DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie. The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers. Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so! Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords. NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection. As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered! More

The man known as DJ Nature holds a long and illustrious list of releases that spans all the way back to the early 90s, when, as Nature Boy, the Bristol born DJ and producer was carving out sample heavy house music for labels like Ruff Disco Records and the Underworld affiliated Tomato label. His relatively modern re-incarnation, as DJ Nature, has seen singles and two albums come correct on revered labels like Golf Channel Recordings and Jazzy Sport. Following on from Futureboogie’s landmark 50th release, DJ Nature drops a heavyweight four track EP on the Bristol label, each track promising and delivering Summertime vibes in abundance. “Born Lifted”, with its deft guitar licks and soulful vocal chops over lazy, hazy beats, is a great example of the Nature aesthetics that make his tracks so very popular across the house fraternity. “My Life” picks up the pace, deploying granite hard snares and cosmic chords with dusted vocal samples.
On the flip, “What It Isn’t” packs some jazz chops with its sampled pianos and saxophone riffs over a discordant beat that swings with the best of them, whilst EP closer “Loving U More” again serves up some delicious summertime grooves with the perfect marriage of deep, funky bass and seductive samples. DJ NATURE aka MILO steps uponce again to the indispensable Golf Channel label, with his eagerly awaited debut artist album comprising all original material. A founding member of legendary Bristol sound-system collective The Wild Bunch (which spawned Massive Attack, Tricky and much more), Nature made NYC his home in the early 90's & went on to collaborate with the Major Force crew in Japan, before hooking up with GC boss Phil South, who thankfully persuaded him to don his production cap once again.
There followed a series of acclaimed 12" releases through GC which developed a trademark sound, a sound he's fully realised on 'Return Of The Savage'. Nature's unique take on modern black music is somewhere between the bass heavy sound system cuts on which he cut his teeth and the more nuanced vibe of peers like Theo Parrish

Ruff Daft returns, and after a various artist EP for number 7, number 8 on the label goes back to the founder, with three new tracks from Cottam 'Washed Out' kicks things off, at the cross roads between Mood Hut & Basic Channel where dub techno sensibilities meet dreamy chords for a delectable deep house track. 'Horns' harks back to Cottam's earliest releases, with an afro-ish horn loop teased out over four minutes until the full loop and bass kick in to devastating effect. 'A Ruff Draft' sees Cottam look back towards his techno roots, with a killer kick drum and raw acid lending an abrasive edge to a well rounded EP of varied styles.

Romansoff is the man behind Raw Tools, a guy who loves to DJ and arrange parties in and around Bucharest, he is starting to stretch his wings further afield... With a release on Machine Records Inc being his first for another label, Romansoff delivered 3 tracks of dancefloor goodness to the Ruff Draft inbox that made me jiggle in my chair. It was when I got up and started to dance like my dad, and my son started to laugh and point, that I knew it was a winner. I contacted Romansoff who suggested we should have a game of stone, paper, scissors to decide the track order.... and thus Ruff Draft 05 came to be........

The man behind the End Of Level Boss label, Cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. Already tried and tested in the clubs by our man Cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. They demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from Nottingham to Leyland and beyond. Label boss Cottam takes over the B side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

Number 3 on Ruff Draft comes from Louis Guilliaume. Having met Louis back in 2009 and followed his music since way before then, it was an exciting day when we received these tracks from him. Known more for his harder edge techno productions on labels such as Soundtravels, Bio Rhythm Holland, Teng, SD Holland and a remix on Skudge, here he edges slightly away from that harder sound. The tracks vary from deep, groovy and meandering house to a beatless soundscape reminiscent of early Larkin and Pullen to a powerful kick drum driven sermon.

Cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, Ruff Draft. Paul Cottam came to wider attention with a series of limited edition blank-label 12s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into deep house burners, but Ruff Draft is all about original tracks, and the first release sees three tracks from the man himself. 'Lost In My Brain Fog' comes in two versions, the super deep original is an ethereal trip of shimmering strings and delayed percussion, but with a kicking distorted thump at the bottom end to still work the floor - a real trip. The Medicated Mix has a mystery vocalist mixing with dub techno chords and jacking percussion for a late night trip to the back room of a dark warehouse. The EP is completed with 'A Variation on a Theme', a gem of a deep house groover with beautiful chords and acid that creeps up and sidles its way behind and around you before pinching your wallet and necking your drink. The first release on Ruff Draft sets a high standard, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and cut loud. Keep a look out for further transmissions in the near future, from Cottam and other artists as they keep it deep and keep it Ruff.
