Lyra Pi from DeWalta is a longplayer with 5 synthesizer and score-like modern ambient works that mark the first release of a new series by Meander. The Meander Horizon Pi Series is a departure from the labels well known dancefloor releases.

This record is also the second part of the complementary Lyra album-project. The full album contains a double LP (Lyra) on Meander as well as this Lyra Pi LP.

The 180 gram vinyl record comes in a special package, containing a handmade see-through screen-printed PVC sleeve, plus an insert card with artwork. Combined with the separately available Lyra double LP customers can create a 3LP box set.

Lyra is a star-constellation in the northern hemisphere which is highest in the midnight sky in the early summer months. It contains one of the brightest stars in the sky - Vega. Many of the songs on this album were produced during these warm and gentle months during an inspirational creative time in Portugal.

In Greek mythology, Lyra represents the Lyre of Orpheus, Apollo’s son. Made by Hermes from a tortoise-shell, it was given to Apollo who then passed it along to Orpheus. It is said to be the first music instrument ever made.

Lyra is DeWaltas fourth large solo-project and third full-length solo-album following Wander in 2012 (on Haunt), llumination in 2014 (on Meander) and Dark Matter in 2017 (on Amphia) besides „Residual“ a collaboration-album with Mike Shannon.

The album consists of two individually available parts: a double LP (Lyra) with 6 tracks on Meander as well as a single LP (Lyra Pi) with 5 synth and ambient works. The Ambient-Part launches a new Meander Horizon Pi series-- a departure from Meander’s well known dancefloor releases.

Lyra is by far DeWaltas most extensive and refined project to date. With 11 exclusive songs, a total running time of over 100 minutes - plus a collaboration with long time friend and Meander co-owner Fabian Geimer-Lorusso aka. Jupiter - it marks a new beginning of ambient and score-like modern electronic music works as well as the continuation of his inspired intellectual-emotional approach to dance music.

Illumination is a record inspired by several physical phenomenons and relationships, quantum mechanics, space, darkness and light. It is a body of work focusing on complex sound frequency experimentations and illuminating questions around consciousness as well as awareness - triggered by deep emotions about being a human - reacting to sound and music. It works with subtle, clear kaleidoscopic musical textures and silhouettes triggered from an unknown place far out in the universe. Just as Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell has experienced the zen-like experience of seeing earth from space to a state of mind also known as the overview effect, or Savikalpa Samadhi, some eastern philosophies address the same topic from a different angle. Two objects, even far apart from each other in space can be energetically entangled and connected. Darkness is absence of light. Life and energy is light. Light is invisible until it surfaces. As much as it´s fun to read a personal text, it´s a pain for the artist himself (or at least for me) to write or say something about my music. Don't get me wrong, i like these personal texts. They support the release in a nice way, but having to talk about my music or style always seems awkward and it happens too much in interviews anyway. So one thing is for sure: i am not going to explain my music, my "style", tag it with some kind of genre or give an idea or explanation with words, what kind of music it is or how it sounds. If you want to get an idea, simply listen to the Tracks.
Now. Since i won't be talking about music, I thought I´d give you a brief idea of what was going on in my brain and what I was thinking, reading and researching lately about the world, the human thought, physical, nonphysical and metaphysical things. This record, the "Thinkers EP" was heavily inspired by these thoughts and research.
I stumbled upon an essay about metaphysics, which caught my interest so i started researching. Metaphysics looks at the things behind ("meta") the physical appearance and its relationship to the non-physical appearance. It asks questions about existence, objects and beings and their properties, about time and space, cause and effect as well as possibility.
During the time i was working on this music i especially read about Plato and his approach to metaphysics. He, as Socrates student started to implemented and respect the physical world in philosophy, other then Socrates who said everything physical is irrelevant and only a shadow of an ideal, "the perfect" (non-physical).

"Saluki" starts straight with a crafty bass driven smooth rocket and build it's self up alongside a guiding piano loop to reach very atmospheric frictions. Soft choir singing here and there, various dub sounds brushing in the space, bringing all sound aficionados into a beautiful ride. DeWalta's crispy rhythms are eventually fading out into melancholic and moving Detroitish strings, to complete this unique piece of music. Wonderful energetic dance music with well integrated rhythmic and melodic structures. Cristi Cons is a romanian musician from known [a:rpia:r] who also runs his own Amphia imprint. Lifelong studies in classical music as a cellist have sharpened his sensitivities for unique harmonies and a good ear for sounds. Impossible Rendez-Vous is an hypnotic and meandering house excursion by swing maestro Guillaume and his jazzed out Coutu Dumonts. From the funked up and highly danceable heat of A1 to the spaced-out drum ornaments and rider-on-the-stormesque keys of A2, the wriggly run of this record finally flows over into a deep slow burner on the B side - atmospheric elegance. Guillaumes inimitable expertise for intuitive dance patterns made him a well seen suspect on neat labels like Circus Company, Hartchef Discos, Karat, Oslo, Mutek or Vincent Lemieuxs Musique Risquée. Long in the making this EP is the logical continuation of a longtime friendship between Guillaume and the Meander gang. "Everything in good time" was the slogan on this one and Impossible Rendez-Vous seems to bring together elements that would have, otherwise, been pulled apart by gravity and time. This debut on Meander certainly shapes great things to come.

The Meander label presents us a new signing to their family with a powerful record from Ion Ludwig. 3 songs on vinyl, including a DeWalta rework and another remix as a digital bonus. The vinyl comes with beautiful artwork. After playing the sunday residency at legendary Club der Visionäre in Berlin for the last two years alongside other Meander members, it was just a matter of time until the very talented young Dutch producer joins the roster. Releasing a well received album with timeless house music on his own imprint Quagmire in 2010, he's now back in 2011 with pretty charming new music. These tracks have a deep dynamik, all produced with a remarkable flow and energy. The track Background Be is like a purely rhythmic and emotional journey filled with chords and strings coming from an unexpected place. Suddenly the whole dramaturgy becomes an expedition trip that catches and obliges us to listen with delicate fascination and pure euphoria. The body starts to let loose when the peak arrives. What a pleasure not being able to escape. DeWalta has put his hands on this profound original material and made two reworks of it. His Background Be Private Remix is wandering deep in a dynamik soundroom, with little sounds making a walk full of light. Are there bells? A synthesizer? When the atmosphere changes, like clouds stealing the sun, the strings condensed like lava make the gravity more intense. We are walking in dubs and the feet feel heavier. Timeless Thing. A traverse flute blows in the wind and becomes a voice. It's not whispering. It's a slightly open mouth telling and seducing. " It's this timeless thing everyone talked about".
