The Drifter, or Mark Flynn as he is known to his parents, is an up and coming Irish producer and singer living in Berlin. He grew up listening to all kinds of music, and after an adolescence of band projects, choirs and music groups, he got involved in the Dublin club scene, which spurred his love for electronic music and DJing. A move to Berlin inspired him to change his focus to production and suddenly his entire background started to piece itself together - the singing and songwriting of his early years and the musical influences from his DJing and constant digging for electronic music gems.
On top of lending his kaleidoscopic voice to productions of friends such as Erdbeerschnitzel, Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt, Worst Friends and Jacob Korn, Mark runs the clubnight “Passion Beat” at Loftus Hall together with Mano Le Tough, an old buddy from his home town of Greystones. He has traced a solid musical path that has turned him into one of the big references of European House and has made him also a highly in demand Remixer (for the likes of The XX, Francesco Tristano’s “Aufgang” project, Shit Robot on DFA, Thaiti 80, Joakim or Teengirl Fantasy to name just a few ).
A progression that now crystallizes in “ƒin”, his first full-length album for Permanent Vacation. A record, in which the Barcelona mastermind sets aside the danceable immediacy to expand his stylistic palette more than ever. For that purpose, Talabot melts all the elements that have constructed his distinctive sound until now and makes them emerge from a new perspective, in which the construction of complex song structures, intricate rhythms and superpositions of ever-evolving melodies and atmospheres pick up the baton of the “a kick-drum and a sampler” philosophy of his initial productions. Three years after their last EP—and nearly a decade into their production existence—the duo have finally given us a full-length manifesto. Sure, there have been a smattering of remixes and EPs over the years on labels like Futureboogie, International Feel and Live At Robert Johnson. But on their new LP “No No No,” the Spumas at last get to stretch out and give us their full-meal-deal.
The pair birthed the tracks at Lauer’s famed Pyramide III studio, with 10 tunes finalised and selected remotely, thanks to the wonders of high-speed Internet. While the Spumas are well-known (both together and as solo acts) for their melodic, 80s-tinged club workouts, the album format has allowed the guys to push their sound into parts unknown. The album drops at the end of May on Permanent Vacation, and it distils all the things we love about the duo: The melody, the playfulness and the musicianship of two veterans in full command of their powers.
Take the tune “Obereggen,” which expands a punchy, staccato bassline into that sweet spot where trance and italo can play next to each other. Or the cut “Fracture,” which is built on a Detroit-like chassis but makes room for gorgeous pads, subby bass and a nimble breakbeat.
For the established fans, there’ll be plenty to latch onto, including the title cut (and first single), which sounds like something Robocop may have produced if he’d taught a violence diversion program.
Meanwhile, cuts like “Dillingen” remind us of one of those lost Eurythmics B-sides that show up in the dark corners of MixesDB. The album was mixed and mastered by Lopazz, and boasts a colourful cover from Berlin-based artist Ilja Karilampi.
So, 17 years after initially meeting, we finally have a full album from these Spuma Men. And in the end, it was worth the wait.

Massimiliano Pagliara returns to Permanent Vacation with his fourth studio album "See You In Paradise". After the highly acclaimed "Nothing Stays In One Place For Long" EP from 2020, this is the first full-length from the Italian-raised and Berlin-based producer for the label. Massimiliano Pagliara returns to Permanent Vacation with his fourth studio album "See You In Paradise". After the highly acclaimed "Nothing Stays In One Place For Long" EP from 2020, this is the first full-length from the Italian-raised and Berlin-based producer for the label. Albums in the dance music genre can often be a challenge in terms of finding the right balance between the dancefloor and listening at home. Massimiliano, however, mastered this craftmanship perfectly while reviving the art of the album format.
Mostly written and produced in the lockdown period of spring 2020 these 10 tracks offer the whole sonic spectrum from the "Massi universe". The hardware enthusiast blends analogue-heavy and bright synthesizer melodies, pop hooks, Chicago house groove with more technoid tracks and atmospheric soundscapes. Taking you on a journey through his mind, body and soul: From his underground disco passion and pulsating dancefloor moments to ethereal and meditative ambience.
Inspired, both musically and aesthetically - one of his favourite carnal catchphrases titles the album - by Disco hero Patrick Cowley, Massimiliano channelled past, present and future in searching for new adventures within his music. For the first time working with live musicians (saxophone and piano) to bring a new facet on the table, that flows with the production seamlessly.

depths of lockdown 2020. His nods to synth pop and italo fun, inspired by bands of the new wave era, are

the ear, particularly stand out ‘On Your Mind’, the product of relentless pursuit. For Theo, the collaboration with
Permanent Vacation was long awaited and is a memorable mark within his thriving career.
Theo Kottis said: “Thrilled to finally share these tracks, I worked on them 2 years ago and was fortunate enough
to find them a home at Permanent Vacation, which has long been one of the labels I've admired most. As these
tracks were a solo lockdown project, I've loved collaborating with PV on the release - particularly the creation of

The Covid Pandemic hit Germany in March 2020 and by the 15th of March all of the public life was shut down. It
was the same day where my son Rio was born.
For me, this early stage of the pandemic had something very intimate and private, since I was forced to stay at
home with my young family for weeks. In Mai 2020 I started to leave the house, for other occasions then just
going to the shop or taking a walk and that was the time I started working on “Hotel Solaris”. It was an intense
creative rush: in 8 weeks the album was written, performed and produced in one flow. I had two days every week,
where I could go to the studio for 4 hours and that time the album was done. It had a corpus in a sense that I
knew I wanted a faster or a slower track at points, but the whole hotel idea came when I saw photos of the old
Hotel Arkada on the Croatian island Hvar, that my extremely talented friend Marcella Zanki shot on her holidays.
They show a well preserved socialist-brutalist hotel architecture in the middle of the beautiful Adriatic and for me it
was like looking at pictures from a timeless place, without knowing where and when it exactly was, totally surreal.
I liked that idea of a hote that stands as an escape symbol from the real world, which was something everyone
needed when the pandemic was building stronger and stronger. I decided to call it Hotel Solaris, inspired by the
novel from Stanislav Lem, where Solaris is a planet covered by an ocean which triggers our subconscious mind to
become reality. It all fit at the end and “Hotel Solaris” was done.

Equal parts producer extraordinaire, DJ, gentleman, and comedian, Butch has everything deserving of a star in todays dance music arena. In twenty three tracks spanning an hour and twenty minutes, Butch guides you through a lucid dream in a technicolor world where time ceases to exist. Reminiscent of a turn of the century Danny Tenaglia, Butch displays his prowess as not only a tastemaker, but an artist encompassing a boundless spectrum of intention and interpretation. The journey begins with the washed out ambience of Jonas Kopp's '55 Dias' as the groove of Octex's 'Liagon' slowly surfaces establishing the foundation for which the mix will follow suit. Slowly but precisely, Butch moves into a lush landscape of utopian sounds with tracks like Redshape's 'Goom' and Minilogue's 'When Sadness Releases Joy Arises' before taking a turn to the heavier side of dance floor pandemonium. Almost obliviously, you find yourself locked in a hypnotic state as the sound of Truncate's remix of WestBoy's 'Green Illusion' and Polar Inertia's 'The Last Vehicle' lash out in proper "four to the floor" techno. The mix would be incomplete without two cuts from Butch himself, and this is where the mix dives into the psychedelic side of club music. Both tracks 'Spirit', exclusive to the mix, and 'Thai Cubensis' with his partner in crime Hohberg are psilocybin laced expeditions into the outer reaches of deep space. Biesmans will mix the next volume of Watergate’s prestigious mix series, following in the
footsteps of Ellen Allien, Solomun, Jimi Jules and WhoMadeWho. Going above and beyond
the standard mix compilation brief, the Belgian artist has produced a work consisting
entirely of his own original productions. The project also features collaborations with a
diverse range of artists including Dusky, Mathew Jonson, Adana Twins and Kasper Bjørke,
alongside rising talent such as Shubostar and Mala Ika.
We got our most significant taste of what a special and unique artist Biesmans is last year, with
the release of ‘Trains, Planes & Automobiles’, his superb debut LP. This wasn’t any ordinary album
project, however. Rather, he set himself the task of completing three tracks per week, pairing theaudio with vintage ‘80s film and video clips, sharing the creations to his Instagram followers as he
went along.
Since this point, he’s gone on to develop a live PA, tour it to places including Exit Festival and
Fusion Festival and become a pivotal artist on the W-Agency roster, after already being a solid
member of the club’s crew having worked there as a technician for around 8 years.
His next impressive career stride is ‘Watergate 28’, a joyful neon dancefloor trip that takes in
synthwave, indie dance, nu disco and all manner of celestial tracks in the house spectrum. It’s
also the first Watergate compilation since dOP’s in 2012 to take on the mammoth challenge of
producing all original and exclusive material for the project. An unofficial album per se, with the
thrilling arc of soundtracking a hiplashing on Watergate’s iconic Main Floor.
The scene was set in Mexico in February 2022. The call came through from Watergate HQ and the
deadline was tight: deliver a volume of the club’s esteemed mix series within a three-month
window, the brief stipulating that the mix should have four originals and two collaborations.
Biesmans went sober for a three-month period so he could give everything he had to the project,
swapping the lunchtime beers for sport sessions. When he arrived back in Berlin in mid-February
ready to begin studio time, he was in the zone and immediately begun work completing a sketch
on ‘Smooth Monday’, the track that would go onto to be his luminescent collaboration with the
Permanent Vacation-backed Zombies In Miami. Two weeks into his studio time, it was clear there
was more than enough quality material to not only fulfill, but smash Watergate’s original brief.
What followed was no less than 17 original tracks and 13 collaborations – arguably the most
ambitious in Watergate’s compilation history.
Already in touch after releasing on their imprint 17 Steps in 2019, he sent three sketches to Dusky
and the nostalgia-soaked ‘Back in the Daze’ was the shimmering result. The vibes flowed like a
dream when he linked with Kid Simius for the funky nu disco gem ‘Me Gusta Acid’, even
recording Kid’s vocals in one-take. A visit to his hero Mathew Jonson’s studio for the day saw the
birth of the pumping piano-laden houser ‘Quantum Computing’, a project highlight. After bonding
over their shared love of cosmic synths in Tulum this year, Biesmans invited South Korean artist
Shubostar into his studio to create the wavy ‘80s inspired creation ‘Across the Universe’.
Biesmans likewise mined inspiration wherever he went, his track ‘March for Peace’ was created
off the back of attending a rally to support Ukraine.
Biesmans pieced together each track like a jigsaw puzzle, building up sonic moods throughout.
“Sometimes I would do three tracks in one day, or set specific moods. For example, if someone
sent me some powerful chords, then I decided to do an intro track with that. Then I started to put
some artists together like a puzzle, connecting the artist with the position in the mix.”
The resulting mix is an exhilarating technicolour journey. From the immense opener ‘Away’ with
one half of dOP’s Vandesande, to the woozy arpeggiated bliss of ‘Holiday’ with Kasper Bjørke and
the synth-drenched breakbeat euphoria of the Biesmans solo cut ‘All Day Every Day’, it’s a
highlight-heavy 78-minute ride.
“Even though this is (sort of) another album, the concept is definitely different. I've approached
this project as a DJ mix. When I record a podcast or mixtape, I like to take the listener on a
journey. Starting of beatless and moving slowly into the party/dancing mood. I also felt that I had
to step away from the album sound of last year. I don't want to keep on repeating myself, but I still
have a love for synth sounds so it was important to explore new territory with these elements. The
collaboration part made it also a super interesting project in which you already get inspired by
whoever you work with. I also think that speed played a big role in this project, the whole thing
was done in less than 3 months.” - Biesmans

With 15 tracks, including 6 exclusive ones, the Swedish producer and DJ gives proof of her skills on 78 minutes playtime. Her musical spectrum extends from old house-classics to contemporary techno-pearls - mixed with love and intuitive feeling. The compilation starts with dreamy vinyl-crackles and an exclusively deep production of Matthias Meyer: "Miss Apre Gate (Beatless Version)" is a perfect, moody opener and sets a high standard from the beginning. The Watergate Mix series goes into the next round. Konrad Black is a founding member of the Wagon Repair Label and part of the Richie Hawtins M_nus family. For Watergate he delivers a mix containing inuential classic material as well as new unreleased productions by himself with collaborators such as Martin Buttrich. His signature sound, a dark vision of techno shines throughout the entire project and resects his self-perception as a DJ. Irish producer and DJ Mano Le Tough announces his new record, At The Moment, out August 20th on DJ Koze’s Pampa Records, and presents the first single, “No Road Without A Turn.” After more than a decade of releases and touring, Mano has spent the past year at home in Zurich, rearing his young family and focusing on the positives of 14 months without performing, amid the uncertainty of the pandemic. In the face of horror, Mano channelled inspiration. With At The Moment, the follow-up to 2015’s Trails, those struggles have produced a record which balances the ambivalence of the current moment, with wistful streaks of unguarded optimism.
At The Moment shows Mano’s modes of expression evolving too. The synths and rhythms common to earlier works are now complemented with less familiar sounds and influences. Jangling guitars and sun-bleached chords envelop his own tender, plaintive vocals in a dappled wash of summery pop. Another track grounds overlapping melodies and sci-fi soundtrack pads with hip hop beats, creating a hypnotic slice of slinky retro-futurism. Where there is reflection, there is also a sense of being unafraid.
“I’ve always liked that Mallarmé quote, ‘poetry is the language of crisis,’” says Mano. “It’s hard to make good music about everything being amazing. DJ Koze might be one of the world's best producers, but above all he's a DJ, and it's his DJ ear that governs. Just as in a great set, so with his releases: "Seeing Aliens" came out of nowhere, a big buzzing beast of a track, to announce that Koze was back on the scene and prime everyone for the coming album, knock knock. But now that Koze has your attention, it's time to remind everyone what's most important about club music, pull things back, take a turn to the left, and get deep into the groove.
Thus "Pick Up": the second single from knock knock is 100% pure groove, doubly so in the extended 12" version. In a sense it's incredibly familiar - it is essentially a filter disco record, very close to something you could imagine coming out of Paris around the turn of the millennium. But of course, this is Koze. Nothing is normal or familiar in his world, and he's taken this most foundational of clubland staples into new territory. Flipping samples of Gladys Knight & the Pips "Neither One Of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" and Melba Moore's "Pick Me Up, I'll Dance", it creates something completely airborne, shot through with emotions such as gods must feel: not quite explicable to the human mind but strong enough to knock you off your feet. In its way it's absolutely as powerful as "Seeing Aliens", but it comes in like the proverbial iron fist in a glove of velvet.
The flip, a ten-minute new track, "The Love Truck" is a big contrast again. If "Pick Up" is giddy flight, "The Love Truck" is woozy floating. Its sharp, clicking percussion recalls 2000s minimal techno, but this time absolutely nothing is generic. The long, intense, on-and-off bass tones, the flickers of birdsong, the pure voices slipping in backwards as if from the future... it's all like the most blissful dream, and culminates in a coda so subtle yet so beautiful it's like ever time you've ever seen the sun rise and thought "I never want this to end", all the while understanding deep down that the fleeting nature of the pleasure is also what give it its power. But of course, being created with that consummate DJ's ear, it's also full of the thrill of wondering what Koze has in store next.

Just as in a great set, so with his releases: "Seeing Aliens" came out of nowhere, a big buzzing beast of a track, to announce that Koze was back on the scene and prime everyone for the coming album, knock knock. But now that Koze has your attention, it's time to remind everyone what's most important about club music, pull things back, take a turn to the left, and get deep into the groove.
Thus "Pick Up": the second single from knock knock is 100% pure groove, doubly so in the extended 12" version. In a sense it's incredibly familiar - it is essentially a filter disco record, very close to something you could imagine coming out of Paris around the turn of the millennium. But of course, this is Koze. Nothing is normal or familiar in his world, and he's taken this most foundational of clubland staples into new territory. Flipping samples of Gladys Knight & the Pips "Neither One Of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" and Melba Moore's "Pick Me Up, I'll Dance", it creates something completely airborne, shot through with emotions such as gods must feel: not quite explicable to the human mind but strong enough to knock you off your feet. In its way it's absolutely as powerful as "Seeing Aliens", but it comes in like the proverbial iron fist in a glove of velvet.
The flip, a ten-minute new track, "The Love Truck" is a big contrast again. If "Pick Up" is giddy flight, "The Love Truck" is woozy floating. Its sharp, clicking percussion recalls 2000s minimal techno, but this time absolutely nothing is generic. The long, intense, on-and-off bass tones, the flickers of birdsong, the pure voices slipping in backwards as if from the future... it's all like the most blissful dream, and culminates in a coda so subtle yet so beautiful it's like ever time you've ever seen the sun rise and thought "I never want this to end", all the while understanding deep down that the fleeting nature of the pleasure is also what give it its power. But of course, being created with that consummate DJ's ear, it's also full of the thrill of wondering what Koze has in store next.

Only 9 years after its official opening, Watergate has become one of the world's most prominent underground electronic music institutions. In no small part due to its picturesque location running directly alongside the river Spree, its wall to wall LED dance floor installation and most of all, its consistent flow of first-rate international talent performing every week.
Watergate's presence and influence has spawned many side projects including a boutique-style Mix CD series now in its 8th volume. A who's who of the club's regular talent and resident artists such as Sascha Funke, Sebo K, dOP, Ellen Allien and others have all contributed to the aesthetically pleasing series, now regarded as collector's items.
For the eight installment in our mix series, we bridge the gap between two global capitals of techno: Berlin, and Detroit, home of Lee Curtiss who delivers a forward-thinking mix, inspired by time spent living in both cities. Lee is one of a new generation of techno visionaries from the Motor City, that includes his Visionquest collaborators Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Seth Troxler, who are putting their own unique spin on their city's most famous underground musical export. Based between Detroit and Berlin for the last four years, Lee has a fundamental grasp of what makes both dancefloors at Watergate tick, and this enduring love and understanding of the space clearly shines through in his mix. Building on the raw soul and funk of those who have blazed a trail before him, on both sides of the Atlantic, Lee brings his own subtle melodies and keen sense of dramatic tension to the fore in a mix that encompasses all that is vibrant and exciting about underground techno in 2011
