Ma Spaventi makes a slick return to Slow Motion Records with the captivating ‘Tornerò’.

Descending arps trickle into ‘Tornerò’ from the get-go. Vocoded vocals flutter through the masterful mix, weaving into inviting synth swells. Defined drums are firmly felt across this record.

‘Non Ce L’Hai Solo Tu’ is a Detroit-infused, fierce floor filler. Layering vocoder motifs with crisp synth stabs make for many a euphoric payoff. The intelligent entwining of electro, early Detroit house and Ma Spaventi’s effortless earworms are plentiful. His gift for haunting, strong melodic intonation is prevalent in ‘Costa Brava.’ A grounded, growling bassline rasps throughout the track, reeling you further and further into this whirlpool of brilliance.

Ma Spaventi is a wonderfully versatile artist. Over his decade-long career, the Italian musician has turned his capable hand to everything from ambient to techno. Once again, he is expanding his sound palette and challenging expectations with Vicino Lontano.

Across eight tracks, an array of ideas and influences are explored with additional guitar work coming care of Odeon’s Michele Righini. The reflective hues of “Solitario” give way to the warming strings and peaceful brightness of “Crepuscolo.” Written and produced in Amsterdam between 2017 and 2019, beautiful memories of the past are the source of inspiration. Radiating Summer sunshine bathes “Bring Me Back” in a comforting glow, while “Velvet Lights” teases rhythm sections with thick bass lines and shimmering synth work. Moments of introspection arrive in the elegant gliding forms of “Bomber” and “Intermezzo.” The rumbling “End Line” finds harmony amongst a spread of styles, cascading chords and rich textures, all combining beautifully. A year after his debut album "Viaggi", Amsterdam based italian Marco Antonio Spaventi is back with another fine full length statement. Entitled "Isola Sommersa" and landing on M>O>S Recordings, it follows up after many great EPs on the label over the last five years. Spaventi has a passion for old school house but always brings it up to date. Using hardware tools like a natural extension of his body, he cooks up rugged grooves, nostalgic moods and smoky atmospheres that cocoon you in sound of its own. As well as releasing on other labels like Slow Motion, Secretsundaze, Pizzico Records and Cos_Mos, he is also an acclaimed production wizard and runs his own professional studio. Long the way here, Spaventi dips his toes into various waters with equal success. There are spaced out and invitingly warm grooves such as the rubbery ‘Tape Noodles’, blissful ambient interludes like ‘Undisclosed’ and serene synth passages filled with retro future beauty such as the closer ‘Titanic Moments.’ Cuts like ‘Simple Mind’ prove this artist can conjure up genuine feelings of internal reflection as well as raw physical drum lines, and ‘Best Regards’ is a tantalisingly go slow bit of cosmic house that erupts into a fluid acid track. Though Chicago and Detroit are obvious reference points, Spaventi always develops his own ideas with a refreshing vibe. It makes for an album that is house at its heart, but also one that is ambitious, absorbing and widescreen in the way it is executed. More

Ahead of him releasing a full length album on MOS in 2016, key label artist MarcoAntonio Spaventi is teasing us with a three track Prelude EP. Spaventi hails from Italy, but is based in Amsterdam, and is someone who deals in misty, Chicago referencing house sounds that are loaded up with a real sense of analogue jack. As well as on MOS he releases on Slow Motion, Most Excellent NY and Pizzico Records, and in summer 2015 he put out a leftfield electro, Italo, soundtrack and disco full length, Viaggi, that showed he has great range in the studio. Here, though, he has his focus on the dance floor. ‘Missing Sunlight’ is rueful and tender, deep and absorbing with soft drums and molten synths soothing mind, body and soul. ‘Falla!’ is again perfectly smooth and serene, tunnelling deep into the universe on a rolling drum line and with gurgling machines bubbling away in the foreground. Finally, ‘Balla!’ ups the ante and is more driven, with acid lines freewheeling up and down as firmly planted kicks power the whole thing along. Full fat but still sprinkled with cosmic dust, it is a track that makes the wait for the album that bit more tantalising. More

MA SPAVENTI, a Roman, now based in Amsterdam, has been around for a minute; his trio R-A-G (with Aroy Dee and Gijs Poortman, a.k.a.
Gstring) has been recording refined, classicist house and techno on an all-analog kit since 2010. Marked by tough drums, swirling pads, and a
willingness to veer into pure, beatless ambient territory, their records are formally purist without scrimping on a sense of mystery. Spaventi's solo work so far has suggested that he may be the tough guy of the bunch; his singles "Wrecking," "The Jungle," and "Insanity" skipped over all niceties in favor of brute 909 snares and scrappy synth work. His 2012 single "Baia," meanwhile — co-produced with Secretsundaze's James Priestley — was a cubby, sax-infused tribute to Balearic house. Now Spaventi is back with two new Eps that demonstrate how versatile he really is. Revolver, Most Excellent Unlimited's inaugural release, is something of a Swiss army knife for DJs planning to venture into the wilderness. There's a melancholic, mid-tempo house number, "The Sick Tape Dealer,"that's lit with a crystalline glow. There's "Slowmo," a loping opener that suffuses an andante house groove in queasy Giallocore tones. "Revolver," the record's fastest cut, balances strapping snares and insistent open hi-hats with dreamy chords; it sits on the fence between placid and acid, just the thing for tipping the night into full gear. And the slow-motion tearjerker "La Valle Delle Lacrime"comes in two versions — one with a skeletal drum machine and a beatless edit that revels in the simplicity of his analog synths. Luxuriating in ringing fifths with just a hint of Theremin-like warble, it's an unusually sturdy example of ethereal ambient techno. On remix duties, the prolific Mark E delivers a deep, atmospheric, slow burner in the vein of his recent PROJECT E work. The "Revolver EP" 12" ships everywhere Tuesday September 17, and beatless version of "La Valle Delle Lacrime," plus a downtempo chugger aptly named, "Slowmo" are set to release digitally later this fall.

Does the world need more acid? Yes it does! the R-A-G trio aka Dutch producers Ma Spaventi, G-String & Aroy Dee deliver three raw acid-jams with Aroy on the couch working the mic. The lyrics of Dreadfully Nervous are based on a Edgar Allan Poe story. 'Dreadfully Nervous (Aryd's Acid Mix)' is a gurgling brew of squelchy acid with dark vocals and pinging cowbells pulling you in all directions. Coarse claps and ever more wild synths encourage you to cut loose and make for another timeless cut. 'Dreadfully Stoned' is more stripped back, with a rubbery arpeggiated synth the main hook over subtle, supple drums. Those dark spoken word vocals are back again and the whole thing is freaky and unsettling as a result. Last of all is the bright and glistening 'No Soul' with metal hits and claps and prickly acid all bursting out of dusty Chicago drums. It's raw and sure to fire the synapses just like R-A-G productions always do. More

Having already released on MOS Recordings’ sub label MOS Deep before now, Stephen Lopkin is now back with a second four track effort, due for release in April. The Scottish artist has been making prickly house and techno for almost a decade now, and on the four cuts here he once again showcases a serene and slick style.
Opener 'Och Aye' is Detroit styled cut with rich synths dancing about above rubber drums. It makes for a shiny, electrified atmosphere that is clean and sleek and emotive. 'Weegie in Wigan' is a much more peak time cut of cackling percussion, sombre chords dampening down raw drums and a wild FM baseline that adds an old school feel. On the flip, 'Ball & Chain' is another busy house effort that has hi hats spinning like plates, thudding kicks and whole eco systems of synths darting about while 'Meall' ends the EP on a masterfully melodic and heavenly groove that journeys through the starry night sky, wired up with electronics and stuffed with machine made soul. Hot on the heels of introducing a new Chilean talent to the MOS ranks with its last release, the Dutch label starts another international affair for its MOS Deep offshoot: Romanian Andrew Red Hand. Andrew, who has been called ‘the Romanian Underground Resistance’, has a long history of DJing and making Detroit inspired techno and electro and across four tracks here, his analogue house with crisp drums and searing acid all burst out of the speakers and into your affections. ‘My Guarding Angel’ is manic and frantic at the same time as been emotionally sensitive thanks to the way cowbells and coarse claps are off set with rich, heart warming chords and teary eyed strings. ‘Never Be The Same’ is then a busy cut stuffed with arpeggiated bass, bright melodies, glassy chords and plenty of reflective surfaces. It’s a feast for your ears that really shines brightly. ‘Shattered Soul’ is another track awash with trilling glassy sounds, echoing melodies and oodles of atmospheric texture all married to hurried techno drums. Calm and serene yet forceful and energetic, that same duality is apparent in ‘Mourning My Mother’, a sombre cut with classic Chi town percussion and drums all weighted down by long tailed pads and poignant chords. This is music that works on head and heel in equal measure. More

Still no one knows who Gerstaffelen is, but with this release the producer becomes a regular on the MOS Deep label and is now back with four more of the rawest cuts you could imagine. Wasting no time in getting gritty, 'Bombara' is a frazzled and gauzy deep techno cut with muffled voices, beams of melodic light and lots of percussive hustle. 'Invisible Ghosts' is a less urgent but equally monstrous track with dark groaning bass, prickly hi hat patterns and frenzied synth lines. 'Night Flowing North' actually offers a slightly lighter sound, with celestial and heartfelt melodies darting about between ping ponging drums and percussive hits before 'Night Flowing South' comes over like a classic jack track from Chicago, with a quick baseline riding up and down the scale and propping the whole track up. This is attention grabbing, dancefloor slaying stuff as ever from MOS and the magically mysterious Gerstaffelen. More
