For their second installment, the Chateau Chepere crew brings on board legendary producer Stephan Laubner under his STL moniker, with four time warping pieces of music. With his distinctive and intricate sonic palette, Laubner extracts from his hardware different musical colors and shapes to produce singular atmospheres. Opening up the EP is Fly Fly, an epic 11 min minimal house trip full of tension and excitement, followed by Eargrind, an eerie, laid back Detroit leaning ballad. On the flip is Light Up, a spaced out, playful and bittersweet number that will revitalize any hazy after-hours dancefloor. Echocord welcomes the return of STL this May with the ‘Take Off Music’ EP, comprised of three murky, dubbed out cuts from the acclaimed German producer. Stephan Laubner, better known as STL has long been one of the most respected producers in the underground electronic music scene. Racking up releases on the likes of Smallville, Perlon, Echospace [Detroit], his own Something and of course Echocord where he returns here. ‘Fluxxy’ leads on the package, embracing STL’s signature style via, dusty analogue drums, choppy dub stabs, penetrating low end flutters and airy atmospherics before ‘Dub Plus’ lays focus on a stripped-back, perfectly balanced drum groove, hazy field recordings and bubbling chord delays and bell chime synths. ‘Magic Thing’ then rounds out the release, fusing fm synth melodies and gritty bass stab sequences with thunderous subs and Laubner’s robust rhythmic style. The inimitable STL makes a welcome return to Echocord this May with a new three-track EP in the shape of ‘Take Your Seats’. Stephan Laubner, better known to most as simply as STL is highly regarded for his unique twist on dubbed out house and techno sounds and has been responsible for some underground anthems such as the lauded ‘Silent State’ on Smallville Records and other material on the likes of Perlon, Echospace [Detroit] and ofcourse his own Something imprint. Here though we see him returning to Echocord following 2015’s ‘Message Of Sound’ Part 1 & 2 EP’s with yet more mind- altering murky cuts. ‘Lost Harbour’ leads on the package with textural field recordings, crunchy distorted rhythms and an amalgamation of snaking bass, synth and piano lines, intertwining and unfolding throughout. ‘Mr Sinister’ switches the vibes over to menacing bass swells, fluttering subs, gritty percussion and an underlying tension before ‘Sensimilla’ edges into more ethereal territory with spiralling dub chords, shuffled hats and winding atmospherics.

The sounds from the original composition become doors / gates… stepping stones for me to travel into this very moment and investigate how it is always changing (that changing being me).
I start working with the sounds… looping, playing, shaping… like a ceramist working with the clay, a painter working with the brush and paint, or the baker working with the dough. This process becomes a mantra; a meditation, and my studio becomes filled with sounds and rhythms… echoes from the original song, filtered by this very moment, temporary passing through "someone" being called Sebastian Mullaert or Wa Wu We.
Expression taking place and there are "NO MORE WORDS". Music becomes being, just Being.
STL is one of my absolute favorite artists, this specific invitation felt very special to me and the journey around the creation of the remix has been very deep.

Solar Phenomena welcomes singular rhythm master STL for a new EP that offers four fantastic tracks of dubby house. It is the label's fourth release and finds the Something label boss in a typically inventive mood. First track 'Spy vs Spy' opens things with shuffling drum loops and eerie synth details that hypnotises over seven minutes. 'Atomsmasha' has wooden hits and rough shakers peppering a soft, imperfect groove as awkward chords bring an unhinged edge to the mix. On the flip, 'Summer Breeze & Brotherhood' has loose keys doing an off kilter dance over STL's trademark low-key drums where 'Freebird' zones you out with long held chords and detuned keys as cloudy, dusty kicks bring a barely-there groove deep down low. The selector this time for Synthetic Gold Records is the acclaimed producer STL, who has put together a personal selection of some of his own favourite works, some special memories, and as is characteristic with his own label's releases - Something Records - this record has a mix of material, starting with the atmospherics of 'Just Imagine', before going straight into the legendary dancefloor groover 'The Taphead'. The Aside is then concluded by the mellow classic 'October Sunrise'. The Bside starts with an old and little known gem 'Syntax Error'. This is followed by two beatless offerings, the beautiful dub vibes of 'Disconnected' before the peaceful synths of 'Testkrach'. Finally we are treated to three locked grooves, which have been an ever present part of STL's releases over the years, and here we have three most magical. A very welcome selection, and for those new to STL, a great introduction.

Expression taking place and there are "NO MORE WORDS". Music becomes being, just Being.
STL is one of my absolute favorite artists, this specific invitation felt very special to me and the journey around the creation of the remix has been very deep.

Amirali enters 2018 with grand plans for the future. He is currently conceptualising a live stage show whilst
continuing to provide a platform for all manner of weird and wonderful music.
‘Odyssey’ is a striking example of Amirali’s penchant for songwriting, as well as a testament to his sonic identity,
merging memorable harmonies with heartfelt vocals and complex soundscapes. ‘Hidden Past’ veers more towards
the dancefloor, brandishing vast sonic explorations and levitating pads amongst detailed drum patterns. For the
‘Hidden Past’ remix, Fort Romeau mutates the delicacy of the original into a spaced out dose of peak time house,
gradually building rich harmonies around a fierce rhythmic motif.
On the creation of this forthcoming EP, Amirali states:
"Nothing is more important than my craft which is the main reason I’m here. There’s no better satisfaction than to
create an amazing piece of music, that’s my happiest point in life. I don’t want my work to just be good or ok and that
takes a lot of effort and sacrifice in life. I got to a point where I said to myself I have to go and disappear for a while,
go be normal and do normal things. Instead of being on the road all the time, stay home, create an environment I
like to write music. There have been many experimentations involved in my upcoming material. I wanted to try and
push myself to the limit and I believe I've succeeded. For me, it’s all about evolving and exploring areas I haven't
touched. That’s why sometimes it takes a bit longer than expected, I don’t just want to meet people’s expectations,
sometimes I want to blow them away. There is so much music coming out week in and week out, the music is
evidently becoming more disposable and I would like to stay out of that chaos. When you stay true to your heart and
try to do something different you put yourself in an uncomfortable situation, that’s when you grow as an artist and
also as a person, but the satisfaction you get when you finish a work cannot be put into words.”

Dark Matters is proud to announce it's fourth release, Chromatic Dreams, courtesy of label boss Amirali. With his avant-garde concoction of electronica, techno and house, the EP is constructed of two original tracks and one remix; courtesy of Midnight Operator, the duo made up of Mathew Jonson and his brother, Nathan. This is Amirali's first sonic exercise on the label since the debut release, Fearful Stay. The first track on the compilation "Chromatic Dreams" is skilfully executed, keeping the dark and psychedelic vibe that Dark Matters is becoming known for. It has dreamy vocals that echo with 80's synth and a drum pattern that is reminiscent of techno. The breakdown creates a whirlpool of different associations, the depth of the bass and stutter of the overlaying synths is a mesmerising mixture. “Maladaptive Lover" is built on synth melodies that give the track a spacey vibe. David Bowie played a big part in Amirali's creative inspiration, this track is an eccentric ode to the space man, a modern and dark underground pop interpretation of Bowie's influences, the eccentric, the dreamy and the avant-garde. Midnight Operator's remix of "Maladaptive Lover" reinvents the track, the most dance-floor ready cut of the EP. The dreamy energy, although maintained in the synth patterns is now much more intense. The melody drives forward and doesn't linger in self contemplation as Amirali's original tracks do. The vocals soar through the machine bleeps and faltering high end, tumbling into a crescendo.

Aboutface is firstly a composer/live performer and secondly a DJ, hailing from East London he steps up for the next release on Amirali's newly founded imprint Dark Matters. Drawing upon both the sociological and environmental landscape as creative inspiration, Aboutface uses his background in fine art and painting to help inform his productions. All the last three years music has been inspired by a thousand mile plus journey through Eastern Europe and around the coastal regions of the UK; each song using the environmental recordings of a different region or city as the creative starting point. He says "I like to combine field recording, acoustic and analogue sounds to articulate small stories in each song. My creative influences range from Pierre Schaeffer, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Claude Debussy, through to James Holden, Four Tet and Boards of Canada. The complexity and broad fields of influence are evident in The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding. The EP is made up of three tracks, The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding is a meandering and laid back percussive track whilst My Benevolent Shackle exudes a darker intensity. Lastly Tin Man steps up for a remix of The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding adding more frenetic energy to the track and upping the pace. Aboutface's compositions are intelligent, and with a debut album planned for next year slotting into the eclectic Dark Matters' growing roster, the future looks bright.

Having recently released his first album in over 10 years, Matthew Dear AKA Audion boldly steps up to the mantle and stamps his intelligent techno sound all over 'Amael' in the first of our remixes. Cutting a sprightly pace from the off, Audion melts stuttering sine waves and bulging tones over concrete beats, tweaking in the original organ riff and fathoms deep pads whilst adding additional vocal refrains as he playfully teases the arrangement before dropping a superb riff in his 'Backward Melody' Remix, which takes a most psychedelic and unexpected twist!
Two other musical heavyweights collaborate on the second of the remixes; Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler are no studio strangers, having released a joint project on the British Hypercolour label last year, and remixed for Tiga a few months back. Their LSOS LOVE/GOD Remix builds from ambient beginnings, save for a rhythm carved out of spongy electronics, a sturdy beat kicking in and setting the controls destination unknown, as the duo steer through breathy vocal cuts and propelling bass, stripping the remix back before leaping back into hyperspace with some adventurous and dubbed out vibes, before coming back down for landing with those unmistakable pads from Luciano's original.

Two other musical heavyweights collaborate on the second of the remixes; Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler are no studio strangers, having released a joint project on the British Hypercolour label last year, and remixed for Tiga a few months back. Their LSOS LOVE/GOD Remix builds from ambient beginnings, save for a rhythm carved out of spongy electronics, a sturdy beat kicking in and setting the controls destination unknown, as the duo steer through breathy vocal cuts and propelling bass, stripping the remix back before leaping back into hyperspace with some adventurous and dubbed out vibes, before coming back down for landing with those unmistakable pads from Luciano's original.
A fitting remix package that brings together four of the electronic music scene's most dynamic talents, Luciano's music is given that extra special touch by respected and like minded individuals that will continue it's work on the more discerning dancefloors this Autumn.

It's been 10 years since Pomegranates - Nicolás Jaar's unofficial/alternative soundtrack to
Sergei Parajanov's 1969 film The Color of Pomegranates - was first released, and to highlight
this occasion we are reissuing the album on vinyl, with the first edition (a collaboration with
the label Mana) having long been out of print.
Longer and slower-releasing than his other albums, Pomegranates often parallels the
cinematic epic on which it’s based, with ideas pursued over long timelines and
across dark landscapes, assembling elements and moods from the aesthetic and folkloric
landscapes of Armenia. Jaar’s identity is perceived within this, folding in his heritage as
Palestinian and Chilean as he attempts to build a musical architecture outwards that frames
as much of the mess and sprawl of life as possible; using a language that investigates the
movement and fluctuation of his own artistic career and character similarly to the film’s tracing
of the coming of age of the young poet, Sayat-Nova.
At times, Pomegranates feels profoundly intimate, as though looking through the archive of a
friend’s music and discovering the accent and common currency that lives within each of
these tracks. Much of Jaar’s most elegant and touching melodic work is nestled here, its
power residing in its simplicity and willingness to speak to the heart and not the mind of the
listener.
In the text document included in the first freely distributed version of the album in 2015, Jaar
writes that the album was conceived during a moment of change, and that the pomegranate
became an icon that heralded that passage of time. The physical publication of Pomegranates
closes one door whilst opening another, keeping promises and marking a significant point in
the career of an artist who restlessly reinvents himself, with a document that illustrates a
common language of lyricism, freedom, and emotional resonance linking his many paths and
