Peak & Swift’s first full EP and no surprise it’s on Renate Schallplatten. The Berlin based duo drops some heavy bass lines with storyline synths on the A1 Floppy, taking you to a time when you were high on the dance floor; your eyes closed, the lights still shining through your lids. The bells ring in angelic exasty rounding off the title track to be a sure instant classic named after their party series Floppy Drive. The EP embodies 90’s dance culture. Marlon Hoffstadt pumps up the drive and adds the depth that only a seasoned raver could reference, making you feel like a Sonic the hedgehog speed walk. First track on the B-side, Aurora, is the kind of music you would hear in a 90’s sci-fi B-movie where the soundtrack aged better than the movie. The EP is rounded off with Gonzo, a vintage house production from the duo hailing to 90’s legend Torsten Fenslau.

Renate Schallplatten's eighth release comes from Michal Zietara with Olympia Europa. The four-track EP, the Polish-born, Bavaria-raised, Berlin-based Renate resident's solo debut features three originals plus a remix from Ian Pooley.

Opener "Mr. Joy" is a late-night uptempo jam with a punchy bassline and warm pads. Chopped vocal samples come to the fore around the breakdown, raising the tension for maximum euphoria upon the beats' return. Ian Pooley's flowing remix on the A2 is in the signature '90s filter house style. The vocals lead the way, adding some warmth to a rather stripped-back affair. It's another peak-time cut that makes you want to close your eyes and move to the music. The punchy beats and upbeat melodies return on "Euro Robot," this time paired with intricate drums, fluttering vocals, and high-pitched keys. Closer "Pink Seal" is more downtempo and pensive, centered around coherent vocals and smooth pads. The beats feature less prominently, even fading away after a brief midsection. It's a cerebral track; a moment of self-reflection in an otherwise upbeat, high-energy EP.

The EP is Renate Schallplatten's second of 2019, following Longhair's label debut. Earlier EPs have landed from Moscoman, Sebastian Voigt, Wareika, and more.

Next on Berlin’s Renate Schallplatten is Longhair, a project formed by Marko Pelaic and Benedikt Bogenberger, two residents of Berlin’s Wilde Renate. Mangostine, a four-tracker, follows last year’s 12” on Dutch label Bordello A Parigi and a track contribution on House Is OK. It lands with an Axel Boman remix.

The EP opens with the title track, its name drawn from the exotic fruit. Over a brooding bassline we hear light, fluttering melodies and uplifting keys, creating a peak-time roller that’ll put smiles on faces across the dancefloor. “Pans & Pots,” the A2, starts as a darker affair with trippy vocal samples and fluttering drum patterns, before warm keys and intricate instrumentation lift the mood to make for a fun-filled jam peak-hours feel-good jam. On the flip, Studio Barnhus head Axel Boman reworks the title track into a more subtle, deeper cut; the melodies remain but in the background, replaced at the forefront by tribal drums and abstract vocals. Closer “Aquamen,” meanwhile, opens as a straight-edged techno cut with a heavy bassline and fluttering snares, before playful keys and intermittent sci-fi samples add some texture. It’s another late-night jam that’ll lift the energy without ever being too forceful.

The release is Renate Schallplatten’s first since 2017’s various artist compilations. Earlier EPs have landed from Moscoman, Sebastian Voigt, Wareika, and more.

Three Yacht Rock killers on acid backed by a larger than life remix from Lithuanian madman, Manfredas. Moscoman takes you on a hazy voyage to visit his "Girls Down South" for some good times involving 40 ounce malt beverages and maybe a taste of his finest wacky tobacky. Following that is one of Mosco's first ever productions, "Deluded Heart" featuring dreamy, mdmaesque synth action galore. Flip the cassette tape and you find "De?voue?" where Mosco puts the top down on his Chevy Malibu and shows us how smooth his oscillations can get. As you chug along the coast of the mind's eye, you can help but think, "Either the car is speaking to me or I ate to many gel tabs at the last rest stop." When you let the needle keep running, be prepared for a behemoth of a remix by Manfredas featuring gypsy soloists playing bootlegged oriental instruments chopped up in a sampler he bought at a yard sale in 1992. Short info: Sebastian Voigt, cult leader of Lokee Musik and resident record slinger of the illustrious Salon - Zur wilden Renate presents a four track EP on Renate Schallplatten. The release includes two original tracks featuring different vocalists, plus remixes by Permanent Vacation and Good Guy Mikesh. All tracks were produced, tested and approved in Berlin's favourite madhouse, Wilde Renate. Enjoy... In his own words, Sebastian explains:
"These tracks were made shortly after i moved into my new studio right above the main dancefloor at Renate, where I also play regularly. So saying that the Renate vibes were an inspiration for this EP is a bit of an understatement. The overall aim of this EP (if there was any) was to make music that I would like to hear played in the club. I was introduced to Hllywd through a common friend and when he came down for a first session we just started recording while he was improvising over a track I had been working on. Most of the vocals you can hear in 'Chapter One' are from that first take. The piece with Angela came together in a similar fashion. I had been listening to a lot of 80s stuff like Chris and Cosey at that time, which gave me the initial inspiration for the track. When Angela came to the studio we started jamming together, and a first draft of 'Out Of Sight' was finished that same day."
