DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie. The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers. Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so! Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords. NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection. As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered! More

The man known as DJ Nature holds a long and illustrious list of releases that spans all the way back to the early 90s, when, as Nature Boy, the Bristol born DJ and producer was carving out sample heavy house music for labels like Ruff Disco Records and the Underworld affiliated Tomato label. His relatively modern re-incarnation, as DJ Nature, has seen singles and two albums come correct on revered labels like Golf Channel Recordings and Jazzy Sport. Following on from Futureboogie’s landmark 50th release, DJ Nature drops a heavyweight four track EP on the Bristol label, each track promising and delivering Summertime vibes in abundance. “Born Lifted”, with its deft guitar licks and soulful vocal chops over lazy, hazy beats, is a great example of the Nature aesthetics that make his tracks so very popular across the house fraternity. “My Life” picks up the pace, deploying granite hard snares and cosmic chords with dusted vocal samples.
On the flip, “What It Isn’t” packs some jazz chops with its sampled pianos and saxophone riffs over a discordant beat that swings with the best of them, whilst EP closer “Loving U More” again serves up some delicious summertime grooves with the perfect marriage of deep, funky bass and seductive samples. Cottam's Ruff Draft label reaches release number 9 with a stunning double drop from Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature. Always one of our favourite artists, we've loved Milo's music for years at Ruff Draft and his tracks on Golf Channel, Sound of Speed and Jazzy Sport never leave the box, so we are blown away to present to you two future classics. 'Alfred' is a masterclass in raw rhythmic production, kicking off with popping old school drums and builds into an uptempo jack track with a melancholy and depth missing from a lot of modern club tracks. 'Blood On Your Hands' is sonic bliss, a stunning polemic using a speech from a 60s episode of The Twilight Zone that still resonates today, about the futile loss of life in wars run by people who don't fight them and monetary interests placed over lives. Brooding sub bass and dub techno sensibilities combine with a lolloping shuffling groove for a darker head nodder with a serious and sadly still pertinent message.

DJ NATURE aka MILO steps uponce again to the indispensable Golf Channel label, with his eagerly awaited debut artist album comprising all original material. A founding member of legendary Bristol sound-system collective The Wild Bunch (which spawned Massive Attack, Tricky and much more), Nature made NYC his home in the early 90's & went on to collaborate with the Major Force crew in Japan, before hooking up with GC boss Phil South, who thankfully persuaded him to don his production cap once again.
There followed a series of acclaimed 12" releases through GC which developed a trademark sound, a sound he's fully realised on 'Return Of The Savage'. Nature's unique take on modern black music is somewhere between the bass heavy sound system cuts on which he cut his teeth and the more nuanced vibe of peers like Theo Parrish

Since their inception in 2013, East London duo Payfone have been breathing warm-blooded soul into their unique machine-fuelled groove.
Drawing the dots between the White Isle and Nu Yorica - by way of London's narcotic nightlife - the pair conjure a rhythmic throb and soulful devotion all of their own. Together, Phil Passera and Chieka Ononye buzz along the fault lines of classic R&B, cosmic disco and acid house, injecting their sound with 21st century syncopation. Adhering to a strict 'no samples' rule, their manifesto demands that everything be 100 percent original.

I was deep in Texas when a call came through..."Hey man it's Cherry ! ...We got some sick new shit for you, gonna blow your mind" I waited nervously for the package. it arrived two weeks later. I slipped the hot black acetate from its wrapper and placed it on the turntable... Wired guitars wail like banshees on heat, primal beats erupt drenched in dark juice from roots of trees slick with crunk. Flutes and bells hang like exotic flowers that reek of jungle sex and all night long the pulse goes on and on and on' As usual Cherry was right...this most surely is one sick motherfucker of a record. Don't get me wrong there's warped beauty here aplenty but you gotta take it easy. Don't ingest it all at once...make sure you're in comfortable surroundings, trust me I know...six months later and I'm still feeling the burn.

On a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind Africaine 808: D Leyers and Nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. In front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. The boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as 'Blind Double D'. They offered to bring him home and record him. He turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good Bourbon. He explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of Bourbon and to be left alone. The boys got him the bottle, and recorded Blind D.D. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. Unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. This added some extra funk to the recording. With Dirk and Nomad's usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do. This record is dedicated to Blind D.D, wherever he is...

Late night dweller Todd Modes can be found deejaying around Detroit playing anything from offbeat ambient grooves to spaced out Disco jams. He released the Todd Modes / Bobby Dolo EP on the cult underground label M1 Sessions, and as Cosmic Handshakes with Dial 81 they put out an EP called 'The Delicate Details'. Now he teams up with Golf Channel's own wild man Mike Severson from the psychedelic Disco rock outfit Heroes of the Galleon Trade. After a session one night, the two step out for a cold one and bump into burly biker bar bandit Randy Winter and the singer song writer sex visionary Emily Infinity. After a few drinks they invited them back to the studio and the vocals were set. Put on your jean jacket slip on your leather boots and ready yourself for a night thrill ride. Golf Channel every time ! More

Taking Chris Munoz's (aka The Sexican's) take on 'Sometimes' from the forthcoming Spike remix LP 'Orange Cloud Version' as its starting point, Golf Channel favourite Justin Van Der Volgen shunts this bad boy that little bit further through the doors of the club, puts something on its tongue and kicks it into the big room. Beefy drums, a stoopid fresh bass line, big vocals and a tough, explosive, rocky guitar riff ensure this one has anthem written all over it. Flip over for 4 more unheard Spike gems, little lost nuggets that didn't find their way on to the much loved LP 'Orange Cloud Nine' but need to be heard: 'You Can Do It' is much in demand already amongst those that know, and the closing cut 'Careful' is a fragile beauty. Finally the dudes behind the fantastic Hell Yeah recordings step out into the limelight on their own with their debut EP of on Golf Channel. And what a debut !
Tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (Adriatic Bolt) to the 1992 style Primal Scream psychedelic chugging banger (Quando) via sunny acid (Quiet Force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (I Don't Care Who You Are). Just as you'd expect from the amazing sounds their label has put out over the years, this ep is uncategoriseable in the best possible way We look forward to hearing more from the aptly titled Balearic Gabba Sound System, this is just an aperitivo, or is it a selection of antipasti...either way, it leaves you ready for the next course. From a basement studio in Hackney, East London comes PAYFONE's 2nd release on GOLF CHANNEL - QUARANTINE b/w PADRE, PRAY FOR US. Following on from 2014's extremely well received PARADISE heater, PAYFONE continue down a similar path for the A side QUARANTINE. Featuring once again 24 year old vocal powerhouse Louis Howard Jones, QUARANTINE is a semi auto biographical take on the hardships of a an underprivileged youth, set against a tough Phil Passera production that sounds more New York City 1984 than New Port County 2004 (Jones was born and raised in Cardiff). Cruising at 120 BPM, the dark funk guitar intro gives way to some heavy slap bass and deep synth that touches Michael Jackson's THRILLER before the direct and brutal vocals of Jones hit you right between the eyes. PADRE, PRAY FOR US is a bizarre Afro-Cuban inspired homage to Passera's Italian father Sergio ( who's telephone call can be heard on the songs intro). Featuring the lethal trumpet of former Cuban military private Eikel Venegas Hernandez, this instrumental takes you to the Pinata Party via downtown Lagos. Golf Channel every time !
