Jimi Tenor can look back on a career spanning almost 30 years, in which time he has released more than 20 albums on such renowned labels as Warp Records, Sähkö and Kitty-Yo. Pop artist prestige holds no sway over the Finnish composer and multi-instrumentalist. Never resting on his laurels, he continues to hone his unique sound, which draws on elements of jazz, Afrobeats and experimental electronic music.

Jimi Tenor blickt auf eine beinahe 30 jährige Karriere und mittlerweile über 20 veröffentliche Alben auf den renommiertesten Labels wie Warp Records, Sähkö oder Kitty-Yo zurück. Dennoch gibt sich der finnischen Komponist und Multiinstrumentalist niemals mit der Rolle des renommierten Popkünstlers zufrieden, sondern ist auch heute noch ungebrochen aktiv und immer auf der Suche nach neuen Möglichkeiten, seinen ureigenen Sound aus Jazz, Afrobeats und experimenteller elektronischer Musik fortzuschreiben. Nach Veröffentlichung der Compilation "NY, Hel, Barca" im vergangenen Jahr, die sich Tenors Frühwerken und ausgewählten Stücken seiner ersten sechs Alben widmete, erscheint mit "Deep Sound Learning" nun eine Zusammenstellung unveröffentlichter Tracks aus den Jahren 1993 bis 2000. Tenors kreatives Output in dieser Zeit war derart enorm, dass er unzählige DAT-Tapes mit Aufnahmen an sein damaliges Label Warp Records schickte, das diese in einem Tresor in seinem Büro sammelte. Einige der auf diesen Tapes enthaltenen Stücke fanden ihren Weg auf Tenors LPs - andere blieben bis heute unveröffentlicht. Gemeinsam mit Jimi Tenor hat Bureau B dieses beeindruckende, bisher ungehörte Material nun geborgen und daraus eine Doppel-LP/-CD zusammengestellt, das weitaus mehr ist als eine Archivschau. Die 19 Tracks der Compilation führen die Hörer hinaus auf eine unendlich weite Spielwiese, auf der sich rudimentäre polyrhythmische Drum-Machine-Tracks neben ungestümen 303-gesteuerten Minimal-House-Skizzen ebenso versammeln wie Tenors ureigene Future-Jazz-Kompositionen und in sich versunkene DowntempoArrangements. "Deep Sound Learning" dokumentiert die unbändige Experimentierfreude eines Künstlers, der innerhalb von nur sieben Jahren seines Wirkens so viel Facettenreichtum offenbart, wie es andere über Dekaden hinweg nicht vermögen. Jimi Tenor zeigt sich als unermüdlich Suchender und Forschender, dessen Neugierde und Schaffenskraft keinen Anfang und kein Ende zu kennen scheinen.

A little known release on Scott Diaz’s now defunct Connectd records makes its first appearance on vinyl! Anyone that knows Caserta knows his affinity for '90s r&b. For (M) he snags a vocal from one of the most underrated and under appreciated vocalists of that time period. With two mixes featuring the keyboard stylings of the incomparable Yuki 'U-Key' Kanesaka the Dub version gets top billing on the A Side. Smooth keys by the aforementioned Kanesaka with a stripped down arrangement are sure to keep you 2 stepping no matter where your are.

German techno champ Alex Cortex hasn't released an album since 2011's Kihon on Pomelo, but the prolific and long-serving artist is rarely resting on his laurels. Having released just one other EP from Lowtec, Blundar now presents a new untitled LP from Cortex that should satisfy fans of his leftfield approach to techno in all its forms. "Track 2" is a masterclass in how to work breakbeats into techno without sounding forced or false, while "Track 4" blooms from delicate ambience to snagging broken beat with the grace you can only find with such a seasoned vet. Spanning many moods, tempos and rhythms, this is a perfect demonstration of the many engrossing approaches Cortex can attempt and succeed at within the many-sided realm of techno.

After Lowtec, Alex Cortex, STL and iridescence; Swedish label ‘blundar' presents Benjamin Brunn 11th solo album, 20 years after his debut.
BLUNDAR7 comes as a 10 tracks / 38 minutes long-player, coloured cover on a 180g black vinyl. Artwork by ‘mutantexture’

Brunn wrote and produced all tracks between 2017 and 2018; In contrast to most releases that were limited to one or two synthesisers, this time a whole array of instruments was used: tELHARMONIC, Music Thing Modular Chord Organ, Doepfer A-111-3V Precision VCO, 4ms STS, Yamaha DX7, Clavia Nord Modular G1 & G2. The long-player comes after a collaborative album with Dave Wheels out on Sushitech early this year, and will be followed by one together with Move D, via Smallville in 2020.

After the first two Earthly Tapes & a handful of EPs, Earthly Measures drops its first full-length album with Mente Organica’s El Espacio - a beautifully crafted album with glorious textures, steady grooves, calming vibes & a dancefloor filler or two.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia – producer & multi-instrumentalist Mente Organica has slowly been making a name for himself within the folktronica/Latin scene. Following multiple album and EP releases over the past few years, El Espacio marks his first release on wax and the music stands out from anything he has done before. These 8 tracks surprise & reward the listener as individual harmonies at first, and finally, as a whole and immersive symphony.

From 'Pablo Bebe’, a track he wrote which is inspired & dedicated to his best friend – to ‘Close the Door’, written in the depths of quarantine, reflecting isolation, loneliness & introspection, & ‘Yoga’ - a song written with his father that can be easily heard filling the dancefloor as well as easy bedroom sessions, this album truly does feel like his most personal work yet.

Eagle’- an utterly unique track born in Pucon, Chile, after meeting opera singer Katy Prado - blends sensibilities of 60s psychedelic rock vocals with Mente’s signature electronica. ‘Dame Un Segundo’ is the lobby track of the album, with Balearic vibes: chilled, jazzy & floaty. Title track ‘El Espacio’ pays homage to Mente’s influences growing up - think Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation & Air - giving us that Trip Hop vibe. ‘Huanini’ is a real groover - a low-key dance track that evokes that ‘start of the night’ feeling of excitement, with heavy experimentation of granular synths.

Finally, rounding the album off with melodies of hope, delight and positivity, ‘Partida’ reminds us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Matthew Dexter has been waist deep in electronic music, and techno in particular, for years, mainly as the DJ behind a club night called Space Division. Behind the scenes he was also learning the ropes as a producer, with this EP on Eya marking his debut vinyl release. It's a gorgeously retro-futurist affair, with Dexter utilising synthesizer settings and machine drums that recall techno's sci-fi roots, as well as its many mutations over the last 35 years. Check first the faintly foreboding and slightly ghostly 'Desolation of Kind', where flashes of TB-303 and an 'LFO'-esque bass sound catch the ear, before turning your attention to EBM-influenced opener 'AES'. Elsewhere, 'Barlow's Lens' is an undeniably intergalactic affair, while 'Gene's Paranoia' is a gently bleeping roller.

With the influences across the release darting between acid, techno, and rave, 'Versionen 008' is a no holds barred journey into the sounds of dark, cavernous rooms and sweaty basements alike, providing a keen insight into who SHDW & Obscure Shape are passionate about as artists. From the fast-paced, dub techno infused MRD version of 'Der Weg Des Kriegers', the explosive energy in Exium's remix of 'Blick Des Bosen', to the two versions of 'Die Augen Des Teufels' by Stigmata, who effortlessly provides a dose of early 2000's nostalgia, all aspects of the pair's musical tastes are covered.

Hector Oaks takes 'Kein Entkommen' in an otherworldly direction, painting the track with his signature voice, while O [Phase] brings his powerful and hypnotic sound to the duos 'Verlorene Seelen'. Elsewhere on the release, 'Die Prophezeiung' receives a shot of trancey energy from France's Hadone and Introversion breathes new life into 'Blisswunden', developing the track into a melodic dream amongst metallic percussion. The penultimate 'Feuersturm' gets the DJ Boss treatment, as the Slovakian DJ/producer transforms the track into a dynamic late-night roller.

Taking in these variety of moods across the remixes, the compilation sways between different strains of techno, from anthems to DJ tools, covering both modern and vintage to provide a diverse compilation that will no doubt be warmly welcomed by DJs and listeners alike. Frequency Domain extends a warm welcome to the Apologist for their first release since 2006's 'Sorry Dub', a much sought-after 7", cheekily reimagining the theme from 80s BBC sitcom Sorry! as a delicious slice of Basic Channel-esque electronic dub. 'Air Foundry' converges at the crossroads of electronica, dub, electro and techno, with eight elegantly atmospheric tracks written for Frequency Domain in 2019. The full album will be released on cassette and digital formats, while this limited six-track mini LP version is first Frequency Domain release available on vinyl.

Getting things cooking up nicely, the first release from Terry Farley’s lockdown collaboration project, alongside Gary Ellis from South Beach Recycling, Giocoso BBQ Club, turn the gas to full for this three-track feast of prime house cuts.

Served up first, what originally started as an edit of a disco standard for personal use, has been updated and reworked over lockdown into a straight up, minor chord, primetime, 909 Bassline led, NYC real house track that could easily be circa late ‘90s early 2000’s.

Second on the grill, track two has been built to hug you musically rather than punch in the face like it's big brother, and is far more suited to the early hours for the long stayers, or for that matter on the sofa. Traditionally Rhodes-led deep house.

Last but not least, (Runway use only) deep, choppy, Detroit/Chicago/NYC Deep house built in homage to the ballroom.

This is the first release from long time running party 'Lost Control' in Manchester and Berlin and NTS resident under the same name run by Black Eyes. The label itself is our new extension of the portal from the 7th dimension. Specialising in plasma house, sub-aquatic electro and cyber techno all brought back from the year 2097. The first EP is from Texan electro legend Cygnus. We don't need to explain how good he is. We just hope you enjoy the ride of cyber soul at its deadliest. There's even a tribute track to city of Manchester where Lost Control was birthed. The vinyl colour is inspired by the by acid blood of the xenomorphs from the Alien movies, meaning it's translucent fluorescent yellow. "They mostly come at night...mostly!" The record is also mastered by Dutch synth genius Rude 66.

Our second record from Sweden's Sune is a proper full-length. Ten tracks, forty- five minutes—classic LP! And it's arranged as such, too; it tells a story through tightly-arranged chapters. Early on in the journey, they're bouncy and whimsically animated, pillowy white clouds slowly drifting across an azure sky. As we get more invested, the tempo rises and the warm, squishy house beats feel as though they can't always quite keep up. A delight. To conclude the A-side, Sune brings a twinkly ballad, a late- night Joe Jackson piano serenade with instrumental hip-hop drums keeping everything in place. The other side only wants to party; it begins with a wiggly bass lick that's got a wicked charm to it, and continues to explore the unusual jazz-club-meets- sweaty-warehouse space that Sune's compositions are so often possessed with. The B concludes as the A did, with a lilting, hopeful, and heartfelt send-off. Everything is fine? Everything is fine. Everything is fine.

For his third full-length album, Jacques Renault explores his craft through the format of the classic late-night radio megamix. It's a tour de force that finds him blending his quick-cutting DJ sensibilities with his crate-digging, drum-chopping disco-chemist bonafides into one wham-bam party of pastiche. This is Renault as we know him—but at hyperspeed, tearing through twenty- three tracks in under half an hour. And while it's a head rush of his trademark funky drums, sassy horns, playful synths, it's arranged as an album, with songwriting and structure at the fore. Imagine it as a flip on the script for Renault's most loved club 12-inches of the past, which luxuriate in long-form, stretched-out grooves that burn for hours, fills that ride for days. Instead of on pulling a thread for six, seven minutes, he romps around in a bouncy ball pit, plucking out whatever captures his imagination for a moment, then diving back in to discover another buried nugget. It's Jacques Renault as we've always known him, but this time through a suite of bite-size vignettes instead of slow-burn grooves.

After getting used to eclectic sounds but always rooted in disco music, boogie with some proto-house drift, at the stroke of a dozen reissues, Omaggio delights us with a two tracks new-wave masterpiece, released in the mid-'80s on Color Record, seminal Flemish label, first and only recording of the Sound On Sound project. The original tracks "Macho" and "Depression" have been fully restored and come courtesy of Peter Gillis. For our fifth release, P&f Recordings is pleased to welcome Berlin-based musician, producer, and DJ, Alex Kassian.

Over the past few years, Kassian has made a name for himself in Berlin and beyond as a solo act, as well as with his project Opal Sunn, via a clutch of well received, dancefloor-focused 12s. But on our first release of 2021, Kassian swaps the techy pulse of the German capital for a sound that’s altogether more melodic and atmospheric.

Side A kicks off with 'Leave Your Life (Lonely Hearts Mix)' which began as a way for the producer to realize some of his early—and so far unrequited—dreams of playing in a rock band.

Next up he delivers 'Leave Your Life (Dance Mix)', which ups the energy and echoes some of the production that made the musician’s 'Oolong Trance' (Love on the Rocks) one of 2020’s best club tunes.

On the flip, the gorgeous 'Spirit of Eden' unfurls like a lost Lyle Mays classic, but with a mesmerizing loop that keeps the song’s feet placed firmly on the dancefloor.

Concluding the EP is a bass-heavy remix from none other than U.S. dub legend Bill Laswell. 'Eden’s' melodic focus is underpinned by a propulsive groove and filtered through Laswell's trademark sonic dynamics.

The EP, comes packaged in a full-color jacket from Parisian artist Alexis Jamet with OBI strip.

After a long wait, and restructure of our releases due to The Pandemic, we decided that our next EP had to represent the times that we miss on the dancefloor as well as the glimmer of hope that dance music has given us through these surreal times.

Elusive UK producer Kilig brings a six-track EP spanning the British sound palette - forward, complex, with inflections of jungle and garage - to the new Shall Not Fade Classic Cuts imprint. Off the back of releases for Scuffed and Origins in 2020, kilig pairs their intimate knowledge of London's rave scene with more minimalist tinges for What My Mind Needs EP, a simmering club record soaked deep in ambience.

Taking sombre organic vocal samples and delicately placing them over a sharp two-step rhythm, opening track "Closer" is intangible, fantasy-like - the memory of music in your ears after you've left the club. There are echoes of Burial's seminal Untrue across the EP. Kilig aptly reflects the certain melancholy of British club music in the gritty "Overthinking" and mournful "Without You", an ensemble of distorted vocals and dramatic droning synth.

The rest of the record pushes into a more euphoric atmosphere - the title track is a soaring rave number while "Clocking In", a wild beast of a track, glitches and confuses. "I Wanted To Call & Tell You" swells in waves of breakbeat, bringing together the emotional core of the record, fading to gentle keys, the dream of raves to come in 2021.

Jimi has chosen one title each from his two albums released on Philohon.
