ENERGY 52 - Café Del Mar (Michael Mayer Remix)
GENRE/S:
Progressive House, Techno, Trance, Breaks
TRACKLISTS:
A. Café Del Mar (Orbital Remix)
B. Café Del Mar (Michael Mayer Remix)
SHORT INFO:
Energy 52's Café Del Mar is one of the most iconic tracks in dance music. Over the years, Café Del Mar has achieved legendary status, regularly featuring in lists of the greatest dance tracks of all time. To put it simply, Café Del Mar is a cultural phenomenon, encapsulating the spirit of an era and influencing generations of artists and fans alike.
Now this iconic track is being remixed by two of the most revered acts in electronic music, Orbital and Michael Mayer. Orbital, the pioneering British electronic dance duo consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, have continued to shape the electronic music scene since their emergence in 1989. Their remix is an ode to the golden age of rave, with clattering breakbeats and an ethereal synth line pulsing through its early stages before the iconic lead warps into view. A key figure in Cologne's electronic scene, Michael Mayer co-founded the influential Kompakt label, contributing significantly to its direction and success. For his interpretation, Mayer leans into head spinning, hypnotic rhythms, with tribal drums and the patiently evolving lead line building towards a climax that is more subtle but no less effective.

SHORT INFO:
Energy 52’s Café Del Mar has come to represent the most euphoric and hedonistic pleasures of dancefloors - in Ibiza and all around the world - and has been remixed by some of the biggest names in electronic music. Known for its infectious melody and its strong impact on dancefloors around the globe it charted multiple times around the world and won countless awards. Now, 30 years after its first original release, Superstition Records issues a new series of releases, with brand new remixes as well as some of the many remixes from across the last three decades.
The third part in the series features remixes by Tale Of Us and Paul van Dyk, some of the most prolific electronic producers and DJs. Their “Renaissance Remix” was first released in 2018 and has already become one of the most popular remixes of Café Del Mar.
DJ Kid Paul and Paul van Dyk were close DJ buddies in the early Berlin Techno scene, and played around a hundred DJ gigs together, all around Germany and Europe, before they moved on in different directions. Now nearly 30 years later Paul van Dyk finally got the chance to remix the iconic Café del Mar. His XOXO remix slows the tempo slightly and employs crisp percussion and deep, pulsing bass while still maintaining the out-and-out exhilaration of that epic breakdown. Originally released in 2021, the Paul van Dyk remix appears here on vinyl for the first time.

The timeless classic that is Energy 52's 'Cafe Del Mar', first released in 1993, has been rejuvenated and re-invented with 2 brand new remixes from Germany's leading beat scientist Ricardo Villalobos.
Mysterious like a deserted bay at midnight, and blissful like the balmy white sands of ibiza's hidden beaches, Ricardo's main mix snakes and meanders over 9 minutes of pure minimalist magic. Filtering and reducing the original's main theme and bass pattern, a purely electronic interpretation is formed with ultra deep kick drums, and silky, woody textured percussion.
Two mixes are included here; Ricardo's main remix introduces the main synth theme, bubbling teasingly throughout. The dub mix focuses on the pulsing bassline, while gentle and subtle harmonic elements float underneath the warm staccato beats. Ricardo Villalobos is surely one of the heroes of the modern electronic world, so it's a rather special moment indeed when he has a chance to remix one of the shining dance classics of the 90s.

Mephisto - State of Mind (Gorgon City Renaissance Remix)
2
Mephisto - State of Mind (Quiet Mix)
The undeniable flagship of Renaissance Records, a ReMix Collection is always an event when it lands; so, as festival season begins, and we turn the corner into summer, what musical news could be better? And it really is news. In keeping with the ReMix Collection ethos of inviting the biggest and best to rework undeniable Renaissance classics, which to date has included Solomun, Tale Of Us, Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Patrice Bäumel and Yotto, the label were delighted to secure the services of Gorgon City to provide their take on one of the earliest, most immediate classics - Mephisto’s ‘State Of Mind’. Released in 1992, ’State Of Mind (Quiet Mix)’ was a standout during Renaissance formative years at their legendary Venue 44 home in Mansfield. Its classic status was further compounded 18 months later when Sasha and John Digweed included it on the ‘Mix Collection Vol.1’ and introduced it to the ears of the wider world. It was, and is, an Italian house classic, which stands out through its deft piano riff, wobbly female vox and THAT spoken word - ‘music with more muscles’. Gorgon City’s Renaissance Remix wastes no time with its update. Continuing the style and sound Kye and Matt established with ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘Ahora Todo Va’, the track is a deep, peak time monster that injects bass, an unforgettable acid mid and deep horns to dramatic effect.
“We’ve been fans of the ReMix Collection so didn’t hesitate to take ‘State Of Mind’”, they confirm, “the signature parts of the track are legendary. We had real fun knitting them into a tougher, contemporary sound.” More

Power Circle - Garden Of Peace (Yotto Remix)
2
Power Circle - Garden Of Peace (Shakra Mix)
Yes, after a hiatus of 15 months, The ReMix Collection makes a highly anticipated return as Yotto steps up to take on the Shakra Mix of Power Circle’s ‘Garden Of Peace’. Originally released in 1993, the track was an immediate Renaissance anthem, finding favour with all their key DJs. However, it became synonymous with one man in particular, namely, John Digweed, who cemented the track’s legendary status when he included it on his Journeys By DJ compilation the following year. Even today he’s been known to slide it into the mix, most recently episode 10 of his legendary Bunker streams. And the track has other contemporary fans too; a certain Mr. Plex was heard dropping it in 2020. In short, it’s one of those records that’s stood the test of time and grown in stature year on year. Now, its evolution takes yet another step as it joins the ranks of Renaissance’ flagship ReMix Collection series. Yotto’s modern interpretation is a high-octane juxtaposition of thunderous bass, rising pads and THAT vocal. ”Garden Of Peace is a record I missed first time around as a kid and had only heard on a mix, never knowing what it was, so when Renaissance approached me about a remix there was a strange sense of familiarity,” he explains, “The original is full of classic progressive house mystery and, while I took the whole thing apart, I wanted to keep that emotion with my interpretation.” On the B-side there’s a re-mastered cut of the original Shakra Mix, which isn’t released digitally and remains exclusive to vinyl only.

With two standout singles under their belt, Fur Coat now deliver their highly anticipated 12 track album, ‘Polyphony’… ‘Polyphony’ is a term specifically chosen by Fur Coat to emphasise the celebratory concept behind their new album. “Firstly, poly means many, and we are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year,” explains Sergio, “so it was important we reflected that milestone in some way. Beyond that we wanted to create a project with many layers that captures the perfect spectrum, ranging from experimental sounds through to more familiar dancefloor tracks. Whether blending a cinematic feeling, infectious groove, indie vocal or slower BPM electronica, we used multiple layers and patterns to create a textured, forward thinking soundscape. ‘Polyphony’ really does say it all in a single word.” To further the theme of ‘many’, Sergio and Israel also open up their studio, inviting friends in. From the haunting, indie beauty of ‘Hurricane’ with Running Pine (already a Beatport chart topper), to infectious melodies created alongside Julian Wasserman, Hunter/Game and Sly Faux, or Delhia De France’s seductive vocals, the duo generously and effectively demonstrate the benefit of collaboration. This is not to say their dedicated compositions should be overlooked, quite the opposite, which they are rightfully proud to point out, “This is our second album and we really wanted to deliver something that showed our musical influences and the evolution of the Fur Coat sound. We’ve come a long way in the past decade, with many more years yet to come - the future is undoubtedly polyphonic!”

BLANCAh - Face Of Your Love
There are few, if any, artists currently working in electronic music to match BLANCAh’s talent and versatility. Whether it’s DJing, singing live (often during her own sets) or producing, her creative cup constantly overflows, which is why she has become one of South America’s breakout stars with a CV that includes some of the world’s most renowned platforms. From releases on Steyoyoke, Movement, and Lost On You; touring the globe or holding residencies at two of the world’s most famous clubs (Brazil’s Warung and D-Edge), BLANCAh is proof-positive cream always rises. Now, following two acclaimed releases with Renaissance, ‘Cold Lights’ and ‘Walk In Clouds’, BLANCAh presents her second studio album ‘Arias Of Sky’. Dance isn’t a genre that’s embraced the album format as a rule, but with ‘Arias Of Sky’ BLANCAh has undoubtedly delivered a body of music that doesn’t so much challenge the status quo as rip-up the rule book. It’s a showcase that deftly balances melodic electronica with her club roots as she explains, “Arias is a true labour of love that took months to produce. I consciously shifted my sound to create an emotive soundscape that people will hopefully listen and dance to in equal measure.” Opening with her spoken word on ‘Afago’, the album progresses from downbeat beauty to haunting club anthems, taking in a myriad of influences along the way; if Kate Bush’s ‘A Sky Of Honey’ went to a Brazilian nightclub this would arguably be the resulting love child. Finally, it’s only fitting such a creative album offer DJs and listeners creative options as to how they want to listen to it, something BLANCAh was keen to provide. “Although I completed the album the job was far from done”, she explains, “I decided to offer it in 3 different formats, the original versions, extended mixes and a continuous mix as if it were a DJ set in its own right. With the latter I even created three exclusive ‘INTERLUDES’ to help with the transitions and flow. It’s a very personal journey that represents my strange and wonderful take on the world. I hope people enjoy it.” TRACK LISTINGf: A1. Afago ,A2. Flying River, B1. Cumulonimbus, B2. Ocaso, C1. Vast Blue Sky, C2. Sombra Das Pequenas Coisas, D1. Alvorada, D2. The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Camille Luciani Mix)

The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Camille Luciani Dub)
One of the most talked about remixes of 2019 gets an official release as Camille Luciani’s stunning rework of The Temper Trap’s 2008 global hit ’Sweet Disposition’ comes out on Renaissance Records / BMG on 13 December. Camille Luciani, one of France’s brightest new dance talents, creates a stirring and highly atmospheric update of the Australian indie rock outfit’s seminal 2008 anthem, which has achieved cult status in recent years, featuring in the film ‘(500) Days of Summer’ and clocking over 260 million streams on Spotify alone. “I’d been a fan of the band for more than 10 years”, explains Camille, “Their music was always there for me; one day I just decided to give them something in return and chose Sweet Disposition, which is a timeless track that I always wanted to bring my vision to. So, initially it was more for fun than an official release. It was only after sending it to Dougy and Lorenzo - the band themselves - that things began to develop. I’m delighted it’s now getting an official release.” The remix takes the listener on an emotional journey, emphasising the brooding percussion alongside clever layering of the blissful vocal. The poignant piano refrain and swirling, intense beats result in a beautiful, yet powerful reinvention, perfect for peak-time dance-floors, which has already received many ID requests on social media. Major support has come from globally-renowned duo Tale Of Us who have played it as their closing track on many of the world’s biggest stages, including Printworks London, Gashouder Amsterdam and Ushuaïa Ibiza, each time receiving a euphoric, ‘hands in the air’ crowd reaction.

mr. lee - I Can't Forget (Club Mix)
One of the early big records in the UK that preceded the acid house mania that followed in 1988 and Mr. Lee's first in a string of releases on Trax. Adonis recalls bumping into Mr. Lee in the street: "What's up with you, Adonis?" and I said, "Oh man, I got a record out. I'm doin' house music and makin' money at it." The next time I saw him, he was sayin', "Hey man, I got a record out too!" 'I Can't Forget' features a more spoken word delivery in comparison to his later productions where he'd retooled and become a rapper (of sorts).

INFO
Robert Hood's techno and Femi Kuti's Afrobeat intertwine in a new form where jazz-grooves reign supreme. For the fourth season of La Compagnie des Indes & Sourdoreille "Variations" live series of creations for France TV, the duo were united around the singer and producer James Brown, performing a tribute to the legendary Godfather of Soul who passed away in 2006. This "Variations" album is the live recording of this unique collaboration and performance, capturing a very special moment in time.
The evening witnessed a meeting of two icons in their own genres: one with synths and drum machines, the other on saxophone: Robert Hood and Femi Kuti embody excellence in their respective fields and the pair combined to make something truly unique, soulful, funky and spontaneous. Recorded in one 30+ minute take, "Variations" is embellished by Femi's exquisitely free-flowing yet restrained saxophone, whilst Hood anchors the groove with layers of pads and kicks with the long-time mastery of a true DJ.
Alongside Jeff Mills and Mad Mike, Hood is one of the original members of Detroit techno group Underground Resistance. His style is characterised by minimalist and experimental tones with an assertive groove. Throughout the '90s, he helped pave the way for techno to flourish - giving birth to minimal techno with his seminal album "Minimal Nation". Since then, he has been consistently forwarding electronic music culture with ground-breaking productions, sensational performances and his M-Plant label.
Alongside him, Femi Kuti takes on every musical style with his saxophone, which he plays with a virtuoso touch: pop, soul, electronic music and Afrobeat, of which he is one of the leading exponents. The son of Afrobeat singer and political activist Fela Kuti, he has inherited his father's zeal for both music and activism, where he continues to highlight the plight of most Nigerians living conditions in the oil rich state.
With "Variations" the duo capture an explosive combination on a special night in Paris 4 years ago, November 2019, filmed at the ADP Group headquarters (Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - Roissy).
"It is so amazing when a vision comes to fruition. I enjoyed collaborating with the legendary Femi Kuti for this special project." [Robert Hood] More

Bored Lord - So In Luv
T4T LUV NRG presents “The Last Illusion,” an ep of four bass-heavy and powerfully emotional tracks by Oakland-based artist Bored Lord. All of these songs are proper hardcore house tracks in her unique style, pressed loud and built out of love between queer and trans people...the same love we use to survive. The label fell in love with Bored Lord’s work after Eris and Maya (Octo Octa) played with her at a queer warehouse rave in L.A. What they saw in this unique artist was an energetic sibling, a DJ with the ability to use music and magic (“illusion” here an ecstatic technique) to set bodies free. The first song “Everyday 2gether” conveys the triumph of togetherness with airy stabs and cutting breaks that make dancers drill down hard while they sway. The second song “GNC NRG” is a tunnel of an acid track, meant for building GNC energy on dancefloors and in those bodies ready to receive the message. “Woman’s Wisdom”, the third song, is a full-on psychedelic banger cast from Bored Lord’s lived-experience of using chaos to both destroy and create. The e.p.’s closing song “So In Luv” revels in love’s intoxication with its hard mid-tempo breaks and gorgeously lifting pads. The cover art by Periwinkle Lamb and the title of the ep are inspired by the book “The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions” along with its accompanying illustrations. (L. Mitchell, ill. N. Asta 1977). “The Last Illusion” is available on 12” vinyl and for digital download from the label’s Bandcamp and at fine music stores.

4. SHORT INFO:
Singer, songwriter and author Ali Sethi had been entranced by Jaar's music long before they began collaborating. He'd absorbed the sounds over a number of years, listening casually and taking in their subtleties in bars and rooftop parties across Lahore and London. "It felt familiar to me, that sense of adventure you have when you hear his music, like a tale that teases you and plays with your expectations as it unfolds," says Sethi. "In that sense it resembled the leisurely improvised ghazals and qawwalis I grew up hearing in Pakistan." So when the two were finally introduced by Indian visual artist Somnath Bhatt, a regular Jaar collaborator who also handled the album's artwork, Sethi was well prepared. He began to sketch out voice notes using loops snipped from Jaar's acclaimed 2020 album 'Telas', improvising vocalizations and seductive Urdu poems over Jaar's weightless, time-bending productions. Jaar was astonished by the result; "It was what 'Telas' had been missing," he explains.
Improvisation has been important to the Chilean artist for many years. Before he had even started making electronic music, Jaar jammed on accordion with friends on the street in New York City. It's at the core of his practice, "a moment in time," in his own words. 'Intiha', the opening track on the album, is the first they finished together, and positions Sethi's evocative phrases over Jaar's faded, metallic percussion. It's a perfect proof of concept, re- imagining the world of 'Telas' and augmenting it with a sense of ancestral melancholy and giddy euphoria that's truly transformational.
Sethi is best known globally for his attempts to revive the ghazal, an ancient poetic form that was taken by Sufi mystics from the Arab world to Persia and throughout the Indian subcontinent, where it captivated the royal court. It's been unfashionable in the last few decades, a mannered style associated with decadence, and Sethi offers it a new lease of life through his playfully revisionist covers and renditions. (His most popular single 'Pasoori' is a global phenomenon, one of the most Googled songs of 2022, with hundreds of millions of listeners tuning into its timeless message of forbidden love.) Sethi updates the ghazal form by using his years of training in raga music, lifting metaphors that reflect his journey as an out-of- place queer kid in Pakistan who became a US citizen and now lives in New York City.
