Marcellus Pittman's is back with his second EP of 2018 on his own Unirhythm Records. The jewel here is Pittman's 2007 acidic masterpiece "There's Somebody Out There" getting the edit treatment from Chicago's Jamie 326, who whips the original into a hypnotic bender. "Something Like (A Dream)" is an upbeat key-driven vocal house cut in Pittman's flowing style with bits of vocals floating over the mix. "Breathe Beat" is a low key bouncer stripped down to the raw elements with floating synths hovering over a minimal shuffling beat.

Underground house heads will very much be familiar with this tune. It has been circulating as a white label owned only by the coolest and most connected cats and now Detroit badman Marcellus Pittman does the right thing and gives it an official pressing on his own Unirhythm label. A-side jam 'Pick Yourself Up' (feat Crystal Procedures) is dusty, loopy, trippy house with swirling vocals adding to the late night feel, then 'Ode 2 Juan' slows things down to smoky basement house vibes with melancholic pads bringing hints of light to the muggy atmosphere.

Adeen Records is on a roll right now and this time out they welcome the Detroit hero that is Marcellus Pittman for a new and beguiling four-track 12". Known for his work with The 3 Chairs collective as well as his solo jams, this Motor City mainstay opens up with 'You Always Hank Bank One Time' which is a real mental maze of rickety loops and blurts of degraded synth. 'Another Spring Lover' is another rusty and lo-fi piece of archetypal Detroit house that is very clearly machine music but with a unique sense of human soul. 'I'm Gonna Be The Everything' is a raw drum track with sparse, heartwarming chords and 'Slick Nickle Pladium Investment' is a knackered downbeat hip-hop closer. Magnificent.

The 12th Downbeat release comes from the south east of Ireland.
Alan Smith is a producer from Waterford with tracks released on D1 Recordings and Elusive Recordings who loves the analogue sound of 90´s and the sound of Detroit.
"Bump together ep" is one super complete release halfway between House music and Techno, Detroit and Sheffield, and between dancefloors and futuristic chillout which owns all the aesthetic parameters that a Downbeat release should be.
Alan delivers a 4 track Ep with hidden, delicate and subtle melodies, minimalist structures and an excellent job with percussion and mixdown.
But if there is one word to describe this release it is "Deep". Layers of synthetic pads, creative basslines and hi-hats in motion provide deepness to this solid release.

Since the beginning we can see an evolution in Jose Rico ´s music. His sound is now more powerful than ever and the structure of his tracks have gained in complexity. The rhythms of his tracks, highly influenced by Chicago House and Detroit in his earlier releases, now are looking at the European 90 ´s electro´nica and dub music, slowing down (even more) the tempo. We can say that the his last releases on Into the the Deep and Off Minor are probably his best works and most mature, so far. “De´ja` Vu”, the 11th Downbeat installment, continues to explore this route. Here we find four emotional and spacey tracks, made by old synths and samplers which takes us back to the early 90 ´s.

Do machines have soul?? Jose Rico and Urtzi bring us the 7th Downbeat release, paying homage to Science fiction and exploring the relation between human beings and machines. The result is a solid exercise of researching with hardware, which brings all the label influences. Jose Rico is the responsible of "Flight to Andrómeda" and "Hiperspace", two obsessive, mechanical but full-of-feeling tracks. Moreover, Urtzi introduces himself with "Ouroboros" and "Terra Luminae", two synthetic tracks with influences from Chicago sound. Four dance music tracks which go straight to the heart and brain.
