House music has no bounds when it comes to exposing tones, ambience and expressions via its multiple sound adventures. Leading us directly and eagerly to the dance floor is one attribute that Mendo seems to have honed to perfection over the years though, and his signature sound of dance floor hysteria with a mature and classy edge is what we've come to know him best through; .The Stages Of Life' Ep follows all that we know and love with its irresistibly deep bass lines, upbeat character and summer vibe. “Inocencia” opens this bright Ep with crisp slices of sound cutting eagerly through and leading us into spell bounding metal drums and a round sensual bass line. Its power is unmistakeable as the beats wrap around, we transport immediately to balmy terraces and debaucherous sunset dancing. Simply screaming to be thrown down on floors and terraces worldwide, “Inocencia” plays vocal games with chanting children and their delightful innocence. Not quite as simple as it sounds though, Mendo's layers of swooning brass add sophistication and charm, belting into the skies and enveloping the dance floor vibe that's so intricately been created. On the flip, “Old School” lives up to its name as classic and head strong techno kicks hold no prisoners. Spitting vocals, menacing sirens and a sexually charged edge stampede from beginning to end, all rounded off by a killer bass line that spits you swirls with snarling pace. “Old School” showcases Mendo's talent for fiery and timeless house tech production whilst making this two track Ep a summer 2011 must have for dj's and dancers alike.

Dachshund is a living example of a musician who doesn’t take himself too seriously: His lively productions, where his passion for experimentation in rhythm and sound are clearly evident, stand out as a welcome departure from the sterile work of so many other heads in the scene. Besides humor, an easy-going Jamaican feeling characterizes his sets and tracks: The Swiss DJ, producer and label owner has his musical roots in reggae, which he has followed all the way to the sunny Caribbean. No wonder then, that we can hear the dub influence in his current musical output.
True to form, Dachshund presents his latest release on the Berlin record label, Highgrade Records, where the beats will blister through the speakers in unexpected combinations and grooves. Around every corner there seems to lurk a new mad idea or sound sequence from Dachshund, who
leads his listeners equally as he misleads them on the dancefloor. With a sly musical wink, he offers us three tracks “Shall We”, “Soul Free” and “Tell Me” produced with sophistication and elegance. These tunes switch almost imperceptibly into a grooving mind-trip that perfectly fits the title of the EP. This is the equivalent of a relaxing invitation to dance: “Shall We”? … But, of course!

DJing and producing together since 2005, Deep Space Orchestra (Chris Barker and Si Murray) have releases on a number of heavyweight labels and regular guest appearances at club nights and radio shows throughout the UK and rest of the world. Recent highlights include being asked to record a guest mix for Gilles Peterson's highly influential Worldwide show and an upcoming mix for Michael Ruetten's Soulsearching show. They also run the Use of Weapons record label, which, although only two releases old, is already gathering much praise. Only 9 years after its official opening, Watergate has become one of the world's most prominent underground electronic music institutions. In no small part due to its picturesque location running directly alongside the river Spree, its wall to wall LED dance floor installation and most of all, its consistent flow of first-rate international talent performing every week.
Watergate's presence and influence has spawned many side projects including a boutique-style Mix CD series now in its 8th volume. A who's who of the club's regular talent and resident artists such as Sascha Funke, Sebo K, dOP, Ellen Allien and others have all contributed to the aesthetically pleasing series, now regarded as collector's items.
For the eight installment in our mix series, we bridge the gap between two global capitals of techno: Berlin, and Detroit, home of Lee Curtiss who delivers a forward-thinking mix, inspired by time spent living in both cities. Lee is one of a new generation of techno visionaries from the Motor City, that includes his Visionquest collaborators Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Seth Troxler, who are putting their own unique spin on their city's most famous underground musical export. Based between Detroit and Berlin for the last four years, Lee has a fundamental grasp of what makes both dancefloors at Watergate tick, and this enduring love and understanding of the space clearly shines through in his mix. Building on the raw soul and funk of those who have blazed a trail before him, on both sides of the Atlantic, Lee brings his own subtle melodies and keen sense of dramatic tension to the fore in a mix that encompasses all that is vibrant and exciting about underground techno in 2011

Canada's Cobblestone Jazz have established themselves as one of the most unique and inspiring bands of the past decade. Thanks to their exploration of house through the eyes of a jazz improv group, their music is derived from the organic energy of the group's jam sessions and their now legendary live performances. Comprised of members Tyger Dhula, Mathew Jonson, Danuel Tate along with newest addition The Mole, Cobblestone Jazz are as accomplished individually as musicians and performers as they are a band - united by long term friendship, respect and passion for writing music in the moment. Their decade long history of releases on IsWhatItIs, !K7 and Wagon Repair have earned the praise and long time support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Carl Craig, Luciano and Sven Väth. "Memories (From Where We Are)" celebrates the first of a series of 12" releases that will come out on Wagon Repair over the course of 2011/12. The outcome of a Berlin jam session last fall, the band incorporated a Fender Rhodes, vocoder, and SH-101 to make up the core voicing of the tracks while a CS-20 provides the drive at the end of both. In typical Cobblestone Jazz fashion, the track was mixed live with no prior sequencing arrangement. The session was then cut by The Mole into two sublime edits - the results could be their strongest release since "Dump Truck".
