In a career spanning over 20 years, Todd Sines has released music on some of 89:Ghost's favourite labels, such as Peace Frog (we heart you, .xTrak!!), Planet E, 7th City and Rawax.. We are very proud to present "Internal Dialogue", with all it's spasmic hardware rhythm, blurred horizon waves and bleeping, snapping, machineyfied funk. We hope you enjoy twitching to these trax as much as we do. Peace. 89G x

A2 - Todd Sines - Deserted
B1 - Todd Sines - Cave
B2 - Todd Sines - Recover
Short info:
A legend to those who know, Todd Sines makes his first appearance on Circus Company in a fit of sharp-edged,
wildly expressive house music that harks back to the unhinged early days of the label. Sines has a career that
stretches back to the early 90s, having released lauded records under the .xtrak moniker on Peacefrog and 7th
City amongst other legendary labels. Under his own name he has delivered equally timeless material on Planet E,
Frankie and Morris Audio, but still this summary barely scratches the surface of an artist with a groove so
distinctive it would futile to attempt an imitation.
A key facet of Sines’ material is his ability to match a vivid, futuristic sound palette with a very human soul, and
this is no more apparent than on Blowing. The title track alone throws down a challenge to any selector as a
bugging line in off-kilter drums and tweaked out synth lines rub up against an utterly soulful vocal turn from Robert
Owens in a true definition of 21st century funk. Originally written by Charles Webster, Sines has taken the
foundations of the track and twisted it into a shape all of his own.
Elsewhere the mood takes a deeper turn, as “Deserted”, “Cave” and “Recover” all plunge into a vision of deep
house that retains the emotion while pushing the rhythms into exciting, psychedelic new territory. Even if the
tracks go very far out indeed, there’s always a tangible beat to hold on to, testing the nerve of the play-it-safe DJ
while giving musical explorers music as accessible as it is challenging.
While there may be shards of experimentation flying out of these tracks at every angle, the warmth in between the
unusual shapes makes Sines’ music so very easy on the airs in the same breath. It’s in such juxtapositions that
the most exciting music can be found, satisfying the heart and surprising the head in equal measure. More

Carl Craig reworks this wonderful Herbert like vocal into two bugged click and cuts soundscapes. The main version is just off the wall, really interesting...Carl uses a very minimal drum kit, flipping the female vocal into a wicked Akufen chop up over the top. On the flip, a beatless version, with a low sub b-line and trippy dubbed out pianos.

Titonton Duvante’s Residual imprint has long been considered one of the most respected house-leaning labels in the game. Over the course of the past two decades, the Ohio-based label has housed works from some of the scene’s foremost players, with the likes of Boo Williams, John Tejada, Demarkus Lewis and Volcov among those who’ve repped the tight-knit label with distinction. The label’s latest is another high point for all concerned. A V/A featuring the works of Duvante & Andreas Saag as well as Garrett David, Todd Sines (under his .xtrak alias) and Fym, it’s a wonderfully varied and exciting release that speaks volumes of the label’s ability to consistently churn out top drawer house music.

john tejada - Repurposed
Hot on the heels of Refraction Vol. 2, Residual welcomes the return of long time friend John Tejada. The prolific programming master serves up salacious selections that are searing to say the least. The lead track Jaco is a Pepe Bradock influenced piece the twists and turns with breaky beat work. The numbers on the B side are firmly focused on filing the dance floor. Round the Outside shows Tejada in top form. Upfront drums and basslines perfectly paired with flittering melodies. Repurposed is more minimal in form but no less effective. Quirky tweeks along cascading riffs.

Titonton Duvante's Residual imprint operated out of Columbus, Ohio from the late eighties to the mid-nineties as mainly a vehicle for his own works, but also other legends of the US such as John Tejada, Boo Williams and Todd Sines. He's kickstarted the label again and he's doing it in style with a new track on the A side "Concupiscent": a darkly emotive serving of broken beat high tech soul. Hamburg's Smallville affiliated pursuer of modern deepness Christopher Rau gives us the sublime minimal groove of "Russian Cartoons" too. On the flip, another legend of US techno; Seattle's Jeff Samuel makes a comeback, on the uplifting and funky feelgood groove "WT Fader". Finally Chicago's Garrett David, resident at Smart Bar and buyer at Gramaphone Records gives us the Jeff Mill's tribute "Stasis"
