A few words by Steffen Bennemann: »When I heard Margot for the first time, I instantly fell in love with their synth-driven free- form kraut-techno. Strong melodies, insanely well-shaped beats, sometimes driving, sometimes bravely bending the rules. After great releases on James Holden's Border Community, Ivan Smagghe's Kill The DJ and their own label we were more than happy to welcome them in our Holger family. Here they can show their more experimental side, far beyond common floor/listening conventions and full of synapse-tickling synth magic. Plus a secret pop hit (Trentaseitrenta), perfect for closing any exceptional club night.«

A1 Amore a Bordo Pista
A2 Amore a Bordo Pista (Dauwd Remix)
B1 Salsce
B2 Salsce (Kiwi Remix)
Contemporary Italo-Disco and foggy Rave culture mark Margot's first 12" on Life and Death, Amore a Bordo Pista - a welcomed surprise.
Machines breathe on A1, where throbbing synth-bass meets timeless vocoder, as premiered on DJ Tennis' Essential Mix debut. The afterparty and warehouse meld on the flip, a mind-bending time-warp - somewhere between panic and introspection.
Technicolour signee, Dauwd, aces his re-depicton of the title track, hinting at golden-era Chain Reaction, while Kiwi slows down Salsce, retaining all of its drive, adding further cosmic brushstrokes.
Four weapons of the mind, a trippy affair.

margot - Waldorf (Erol Alkan's Extended Rework)
Les Disques De La Mort is the new and highly anticipated label from Ivan Smagghe & The Ginger Prince. Their first release is by the true originals Rimini maestros Margot, featuring a spellbinding remix courtesy the one and only Erol Alkan. Previously released as a very limited white label, this ecstatic 12" now gets a full release!! Margot who have previously released on luminaries such as Kill The DJ, Border Community and Hell Yeah!, are now given the esteemed honors of opening the Les Disques De La Mort coffin, and we could not have picked up better caretakers. Their Club Mix is an over-fast, Detroit infused earth-shaker, it sparseness balanced with a Franck Tovey / Soft Cell vocal romp sung in an undistinguishable language. The Original version on the inside cut is even more evocative of Marc Almond but shredded backwards through a blender, and slowed down to an almost eighties electronic glam beat. On the flip, Erol Alkan reworks the original to epic proportions. Erol has been a huge fan of Margot (he compiled them on his Bugged Out! "Inside" cd) and his admiration comes to life in a respectful but transcendental interpretation. Managing to combine elements of both versions, Erol then adds his own unique production magic and a transmogrifying piano line (dare we say "italo rave"?) that lifts the whole affair to new heights. This record has already been championed by Andrew Weatherall, James Holden, Erol Alkan, Optimo, Red Axes and Ivan Smagghe...

Few words from ivan smagghe to introduce this release : KTDJ met the Margot guys through James Holden who released their first ep. I first heard the epic trance cheese-athon (mature cheese) of magic disco in one of his sets and I felt love. This was fast, delirious, vocodered fluff. Blew me away. James being busy with making the best lp of the last ten years, he passed the baby to us and to our joy. The boys from Rimini (oh yes), brought up in the mecca of italian house but calling their first ep Goblin, covering Soft Cell's Torch and being, as myself, Franco Battiato fans (Bandera Bianca really reminds of them) fitted in perfectly with our plans. Only their mental output made it quite hard to pick up the tracks for the ep. Spoiled we were. Spoiled we are. Spoiled you are. Magico Disco is a non-clicheed homage to Moroder, remixed to great effect by Tel Aviv's Red Axes who bring the tempo down, add their cramps licks but never lose the spaced-outness of the original for their Medical diso remix. Castel is like MD's little brother, a 80 bpm vocoder short shot in space. My sisters and Rockstep show brilliantly the rockier side of Margot, like breakbeat eighties crosses between kraut and house, grunge synths rising. totally fascinating and hard to describe, escapes from all boxes. Voice Chord could seem like a more straightforward club track, but it is spaaaaaaaaced out, believe me. Early (but solid) support by Andrew Weatherall, Tim Paris, My Favorite Robot etc... Finally, I Got is like Moodyman taking acid and being chopped up in a meat grinder. These tracks show the amazing scope of Margot's invention. We have not heard the last of them but this should be enough to leave you drooling for more.

Perm is one of Leipzig's most busy producers and performers of electronic music. After releases on shtum, Mana All Nite, DUR, KANN and Nachtdigital in recent years, Holger is more than happy to welcome him with a four-tracker that o ers a deep insight into his vision of timeless Techno: Airy and yet rmly grounded, with a foggy atmosphere that permeates a vast space of sound. It is trippy and hypnotic but also very bodily and highly energetic. With these qualities it ts very nicely with Holger 11 (Polo) and 12 (Barnt) – a perfect closer for this mini triplet series, a concept that has become sort of a trademark for the label.

After gracing Holger with one of his signature remixes about two years ago (Holger 6: The Moonland Remixes), Barnt now returns with two of his own works, the first ones since his widely acclaimed debut LP of 2014. Side A features an etheral composition in five parts - accurately titled »A-Seite 1-5« - while Side B displays Barnt's idosyn- cratic version of techno at its best: »If She Says She Is A Healer, She Is A Healer«. Unmistakably the man from Magazine, yet in surprising new garments - and another perfect match for Holger.

Holger #10 introduces yet another new face to the ever growing label crew: Chino has been one of the most busy live performers in Poland for the last decade – playing all-hardware sets in clubs and at festivals on a weekly basis. His »HISS« EP is a true Acid treasure and Holger’s most decisive step into proper club territory. »Worker« and »Paper Rider« are two bass-heavy dancefloor belters, with strong kickdrums and synapse-tickling 303 lines. The flipside shows two more of Chino’s many facets: While »31.08.« is a slow-burning Dubtechno hypnosis, »Shifter« closes the EP with moody Electro. Mastered by Ruud Lekx, also known as the legend that is Rude 66.

dream weapons - Moonland (Jens-Uwe Beyer Remix)
Dream Weapons' »Moonland« from his »Pathways EP« (Holger 3, 2014) has been a favorite of many. Accordingly, remix duties were given into the trustworthy hands of Barnt and Jens-Uwe Beyer – two of the co-founders of much acclaimed Cologne label Magazine. An expert in mixing and structuring, Barnt carves out the hidden capabilities of the original while Jens-Uwe Beyer takes a slightly more humorous but no less feet-moving approach to things. Weirdo techno in typical Magazine/Holger style.

A few words by Steffen Bennemann: »I was in loose contact with Aggelos (Dream Weapons) for a few years, watching him from a distant with great interest. In 2012, he sent me his debut LP on Inner Ear under his Fantastikoi Hxoi moniker and it quickly became my favourite album of the year. When I told him our plans for Holger he sent me some of his more electronic-leaning music. I was instantly captured by the driving, trippy kraut techno songs which show homage to the psychedelic sounds of the 60s and 70s while holding their own in the here and now. Exactly our cup of tea.«

A few words by Steffen Bennemann: »When the Webermichelson guys introduced us to Timoka, we didn't even dare to hope he would ever join a start-up label like Holger. His work just sounded way beyond that, so sophisticated and well produced, highly artistic and melodically complex. But as it turned out he not only became a part of our family - he even went on to define our graphic identity (together with Reymund Schröder) with his visual art. We couldn't dream of a better match. Plus: Aare is a hit (even if Timoka hates to hear that).
