On Going’ brings bags of robotic soul to the table, as Henri’s husband Wennink takes to the
vocoder, alongside a mystical lead melody. Stephan Jolk returns to the label following his excellent
‘Freedom’ EP in April, re-working ‘Mind Control’ into a muscular weapon. Meanwhile Echonomist, who is
notable for his appearance on WhoMadeWho’s Watergate 26 compilation, also takes his hand to the title
track, re-fashioning it into a tough bass-driven electro cut that’s beautiful and brain-scrambling in equal
doses.
