Samuel L Session , - Blue Ripple
Sweden's veteran DJ & producer Samuel L Session makes his first appearance on Detelefunk with the "Blue Ripple EP". A gem of a single that keeps things deep, yet for the dancefloor, showing his unique blend of the Techno & House genres.
Starting production back in 1997 with his own Cycle imprint he broke into the music scene with releases such as "In Your Box" & "Check Out This I Bring".
It wasn't long before his production skills were in demand from many other labels, and he released singles on labels such as Kanzleramt, Phont, Hardgroove, and Monoid. As things started to take off he started his 2nd label, SLS, on which he had even more success with tracks like "Merengue".
As his production developed he decided in 2006 start a new label, Klap Klap, to focus more on the direction his music was taking him, a funkier, deeper sound.
This resulted in yet another worldwide hit with "Can You Relate" featuring the Detroit Grand Pubahs own Paris The Black FU, being picked up by DJs such as Steve Rachmad, Joris Voorn, Slam to name a few.
Remix requests soon followed getting attention with his remixes of Funk D' Void's "Diablo" on Soma + Blake Baxter & Trevor Rocklife's "Visions Of You" on Carl Cox's label Intec. Producers such as Kevin Saunderson, Jerome Sydenham, Audio Soul Project, Len Faki and Alexi Delano among others, all had their music tweaked and remade by the man.
Blue Ripple is a groovy tech house extravaganza, teasing throughout with alluring strings. While Staccato & Odyssey pick the pace up more and head for those late night peak time dancefloors with, driving kicks & filtered stabs.
With support for his productions from DJs like Laurent Garnier, Rolando, Francois Kevorkian, Christian Smith and Adam Beyer amoungst many others, Blue Ripple is set to send tiddle waves through the dance scene, not ripple's!

Detroit inspired techno pumper that features a deep bass line with haunting chords. Move on next to the “Concrete Mix” which provides a bit more airy feel. On the B Side the soulful groove B1 “Birth of Blue” featuring Elbee Bad providing whispering melodic vocal sprinkled on top an ever moving progression that even includes some great horn stabs. Rounding out the EP is the B2 “Birth of Blue” featuring Elbee Bad & Andreas Saag, providing a groovy solo-esc piano, riffing throughout this already groovy number.

Only for an artist like Samuel L Session and on labels like Be As One, you could put together a remixes pack with some of the most genre defining producers in the dance music of the recent time and beyond. Such is indeed for SLS album "The Man With The Case" remixes pack. On the A side you have label boss Shlomi Aber, soon to release his 2nd long awaited artist album on Ovum, who has reworked "Big Bad Drum" in a jazzier, dubbier vein. Damage is assured on the dancefloors. Cadenza's main man Reboot takes Samuel's "The Soloist" and turns it into an hipnotic techno journey, something very different from what Frank is known for. Stacey Pullen needs no introduction, being one of the leaders of the Second Wave of Detroit Techno he's a legend in the scene. With him, SLS' "Sections" get reworked to a new high. To close the package, "The Soloist" get remixed by SLS himself, and it's turned into a new dancefloor groover, bearing once again the swedish master imprint.

'The Man With The Case' is a culmination of two decades of experience from Swedish old school techno legend Samuel L. Session. The sound of the past often collides with current movements but never has it sounded so fresh than from Samuel L. Session AKA SLS. His skills and knowledge from the evolving electronic music scene create a stark and original album project to remind us what the real sound of techno is. Sounding as fresh as the early days of the 909, 'The Man With The Case' harks back to the house veins of Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May but in an inspiring new context, digging into the roots of techno while stamping the SLS classic and groovy print into each production. The album opens elegantly with 'Time', drifting into a dreamy and evocative atmosphere glowing with luminosity. Bouncing straight into 'Chimes', the B side for the first EP release earlier this year sinks quickly into rolling grooves and soars with radiant melodies. The tempo is raised with burning dancefloor cuts 'Tronic', 'My People' and Big Bad Drum', the classic bomb released earlier this summer on Be As One, and simmers with the smouldering embers of the warmth of house music in 'Lucious' and 'Past and Present'. Menacing flares and bold snares make 'The Soloist' shake the skull and the closing moments in 'Tight Stack' and 'Pulse' offer a chance for reflection and new insight. Samuel L. Session's career began in the late eighties when mixing hip hop and early forms of techno and house in his home of Sweden. His SLS guise soon became synonymous with groovy techno through a string of high profile releases on labels such Planet E, Soma and Intec and remixes for techno veterans such as Slam and Kevin Saunderson. SLS also founded a string of his own successful imprints, Solid Beat, Cycle and Klap Klap, each making a significant mark on the landscape of techno. Now a main player in the Be As One family, 'The Man With The Case' gives way to a new dawn in electronic music, while still keeping the spirit of it's origins alive.

Another legendary techno producers deliver the goods on Be As One. This time is Sweden's own Samuel L Session with 2 singles straight out of his upcoming first ever artist album, soon to be released on the israeli label. "Big Bad Drum" is exactly what the title says, a drums driven track with a bassline reminiscent of Saunderson's "E-Dancer" techno. Already tested by a few lucky ones, this tune is having a monster impact on the dancefloors with its funky snares and distinctive over voice . "Chimes" still carries an old school vibe, taking a classical and deeper approach. SLS sound at its best, reminds us why the don has been here for the last 15 years. A solid preview of what to expect from Samuel's album, classical groovy techno which reminds us how real techno is suposed to sounds like. Forthcoming on Be As One in October.

Samuel L Session is a Be As One artist in full effect now, as he is now also under the imprint own management and booking agency. Thus this debut EP from him carry an extra special value. The man never fails to impress as he steers away from his acclaimed "fast-loopy-techno-drums-grooves" and explores and deeper techno territories with this "Choose EP". Both sides are two great Samuel's interpretation of dubby atmospheric techno. "Choose One" is a bass-filled dub affair that takes the shape of a gentle dub techno march while on the b side, the atmospheric chord of "Choose Two" cradles the ears into a deeper landscape. Both a remarkable example of Samuel's well known production skills and Be As One taste for quality music.

Those fine purveyors of funk-fuelled electronics, Detroit Grand Pubahs are back with their fourth studio album this September. This time the crazed ringmaster, Paris The Black Fu resides overthe ‘Madd Circus’ with his equally deranged side-kick, Mr.O making sure that the animals are entertained and the kids are kept in check. Or should that be the other way round? Originally founded in Detroit back in 1998, the Pubahs have been on a constant voyage of recovery ever since. Bringing a touch of Funkadelic to what can be a rather stale techno scene, the Pubahs’ unique voice and image injects humour and drama into the one thing they take most seriously above all else, their music. For the Pubahs are no novelty act, there is method to the madness and bass in the badness. It..s all about personality (well split personalities) and a mission to put the fun(k) back into techno.
Whilst the previous two Pubah’s albums ‘Galactic Ass Creatures From Uranus’ and ‘Nuttin Butt Funk’ could be seen as a technorump- obsessed double-bill, ‘Madd Circus’ sees the duo return to the booty, electro-pop and funk of their critically acclaimed debut ‘Funk All Y’all’ and the skizoid electro of Paris’s debut solo release ‘The Mad Circus EP’ back in ‘99 on Detroit indie label Throw. As Paris himself states, “this album is a journey into the booty electro and pop contempo - almost funk but not quite so.” What we have is a left turn for the Pubahs as they prepare to sell tickets and open the doors to the Madd Circus. Did someone say dead elephants, tigers and horses? No they‘re not dead just driven madd by the Ring Master FU and the freak inhabited Mr O. From the opening electro-pop of ‘Autotragik’ and recent single ‘NUmb Deaf and Dumb’ (see video on www.senmusictv.com) the Pubahs are back on top electro form. The electro booty of ‘Zombies Playing Dead’ fits well with the skittish, Drexciyan style funk of the closing ‘Clone Mobile’ whilst tracks such as ‘Mashed Potato’ are pure, unrefined funk. ‘Breakfast In Bed’ sees Barry ‘the love walrus’ White taking over as Paris declares that ‘there’s no reason to get out of bed cause the buffet is right here’, ‘Maybe I Do’ and ‘Madd Circus’ fire a droning rock workout and twisted drum n bass into the crazed big top and
‘Mysterious Sights’ drops a bass heavy dubstep sound into travelling freakshow that can only be the Detroit Grand Pubah’s ‘Madd Circus’. Well produced and still raw at the same time ‘Madd Circus’ is the best Detroit Grand Pubahs so far!

Those fine purveyors of funk-fuelled electronics, Detroit Grand Pubahs are back with a new album for the new decade, and to whet your appetite for this highly anticipated return is their latest single ‘Numb Deaf & Dumb’. The teaming of Mack Goudy Jr. (aka Paris the Black) & The Mysterious Mr O was a natural disaster waiting to happen. Miraculously, the personalities of these two tweaked characters seemed to compliment each other perfectly and they instantly bonded. As Detroit Grand Pubahs, they continue to rise to new heights with past albums like ‘Nuttin’ Butt Funk’ which included the mighty ‘Skydive From Venus’ as well as an ever progressing live show. Their own Detelefunk label (Detroit Electro Funk, to give it its full title) took a brief hiatus for much of 2009 while they moved distributors, but now it’s back with all funk guns blazing. On ‘Numb Deaf & Dumb’ the Pubahs take on a classic break-up song, but add their own electro twists and turns. In typical Pubahs style the deep, sincere toned vocals, but sometimes tongue-in-cheek lyrics from Paris are underpinned by the inspired machine antics of this duo. Long-standing UK tag-team Space DJz (Ben Long / Jamie Bissmire) turn in the first alternative mix; a stripped-down rumbler of dark electro proportions. While the legendary DJ Pierre draws on his pioneering acid skills to distort the vocals and add effective definition, making his ‘Afro Acid Mix’ a major dancefloor contender
this summer. Also check out the video for ‘Numb Deaf & Dumb’ while you wait for the Pubahs next album to be unleashed later in the year.

The latest EP to come from the Detroit Grand Pubahs label Detelefunk is DJ and producer K‘ Alexi Shelby with “I Can Go”. Kaay is one of Chicago‘s true heroes and cited by many as a pioneer of the city‘s sound. At a young age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles befriending
worldwide legends like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy whilst frequenting the famous Warehouse. His upbringing in Chicago in the 70‘s and 80‘s meant he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Curtis Mayfield and David Huff - these same names would prove to be the roots of influence. Kaay recorded for prime Chicago house labels Trax (with „Hot Swing“ and the album Trick Tracks as K. Kool); DJ International (producing one of the rare house albums, “Don‘t Cha Want It ?”), Derrick May‘s seminal techno label Transmat with the classic „All for Lee-Sah”, and later European labels ACV and Djax-Up-Beats. He is responsible for several early acid-house classics. He began DJing in the early ‚80s, and as part of the Risque Rhythm Team (later Risque II and Risque III), Shelby recorded „The Jacking Zone,“ „Essence of a Dream“ and „More than Just a Dance,“ all 1986-87 classics on the emerging house scene. He has a tally of successful hit records remixing and collaborating with other artists being sought by a diverse range of artists like The Pet Shop Boys ,DJ Deep, Derrick May, Paul Johnson, DJ Gregory, Kenny Dope, Mr Lee (who produces for R Kelly), Gene Hunt, Rolando, Maurice Joshua, Marshall Jefferson, Marc Romboy, Mark Grant, Larry Heard, Robert Owens, TjenTjen, Dave Angel, Felix Da Housecat, Will Smith, etc. It’s his unique smooth blend of techno and house, as Kaay calls ‘TecSoul’ (which is also the the name of his own label) that attracted the eye of the Pubahs with a track titled “I Can Go” featuring Kaay’s own vocals, and the heavy female breathing. Kaay states about “I Can Go”: Its just about things we can do all night: DJ-ing, sex, making music, playing, etc. I was really talking about DJing then started thinking about the other things I like to do all night”. Kaay delivered 2 versions of “I Can Go” showing his different sides of music that the Windy City is so well known for. The ‘Chicago House Mx1’ is deeper more
House orientated, while the ‘TecSoul’ version leans towards the jackin’ techno side. Both mixes keep things funky. On the remix is Raudive who uses his ChiTown musical influences: „it has been great to remix K Alexi material, he has been responsible for some absolute classic
music, a lot of the Chicago stuff has had a big influence on my Raudive productions, his stuff has the stripped down sparse funk and the warehouse jacking that I love..“ says Raudive aka Oliver Ho. Finally to complete this 4 tracks EP is “Man 2 Man’, offering a darker warehouse atmosphere, solid kicks followed by heavy breathing, and metallic sounding rhythms that build the track to a carnival fever. It‘s getting hammered by Robert Hood in almost all his DJ sets now, always sending the crowd into a frenzy and DJs rushing to the turntables to find out what it is. A jam packed release not to be missed for anyone into techno or house.

After almost a year hiatus the Detroit Grand Pubahs are back with their Detelefunk label. Detelefunk being an abbreviation for Detroit (Det) Electronic (ele) funk, they reluanch their imprint with a remixes series of some of their favourite producers remixing tracks from their last 3 albums. Hence the title of the series being made up of words from all these album giving us the funtastic “BUttFUnkula and The Remixes From Earth”.This is the fi rst of 2 volumes / EP’s that will offer new remixes, leading into a remix compilation featuring the fi nest remixes of the Pubahs music from over the years. Vol 1 sees the ‘minimal’ originator himself, Robert Hood, take the reigns and remix the title track from “the Pubahs debut album “Funk All Y’all”, while Detroit’s Underground Resistance / Interstellar Fugitives DJ 3000 takes one of Paris the Black FU’s fi rst tracks ‘Stalking You’ (previously released on Throw) and adds his Albanian rhythms. Finally, last but by no means least Sweden’s Samuel L Session takes time out from producing for his own Klap Klap label to deliver this peak time dancefl oor remix of the infamous “Dr Bootygrabber”. Promising to take Robert Hood, DJ 3000 and Samuel L Sessions on a galactic ass trip in their star ship was Paris the Black FU & the Mysterious Mr O‘s way of getting them to do remixes. „Now all I have to do is get them to deliver“ comments Paris from his secret lab „I do plan to bring them home after the remixes have been released. Working with these artists has been a goal of ours for the past few years, and now that they‘ve been abducted may the FUnk be with all of us“
