Los Angeles DJ/Producer Jose Marquez’s sound is a result of being brought up around Afro-Latin, Caribbean and other World Music at a young age. Always intrigued by electronic sounds as well, Jose's mission has been to fuse his love of global rhythms with the dance floor. Ankabé delivers just that! The overall message of the song is about peace, ‘Ankabé’ means Unity in Sidy's native language of Bambara from Mali, West Africa. Sidy says “The song is saying…let’s all work together and bring the best in the world”. Ankabé starts off minimally and slowly builds, creating anticipation as the drums start to get louder whilst Sidy’s deep vocal intensifies to an inevitable climax that is sure to ignite any dance floor.
Jose says “Sidy's vocal and drums are the perfect fit. You don't need to know the Bambara language to understand what the song is saying, you can feel it in the rhythm....let the drums speak to you.” Jose burst onto the scene in 2010 with memorable remixes & edits of artists such as Celia Cruz, Nina Simone, Oumou Sangare and many others. The Patchouli Brothers first began throwing parties in an Albanian dive bar in Toronto's east end, but have gone on to grace the stage at a spectrum of the city's establishments. Basic Fingers is back and welcomes Philou Louzolo to the label, who delivers two blistering edits and one original track for the label's twenty ninth release. First up is 'Lumumba's Revenge', an original cut, produced and arranged by Philou Louzolo himself, creating an intoxicating mood to start off the release. Next up is 'Tartit's Tribe', an edit of an original desert song from the Tombouctou region of Mali. Alma Negra is not only a mountain in the Cordillera de la Ramada range of the Andes Mountains, it's also a collective who are based in Basel, Switzerland. The collective is made up of Miajica, Dario Rohrbach & Dersu Figueria. They are passionate diggers who loves playing music from all over the world & had their debut last year on the infamous Sofrito label with heavy edits from the islands of Cabo Verde.
