A2. Chillin’ 4 Work
B1. Arcade Scene
B2. Travelling Music (Version Reprise)
Info:
International Feel founder and guru of the sunset soundtrack, Mark Barrott returns with a new EP entitled Travelling Music. After spending the last few years writing & producing for other people, Mark is focusing his creative efforts inwards & rediscovering his own musical compass, calling it ‘the best medicine and therapy there is’. It’s this energy he looks forward to sharing via a number of releases over the coming months, including a new La Torre compilation, a series of Bandcamp only releases (Bandcamp Editions), the soundtrack to a new Japanese documentary (??) and this new vinyl release, Travelling Music.
He refers to the title track as Balearic trance. Not in the overblown Dutch sense, but trance as a metaphor/mechanism for an altered state, through hypnotic unraveling synth lines and a dash of wonkiness thrown in for good measure . Elsewhere on the EP, Arcade Scene flexes its melodic Italo dance moves with a slight nod to New Order, but a version of the group that’s beamed in from an alternate reality, where The Haçienda was called Il Tesoro and relocated to Ancona via a Gerd Janson DJ set circa 1991.
Chillin’ 4 work channels Aphex Twin from his easy listening Gentle People remix era, with added Sketches from an Island / Ry Cooder-esque guitars and the reprise of Travelling Music already feels like a La Torre sunset classic, bouncing with sequenced polyrhythmic arpeggios, before gently evaporating into a Vangelis-meets-Edgar Froese heat haze.
As with most of his work, Barrott calls this folk music…the telling of stories from everyday life and being Ibizan in origin, there are always a lot of varied & crazy stories to tell, but this chapter in particular feels like a deep burnt therapeutic transmission straight from the heart.

Shortinfo:
Mark Barrott is the man behind International Feel, Roca, Future Loop Foundation, as well as being a founding of the Balearic boy-band “Talamanca System” alongside Gerd Janson & Lauer.
Nature Sounds of The Balearics is Mark’s debut LP on Running Back Incantations.
Most music does not come out of nowhere. Arising and appearing in a pre-existing system of influences, cross-references, roots, memories and desires, it either directly points towards a heritage or into the future. Mark Barrott’s Nature Sounds of the Balearics is a bit of both. The mastermind behind the International Feel label and the Sketches from an Island series presents an intermediary.
Technically, it’s his departure from a software based workflow and onto (or back to) a hardware driven creative point of view.
Philosophically, it deals with the schizophrenia of our times: the late Paul Virgilio’s dromology and logistics of perception versus a decelerated life outside of cities, internet algorhythmics (sic!) versus meditation, the excessive stock market (all track titles are derivates of that world) against a tactile way of living.
Musically, it is the outcome of what Barrott himself described as his „techno album“. For people whose definition of techno has to do with speed (again) and kick drums that might seem like a misinterpretation. Listeners who remember the Artificial Intelligence and Freezone compilations, various chill out channels or Detroit’s mellow moments, will tend to agree. „Nature Sounds of the Balearics“ miraculously evokes those days and times, without breaking his neck. It is as much at home in a Caribbean water utopia between dolphins and old fishing boats as it feels current and applicable in a Ridley Scott dystopia. And if meta levels aren't your thing: it’s just a beautiful album.

Mark Barrott steps away from the Balearic sound he's become synonymous with to take a journey back to the territory he first explored with Bepu N'Gali. The Pathways Of Our Lives is a joyous, life affirming piece of 70's Afro Soul with amodern twist, continuing Barrott’s love affair with African Polyrhythms and 70’s Philly Strings.

Scott Gilmore returns to International Feel with Another Day. Following on from his "mini-masterpiece" last year, the LA musician confidently delivers four new tracks. Combining elements of 70's underground psychedelia, kosmische, and library music his music ? has the distinct air of something you might find in a dusty corner of someone?s garage? (Pitchfork).

Their sole release in late 2014 became one of the best selling on the International Feel imprint. My Past Is Your Future brings them back together for a trio of magical productions that cumulate the power of their production skills and winks at a forthcoming album coming on the imprint this summer.

Mark Barrott has been quietly making waves under numerous aliases and releases on International Feel since inception, but has, since last year's beautiful ' Sketches from an Island ' album, starting working under his own name, creating a fine body of work. 'Bush Society' sees Mark with a new sound that he wears well. Who knows how long he'll stay here, but it's a Sketches lean on a different path. A melting pot of all that is making his world go round at the moment. A field recording from his time living in South America breathes ' Bush Society ' into life, before the Goji drums and Brazilian percussion are joined by a four four groove and those Carl Craig esque strings. The flipside, ' Saviours Or Savages ' shows Barrott in deep Ibiza mode again, leaning towards the Sketches sound that was so adored last year by Balearic heads, music aficionados & new age crystal dwellers alike, but this time with a different twist. If you want to find the true melting pot of Balearic Beat currently, then this may well be one of the finest examples you are likely to hear. Pure mood music that made the island a worldwide force for thinkers and music makers alike. International Feel by name. International Feel by nature.

jose padilla - B Jose Padilla - Day One (Telephones Remix)
Legendary is a much overused word in this day and age, but legend is a word that can easily be applied to DJ and producer Jose Padilla. Alongside DJ Alfredo of Amnesia, Jose Padilla gave birth to the other side of the Balearic coin - the mellow sunset side - and in turn influenced millions of people around the globe from Madonna to DJ Harvey, whether they saw him soundtrack the sunset or just bought one of his seminal Cafe Del Mar Compilations. Padilla likes to move forwards and in the International Feel label he has found the perfect partner. After signing to the label in the winter of 2014, Padilla worked with label head and producer of note Mark Barrott, to create the slow balearic techno sounds of first single "Solito", which, complete with remixes from Wolf Müller, re-imagined his vision for new and old listeners alike. From this new beginning, the idea to work on his first album in 15 years was born, but the label wanted to do things differently. They took four of the finest producers of the moment - Wolf Müller from Germany, Mark Barrott from Ibiza, Telephones from Norway and Tornado Wallace from Australia - and flew them out to work with Padilla in Ibiza on the project. A global line up for a global sound. The first fruits of these collaborations is the new single "Day One". Produced by Henning Telephones (Resident Advisor chose his recent Running Back release as one of their best of 2014), it mixes a classic balearic sound with the 'proper' deep house of Ron Trent and Chez Damier. Layers and washes of melodies running over deep beats....something that fits the sound of "now" perfectly. If you ask Telephones why he wanted to work with Padilla he'll tell you, "As an eclectic and open-minded DJ myself, getting the opportunity to work with one of the pioneers of the Balearic sound and his approach to music didn't take much considering. Even with 30 years between us, we kinda come from the same place in a spiritual-musical sense. Plus getting the chance to put my pale Scandinavian feet on Ibiza-sand was a nice bonus. It was like being able to check out a place you remember, but only through second-hand memories. The scheduled time for the project would also fittingly conclude my perhaps most fantastic month ever, playing both Panorama Bar and Robert Johnson. So then going more or less straight to Ibiza for this project seemed like a perfect round-off to what had been a long and amazing summer for me. I also like and have a lot of respect for the uncompromising and decent way Mark runs International Feel. Him having Wolf Müller and Tornado Wallace also on-board, didn't exactly hurt either." So this very much is "Day One". A new place for Jose Padilla working with the best of the new generation of producers and a new rebirth of the original Balearic sound - aware of its roots but pushing forwards. "Day One" indeed.
