Amirali - Hidden Past (Fort Romeau Remix)
Tracklist:
01 Odyssey
02 Hidden Past
03 Hidden Past (Fort Romeau Remix)
Info:
Dark Matters label head Amirali returns with the expertly crafted Odyssey EP, employing his vital understanding of
space and texture to construct a highly emotive release featuring a remix from Fort Romeau. The three track
package is out digitally on May 14th followed by the vinyl release a few weeks later.
Leading on from his critically acclaimed discography and curatorial work with the inimitable Dark Matters imprint,
Amirali enters 2018 with grand plans for the future. He is currently conceptualising a live stage show whilst
continuing to provide a platform for all manner of weird and wonderful music.
‘Odyssey’ is a striking example of Amirali’s penchant for songwriting, as well as a testament to his sonic identity,
merging memorable harmonies with heartfelt vocals and complex soundscapes. ‘Hidden Past’ veers more towards
the dancefloor, brandishing vast sonic explorations and levitating pads amongst detailed drum patterns. For the
‘Hidden Past’ remix, Fort Romeau mutates the delicacy of the original into a spaced out dose of peak time house,
gradually building rich harmonies around a fierce rhythmic motif.
On the creation of this forthcoming EP, Amirali states:
"Nothing is more important than my craft which is the main reason I’m here. There’s no better satisfaction than to
create an amazing piece of music, that’s my happiest point in life. I don’t want my work to just be good or ok and that
takes a lot of effort and sacrifice in life. I got to a point where I said to myself I have to go and disappear for a while,
go be normal and do normal things. Instead of being on the road all the time, stay home, create an environment I
like to write music. There have been many experimentations involved in my upcoming material. I wanted to try and
push myself to the limit and I believe I've succeeded. For me, it’s all about evolving and exploring areas I haven't
touched. That’s why sometimes it takes a bit longer than expected, I don’t just want to meet people’s expectations,
sometimes I want to blow them away. There is so much music coming out week in and week out, the music is
evidently becoming more disposable and I would like to stay out of that chaos. When you stay true to your heart and
try to do something different you put yourself in an uncomfortable situation, that’s when you grow as an artist and
also as a person, but the satisfaction you get when you finish a work cannot be put into words.” More

Dark Matters is proud to announce it's fourth release, Chromatic Dreams, courtesy of label boss Amirali. With his avant-garde concoction of electronica, techno and house, the EP is constructed of two original tracks and one remix; courtesy of Midnight Operator, the duo made up of Mathew Jonson and his brother, Nathan. This is Amirali's first sonic exercise on the label since the debut release, Fearful Stay. The first track on the compilation "Chromatic Dreams" is skilfully executed, keeping the dark and psychedelic vibe that Dark Matters is becoming known for. It has dreamy vocals that echo with 80's synth and a drum pattern that is reminiscent of techno. The breakdown creates a whirlpool of different associations, the depth of the bass and stutter of the overlaying synths is a mesmerising mixture. “Maladaptive Lover" is built on synth melodies that give the track a spacey vibe. David Bowie played a big part in Amirali's creative inspiration, this track is an eccentric ode to the space man, a modern and dark underground pop interpretation of Bowie's influences, the eccentric, the dreamy and the avant-garde. Midnight Operator's remix of "Maladaptive Lover" reinvents the track, the most dance-floor ready cut of the EP. The dreamy energy, although maintained in the synth patterns is now much more intense. The melody drives forward and doesn't linger in self contemplation as Amirali's original tracks do. The vocals soar through the machine bleeps and faltering high end, tumbling into a crescendo.

Amirali, - Melancholia
Last year Amirali burst onto the scene with the style defining debut album ‘In Time’, and several stand out singles for the label that discovered him, Crosstown Rebels. Fast-forward to 2013 and the producer/musician/singer is evolving his sound with killer craftsmanship. Next release ‘Melancholia’ aims straight for the heart of the dancefloor with a pair of moving remixes from club weapon veteran Deetron. The original mix of ‘Melancholia’ is pulsing with an epic, cosmic force, where an intoxicating combination of shuddering bass and moody, spooky disco grooves meets starry-eyed vocals and haunting minor keys. Providing further proof of Amirali’s on-point and immaculate production, ‘Melancholia’ is also full of soul, emotion and dark elegance. Deetron takes the reigns on the B-side, lending his distinctive warm and emotive style to his ‘Main Mix’. Propelled forward with rising synths and a mounting tension, the Swiss wizard allows Amirali’s refrain to take centre stage underpinning the melody with an intricate percussive groove that leads to a vocal breakdown and style-shifting bassline drop. Deetron also delivers a techno twist on the ‘Club Instrumental Mix’.

Hot on the heels of the first part of this single, part 2 of Amirali?s ?Just An Illusion? features a classic remix by house hero MK and Bristol?s very own Appleblim. Taken from his highly acclaimed, recently released debut album on Crosstown, ?In Time?, ?Just An Illusion? is one of the more infectious tracks off the album with its dance-worthy melodic drive and Amirali?s texturally deep and emotive undertones. This 12? features two great interpretations of the original. Marc Kinchen aka MK offers up a slice of moody sexy house, at first illuminating Amirali?s melancholic vocal and then dropping a dubby bassline and 90s snare kick hat groove. A classic MK remix that sounds truly awesome on the floor, expect to hear this everywhere this summer. On the flip and Appleblim gives ?Just An Illusion? an experimental edge with an ice cool cosmic bleeps and futuristic stripped back feel, steeped in murky atmosphere. A couple of great remixes of Amirali?s sublime original.

After a superb 2011 for Crosstown Rebels, they are now proud to present their next album, Amirali 'In Time'. Tipped as a one to watch for 2012 (Mixmag), Iranian/Canadian producer Amirali's debut album is truly exceptional, a subtle combination of house, techno, funk, electronica and downbeat with indie sensibilities. The album is reminiscent of Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Underworld and Art Department all through a modern electronic paradigm. Amirali features on vocals on the album and is already being widely, regarded as one of the most accomplished debut albums of recent years.
His recent single 'Beautiful World' (featuring remixes from Deniz Kurtel, Daniel Bortz & Hrdvsion) was met with rapturous appeal gaining an ever-increasing legion of fans. 'In Time' is a fantastic body of work, from the hit singles 'My Way', 'Beautiful World' and 'Just An Illusion' to the down tempo 'Painting On A Canvas' and 'Last Words', the album is full of beautiful sonic vignettes. Other highlights include the broken beat 'Whisper', the infectious 'Hear Me' and the mammoth 'Sounds Of My Life'. 'Just An Illusion' will be released shortly after the album featuring MK, Franck Roger and Appleblim remixes. Amirali has succeeding in producing a mesmeric and consummate body of work. The album has already been playlisted on NPR and looking like another big album release for Crosstown Rebels. More

Amirali, - Beautiful World
Emerging from the Crosstown Rebels camp and into the limelight, Iranian Canadian producer Amirali is heading for big things in 2012. Launching the year with first single 'Beautiful World', this captivating slice of nu-wave wonky electronic melancholic house has seismic dancefloor appeal. Suol-mate Daniel Bortz delivers a percussive treat in his remix with bongos and shakers rolling over a deep disco house groove as moody inflections on the vocal and slower swirling pads create lush space between the original elements. Next up, the queen of atmospheric house Deniz Kurtel Bringing down the pace, allowing for plenty of spooky spaciousness, her rework is a master class in progression and sonic texture, effortlessly gliding from futuristic bleeps to funky licks and utilising the melody to devastating effect. Taking things in an entirely fresh direction, Wagon Repair's Hrdvision produces a tougher version in the final remix that's offset with the warping futuristic pads and metallic beats.

A1. STL - No More Words (Wa Wu We Gentlyfication)
B1. STL - No More Words (Sebastian Mullaert Remix)
Release Info:
A very rare remix package of STL's original material from Sebastian Mullaert on very limited edition 12" vinyl.
When I get a request to do a remix, I take that as an invitation… an invitation to express.
The sounds from the original composition become doors / gates… stepping stones for me to travel into this very moment and investigate how it is always changing (that changing being me).
I start working with the sounds… looping, playing, shaping… like a ceramist working with the clay, a painter working with the brush and paint, or the baker working with the dough. This process becomes a mantra; a meditation, and my studio becomes filled with sounds and rhythms… echoes from the original song, filtered by this very moment, temporary passing through "someone" being called Sebastian Mullaert or Wa Wu We.
Expression taking place and there are "NO MORE WORDS". Music becomes being, just Being.
STL is one of my absolute favorite artists, this specific invitation felt very special to me and the journey around the creation of the remix has been very deep.
Now I invite You to take part of it, let your consciousness express this very moment through the experience of the music. Again, being is just Being.
Much love

03. Out Of The One
Info:
The elusive STL returns with a 3-track EP on his newfound home of Dark Matters.
‘Nonzero Sonics’ is the sixth label release to date, and their first to emerge this year.
Stephan Laubner has enjoyed an accomplished career with releases on labels including Perlon, Smallville and Echospace. Despite a scarcity of interviews and public appearances, his reputation as a devoted audiophile and hardware enthusiast has afforded him a loyal following in underground music circles. This release marks the beginning of a new chapter with Amirali’s Dark Matters imprint.
‘Nonzero Sonics’ explores dark and twisted sentiments in avant-garde structures, consistently executed with impeccable detail. ‘No More Words’ meditates on elements of dub and techno in an extended form, whilst ‘Smooth Selector’ establishes a stripped back groove replete with sub frequencies and cavernous echoes. Closing track ‘Out Of The One’ places peculiar harmonies in a tranquil framework, exemplifying the diversity of a producer with true dedication to his craft.

Aboutface is firstly a composer/live performer and secondly a DJ, hailing from East London he steps up for the next release on Amirali's newly founded imprint Dark Matters. Drawing upon both the sociological and environmental landscape as creative inspiration, Aboutface uses his background in fine art and painting to help inform his productions. All the last three years music has been inspired by a thousand mile plus journey through Eastern Europe and around the coastal regions of the UK; each song using the environmental recordings of a different region or city as the creative starting point. He says "I like to combine field recording, acoustic and analogue sounds to articulate small stories in each song. My creative influences range from Pierre Schaeffer, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Claude Debussy, through to James Holden, Four Tet and Boards of Canada. The complexity and broad fields of influence are evident in The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding. The EP is made up of three tracks, The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding is a meandering and laid back percussive track whilst My Benevolent Shackle exudes a darker intensity. Lastly Tin Man steps up for a remix of The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding adding more frenetic energy to the track and upping the pace. Aboutface's compositions are intelligent, and with a debut album planned for next year slotting into the eclectic Dark Matters' growing roster, the future looks bright.
