Hodge is a man of truly Well Rounded talents - creating infectious melody laden deep house with Outboxx, across to his own weighty bruk-techno movers for the likes of Deadplate Records, to his recent truly forward-thinking collaboration with the ever inspirational Pev. Here however we wanted to showcase some of the more unconventional ideas he incorporates into that original yet essentially house & techno related direction of his. After discussion we discovered this was somewhat inspired by science fiction novels. And why not? 'Holographic Prose' opens proceeding, skittering about in an anti-gravity atmosphere the bass literally 'comes up' in this. Fluttering melodies and wooshing chords over a piston-driven rhythm builds the tension until all electronic heaven breaks loose on deserving dancefloors. 'Pressure''s stargazing synths create a feeling of awe and wonder like hovering crafts in the sky. Meanwhile down on the planet's surface the sounds of industry and construction echo in the night.
'Monster' is a soulful drift down a river of bass. Synths bubble up to the surface under the measured melody. A meloncholy mood given movement.
Finally, and by no means least, is the resplendent 'Slowing Behaviour'. How such a heavy kick and a feeling of weightlessness compliment each other here is excellent. If you tune in to this track - there is always a sense of gradual ascension. We're heading for the next level. Can you feel it? We hope to take you with us as we break free from certain dancefloor constraints.

About time ! As you can imagine, we’ve been fans of Hodge since… forever ?
A true force of nature and Bristol legend, we’ve fondly witnessed him display the kind of range we love here at Timedance, covering everything from bouncy House to mind-warping peak time Techno via kaleidoscopic declinations of the future facing Bristol bass sound.
This long overdue debut on the label displays three jaw dropping numbers. Harvested for maximum stroboscopic efficiency, this EP is packed with Hodge’s anthemic signature hooks, bass weight for days and a truly singular approach to a forward rave sound.
Summoning sirens from space, laser guided Grime-Tech and intoxicating explorations into peak time tempos, « Voice Crash » stands as the perfect sonic portrayal of a producer we have revered for years and Timedance’s very own mission statement. More

Since his last appearance on Hemlock (2015's double EP HEK025) Hodge has produced a seemingly effortless sequence of celebrated EPs and collaborations for Livity Sound, Berceuse Heroique and No Corner. Equally comfortable squaring up with heavyweights such as Randomer and Peder Mannerfelt as he is maintaining a prolific solo production output; Hodge has cemented himself as a leading voice in UK dance music and a champion of the elusive sweet spot where functional techno resonates with soundsystem culture. A quick listen through his recent RA mix is a great way to keep up to speed with his recent output: https://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=581
One for the Hemlock fans who have been patiently tolerating this year's more experimental cuts. 'Swing for the Fences' is straight down to business getting the kicks in below one of those ear-wormer percussive atonal toplines Hodge does so well… the drop is one of the heaviest we've heard this year and tipped to raise some fingers, open mouths and spill drinks across dancefloors and TV studios worldwide.
Less pool cue more pool party 'Aomame' is a breezy melodic (patio) heater powered by tough drums and intricate percussive work. Arranged for both the dancers and the heads it freely refreshes and translates the main theme with a precision and playfulness that few producers can match.
'Medway' will warm up or cool out the dance with big room sirens and some rude detuned drum work. Still no messing about on the B2: It's a Hodge thing all the way. More

Hodge brings his percussive A-game to Livity Sound for a new three track EP. His first solo release on the label since the anthemic 'Amor Fati', this new record bristles with his irrepressible energy and signature dancefloor dynamics.

Punch Drunk proudly closes 2013 with a fearsome new 12” single from Hodge. This release marks his first solo release on the label following up his collaboration with Peverelist entitled ‘Bells’, which appeared earlier this year. Previous releases for Deadplate and Well Rounded Housing Projects have been well received, but we believe that this new record is certainly his best to date. On these two new tracks, Hodge draws on distinctly UK influences combining thumping broken jungle techno and modern era Bristolian dub aesthetics. Kicking off the 12”, “Resolve” is a real belter, rugged, visceral and pumped with attitude and adrenaline. On the other side, Prototype Fear delves deeper into the psyche, with shifting hypnotic machine riffing, frenetic nervous rhythms and unearthly bass pulses. Hodge has recently achieved great success with his House based project Outboxx with collaborators Matt Lambert and vocalist Naomi Jeremy, culminating in an album this year on Bristol’s Idle Hands label and a summer touring festivals and clubs throughout Europe. This record is a landmark 12” in defining Hodge as an artist in his own right, whilst adding another classic to the Punch Drunk legacy of hybrid electronic dance music from Bristol.

Leon Vynehall, - Untitled 017
Leon Vynehall returns to Well Rounded's Housing Project label after the success last year of his debut EP 'Mauve' EP for us. This was quickly followed with 'Gold Language' on George Fitzgerald's Man Make Music imprint. With this third release we have returned to the structure of our first release together to bring you too wicked examples of his original take on house with a final track to send you on your way bathed in psychedelic sunshine vibes. How Leon manages to combine ruff edges with smooth vibes is a talent in itself. First track 'Untitled 017' has all the chopped up crunchy vocal hooks needed to catch your ears plus Leon's trademark hi-hats and reigned-in rhythmic tricks. However these are offset by a bubbling beauty of a bassline, gorgeous chords, addictive melodic phrases and a rolling percussion sound that sounds like wire brushes on hollow steel. This is catchy and idiosyncratic house music – taking familiar formulas and finding fresh ways forward. Flip for 'Title #7' which compliments the A side perfectly. Deep classic piano chords and a warm elastic bass, hovering strings that conjoure haze on a distant horizon, it's a joyous assembly of individual sounds and hits coalescing into a soulful satisfying whole. Nothing's too obvious here, but it all feels instinctively right.
Finally 'Rosalind' is a short soundtrack to a cosmic love affair that leaves a lasting impression, of happiness, unity, peace and serenity. And outer space! ;)

We came across this vocal track with a difference and were compelled to share it with your ears. Videodrome are a Brighton-based production duo who with have created something that seems at once very familiar but also strikingly different. The highly distinctive almost demonic vocal delivery of Derek Meins is here in all it?s lascivious glory riding a top a bold as brass synth-pop / retro-house hybrid with pure pop appeal. Oh yes. Donga & Blake take the track into trademark deeper territory on the remix. Support from Martyn, Mary Anne Hobbs, Francesco Farfa, DJ MA1, Benji B, Hackman, xxxy & more.

The proposition is a simple one. It was a 2009 when Julio Bashmore first remixed ‘Heartbreaker’ from Deadboy’s classic first release - the ‘U Cheated’ EP on Well Rounded. He remoulded the garage template of the original into something more immediate, replacing the swung off-beats of the original with driving forward-rhythms and a clarity of purpose that takes absolutely nothing away from the musical impact of the original. This circulated on MP3 and we smiled and danced. Unexpectedly, in 2010 JB returned to ‘Heartbreaker’ for a different interpretation. This time around a more haunting approach was the order of the day with cross-fading strings creating a soulful, otherworldly atmosphere. The drop this time also swapped sub bass for punchy 808s. A tantalising further alternative that pointed the way to this vinyl release. Back 2 back timeless brilliance for the dancefloor on our favourite format. Get stuck in.
