"Freeze" is another milestone production, a manifestation of the outstanding skills of this experienced sound designer who started his career as the engineer of Prince and who later formed the critically acclaimed duo MOTOR. The final mix-downs were done together with Chris Liebing at his state of the art studio in Frankfurt, guaranteeing the same sonic brilliance we are used to from all recent CLR releases. With the present EP, Bryan Black, the man who toured and recorded with bands like Depeche Mode and Nitzer Ebb sums up his personal history by bringing a feeling from the past back into contemporary music. Always paying respect to his Industrial and Rock roots, BLACK ASTEROID keeps sticking out in the current Techno scene and has once more proved his mastery as an electronic musician and innovative producer.

Colors, the east-London party collective has been on a roll as of late, with a spate of successful events that have taken them across Europe to Berlin, Istanbul and Barcelona to name a few countries. As the name suggests, each event draws inspiration from the colour spectrum, with guests encouraged to dress up in a different chosen shade each night to get down to a soundtrack influenced by deep house, funk, disco and techno.
Now they are expanding - as has always has been the main goal - to include a label as well, with rising French star Remi Mazet providing the inaugural EP, and a remix from Ivan Smagghe. What with Remi being a longstanding resident for the night, not to mention some stellar recent releases on Le Via En Rose and Hot Waves, it only seemed fitting for him to get involved.

The title track is a bubbling nu-disco number that would be right at home in Todd Terje's record bag, with a cheeky four-to-the-floor strut, chunky, elasticated bassline and fizzing arpeggiated synthlines.
'Les Merguez' is a peaktime jacking number, with rolling snares and
well placed vinyl scratch samples that are reminiscent of Thomas Bangaltier's house classic 'Spinal Scratch'. After the breakdown, cheeky 303 style synths and toe-tapping cowbells take the track to all new levels of funk.
'Orange & Blue' simply oozes class, rolling along at a spacious, languid pace, with a bassline which gently chugs along against a backdrop of soulful vocal croons, majestic strings and Rhodes piano chords, Finally, Ivan Smagghe takes 'I Felt This Way Before' into slightly tougher territory, opting away with the glossy melodies of the original and instead kneading it out into a propulsive analogue workout.

Munk is the project of Gomma label founder Mathias Modica ("Germany's most interesting electronic music label" The NME). Munk is best known for his collaborations with Rebolledo from Pachanga Boys (Surf Smurf), James Murphy LCD Soundsystem (Kick out the chairs), Asia Argento (Live Fast Die Old) and club hits like Down in L.A. and La Musica. He co- produced the albums of Gomma bands WhoMadeWho and Moullinex. There is already a big buzz around Munk right now: The pre-single Southern Moon went on top of the Beatport house charts. DJs like Todd Terje, Shit Robot, Tensnake and Disclosure are playing it. Also Happiness Juice (and its superb video) is all over the blogs right now. Munk's latest remix of Lana Del Rey's West Coast went on No.1 of Hypemachine after it's release in June 2014 and is one of the most blogged remixes of this summer. The new album Chanson 3000 is the 4th Munk album. It was recorded in Berlin - where Mathias and his new vocalists live. As usual Mathias' music doesn't fit in any categories. It's a mixture of 90ies Electronica and House with New Wave, 70ies Jazzfunk, Indie Disco and his love for songwriters like Burt Bacharach, Quincy Jones, Trevor Horn. Mathias is a classically trained musician. His dad (a composer of contemporary classical music) taught him instruments since the age of five. That's why Modica's way of producing is so different: He mixes "real" instruments (he plays piano, synths, bass, saxophone, guitars, drums) and new digital techniques. He also has this special ability to write melancholic melodies and harmonical structures that are unusual to electronic music. Probably that's why so many names have been invented to describe the Munk sound: Outsider House, Digital Soul, Deep Disco - but maybe you can put it the way a German writer did: Munk sounds like you put Metronomy, Disclosure and Nicolas Jarr in a mixer and add some great soul voices. The Album has been mixed and mastered by Rob Rox (Banks) and Mark Ralph (Daniel Avery, Franz Ferdinand).
The singers
Modica was searching for new, special voices and found them in Berlin: 23 year old Lizzie Paige who was raised in Austin/ Texas where she has grown up with listening concerts of new bands at the SXSW festivals before she moved first to New York and then to Berlin.
Mona Lazette was born in Nigeria where Fela Kuti was regularly visiting her dad's house. Later the family moved to London where Mona has been organizing underground partys, doing guestappiriances on records by Solomun, Catz 'n Dogz and Kele before going to Berlin.
The labels:
Mathias runs Gomma and the new house-sublabel Toy Tonics with two friends. Gomma by now is one of Germany's main labels for electronic music. The last Gomma compilation "100% Gomma" has been No.1 at JUNO Downloads for 6 weeks.
Gomma has released the debut records of WhoMadeWho, Moullinex, Black Loops, Daniel Avery, Hotlane and the solo project of Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem. Last year's Gomma discovery Esperanza just has been taken over by Berlin's Life & Death label.

Early 2012. Requests from all over the world reach Berlin based indie label Sinnbus about a remix made by a certain Dixon. Alright. Sinnbus need to look this up first. And see: This Dixon put a different beat under Bodi Bill's version of the Hundreds song "Machine" and used it in a mix. Also, this piece seems to be released on a small vinyl edition on Dixon's label Innervisions. Very interesting. They get into contact. Dixon apologizes, he could've let them know at least. And yes, he knows and appreciates the records of both bands and that's why he did these reworks. And especially speaking of Hundreds he takes great interest in doing a real remix sometime. With the proper files. Maybe when the next album is due. If the opportunity arises. They shall keep each other updated. Hundreds in turn have a remarkable time since their debut album was released in 2010. The siblings Eva and Philipp Milner play sold out shows all over Europe and quickly gain international attention. With their music - a haunting mix of cold and distant electronica, dusky songwriting and the captivating, warm voice - the band wins loyal, passionate fans and huge respect from different musical scenes. When the release of their 2nd album "Aftermath" is due in early 2014, Dixon is immediately up for a collaboration. He only needs to integrate it in his brimful schedule and asks for some time. In the meantime the idea to go ahead and compile a whole EP is developed. Rather reckless and without strategy Hundreds and Sinnbus start inquiring to artists who thrill them. And they're surprised and delighted about the positive resonance. Almost automatically one after another attends to the album pieces and gives them an exciting new form. As if they were a
big present they fall into Hundreds' and Sinnbus' lap and urge to be released. At this point Krakatau Records come in. The techno label of Bodi Bill, crossborder musicians who find their home on Sinnbus as well. Robag Wruhme (Freude Am Tanzen, Pampa Records) opens the EP with his version of "Aftermath". The very broad, cinematic original is broken down into its essential core. Consequently reduced, "Robags Berchem Duff NB" pushes forward in its almost wooden drought. The/Das (Life And Death, Sinnbus) finally defined themselves as a full band with their recent album "Freezer". With the remix of "Please Rewind" they undertake a backward roll to the beginnings of their work. During the dusky piece a nervous beat blows up menacing and the sharp monotony creates a compelling undertow. With his remix of "Ten Headed Beast" Christian Löffler (Ki Records) lends the original, which is hitting radio stations at the moment, his tasteful, introspective touch. He easily adds an almost weightless, shimmering melancholy to the already airy piece. At the same time this marks the start of a cooperation both sides were aiming for for a long time and will certainly generate more remarkable output. Epically the EP is closed by a remix of Brandt Brauer Frick (!K7). The Celebrate Yourself Remix of "Rabbits On The Roof" is enthralling and impelling from the start. Rich in detail and with a lot of savvy formulated finenesses it loads up more and
more, only to eventually break out into orchestral bang. An absolutely rewarding final! And Dixon? In the end Dixon can't do it for this date. But it's only a pleasure deferred. Also if he's not on this EP, he may be heartly thanked as stumbling block for the result. Thanks, Dixon.

When norwegians electro-jazz pioneer Bugge Wesseltoft and Henrik Schwarz (!K7/ Innervisions) produced their collaboration "Duo", it was clear that their synergy was both unique within, and revitalizing to, the whole genre of electro-acoustic beat-based improvisation. Now the duo becomes a trio, and the dialogue becomes a Trialogue. Indie/ Jazz Bassist Dan Berglund (e.s.t., Ane Brun) brings additional dimensions and a whole new range of songwriter possibilities, a completely new layer of sound, Tastefully chosen electronic rhythmic patterns and drums, virtuosic piano playing, analog synthesiers, thumping double bass lines. Subtle but high energy walks through your speakers. Moments of quasi-ambient atmosphere sit alongside driving energetic swathes of blues-inflected jamming from the future, near-metallic semi-sinister meteor storms of sound rest easily beside moments of classic jazz noire, and there is a marked assimilation of classical chamber sensibilities. This is a thoroughgoing post-postmodernist soundworld. What the listener will recognise instantly is, simply put, great music.



BUGGE WESSELTOFT (Keys/Percussion)
Since 1990 Bugge Wesseltoft has constantly evolved his sound, restlessly exploring new territory, rarely (if ever) looking back over travelled roads.
He has worked with some of the best-known and respected names in jazz, such as Jan Garbarek, Nils Petter Molvaer, as also toured/ played with Laurent Garnier, Joaquin Joe Claussell, collaborates with Ricardo Villalobos.
He is the founder of the record label Jazzland Recordings, and in this capacity has mentored, produced or collaborated with many great and diverse Norwegian acts.

HENRIK SCHWARZ (Computer/Percussion)
For over 20 years Henrik Schwarz has been one of the most sought-after producers of electronic dance music. His background is the Chicago/Detroit techno culture, but his musical career straddles many different projects.
He has composed film and ballet scores, as well as creating commissioned works for orchestras, chamber ensembles, cooperation with the likes of Nik Bärtsch, Hauschka, Guem. Schwarz produces dance mixes and productions for legends like Michael Jackson, Boy George, indie stars The Foals, Ane Brun, singers Mari Boine, Mark Murphy, Raoul Midon, Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and many more.

DAN BERGLUND (Double Bass)
A rock music lover at heart Berglund been one important third of the group E.S.T., the Esbjorn Svenson Trio.
Dan Berglund is legendary for his deep and full "Mingus-like" bass tone and his "Jimi Hendrixs-like" solos, using all manner of effects to make the double bass sound like screaming electric guitars. This has made him the sensation in many of e.s.t.´s concerts.

Indie/ Jazz Bassist Dan Berglund (e.s.t., Ane Brun) brings additional dimensions and a whole new range of songwriter possibilities, a completely new layer of sound, Tastefully chosen electronic rhythmic patterns and drums, virtuosic piano playing, analog synthesiers, thumping double bass lines. Subtle but high energy walks through your speakers. Moments of quasi-ambient atmosphere sit alongside driving energetic swathes of blues-inflected jamming from the future, near-metallic semi-sinister meteor storms of sound rest easily beside moments of classic jazz noire, and there is a marked assimilation of classical chamber sensibilities. This is a thoroughgoing post-postmodernist soundworld. What the listener will recognise instantly is, simply put, great music.



BUGGE WESSELTOFT (Keys/Percussion)
Since 1990 Bugge Wesseltoft has constantly evolved his sound, restlessly exploring new territory, rarely (if ever) looking back over travelled roads.
He has worked with some of the best-known and respected names in jazz, such as Jan Garbarek, Nils Petter Molvaer, as also toured/ played with Laurent Garnier, Joaquin Joe Claussell, collaborates with Ricardo Villalobos.
He is the founder of the record label Jazzland Recordings, and in this capacity has mentored, produced or collaborated with many great and diverse Norwegian acts.

HENRIK SCHWARZ (Computer/Percussion)
For over 20 years Henrik Schwarz has been one of the most sought-after producers of electronic dance music. His background is the Chicago/Detroit techno culture, but his musical career straddles many different projects.
He has composed film and ballet scores, as well as creating commissioned works for orchestras, chamber ensembles, cooperation with the likes of Nik Bärtsch, Hauschka, Guem. Schwarz produces dance mixes and productions for legends like Michael Jackson, Boy George, indie stars The Foals, Ane Brun, singers Mari Boine, Mark Murphy, Raoul Midon, Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and many more.

DAN BERGLUND (Double Bass)
A rock music lover at heart Berglund been one important third of the group E.S.T., the Esbjorn Svenson Trio.
Dan Berglund is legendary for his deep and full "Mingus-like" bass tone and his "Jimi Hendrixs-like" solos, using all manner of effects to make the double bass sound like screaming electric guitars. This has made him the sensation in many of e.s.t.´s concerts.

Looking for a new home for your mind? Welcome to the Soul estate! Two guys from the southwest of Germany built up their own musical experimental ground. The product of their research is the stellar debut EP "Welcome...". Each of the four tracks on the EP takes the listener to another direction while being part of an artistic master plan. Heating up your body and warming up soul - this record amalgamates just the right elements of the early 90s sound with the 2010's freshness, four bombs for dancefloor and mind fully loaded with ass-shaking grooves and soul feeding chords!
The white "future" side by Suaave is starting with a deep and airy chord-pad, slowly building up and defying gravity until the 909 kicks in, along with the chords turning to fire. Just in time for autumn, Fran invites us into club music's parallel world with the project Hamlet: aided by Oded K.dar (NÖRD / The Koletzkis) on the piano, she presents cover versions of beloved electronic classics such as 'Sky and Sand', 'Limit to your Love', 'Howling' or 'Hypnotized' on the fittingly titled album 'Piano'. The initial idea came to the duo at a birthday party; the first baby steps followed the very next day. Surprised by the potential, the autodidactic singer Fran and the studied concert pianist Oded searched far and wide for the perfect grand piano, which they eventually found in the form of an old Steinway at the Greve Studio in Berlin. Thus, the drunken whim developed into fourteen beautiful covers over the course of numerous nightly recording sessions.
Reduced to vocals and piano, Hamlet let the original track's essence resound. One is able to hear the soul of the song, as the minimalistic rendition enables breathing space. Moderat's 'Bad Kingdom' or Kraftwerk's 'Das Modell' suddenly appear like honest black and white portraits. The words and melodies, embedded in the harmonies of the piano, are like the wrinkles and peculiarities of a face stripped of make-up, emerging in a hitherto unseen fashion. A new aesthetic is created through the reduction. Removed from the club, the songs on 'Piano' are defined by their pure emotiveness - sometimes of a euphoric, sometimes of a melancholic nature - while they are also a nostalgic bridge to their original context. They seem like a vague memory of a late night; like the walk home in the quiet hour before dawn.

The first of a two-part package of exclusive material from the 17th edition in the Watergate CD series is from none other than the duo who commanded the mix, Pan-Pot. Making it even more special is the fact that both tracks are collaborations with two heavy hitting names in the industry from completely different sides of the musical spectrum: Slam and Vincenzo. On the A side we see Pan-Pot and Slam do a techno burner with 'Conductor'. This shouldn't come as any surprise as both are well known for their heavy peak time club anthems. With driving hi hats, crisp snares and a thumping kick drum, the solid foundation is laid for the craftsmen to build the rest of their masterpiece and it begins with dark, reverb heavy stabs. Slowly a monotonous yet psychedelic tone takes grip and the stabs come again. This time more frequent and building in energy before getting to the break where the white noise grows and the tension builds. With just a few perfect elements it only takes removing a few pieces and then giving them back at the perfect time to instill a massive 'hands in the air' moment. The flip side offers another vibe which rounds out the EP perfectly. It was in 2007 on the Pan-O-Rama album that we last saw Vincenzo and Pan-Pot together for 'Faces'. With 'Fiction Inc' we see both artists' styles shine through. A warm deep sub bass grabs your attention while washes of glittery synths pan the background setting the stage for the lush key work that Vincenzo is synonymous for and the sinister bleeps that scream Pan-Pot. Finally the feature element reveals itself; a mix between dark and uplifting chords that resolve each cycle of the other elements finalizing in a cohesive, driving, emotional ride.
