Cocoon Recordings presents a new mix-compilation and it is number 49!!! More than that it is the 10th edition of the label-inhouse-compilation-series mixed by Chris Tietjen and last but not least it will be the final chapter of this ten years lasting journey. So we end the story as we believe it is at its climax and with some proud we can say that number ten ("ZEHN RETROSPECTIVE") is one of the best cocoon-inhouse-compilations ever - and one of the best mixes of our man Chris Tietjen, too!. However it wouldn't be a real end if there is no special content here: "ZEHN RETROSPECTIVE" is not only the 10th edition and the final one, it is also the only one that looks back at almost ten years of its existence. In other words: Tietjen picked his favorite cocoon recordings tracks and remixes from the last ten years and mixed them together on one CD. Even more, he managed to do this close to perfection as one does not notice that 36 tracks from a whole decade merge into one big mix here. Tietjen proves that he developed into a vital and profound DJ throughout these years and that this final edition is the dignified product to end this era! The former Cocoon Recordings intern and Sven Väth protegé did everything right in "ZEHN" and has choosen a great selection out of more than 150 releases! The labels repertoire consists of a variety of styles like techno, house, minimal, dub and even chill-out and experimental tracks. The full list of artist names appears like the inofficial "who is who" of the international techno circuit. Tietjen's final selection features names like Minilogue, Kollektiv Turmstraße, Moritz Von Oswald, Nina Kraviz, Loco Dice, Argy, Guy Gerber, Johannes Heil, Adam Beyer, Marco Carola or Maetrik - just to name a few. If you count in all remixers and collab-producers this final edition features more than 40 artists on just one CD! Despite the many different names with all their very own styles the final mix turned out very well. The transitions and the arrangement appears very harmonic and homogenic. It is of course not a new "Closer To The Edit" approach like Richie Hawtin once introduced it however Tietjen's mix is quite close to this idea as he manages it to merge down 36 tracks in just one 80 minute mix. We are not highlighting certain artists or their tracks/remixes on this CD as it won't reflect the actual vibe of this mix. And we better do not even start explaing each and every track here and what it means for us or why Chris picked it - this would need way more space than we have in this info. However we have to say that most of these tracks are the soundtrack of our life, of our past ten years. This is more than just a CD for us, it is a haptic souvenir from our musical journey and it is a damn good mix on top! Number ten has it all - a unique way of saying good-bye, isn't it?

Rrose has found her own niche in the American techno underground. Her hypnotic tracks incorporate ideas from ambient and minimalist music as prominently as they do the history of dance music, operating in the same fruitful cross-section between techno and the abstract as many other Further Records releases. Rrose's debt to experimental music has never been more obvious than on September 20, 2012, when he performed James Tenney's "Having Never Written A Note For Percussion" live in Washington, DC. The simple yet colossal piece is one of that American composer's most famous works, requiring the performer to play one percussive instrument constantly, taking it from the quietest point to the loudest and back again. Done well, it's a fascinating exploration of tone, volume and decay, and a showcase for drone music's unusually transportive powers.

"Never Having Written A Note For Percussion" has always been a personal favourite of Rrose's. He was struck with the inspiration to try it out after touring a disused trolley tunnel beneath downtown DC, where the possibilities of "seemingly endless and unpredictable reverberations" seemed like the perfect environment for Tenney's composition. He made a 32-inch gong played with two mallets the central device of his performance, creating a towering leviathan of sound capable of the softest highs and the deepest lows. It's a vastness that comes across especially well on the live recording of that 2012 performance, a breathtaking 30 minutes that seems daunting at first but moves with a grace as easy as breathing in and out.

What makes Rrose's take almost definitive is not only does he stretch out the piece to 30 minutes beyond its usual 8-12 minute duration, but even more importantly she offers two versions made in two very different settings. The A-side of the 12-inch features a performance recorded in a studio during his practice sessions. Dry and mic'd up close, its almost stuffy quality is the direct opposite of the live version, like it's coming from inside your head where the live-recording B-side surrounds you with the booming sound of the gong. That duality makes for a valuable insight into the power of Tenney's original composition and its wide-open potential for interpretation. "Never Having Written A Note For Percussion" is a powerful study not only in minimalist composition but the importance of the room and environment that a performance, or just pure sound, takes place in, and a potent example of the kind of experimental tendencies that make Rrose one of techno's more fascinating figures.

It has been 13 years since Cobblestone Jazz debuted on the now infamous IIWII imprint, and in March of 2015 things will come full circle with the trio from Canada returning for the 16th release on the label where it all started. "Northern Lights" features tight gated keys layered with complex harmonies and soaring pad swells. Equally suited for peak time and sunrise, it is an incredibly versatile piece for the crate and clocks in at an ever evolving 11+ minutes
"Drawn From The Side Of Crime" is found on the flip, and is another long and twisting musical journey running just shy of 13 minutes. Its foundation is a meditative bassline that rolls underneath for the duration. Hints of a beautiful modal Rhodes line tease throughout the arrangement, adding a complex depth to the fabric of the piece. These recordings were done in one pass over a three day period in 2013, and edits were culled this past winter. The record as a whole is arguably their most musical and expansive release to date, which all things considered is quite a statement in itself. Cobblestone Jazz are extremely proud to be sharing this release on the imprint from where they began.

Future child of Paula Temple's Noise Manifesto, Decon/Recon puts strength and artivism into a new idea of scene. The first Decon/Recon release is planned on 20 April 2015, both vinyl in limited edition and digital. The brand new project is based on a new series of electronic dance music releases presenting a unique and libertarian approach to collaboration, production and dance floor action. It converges artists' samples in an open archive which is reassembled in four different tracks by the artists themselves. This project wants to put identity into a crisis by giving a collective authoriality and by letting all hierarchies collapse into a collective resonance who dares to become.
Decon/Recon is not just about new forms of self representation, the deconstructive process of the "artist" status in terms of superiority or the elaboration of new politically active business models but about composition as a scene and quality dance music at its best. The release will de/compose four future pioneers who responds to the names of Aquarian Jugsa new alias from Jam Rostron aka Planningtorock, rRoxymore, Oni Ayhun and Paula Temple herself as Jaguar Woman. The Releases' paratextual structure will play the same game. All artists shall be credited on the cover without authorial connections with the title of their own tracks exposing the listener, reader, dancer in to taking active part in the whole process.
Where Deconstructing is Reconstructing, dancing is enacting future live models into present floors.

John Bence’s Disquiet is a composition in three movements for soprano voice and cello, but what you hear is not that composition. After scoring and recording the full piece, the 19-yearold composer manipulated the recordings to produce something new. Then he wrote a new score, re-recorded, manipulated, and re-scored again ... and again. This Disquiet is a layering of many — the process is the result: a slow-churning, microtonal wash, at once liquid and brilliantly crystalline in affect. Two timbres fracture into many. A tectonic drone slides below and aerates a chorus as vocals flicker in and out of being, wrestling with silence. Cacophony blends into order as subtle harmonies appear. What Bence has written falls somewhere between an electronic production and a classical composition. Where these two forms intersect is where Disquiet occurs.

"When we say "live in the future" it becomes a repudiation of living in the present, and then instantly we are in a state of denial"
'Denial' has a hypnotic effect on the mind. Gutsy 909 claps work with percussion and futurist vocal snippets that warp and chop, whilst haunting chords wrap themselves and sublimate over the body. 'Denial' wants you to "live in the future", denying the present moment. Yet the music speaks in the present. To close your eyes, find yourself; lose yourself in the moment and groove. 'Denial' is an invitation to live in the present. In the 'Prise d'acid' version, things are ramped up a gear with more forceful kick drums and densely layered percussion. Whilst it still retains the hypnotic, evocative factor of the original, Wink's trademark 303 bubbles its way in, providing more peak-time oomph.
The 'Tweak Dub' is a raw interpretation of the original, heavily focusing on the swing and drive of the magnetic groove with trippy tweaks of analog synth sequences drawing inspiration from his Chicago luminaries. Josh Wink is a quiet expert of metaphors within music. Of music that invites you to forget your thoughts and let the music do its work. 20 years ago he released 'Higher States of Consciousness', a record that portrayed and shaped dance culture at that time. Since, he has released music including 'I Am Ready', 'Don't Laugh', 'Oakish', 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana', 'Balls' and last year he released the intense game-changer techno anthem, 'Talking To You', a record that hasn't left DJ's boxes and has forthcoming a remix package from Adam Beyer and Matthew Dear. Wink is a producer who works ahead of trends and always stays true to his passion of the music itself, with integrity at the forefront.

Now here's something special. Johannes Brecht returns to Poker Flat with a little night music, a trio of deep, dramatic and driving house tunes that in their precision and invention are testimony to a distinctive intelligence. Since an impressive stint as musical director for Henrik Schwarz's "Instruments" project and the subsequent release of 2013's "Holla", Brecht's reputation has been growing steadily with a series of carefully crafted 12"s. And if "Trois Nocturnes" is anything to go by, 2015 is set to be his year.
"Nuages" hinges on a sinuous, snake-charming synth line. Instantly memorable, it's an exquisite headphone experience that's equally deadly on the dancefloor.
The lilting "Sirènes" teems with ideas, its big kick burnished with a dancing synth motif and a chamber orchestra of synthetic strings.
Last but not least, the motorik 12-minute "Fêtes" contrasts its knotty, brittle piano line with sus-tained pads and bright, striking syncopations.

It's mildly comical, that Tim Wagner and Amy Douglas, two former Long Islanders would choose Sunrise HWY (former Sunrise Highway) as the name for their venture, but one listen to the music, and it's clear as to why they chose such a lofty and expansive name. Sunrise HWY is atmospheric, sophisticated, broad, and most importantly a return to the song as king. After the successful debut EP on True Romance in 2014, we are excited to have the remix EP finally coming out. And it's not just some remixes, we managed to get two of the best remixers around at the moment. Italy's finest Tiger & Woods and Tuff City Kids from Germany.
Larry Tiger & David Woods delivered a very hypnotic version of Sunrise HWY's ‚Some Kinda Fool' while Gerd Janson & Lauer aka Tuff City Kids did their reinterpretation on the originals of ‚Never Enough' and ‚Compass Point'. And if that's not enough, we added their very own Dub to the package as well.
