House with an extra dose of crispy high-end from DJ Aakmael, who has haunted the saucier ends of the Chicago house scene since the mid 1990s. Aakmael is a mysterious entity, and can be ghost-spotted behind any solid pair of decks on a rainy night. 'Deep Cookie' harkens after a forgotten platonic form of house, in which East Asian synths and 808 claps collide compellingly. Meanwhile, '4ever' rounds off the B-side; it's a diggers' delight with a near-UK feel and mystical vocals and sax, recalling recent tunes this side of the pond by Ben Hauke.

SlothBoogie Records welcomes Deep House maestro DJ Aakmael onto its roster this March with ‘The Hardbody Project’ EP, comprised of four original compositions from the Richmond, US-based artist.
Across the past decade and a half DJ Aakmael has unveiled an impressive back catalogue of soul-drenched, dynamic deep house via revered imprints such as Uzuri, Church, Scissor & Thread, Freerange and Second Hand Records amongst many more. Here we see his latest material perfectly interlace with SlothBoogie Records own impressive back catalogue of bumping house and raw deep cuts.
Leading the release is ‘Hardbody’, laid out across seven minutes with chopped brass samples, bright key sequences, modulating Moogesque resonant leads and shuffled drums before ‘Track 166’ shifts focus over to a deeper aesthetic via dubbed out chord swells, organic percussion and twinkling piano melodies.
The aptly named ‘Deepshyt’ opens the flip side, as the name would suggest employing an amalgamation of deep and entrancing synth work, crisp drums and spoken word vocal chants. ‘Strobe’ then rounds out the release with a more disco-tinged House feel, fusing together funk guitar licks, cinematic strings and a snaking bass groove atop Aakmael’s signature swinging rhythmic feel. A1. Take It Back
A2. What Iz Deep House
B1. Sand
B2. Sand (Frank & Tony's Breakaway Dub)
Info:
Scissor & Thread ramp up the heat with the debut release by Virginia's deep house don,
DJ Aakmael. Known for his infectious grooves and deep and intricate instrumentation for more than two decades, this four track EP is in no short supply of teased out, peak time, classic deep house.
The titular track wastes no time on the A-side with its hard hitting kick and springy bass
holding court, while a hypnotic serpentine synth snakes along. The A2, What Iz Deep House, is a lesson for those who don't know what true deep house is. Woozy, edgy chords take the spotlight as a dissociated voice slurs, "what is deep house?" A relentlessly thick kick, along with sharp as razors hi-hats and snaps, throttle the track into peak time territory.
On the flip, Sands is an aquatic affair, with its reverb laden pads and piano chord stabs submerging the floor in pelagic atmosphere. The persistent, euphoric bassline bump effortlessly slides its hooks into the listeners ears before a celestial piano melody pierces through the depths.
Frank & Tony take things even deeper with their late night Breakaway Dub, applying their signature bass line touch and hi-hat shuffle in what may be their best remix to date.

DJ Aakmael is a producer we’ve been loving for many years and we’re proud to be presenting you with his Freerange debut. The US artist has had consistent releases dating back to 2004 and has graced the discographies of many a fine label including Uzuri, Earthrumental, Kolour Ltd, his own UnXpozd Entertainment and most recently the hotly tipped UK label Church. Here on his Daydreeming EP we’re treated to four original tracks of real house music produced by a true original of the underground. Kicking off we have Daydreeming with muscular beats laying the foundation for some widescreen orchestral strings and off-kilter and subtly deranged torchsong vocals. Rimbaudian steps up for the remix following what for us, is one of the tracks of 2016; Werka 8 from his Meda Fury release. The Swedish producer brings a very fresh approach with a loopy and hypnotic techno edge which draws you in with it’s repeating vocal and trippy sinewave melodies. Flipping over we have Basement 2 which drops the tempo slightly for a more heads down Detroit-inspired jam. A simple three note synth repeats throughout while moody pads bring the deep heat resulting in a track that you could get lost in for days. Beacot Road closes the EP in fine style with introspective filtered piano chords providing the magic on this simple, stripped back track, the whole thing sounding somehow blunted like it’s being beamed through a thick haze of ganja smoke. Enjoy, and please show your support for DJ Aakmael!

Unxpozd presents the 7th project from Dj Aakmael, “The Rise EP”. The lead tune “Rise” is a blissful, relaxed string based track with playful keys that’s perfect for any chill lounge or dance floor. “Jazz Piece” is a sampled piece of art, where Aak cuts and chops a vintage groove for the 2014 crowd. Many have already hailed it as something that has that old NJ deep house feel! On the flip side, Aak gives two more untitled gems. “Untitled 105” is a dope club thumper that takes you back to that headknod feeling, perfect for any dance floor who liked to groove! Last is “Untitled 101”, thumping beat with dramatic horns and strings to conclude a well-packaged project!

BB Moody Waters Feat. Carolina Damas - Acid Lovin’Press Release
London’s Release/Sustain imprint returns this April with a four-track package featuring material from Eduardo De La Calle, XDB, Joey Anderson Moody Waters feat. Carolina Damas.
The Release/Sustain imprint has gone from strength to strength over the years, welcoming the likes of Alton Miller, DJ Aakmael, Benjamin Brunn, Losoul, Norm Talley and many more respected names in underground house and techno over its past twenty nine releases.
Here we see this continue with some more welcome additions, first up is Eduardo De La Calle with ‘The Protosoul’ and as always the Spanish artist offers up a perfectly crafter slice of hazy, groove-driven Techno, led by bleepy arps, winding stabs and robust analogue rhythms. XDB then offers up heady, subtly blooming leads, pulsing subs and shuffled drums with ‘Another Night’ next.
Opening the flip is New York’s Joey Anderson with ‘Drum Play’ which as the name suggest sees the percussive aspects dynamically evolve throughout amongst choppy bass hits, stutter arpeggio blips and warm string melodies. Moody Waters then teams up with Carolina Damas, vocalist on anthemic house cut ‘Sueno Latino’ for ‘Acid Lovin’’, edging into deeper territory with ethereal pads, crunchy drums and squelching 303 licks while Damas’ soft, spoken-word Latin vocals wander within.

London/Lisbon label Release/Sustain start the year as they mean to go on. Presenting a 4 track various artists 12’’ titled _Nightfall and Other Stories_. The record is comprised of 4 artists the Label regard as legends of that deeper dance floor sound. Opening proceedings on A1 is *Dekmantel* mainstay *Vakula*. A regular at the Release/Sustain ‘Conclave’ parties and part of the RS family His offering, _809,_ is a percussive drum tool trip of a track, with sporadic raw percussion shooting shining across a positively minimalist backing. For A2, we see Italian stalwart of underground dance music, *L.I.E.S* & *Crème Organization* regular, *Simoncino*. Obscure sample work, and a repeating line ‘i can use a friend’, twist and turn over rugged, thumping, functional drums and bass. Simoncino at his best! Furthering the quality of this standout 12’’ is Chicago house music pioneer, and *Dance Mania* alumini *Vincent Floyd*. Rich in melody and familiar classic house sounds, Reggie’s soft jacking house sound bring a silky smooth, North American touch to a previously rugged, European 12 slab of wax. Rounding things off we have *Clone*, *Prime Numbers* & *Deep Explorer* badman, *Reggie Dokes*. A cut riddled with percussive and quirky undertones Enjoy!

London-based imprint Release Sustain returns with 'Wiring Range' EP by L.A born now Berlin-based Alland Byallo, backed with remixes from Safeword and Brooks Mosher. Release Sustain was launched in 2009 out of East London, and its roster boasts the likes of Brendon Moeller, Himan, Inxec and Gabbi Lopez delivering contemporary electronic music with its focused tipped towards the dark and edgy sounds in house and techno. Here the label welcomes back Alland Byallo, following his 'High Stakes' cut, which featured on the labels 'Deepest London Vol.3' compilation last year. The release opens with original version of title track 'Wiring Range' here, employing raw shuffling drums, eerie atmospherics and a penetrating electronic bass hook as its driving force, the records slowly blooms in such a state before its focal point introduces a dubbed out synth stab and hi-strings further fuelling its energy. Following we have Mobilee and Dessous artists Safeword's remix of 'Wiring Range' remix, stripping things back to a raw, drum-focused gritty vibe, the duo introduce a heady saw wave bass hook that subtly varies throughout the trace, while soft ethereal pads and whispering synth lines flutter in the depths of the background. Entering the B-Side we have 'A Red Dilemma', embracing a similar dark aesthetic, yet infused with a more progressive, rolling feel. The track blooms in true house fashion easing in new elements and subtle additions every thirty-two bars; the centre stages see a dreamy ethereal pad introduced, further fuelling its musicality and tasteful intelligent approach. To close the release Dolly artist Brooks Mosher reworks 'A Red Dilemma' into a synth driven workout, opting for an amalgamation of synth elements to lead the way, alongside weighty, bumping drums. Mosher instills his signature sound on the remix tightly blending sounds to create an ever-evolving dynamic.
