AUS Music continue to bolster an ever expanding roster BY uncovering an adroit and unique producer - the Dublin born Timothy Blake. Blake is an artist with a growing reputation, as evidenced by releases for the likes of Dirt Crew, Fatty Fatty Phonographics and Kleine Reise. For his first ever outing on AUS he teams up with man of the moment Marquis Hawkes in delivering 'The Stormy Search' EP."
Now residing in Berlin, Blake's idiosyncratic productions have been described as 'joyous freewheeling Funk' by Infinite State Machine as sounding 'like Stephen King decided to start making house music' (Trevor O'Shea Bodytonic) and also 'kinda like some lost Prince demos from an alternate world' according to Golf Channel's Dan Selzer. That goes part way to elucidating his creations and - as you'd expect from these descriptions his latest offering is a meld of jubilant synth lines, bumping 909 drums and Funk-indebted bass grooves.
Having originally made the introduction to Will Saul which eventually led to the record - Marquis Hawkes offers up a remix of the title track which he additionally co-produced. Also on remix duties of the title track - Hawkes does as he does best in dimming the tenor, driving percussion through purring tape machines and adding in the signature dose of granular soul that's been his calling card throughout releases on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Houndstooth, Clone and Créme Organisation.

After seducing the likes of Optimo, Horse Meat Disco, Rub'N'Tug and Bicep with their floor-friendly reworks of classic disco, funk and electro, the lads over at Fatty Fatty Phonographics are expanding their repertoire with their first 12 inch of original material. The man they've chosen for this mission, Tim Blake, is a Dublin born music maker with a bank of vintage keyboards and drum machines in his spare room and a full blooded romantic's heart beating in his chest. Now based in Berlin, his debut 'Heat Crime' EP came out on Kleine Reise Records, a label run by a set of Irish messers who throw some of the city's very best parties, and a track on the recent Dirt Crew Recordings 10th anniversary compilation has helped spread the word about this special talent further. 'United States of Hinterland' in its demo form was described as 'The Shit' by none other than Mad Mike Banks of Underground Resistance and you can see why - banks of emotive, UR drenched synths and pads married to overpowering piano chords, wild psychedelic guitar, crazed drum patterns and an unmistakeable 21st Century P-Funk squelch. Pablo and Shoey have their fun with the track on the flip, upping the ante with a big fat 303 assault while retaining the elements that make the original such a trip. The package is rounded off nicely with a hypnotic dub for the Dj's, not to mention 'Haunting Passion', a churning,yearning deep house roller that pushes all the right buttons for the modern dancefloor. You can imagine this one cooling the dancers off at 6am, or providing just the right soundtrack for a blissed out summer sunset moment...

An unminced declaration of desire from one luminous blue erotic body to another. On the B side we found just the creature to flip Tim's script and deliver a singular rework. The Mole burrows further than we ever expected, dragging 'Squiggles' into unexplored territory deep within his underground tunnel network and having his way with it for the length of a short film. After some years building up his studio and knowledge in the early to mid 90s, Tim began attempting to emulate the prevalent disco sounds of late 90s dance music, inadvertently developing his own sound. Later absorbing the atmospheric and stylistic influence of filmmakers such as Robert Altman, Nicolas Roeg and Brian de Palma, Tim felt inspired to make music reflecting similar moods and themes. By the mid 2000s Tim was a regular feature on Dublin's live music and DJ circuit. Love, Murder, Passion...in the heat of the night what is unresolved comes to the fore. After our maiden voyage into the unknown last spring, on our continuing expedition we find ourselves entering into the fantastical world of a bedroom jockey with a sublimely over active imagination. First on the A-side is 'Heat Crime' a dreamy half reverie that unfurled itself near the end of a late night session. Through misty intimations it gradually took shape, stirring delight in its receptive translator. In the beginning it was an unformed mood but through toil and mishap it became music. It was underived, but its cousins and aunts are the forgotten and quietly enchanting soundtracks to Ms Marple, Hercule Poirot and their ilk, who drip mystery and beauty unannounced calling the heart to attention. The second track on the A-side is 'Moon Letters' a crescent lit jazz nocturne, evoking visions of stormy seas on a far off globe, Two parts euphoria to one part melancholy, it is a highly composed piece of rave revival. Dam Swindle have been helping to define the underground house sound for a decade, not least with their Heist label. The pair deal in timeless, fad-free sounds that are rich with dance floor dynamics and hint at a love of everything from disco to tech and plenty in between. They are notorious crate diggers who have played the world's most cultured clubs, their recent track Allright (Just A Tribute) on Phonica’s 20 year celebration has received widespread love by DJ’s this summer on the festival circuit and now they offer up two more of their studio gems for their 3rd full release on Aus.

Space Dimension Controller is an intergalactic musical explorer. His sci-fi sounds paint technicolour pictures
in widescreen. Whether crafting definitive albums like Love Beyond The Intersect on R&S, club-ready EPs
for Aus and Running Back or dropping collections of unreleased tracks on his own Tiraquon Recordings, his
work sounds futuristic yet nostalgic for the past. It is fueled by funk and crafted on synths, hardware, tape
machines and various other imperfect tools that lend it a loveable character.
His Final Quest EP is a "French-inspired" release, which is an influence that predates the Space Dimension
Controller alias and goes back to Hamill's teenage years. It is also the last EP from his current studio before
it is dismantled and moved to Amsterdam sometime this summer.
From start to finish, this new EP showcases Hamill's ability to craft emotionally evocative melodies and
genuinely absorbing soundtracks. Opener 'Jet Free' is awash with filtered synths that are sugary sweet and
underpinned by funky guitar riffs and laissez-faire grooves. The wonderful 'Cryfaze' has rueful pads spiralling
around sleek drums that bounce along next to supple neon arps, while 'Tiraquon's Final Quest' is a bubbling
and elastic rhythm run through with soft acid squelches and pixelated pads full of cosmic charm. '1 4 U' rides
on heavier drums but is no less joyous thanks to the crystalline melodies and dreamy vocals that swell the
heart. Vinyl exclusive 'Acid Funk Sequel' is another playful moon safari with buoyant bass patterns and
snappy drum funk under ever-evolving melodic refrains and 'Beyond2' closes down with forlorn, introspective

Mark Hawkins readies ‘Venn Diagram’ album for Aus Music this May.
Mark Hawkins’ early releases on labels such as Djax Up Beats and Ugly Funk lit flares in the world of
underground techno, with a sense of humour and tougher-than-thou sonic palette enforced via his jacking live
sets. Across the following decades, Mark has delivered razor sharp cuts that encompass pretty much
anything that has an electronic heart - leaving his own unique trail for others to follow via his work for labels
as diverse as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Sonic Mind, Mistress Recordings, Houndstooth and Aus.
With his latest album, it feels like Mark has pushed ahead with a change of direction he started with 2021’s
‘The New Normal’. ‘Venn Diagram’ carries on this journey into uncharted lands; molten, distorted drum
assaults weave around glistening melodies, kitchen sink soul glides below fractured sound pools. Opener
‘Verblex Oscillos’ immediately demands your attention grabbing, with a so-happy-it’s-sad melody spiralling
around a cascade of tough-as-fuck dance floor destroying beats, along with ‘Isolated’s urgent combination of
strings, acid and chicago-tough electro beats.
Other cuts on the album share a similar approach, ‘Maladayfun Friction’s restless energy derives from a fusion
of skittering drums and deranged synths and ‘Still Have Time’s dreamy super saw pads and plaintive vocal
espouse a kind of wasted elegance, roaming the city nightlife in a Gucci dress and Doc Martin boots.
‘Nlasckhdsjk’ and ‘Frederikalstublieft’ propel forward with such a sleek and effervescent aesthetic, recalling
fast drives along picturesque European highways or heady take-offs to unknown urban territories. The
aesthetic becomes more elegant on the album’s centrepoint tracks ‘Rebula Conundrum’ and ‘Nlasckhdsjk’,
where optimistic bleeps, bass and 707 drums underpin jazzy chords and soaring leads.
Other tracks show the arc of Mark’s direction of travel, with soulful vocals that share a well of deep-rooted
optimism that was so evident on his breakthrough 2016 Social Housing album. ‘L.O.V.E.’ breaks into

Fresh off the back of her recent DJ Kicks compilation release and an EP for Shall Not Fade in 2021, Cinthie returns to Will Saul’s Aus imprint for her first EP release of 2022, once again delivering her raw, energetic House sound to the world. Title-cut ‘Light A Fire’ leads the way and lays down organic drums, hypnotic vocal lines and choppy stab sequences alongside bumpy bass tones, intricately unfolding synth swells, resonant bleeps, and dynamic delays, resulting in a big sun-drenched anthem to perfectly set the tone. ‘Keeping Strong’ follows next and employs classic House tropes via gritty string stabs, plucked bass notes and dubbed out vocal cuts, running atop skippy, swinging drums for six and a half minutes. ‘Everything’ then rounds out the release, diving deeper this time as Cinthie employs dubbed out chords, weighty subs, crunchy percussion, and cinematic, elongated strings swells, concluding the release with a smooth, emotive feel.
