'Nature' has more widescreen atmosphere with smeared chords swirling round the cuddly kicks and 'Reach 4 My Luv' then offering an excuse to daydream and get lost in empty mindfulness. 'Track 190' brings your focus back with some cosmic jazz melodies and a more propulsive groove.

House with an extra dose of crispy high-end from DJ Aakmael, who has haunted the saucier ends of the Chicago house scene since the mid 1990s. Aakmael is a mysterious entity, and can be ghost-spotted behind any solid pair of decks on a rainy night. 'Deep Cookie' harkens after a forgotten platonic form of house, in which East Asian synths and 808 claps collide compellingly. Meanwhile, '4ever' rounds off the B-side; it's a diggers' delight with a near-UK feel and mystical vocals and sax, recalling recent tunes this side of the pond by Ben Hauke.

SlothBoogie Records welcomes Deep House maestro DJ Aakmael onto its roster this March with ‘The Hardbody Project’ EP, comprised of four original compositions from the Richmond, US-based artist.

Across the past decade and a half DJ Aakmael has unveiled an impressive back catalogue of soul-drenched, dynamic deep house via revered imprints such as Uzuri, Church, Scissor & Thread, Freerange and Second Hand Records amongst many more. Here we see his latest material perfectly interlace with SlothBoogie Records own impressive back catalogue of bumping house and raw deep cuts.

Leading the release is ‘Hardbody’, laid out across seven minutes with chopped brass samples, bright key sequences, modulating Moogesque resonant leads and shuffled drums before ‘Track 166’ shifts focus over to a deeper aesthetic via dubbed out chord swells, organic percussion and twinkling piano melodies.

The aptly named ‘Deepshyt’ opens the flip side, as the name would suggest employing an amalgamation of deep and entrancing synth work, crisp drums and spoken word vocal chants. ‘Strobe’ then rounds out the release with a more disco-tinged House feel, fusing together funk guitar licks, cinematic strings and a snaking bass groove atop Aakmael’s signature swinging rhythmic feel.

DJ Aakmael is a producer we’ve been loving for many years and we’re proud to be presenting you with his Freerange debut. The US artist has had consistent releases dating back to 2004 and has graced the discographies of many a fine label including Uzuri, Earthrumental, Kolour Ltd, his own UnXpozd Entertainment and most recently the hotly tipped UK label Church. Here on his Daydreeming EP we’re treated to four original tracks of real house music produced by a true original of the underground. Kicking off we have Daydreeming with muscular beats laying the foundation for some widescreen orchestral strings and off-kilter and subtly deranged torchsong vocals. Rimbaudian steps up for the remix following what for us, is one of the tracks of 2016; Werka 8 from his Meda Fury release. The Swedish producer brings a very fresh approach with a loopy and hypnotic techno edge which draws you in with it’s repeating vocal and trippy sinewave melodies. Flipping over we have Basement 2 which drops the tempo slightly for a more heads down Detroit-inspired jam. A simple three note synth repeats throughout while moody pads bring the deep heat resulting in a track that you could get lost in for days. Beacot Road closes the EP in fine style with introspective filtered piano chords providing the magic on this simple, stripped back track, the whole thing sounding somehow blunted like it’s being beamed through a thick haze of ganja smoke. Up first is “Dearest One” featuring the vocals of JMellodees, putting you in a setting of an old smoky jazz club (ala Billie Holiday’s time). The buzz on this track is already heating up, and will be sure to bang at a party in a large club environment or small and intimate setting! “Untitled 94” is Aakmael taking you back to the original deep house sound of the early 90’s, with a phat bass, mello keys and tricked out solo that is simply irresistible! Unxpozd presents “Deepermoments”, the first release from the vinyl catalog. The project is produced entirely by Dj Aakmael, featuring 4 raw and basic House bangers! The opening track “Deeprespectrak” is a head-knod track with a serious groove, shouting out and giving respect to many of the Deep House legends. For the second track “Chord Damage” the gritty, dirty chopped-up chords riding the heavy beat satisfies the appetite for dopeness! Third track on the flip side is “That Sound”, shows Aakmael’s love for that classic sound, featuring deep and warm organ chords topped off with lovely voices.
